You know, I was hungry and there was nothing in the area that looked like it would fit the bill. I have wanted to try this place for years and the reviews were pretty good. I had the king club and a medium soda that was bigger than I expected. The sandwich really didn't do it for me. It had an unusual taste to it and it was only turkey beef and capicola. The bread was a bit doughy for being a cold sandwich. The place was clean, but I would pass next time and keep driving.

God do I love this place.  I grew up by the one in Midlothian and have been addicted to it since.  Every time I go back home, I pick one up for the 3 hour ride home...LOVE this place!  I always get the ham sandwich, served hot.

We need to head over to my folks for a visit. Not only is it their 61st wedding anniversary day but also my Dad's 83rd birthday (a few days early). Well after a nice visit my wife says let's get something to eat. We recently saw that Chicago Best episode about the Hot Spots to eat in the south suburbs. Now even though I'm not too thrilled with the male host, he hams it up way too much. I will say Brittany Payton is really cute! So Maria says let's head over to The Submarine Port in South Holland. They highly recommended the soups and we do LOVE our soup.

So as usual we have a huge order. We start by ordering two bowls each of the Cream of Chicken with Rice soup (this was average tasting soup kind of thick with lots of chicken, rice and carrots) and the Beef vegetable soup (a little bit watery but with good flavor and a good amount of potatoes, pasta, lighter on the veggies and beef). Each set of two bowls runs $4.98 so almost $10 dollars for the soup in total. Then we order a Port sub (Ham, Salami, Capicola, American and Swiss Cheese) (a good zesty italian style sub); Club sub (Roast Beef, Turkey, Capicola, American and Swiss Cheese) (a good sub that Maria liked, nothing special she said but a good sub); Submarine sub (Ham, Salami, Spiced Ham, American and Swiss Cheese) (again another good average sub); Combo sub (Roast Beef, Corned Beef, American and Swiss Cheese) (I thought this was probably the best sub we ordered of the day, it had the right mix of corn beef, roast beef and mustard, and yes everyone in the family allowed me to sample their subs, yes it is GOOD to be Jerry); Seafood and Crab sub (whitefish and crabmeat mixed with celery and mayo) (another good average sub); Tuna sub, (which Maria and I started eating right away on our ride home and we both thought the mayo was nice and light without the tuna being dry, which really made for a good sub); and finally a Turkey sub, (which both my youngest daughter and I thought was another good average sub, we have had better turkey subs but we have also had worse). Our total bill came to roughly $40 dollars. Which I thought was pretty good for seven, count em, seven subs and four total bowls of soup.

The service was friendly. The young girl who waited on us was new so it took a while but she got everything together in the end. Overall I would recommend Submarine Port if you are in the town of South Holland or even in the nearby area. But if not then definitely do not go out of your way for a visit. There are better places in the south suburbs whether for subs or something else.
