Our seafood plus pasta was not very good but the service was fine.  Will not return.

Love coming here during the summer.  Service is okay, but it is usually a lot of young summer help, so don't expect to be treated like it's a super nice steakhouse.  However, the food is worth coming here every time, I've come here several times with family and a group of friends.

Got gay-bashed, sued, won, enough said? The owning manager of this place is a special kind of gross. I was shocked to find out people and places like this still exist in Rehoboth in the 21st century. Most gay-unfriendly place I've experienced in a decade.

There is usually a "Summer House Chopped Salad"  on the specials menu.  It is awesome.  The food is very good here.  We had six in our party.  One of the regulars said we always keep coming back here because it is always good.  The staff is on top of things and do a great job.

LOVE LOVE LOVE their food. Sit at the bar, service is slow at tables. Have a nice Tapas menu usually during dinner. Forget going when it's burger night. All of their salads are awesome! Love Jimmy the bartender!!!!

I have gone here before I was 21 and gotten kicked out (boo to the vigilant bouncers for doing their job) and now go there occasionally when I am in DE.

It's a great place to hang with friends for dinner and stay for drinks.  They have revamped the back room where I recently went for a rehearsal dinner.  It was a far cry from being covered in sweat and ordering 2 long island ice teas at a time...

The music is good, DJ JY ha and they have plenty of tvs above the bar to watch games to your hearts content no matter what the sport.

The food is good, at the rehearsal dinner I had the crabcake and was not disappointed.

Typical sports bar -- noisy, TV screens everywhere. Servers were nice but not overly competent, food nothing special.

Although Summerhouse is a little bit of a walk from the Boardwalk, it's a good staple for Rehoboth.  Food was impressive for a restaurant that turns into a night spot around 11pm.

Drinks were really reasonable priced as well.

This is reasonable alternative. Food is good but nothing great. I had the sliced steak sandwich. It was tender and plentiful. The cream of crab soup was excellent. The menu had a wide variety of land and sea food all of which sounded great. I think you could do a lot worse at the beach. And the bar was excellent.

It was a reasonable wait, considering it was a Saturday night. The charming greeter took my husband's cell number and sent him a text. We adjourned to the bar.

So, the incredibly cute bartender made a good strawberry margarita. He's a nice guy, very funny and easy going. His went down like water.

Now Meredith made the second round. This is the Girl You Watch Out For. Not only is she jaw dropping gorgeous, funny and seriously smart. She makes a mean, mean margarita.  Be very, very nice to Meredith.

Our server was Deanna who was a joy. She knew what was on the menu, and considering the modern complications of food sensitivities - its just not an easy job. She did not miss a beat. Her timing was excellent,

The steak was *huge* and it was luscious.  Dean had shrimp and crawfish étouffée that he adored. It was the equal of what he's enjoyed in New Orleans, with wonderful service.

We'll certainly be back and happily recommend.

Service was terrible. Barstaff was rude and ignorant.   Sat at the bar and there were only 8 other people at the bar. Took 20 minutes to get a drink and had to ask for my water to be refilled 3 times. At one point we saw one bartender drinking behind the bar and was completely oblivious to the fact we were waiting for our bill. On that note it was quite obvious that several of the bartenders were intoxicated. As we exited our one bartender and several servers were outside dancing on the benches.

I have always enjoyed the summer house in the past, but will now take my business elsewhere.

Awful awful awful. Made us wait to be seated despite an empty restaurant. We waited for a server, the waited and waited for drinks. Appetizer was really yucky and finished it before we got our drinks. Entrees (just burgers) were ok. Hubbie waited and waited and asked three different employees for BBQ sauce. Then waited and waited for the bill despite multiple requests. I actually wish my preschooler would've acted up because then they might have hustled a bit.

How many employees does it take to get a condiment? Apparently after asking 2, and waiting 15 minutes, the answer is do it yourself as both employees are now ignoring you.
Greeted by one server, order taken by someone else, host had no idea how to seat people. Had to find one manager to ask for a check after being ignored for another 10 minutes.
Mediocre food - chips were good but not w the blue cheese sauce.
    Walk down to Dogfish.

STAY AWAY, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GAY!

My partner and I were discriminated against at the Summerhouse, because we were gay.  I was so furious about it I sued them through the state's Human Relations Commission and WON, Unanimously!

I'll never go to any of the Big Fish Restaurant Group restaurants, which includes the Summerhouse, Big Fish and now Salt Air.

This restaurant has become a new favorite in downtown Rehoboth Beach. It's hard to beat the Summerhouse Chopped Salad, which I've had several times and never tire of ordering. Our guests yesterday when asked by the server if we needed anything else, said "perhaps a wheelbarrow," because their sandwiches were so large! The business lunch on weekdays is a great value at $13 for a salad/soup and entree. We generally go there for lunch, but plan on having dinner there one day soon, too.

We got there a little late to eat but the bar was packed so I didn't think twice about sitting on the restaurant side. Could barely get any attention from the waitstaff. Very little follow up. The only time we got attention was when some drunk guy came over to us acting like a moron. He proceeded to put his own head through the glass window on the door seperating the bar & restaurant. Then there was staff all over us. Too little too late. Food wasn't bad

The meal was great! The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the sides (Neva Potatos and Mac and Cheese) were tasty. The service was friendly and prompt and each meal was served hot. It was a very enjoyable experience.

We did not set out  to go to the Summer House.  We were looking for a place to eat lunch and this place looked ok.

They were able to seat our party of five right away.  The service was a bit slow, but it wasn't terrible.

I ordered the cuban panini.   There was alot of meat on it and it was good, but I was super confused by the pork on it.  It was doused  in barbeque sauce, which is not typical of a cuban sandwich.  The mustard was very dijon"y", which masked the bbq sauce.

Fiance had the turkey reuben panini.  It was pretty good.

There was nothing about this place or the food that I loved and nothing that I hated.  It was acceptable.

Oh, and we had one fly around our table.

Horrible service.  There were three in our party and we were seated in a booth at the window.  There were flies galore near the windows and we heard a waitress explain to a customer that they weren't seating people near the windows for this reason (so why, with a restaurant FULL of empty tables did our waitress show us to this booth?!).

To add insult to injury, our waitress took our order (all salads) and then disappeared.  I had to track down the owner after 20 minutes to see what happened to our food.  No apology, no free coffee or discounted lunch...

The salads were excellent, but the service was pithy!  Do not stop here if in a hurry...(and best to bring a fly swatter, just in case)~

Surprisingly good - probably a 3 star place - but our $13 lunch special (Steak, mac 'n cheese and a small wedge salad) was awesome for the money.   DH had a cuban sandwich and excellent sweet potato fries.  Oh - and the crab/lobster biqsue had a red pepper base and tasted wonderful.

Perky gal servers and big comfy booths.
    Pineapple infused vodka shots.

We came for a quiet late lunch - but I bet this place gets crackin' at night - and could possibly be a frat-boy central.

The biggest problem?  Lots and lots of FLIES.  (Eew.)
That knocks a star off for sure!

    The service was great.

My mom had the white bean chili and she really enjoyed it.  The small house salad was also very fresh and tasty.  They served it with crumbles of blue cheese, which was nice.  The house dressing was light, sweet and delicious.  Wish that there were more chunky tomatoes.

My crabcake sandwich was full of nice lumps of crabmeat, but I think it was browned a bit too long for my taste.  It tasted a bit overdone on the outside.

In general, I don't prefer shoestring fries, so perhaps my opinion here is biased.  The shoestring sweet potato fries were ok, I just prefer nice chunky fries.  My suggestion is to order the kettle chips, they are homemade and not salty.

Nice place that has been around for years but I have never visited.  I agree with Michael Os comment: it does have a "chain restaurant" vibe to it, but it is a nice looking clean envrionment.  Have eaten there twice now and each meal was just fine.  I was more impressed with the business lunch specials they have during the week sometimes...great deal for a 3 course lunch.  Last time I at there for dinner I sat at a booth by the bar (not a busy night) and had to listen two three local yokels yuck it up with the bartender...loud and profanity laced discussion (not from the bartender)...feel like the bartender should have stepped in and told them to keep it down, but not a huge deal, just pretty annoying.

I would like this place better if it didn't give off a "chain" vibe to me.  That being said, it's still a good spot.

I went for brunch and had the crab cake eggs benedict, and it was good.  I think the skillet potatoes that came with it were excellent though.  Those are so hard to make, mine are always either mush or undercooked.

Fresh squeezed OJ was nice, served over ice.  It's a good spot to stop when you just want a sort of "all-around" type menu.

I didn't eat here but my friend and I stopped for some drinks. I really didn't see why this place was so much busier than neighboring bars and restaurants. I thought the beers were overpriced and the bartenders were not as nice and attentive as other places I drank at that weekend. IF I ever visited it again I'm sure I'd have a stronger opinion one way or another.

The menu looked large enough to have something for everyone.

It is central to everything else in the area. And no offense but I don't want kids at my drinking establishment so if it's kind friendly then that is definitely a con.

Hit or miss in the summer, but a pretty decent locals spot in the offseason.

I've never eaten here in like 10 visits, but beers are fairly reasonable.

Mediocre food. My ribs were good, but the sides weren't great.

Decent bar scene, although they don't have drafts, only bottles!  It's probably a good place to watch a game.

Be sure to get a shot of their pineapple infused vodka. They make it themselves (notice the huge container of pineapple slices stewing in vodka on the bar).

This is a great restaurant if you have kids. Convenient location next to the town library. The informal atmosphere and bright colors in the front dining room are pleasant. Service was excellent and attentive.

Weekday specials provide better value (on a Wed. night, I enjoyed a delicious BBQ combination with a 1/2 rack of ribs, and Carolina pulled pork). The only downside was the "spicy succotash" - I'd recommend the Neva potatoes.  If you arrive before 6pm on a weekday (with kids), it's not very crowded.

What a fantastically delicious dinner!! We started with some drinks at the bar while waiting for a table. The bar tender made a rather delicious and strong drink but did have a bit of an attitude. Once we were seated we started with the artichoke and spinach dip and the calamari. Both were incredible! For dinner I had the crab cake sandwich with mashed potatoes, which was amazing and the perfect size. Everyone else really enjoyed their dishes too. The prices were great as well as the service. The waitress we had was really friendly and hilarious. She told us a pretty great joke when we asked, Great service! I HIGHLY recommend this place for dinner.

Somehow I forgot to review this joint after returning from a vacation in Bethany Beach a few weeks ago, but here it goes. I honestly can't remember what most people in my party ate, but they all enjoyed it. I had a horseradish-crusted salmon dish that was really tasty. The service is friendly and it didn't take too long on a busy night. If you want a casual place to get some pretty good food, give Summerhouse a shot.

We dined here as a party of 8 and the hostess was very helpful in finding a table for us. We all enjoyed our meals, highlights were the crab cakes and filet mignon. The service was casual and spotty at times, but the servers seemed to have good intentions. The prices were reasonable and the restaurant worked well for a large group.

I appreciate what Summerhouse is trying to do, namely decent food at decent prices, but my lunch (Caesar salad and crawfish/shrimp etouffee) was underwhelming.  The service was shockingly slow given the almost-empty restaurant (fewer than 10 customers including us).  We're talking about a wait of close to15 minutes for the etouffee - basically everything had been cooked and just had to be dumped on the plate.

Picking the food apart starting with the Caesar salad:
    - Woefully underdressed.
    - Slightly wilted romaine lettuce.
    -  Watery.  There was a pool of white-coloured liquid at the bottom of the bowl.
    - Stale croutons.  They were probably from a box, but whatever grease/oil/butter-substitute they used to make it tasted a little off.  Not quite rancid, but definitely past its prime.
    - The little sticks of shredded domestic parmesan that tasted like the lowest end stuff... not that there's anything wrong with that.  But there was far too much of it, so much so that all I could taste in the salad was cheap parmesan.

As for the crawfish and shrimp etouffee that seems to advertised everywhere (daily special on the board, business lunch menu, the regular menu, the website's sample Sunday brunch menu...)?
    - The sauce/gravy was so unpleasantly acidic that it masked the taste of everything.  That includes the shrimp, crawfish, and the rice.
    - The advertised jumbo shrimp weren't visible at first glance.  But after some diligent digging about with my spoon, I found 3 or 4 shrimps that would probably have been described as "medium sized" at best.  Thanks to the sauce, I could hardly taste the shrimp.
    - The crawfish?  Mealy.  Horrible texture.  But there sure were a lot of them... which I couldn't taste thanks again to the sauce.
    - This may be nit-picking, but some of the minced parsley used as a garnished had black edges.  Not dark green, but black.

We were in a hurry to get to the beach, so I didn't send it back.  But given the other reviews, I may give them another chance.  Although not with the big mess that they called their etouffee.

A decent place to grab some grub and some drink!  I do feel that the food is a little over-rated around here.  People like to talk like this is the best food ever.  Don't get me wrong, it's good, but not THAT good.

I like it though, its got a mostly laid back feel.  I feel that its a little overpriced, but again, still good.

One thing I will concur on with all the ravers is the neva potatoes!  This place is worth a visit just to get these.  Seriously, if you come here and don't eat them, you're just silly!

During my recent vacay, Summerhouse provided the best food and dining experience of my trip.  Thank you, once again, fellow Yelpers for your awesome reviews.

Got to Summerhouse late into the dinner hour and the place was packed.  We were told our party of 6 would have to wait 15 to 25 minutes for a table and were given a beeper and sent to the benches outside.  We waited for less than 5 minutes and were seated.  Sweet!

The giant booths comfortably seated the 6 of us and our waiter was quick to get our drink orders and crayons for the kids to doodle on the tablecloth.  Brilliant idea, Summerhouse!  The kids were stoked they could color anywhere they wanted.

We ordered an AMAZING app of Crab Dip that was outrageously good.  Devoured every morsel.  The complimentary homemade bread was really good... a little different than the usual.  The slices were generous and took the edge off the kids' hunger while they waited for their meals.  The boys got seafood dishes which they raved over and said was some of the best they've ever had.  Mom and I got a soup and salad.  The salad was really nice-- field greens with carmelized pecans, cranberries and baked goat cheese.  The goat cheese was a little too mild for this particular dish, I wish they had chosen something with some chutzpah....  it was good, but it could have been better.   Mom and I opted to each try their soups of the day.  I had white chicken chili which was good: the chicken was tender and the flavors were nicely balanced.  But since mom and I try each other's dishes, I was uber-uber-uber jealous of her OUTSTANDING Cream of Crab soup.  Orgasm in a bowl.  I'm not a seafood eater, but this soup is what culinary wet dreams are made of.  Rich, creamy, perfection with nice lumps of crab.  This soup should DEFINITELY be on their daily menu, because it would draw crowds.  Not that they need any help filling their tables, but you get what I'm saying.

My only complaint about Summerhouse is with regard to the lighting and noise level.  The place is EXTREMLY dark.  I like dim lighting, but this place was ridiculously dark.  And given that the booths are a step up/down,  and they serve liqour... they're just asking for trouble.  Second, the noise level is outrageous.  They have music playing AND 6 TV's all showing different sports channels all competing... not to mention that the place is crowded and that alone creates quite a din.  I wished they would have just chosen to either play music and mute the TV's or vice-versa.

Regardless, I can heartily recommend Summerhouse... When I go back to Rehoboth, I will definitely return to Summerhouse.  It gets high marks for all the things that really count:
    -great food
    -reasonable prices
-kid friendly (both in service and kid's menu)
    -clean
    -full bar
    -good service

What more could you ask for?  Free body shots off naked bartenders, maybe?

We went here Monday night for half priced burger night around 7:00PM.  There was a wait so we decided to scoop up two seats at the bar.  I was really hungry and wanted to eat quickly in order to catch the last part of Pamala Stanley's show.  The bartender informed us that it was also the special price of 2.50 for miller products.  I ordred a turkey burger with pepper jack cheese with a side of the sweet potato fries and a miller light with lime.  My friend had a hamburger with mozarella and substituted a side of mash potatoes in lieu of the fries.  The food came quickly and the burgers were tasty.  It was very tasty.  For only seven dollars a piece for the burger and the beer, it was  a real bargain too.

Even I get tired of pizza, funnel cakes, ice cream, and other beach foods after a while, although my while is probably much longer than yours. Thankfully, there are several options for finer dining in Rehoboth Beach. Some of the restaurants that our concierge recommended were Fins, Cloud 9, Dogfish, Jake's, and Summerhouse. While we were walking to the beach in the afternoon, Cloud 9 looked way too upscale to bring a 6 month old, Fins also looked rather upscale, but as we walked past Summer House we noticed a car seat on one of the tables, and we decided this would be our spot for dinner. I'm happy to report that it is a great place for a nice dinner with the family.

Food - Is there a shortage on scallops or something? This is the 2nd place in a span of 3 days that my wife and I visited that was out of scallops. So we settled for the calamari ($10) which was described as "flash-fried." The calamari was rubbery and the breading was soggy, which leads me to believe that the menu-writer saw the words "flash-fried" on another menu and decided, "That sounds awesome! I should put that on our menu," without having any idea what it is or how to do it. It was presented with pickled hot peppers, which was ok, and was served with tartar sauce - ask for marinara instead.

For our entrees, we ordered two of the daily fish specials. My wife ordered the yellowfin tuna with a balsamic vinaigrette reduction ($25). Although the tuna was seared to perfection, with a cool, rare center, it wasn't very flavorful as the seasonings were rather weak and the chef may have taken the reduction too far b/c there were about 3 squirts of sauce on there. If it had better flavor, it would've definitely matched up with other fine seafood restaurants. I had the Chilean sea bass ($21) served with sauteed spinach and carrots and an Asian soy sauce. Like the tuna, the bass was cooked to perfection and though basic, the sauce was very good. The whole dish worked very well and I would gladly order it again.

All entrees are served with one side. I had the broccoli and my wife ordered the sweet potato fries. Bizarro world, I know - I order steamed veggies and she orders fries? But after the AMAZING sweet potato fries @ Nellie's, we both were eying them here. The fries were shoe string, i.e., insanely annoying to eat, but were incredibly tasty. The broccoli was slightly over steamed but was great when dipped in my leftover Asian soy sauce.

Location - We went around 9pm and had a 15 minute wait for a table. There are benches right outside or a bar area with plenty of flat screens, so the wait isn't too bad. When you enter the restaurant, you'll see a large bar area which had a decent-sized crowd for a Friday night. The dining area is separate from the bar so I'd definitely recommend this place for families. We had to place our Graco Snugride carseat on the table as the booths were a little too narrow to fit the seat in. We noticed several families with children dining there, as well as some couples - both straight and not-so-straight. So a pretty eclectic crowd.

Service - was friendly but not the most attentive. Thankfully, the dining area isn't too big, so getting her attention was much easier than hailing a cab.

Finally, the night became even more memorable as we saw Michael Phelps out touch Cavic at the wall on our way out of the restaurant. WOW!

All in all, an excellent destination for fish and a great dinner in Rehoboth Beach.

Just let me tell you that the Bloody Mary's are perfection. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food here.
I tried the loaded wedge salad and it was awesome- crisp, fresh, & the tomatoes were actually red. Just Delicious. My mom had the Caesar and she's still raving. For dinner I had the fillet in the Cabernet demi glaze. She had the Crab Cake sand and thought it was decent. ( not utterly amazing-ness but fine) the sweet potato fries are yummy.
My fillet was cooked perfectly and yes, I ate every bite OK?

They seem to get on a wait pretty early so stop by & put your name in then hit the endlessly cool Rehoboth shops, work up your appetite and enjoy-

We went to Summer House for dinner prior to the Starboard closing weekend blow out.  They don't do reservations, or even call ahead seating, so since we had a party of five, we sent in one of the gals while we found a parking space to get us on the list.  There wasn't a table ready when we all got in, so we went for a drink at the bar.

For starters - I actually got a GOOD POUR on the glass of Pino Grigio that I ordered.  And it didn't cost $9.  (HELLO!!!  Liberty Tavern, Restaurant Eve -  put some wine in the glass already!)  By the time we had finished our drinks the table was ready.

I ordered the scallops and risotto appetizer as my entre. It was quite tasty, and the perfect portion for me.  My girlfriend ordered the crab cake sandwich. I didn't get to try any, but it looked very heavy on the crab, and light on the bred and fillers.  She ate it all!  On the side of her sandwich was a huge, heaping pile of sweet potato fries. They were out of this world!  I kept stealing them throughout the meal.

We all enjoyed our dinner.  The prices were reasonable - especially considering that we were at the beach. The service was friendly, the drinks were generous. What's not to like?
