(Part 2 of 2 - read the other part first!)
There's no high-pressure salesmanship. Of course, you're expected to tip when sitting at the "rack," that's a given. But outside that, you're not hassled. Girls will ask if you want a private dance, but they'll only do so under reasonable circumstances. You don't have girls wandering around pestering every customer to buy a drink or get a private dance. I've seen this elsewhere and I don't care for it. Nor does the staff push you to buy drinks or food. Had a couple beers and want to drink ice water for a while before you head out? No problem.
Decent amenities. The lighting is darker than in most places. I like this, personally, but it's not for everyone. There are two stages; most of the time only one is in use. The second opens up when it gets busier, especially during one of the club's weekly "special events." There's an area behind the video gambling machines for private dances. It's not very private but very dark. It's not easy to see what's going on back there. There may be a VIP area, too, but I've never seen it nor anyone looking for it. There is a smoking area out back, supposedly with a pool table, but I haven't been out there to see it. Bathrooms are small but reasonably clean.
Jim is the regular DJ and he adds just enough cheesy color commentary to keep it fun. He also likes to tease the dancers a bit when they're up on stage (or late to the stage). The banter is good, not cliquish like at other places. Everyone's laughing. The music is usually chosen by the dancers, so if you don't like what's playing, don't blame the DJ.
The staff & dancers all seem to get along. I've heard some horror stories, but at least whatever's going on behind the scenes doesn't seem to make it to the floor.
The stages are fairly short, and flat (no lip rail on the rack), so the dancing is definitely up close and personal. Because there's no lip rail, some dancers will crawl across the rack (easily done) and into your lap during their performances. Hello, there, fella! A lot of clubs don't allow this, so if you're not into the idea, beware. This is a fully-nude, contact-friendly club. There are dancers who don't undress completely during stage performances, but private dances are another matter entirely. I won't delve any further into that. It's quite good.
There is sometimes a doorman or "bouncer," but I've only paid a cover charge twice that I can remember. Bouncers aren't really needed here, as nothing really happens. Surprised? I was, too.
I've said a lot of positive things, so what's the bad news? There isn't much, but here goes:
Like in any club, there are those dancers who probably should either get out of the business or work on their customer service skills. It doesn't happen often, but you will run into that occasional dancer who isn't so nice and maybe has a chip on her shoulder. Sister, if you don't like what you do, or the people you do it for, maybe it's time to hang up the boxing gloves, eh? Those who come to be entertained do not deserve your hostility.
There is one significant problem to report, where some good management coaching is definitely in order. It occurs frequently. Sometimes when engaged with a customer, certain dancers will drop said customer like a hot rock when they perceive a more promising "mark" has shown up. It has happened to me only twice that I can remember (it's not something you forget), but I see it happening to other poor saps all the time. Ostensibly said dancers are thinking in financial terms and/or don't want to risk disappointing regular "sure things." Now, you don't mess with a girl's money train, I know that. I preach it, in fact. And a girl can't be in two places at once. But there is a finesse to handling this situation. Some girls just simply have no such finesse. This needs to be addressed for the sake of the club, and pronto.
Lastly, I like good pole dancing. Gymnastics really entertain me, clothes or no clothes. Unfortunately this is an area where Sunset Strip falls pretty flat (was that a pun?) compared to the average club. Only a few dancers here know anything of substance about the pole. The rest just sort of spin around it or ignore it completely. I don't begrudge them, but I think if I were a dancer I'd want to learn everything I could about it. Therefore those at Sunset who have this skill shine by default. Three of them in particular are quite talented. I won't say who. The rest, though...not so much.
Overall, Sunset Strip provides a casual, comfortable, friendly environment where the staff, dancers, and patrons seem satisfied. It has that "big, happy family" kind of vibe. I'm becoming something of a regular, myself. It feels better than any other local club I've been to. And I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere.
I used to live right down the street from this club and I also go to Coachs across the street so this was always a goot place to break up the same old boring night at the local bar. Not a high class joint but still clean enough to go into without feeling dirty. They do need to update and clean their facility but I have no problem coming and visiting this club every couple of months.
Review Source:Place is a joke! If its raining, the celings leak on the the dancers stages and in the kitchen. I saw a piece of the soaking wet celing fall to the ground next to the stage when I was there. Its crazy dark, so you can barley see who you're talking to. The managers a creep that sits in the corner and watches the dancers all night and the food tastes like rubber.
Other then that crap, the girls were really cool and fun to talk too. The pool table outside is awesome (if you can handle the cold) and I'd never mess with their huge bouncers... I'm talking big scary dudes
Worst experience in a strip club ever. Door guy had a chip on his shoulder before we even walked in. Had a bigger chip when we left. Took way to long to get survive, Way to dark couldn't see my hand unless it was glowing from the black lights. Â the only good part was they had a DJ from TCOR and a dancer on roller skates. If I could Give them no stars I would have. Ive been around this industry for some time and will never go back. Would never recommend any of my friends to go back either. Bartender didn't even know how to make some simple drinks. Thumbs down, thumbs WAY down.
Review Source:Went to this place for a friends birthday. Â Â He always raves about this place and how good it is. Â Â On this night they had about 6-7 dancers I think. Â Â Nothing too special about this place, same old skinny dancers with ribs. Â $4 cover.
I really don't know what Portland's obsession is with skinny women but they just aren't that attractive in my opinion. Â Maybe it's because I'm from the south and like my women to actually have a juicy ass. Â Sorry girls, if I can see your ribs then you are way too skinny. Â A few friends of mine at work were saying if we had the money, we would open a strip club and not allow any dancers below size 6. Â Â I think it would do quite well, but I digress....
I did end up getting a lapdance from one of the "thicker" (size 10 maybe) girls there. Â Â At least it was an actually lapdance with her ass grinding on my lap instead of an "airdance" like at most places, so for that I'll give it three stars. Â Other than that, this is just your typical portland strip club.
One star. Â One lousy star. Â And they wont get any more than that from me. Â Here is why:
The main reason is that the DJ would rotate the dancers after no more than half a song. Â The ladies didn't dance more than two minutes at a time. Â It was just stupid how every song got cut off. Â It would take longer for the next stripper to get on stage and begin than her entire dance would take. Â Just stupid.
Other than that, the place was clean. Â It was VERY dark. Â They had lottery machines which was fun to play when the fat stripper would come on stage.
Maybe it was just a bad day for them - I came in, was not greeted, sat down, and no waitress came over. Â The unenthusiastic dancer got bothered that I was watching from a distance and not sitting at the rail, and flipped me off. Â So after 30 minutes I left. Â I doubt I'll go back until they go broke and replace the management.
Review Source:So this wasn't a planned trip. Orginally it was our intern's going away get together, but poor kid had to go home and pack since his flight was in the morning. So we had his going away party without him anyways. And i have no idea how but we ended up here. Boy am i glad we did.
On a monday night if anything mind you there were plenty of girls and they were good looking. Drink... you know once you drink so much you forget to keep track of how much drinks cost. all i know is i had a great time and so did the other guys.
Because i am unable to get all the important information, i'm going to make a sacrafice and go back again with a pen and paper this time to take important notes. The things i do for other yelpers!
