Went last night (Friday night), and while the food was good, the service was terrible.  We have dined there before, and the service was fine.  We arrived five minutes early for our appointed reservation time, and were met with quizzical looks.  I'm not sure they were aware of the reservation.  We were finally seated at our BBQ table, which did have a "reserved" sign.  We ordered sushi/rolls for appetizers, which were very good.  Two of them were brought out together, but the third person at our table had to wait at least 5 more minutes for hers.  BBQ was good; one of our dishes was marinated beef ribs, and the sides were good.  After our server finished with the BBQ, he basically disappeared and never came back to see if we needed anything.  We were finished with our meal for about a half hour, and finally had to ask someone clearing tables to let our server know we would like our check.  Highly disappointed this time.  Oh, and for some odd reason, they had the same song (a woman singing) playing over and over and over and over the entire time we were there.  We had time to discuss that as we were waiting for someone to come and bring the check.

I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant, but I have to say that this is the best Korean restaurant that I've had in the area! Even though the inside of the restaurant looks extremely trendy like an Asian fusion place, the prices are unpretentious and the food is really good! First off, the kalbi is of an extremely high quality - the meat is delicate and flavorful and I just ate the pieces right off the grill! Even though sauces and lettuce (for wrapping) are provided, the meat tastes too good on its own for me to want to mask its flavor! I'm still dreaming of this kalbi, especially now that I'm no longer on the East Coast! The bibimbap with spicy pork was VERY spicy, which is great, but it was already pre-mixed with sauce and a LOT of it - I think a little more restraint would have made this dish perfect; after all, the highlight of bibimbap for me personally are the vegetables! A rock shrimp tempura appetizer was amazing! Sweet and crunchy, these huge pieces of shrimp are addictive! Banchan were good, soondubu was good, the seafood pancake (given to us by the owner) was good, and the sushi tasted fresh! I was extremely impressed by this restaurant and I know now that whenever I come to visit my family in Pennsylvania, this will be my go-to restaurant request when we dine out!

My husband had been wanting to try Korean BBQ for quite some time and after doing some research I came across Surah.  I decided that this would be the perfect place to take him for his birthday and we have to say that we both enjoyed it! Although it was only the two of us, we decided to try a little bit of everything. We ordered the wings, which were delicious, sushi and the Korean BBQ which consisted of short ribs, pork belly and tons of veggies. The owner was extremely now and even offer us a complimentary glass of Korean wine.  We will definitely be back soon!

Friday evening dinner, ended up here as we were in the mood for something different.  Sat at a BBQ table but didnt take that route.  Points earned for warming our bottle of Sake

Started off with some Seaweed Salad and Tuna Sushi for apps.  Both were passable, we've had better and worse.  Main dishes were Bibimpap Bugogi for myself.  Bibimpap Seafood for the better half while surly teen had a couple of rolls.  They also threw out a plate with sides which included kimchi (on the mild side but good taste), eggplant, sweet pumpkin and something else that was gone before I got to try it.  My bowl was pretty good.  Seafood bowl got a thumbs up and the Sushi rolls vanished fast.  Taste and portions all passed with flying colors.

Unfortunately Surah has the some of the same hiccups that dog most Asian places.  Drinks come out warm, and they're stingy on the ice.  Server failed to check in halfway thru or offer refills.  Music was a Maroon5 CD on replay (no kidding).  Tweak the shortcomings and this place can rise to the very good/excellent level.

Note on the BYO angle - Theres a liquor license placard in the window so they're addressing that.

A+ for Surah in Spring House.  Fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi and, anything that you want, Benny will create for you. The Korean meals seem to be moving nicely. However, my husband and I always choose the sushi bar and the attentive service. A hidden gem, next to the Giant in the shopping center.  You will not lose if you visit this restaurant with the beautiful decor and, more importantly, the delicious Japanese dishes.  We need to spread the word about this Japanese experience. We are there almost every week.

Maybe my expectations were too large, but I was not impressed with the food at Surah. The owner is someone that has had Korean restaurants in North Philly and the suburbs, and I had enjoyed his food. Sadly, this one was not up to par.

The restaurant's interior is classy, with a dining room, sushi bar, and individual rooms for groups. This is something I'm not used to- I'm accustomed to the run-down, bare-bone establishments in North Philly.

We tried the Galbi (marinated short rib), Dwen Jang Jji Gae (fermented bean paste soup), and the Chilk Mool Naeng Myun (cold buckwheat noodles in broth). The Galbi was ok, nothing special; there are electric heat BBQ grills at the table. The meat was of good quality, though. The Dwen Jang Jji Gae is where the most points were lost: the broth lacked depth and there was only tofu and squash in the soup, unlike it competitors that put a shellfish or two (maybe even beef) in it. The best dish was the cold noodles- the noodles were stringy and light, and the pickled radishes complemented the great broth.

The menu is extensive. They have your standard Korean dishes and a few Japanese dishes. I saw Tonkatsu and Okonomiyaki as well as many creative rolls. They also have a "Ceviche" section, with many varieties of carpaccios. Daily specials, including Korean Fried Chicken, is also available.

Overall, a restaurant with lots of potential. It's a little geared towards Americanized taste, which is fine, but a few dishes can use some tweaking. This place would be good for those not familiar with Korean cuisine. I'll definitely be back to try the other dishes! Oh, and it's BYOB!

This restaurant is incredible! The food is fresh, tasty and authentic as it gets. The service is next level. Pleasant, attentive, and very detailed on food descriptions and preparation details. I have been here 3 times and it has been consistent on all factors. This an A+ establishment.

Returned for a Christmas eve dinner. They need to figure out how to keep their hot tea, hot. It's always luke warm or cold from the pot. I had the Dubu Kimchee. Very good but it is big enough for two to eat or, maybe if you don't eat any of the appetizers... F

Can someone update the fact that Surah is primarily a Korean restaurant that has Japanese offerings? Try the jjigae options (Korean soups) on a cold day. Warming, delicious and almost healing!  even with take-out they give you banchan which was a nice addition, I thought. looking forward to eating in and trying some BBQ.

I came with my fiancé, she liked Korean BBQ but I like sushi and we decided to try Surah. Because They have both Korean and Japanese dishes.
The great thing was they have special buy 2 get 1 free galbi(marinated beef rib), well we order it and it was amazing. Really filling, also the korean side dishes was really great. From kimchi to sweet pumpkin purée.
I ordered 4 pieces sushi and 2 roll, They both really good but the unforgettable roll was the best one. This place has awesome decor and I really enjoyed it.
The server was attentive, overall pretty good service.
Keep it up Surah! We definitely coming back.

My first visit was overall pretty good. The entree and side dishes were clean, fresh and tasty. Moreover, the warm kindness of the people working there makes it a more pleasant and positive experience. Would definitely be going back.

We had the Korean bar-b-q. Although we only ordered 2 entrees, because of all the special, we wound up with 4. Everything was wonderful. I would've liked more chicken & seafood choices, though. But we'll def. be going back.

We will def. be going back. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, as was the manager. She asked our names and referred to us frequently. My hubby cannot eat raw,so he usually orders dragon rolls. He said this was one of the best he has ever had. Complimentary edemame started our meal.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, only because I wish there were more cooked rolls. But I certainly found enough to fill my tummy.

I rarely risk dining in the suburbs as it always seems we pay a premium for a mediocre experience.  Surah was neither mediocre or priced at a premium.  The service was extremely attentive without being overwhelming, the menu had a good amount of choices without feeling like you were at an establishment that specialized in nothing and the food, oh, the food!  Everything we ordered was spot on.  Support this local gem so it doesn't go away!

    UPDATE...

Have been here a half dozen times since the initial review and still have nothing but good to say about Surah.  They've added grills (for Korean BBQ) into some of their tables which adds some options to your dining experience and actually makes dining there with a family both fun and a bit more affordable (as you can share).

We went to dinner at Surah and found it to be OK. I had sushi, and it was good, but not great. They also brought one of my rolls out way before the other one. I didn't love that. My fiance and friend had a spicy rice bowl and the teriyaki chicken. They liked it, but didn't rave. The atmosphere was cool, but the air conditioning was on so high that I was freezing the entire meal. It is a BYOB, but we didn't know that, so if we do go back we will be sure to bring something to drink. Also, I wasn't impressed that they didn't ask us if we wanted any coffee/tea or dessert after the meal. Definitely check it out, as I am thinking I may just be being too picky. There is another sushi restaurant in the area that I prefer, but I would consider going back to Surah for a second go-around.

I am thrilled to have a nice new Japanese restaurant so close to home!  What makes this place special is they appreciate your business and go out of their way to make you feel special!  They want to get to know their customers!  It has only been open for a week or so and it had a nice crowd on a Saturday night.  The restaurant is cozy, trendy and nicely decorated with linen table cloths.  It even has small private rooms for a small party and also a sushi bar.  You forget you are in a small strip mall.  The 4 of us all tried different dishes. I started with the miso soup ($5)...I always judge a good Japanese restaurant by the miso soup and this was delicious! The right temperature too!  My main dish was the Sushi/sashimi combo ($25.) and the fish was succulent, fresh and melted in my mouth like good sushi should be.  It was quality!  There were 4 of us and we tried each others dishes.  The calamari salad ($13) was fresh as could be with a light batter on the calamari.  The best appetizer was the Rock Shrimp Tempura ($12) sweet and spicy and wow...delish! The salmon Teriyaki was excellent! ($18)...it came with fresh veggies an they were done perfectly! The filet Mignon steak ($28) was cooked exactly the way it was asked for!  Nice flavor and generous portion.  The chicken teriyaki looked like a generous portion ($16)...even had left overs to take home on that dish.  Service was over the top great!  This tends to be a bit pricey and miso soup or salad is not included in the traditional combo meals, but it is more upscale than most Japanese restaurants and the quality shows! I almost forgot to mention, the chopsticks are not the wooden ones that splinter...they are translucent and quite cool!  In fact all of the dishes are trendy and make a nice presentation! Don't forget to BYOB!  They will even supply a nice wine bucket for keeping it cold.  We were informed the menu will have even more to choose from in July or August.  I look forward to trying the Pad Thai as that will be on their new menu!  Anyway... Does it get any better?  Good service...good food and a bottle of red!!!
