The food is consistently above average, but not outstanding....but that is not why I am writing a review.   It's the service.

On our last visit the hostess was rude when we were seated and the waitress was even worse.  For example, I was reading the menu when she wanted to put down the water....she ACTUALLY pushed my menu aside as I was reading it to place the water down.  The rest of the meal she was also curt, except for the great big smile when she delivered the check.....

The sushi is a 5 star but the service is a 1 star. I've only had take out but if they didn't  have their King Roll I would never come here. Hospitality shouldn't be a thing of the past.

We usually get takeout and the sushi is always fresh and fairly priced. I am not a big fan of dining in at this restaurant. The room is very dark and if you sit in the front three waitresses continually stare at you while you eat. What up? Do you think I am George Clooney?

Parking is not optimal. There are city lots, which will all be pay lots within a month. You could always just copy the Land Rover drivers and park wherever you want on the streets and put your hazards on.

Also, BYOB so bring it if you dine in. There is a good state store next door.

We went to Taka last weekend. Net-net, we thought it was good, not great. We had some fairly basic rolls since we'd never been before and didn't want to go off the ranch with anything, and they were all decent. The prices were good, the service was fine. The whole place had kind of a weird vibe to it, though - I didn't feel like I was in a (supposedly) great restaurant, more like I was in a takeout joint. My husband compared it to a Kevin Smith movie, it was just an odd vibe.

Will we go back? Sure, if we're in town on a Saturday and want to grab lunch, we'll go. But I won't go out of my way to get a sitter on a Saturday ight in order to go there. I really don't think it deserves to be on any Best Places to Eat list like the NJ Monthly list it made. It's just  not that good.

i hate to write a bad review for this place but I just feel their sushi is inferior and over priced. The lunch specials are priced reasonably but for dinner there are way too many other options in the area to eat here.

I think it is a nice place, has a nice ambiance and the food is out pretty quickly. But the quality of the sushi and food is not the best in my opinion. I am actually surprised to see so many positive reviews for the food for this place. I have been here many times and the sushi tasted sub par every single time.

Look into other options if you are in the mood for sushi.

GREAT lunch deals. Lots of yummy roll options for vegetarians (sweet potato is my personal favorite pick with peanut avocado in a close second). The only downside to the location is finding parking nearby as there is no lot.

We went there one time only service was good at the beginning but then our waitress was gone for a long time; I had to bring our bill to the receptionist to pay.  Over all it was good, food was fresh we had Tuna Tata and some rolls.  We will go back again.

This is my favorite for sushi - when it comes to taste. They have the best specialty rolls like the dark angel roll. Choose any one of them - they're all delicious. I never get anything else from here. Five stars for the sushi!

But, the service is just really terrible. It always makes me feel uncomfortable but I suck it up because my family enjoys eating at the restaurant as opposed to take out. I know it sounds harsh but one star for the service.

So, we are here at three stars. I suggest take out.

Second visit and it only gets better.

    Apps:
beef negamaki - the "in-between" scallions were super fresh and was not over cooked nor dry.
Aged Fried Tofu - first thought?  deep fried and overly battered.. boy, was I wrong!  Lightly coated in panko, this delish squares are so delicate, it melts in your mouth!
Fried Gyozas .. ehh... just your average frozen dumplings

    Entree:
We ordered several rolls and couple pieces of sashimi ( family style )
The eel pieces were a generous portion and the salmon was so buttery.

I can do away with the spicy cali rolls and spicy tuna rolls.

Great place, as far as Jersey goes...

I've eaten at Taka many times, I love their food. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places in the area and in NYC, and Taka is one of the best. I consider it be a cheaper/closer Nobu (yes I believe it is that good). Several of their dishes that I really like are the rock shrimp, yellowtail jalapeno, chicken yaki udon. Their sushi is very good too, but these are a couple dishes that most other places don't do, or don't do well.

    Three and a half stars

The ambience at Taka Sushi is great - the place is beautifully decorated and the narrow dining room feels comfortable and cozy. The food tastes delicious (I had the chicken teriyaki) and the service is good. I only wish the prices were a little more reasonable. I paid about $17 for my entree and while the portion was generous, it still seemed a little pricey.

I came in on a Saturday evening & slowly watched this place go from full to desolate, back to full...
The salad had far too much dressing...slightly to be expected but this was more than your average Japanese restaurant.
I ordered spicy crab roll & spicy salmon which were both very good! Surprisingly you didn't see the spicy sauce on the salmon, only on the crab. The waiters were good but not overly attentive. They let my water glass get empty & I wanted something to drink with all the spice!
I'd say the prices were fair, not too cheap, not expensive.
This is your Average sushi bar. You won't be disappointed, but nothing to run home about.

After eyeing the beef teriyaki at this quiet restaurant tucked away in the suburban landscape of north jersey, I pieced my way through a bento Box complete with beef teriyaki and shrimp Shumai, California Roll, Salad and Miso Soup. For only $18, I was pleased by the relatively fair pricing that wouldn't stand up to other bento box deals around, but would put up a fair fight with its range of flavors. The shumai was pleasant but the tender resolve of the teriyaki took the prize of best portion in my opinion. I was moderately satiated, until...

Fried Green Tea Ice Cream! That was off the hook. The green tea ice cream was ridonculous; it was so sweet and complimented the fatness of the batter.

Atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The dark brown wooden floors were clean and reflected the light of the bulbs softened while traveling through the white linen liner. The walls were obsequiously unimposing. The service was on the dot.

My one piece of constructive feedback is that moist towelette smelled like orange scented bathroom cleaner; the bathroom however smelled subtle. I hope they invest in unscented sanitizer for their hand clothes.

The staff are very friendly and the salmon teriyaki lunch box is really good. The only thing i found disappointing was the sushi rolls.

Nice place if you are looking for a sushi/japanese restaurant.

Ordered the chicken teriyaki for an entree which was good. Tender piece of chicken breast sliced with a flavorful teriyaki sauce accompanied by some veggies. We also ordered Aged tofu, yakitori and an avocado roll which were all very good.  Only problem I had was the green tea tasted like just hot water.

The staff is friendly and polite.  Also this is a BYOB restaurant.

Probably my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. The entire menu is amazing. I am always trying to try out some new options.

Service is nice and sometimes naggy but I'd rather have that than be left alone. I love sitting along the right side wall because it's just so quiet and almost romantic, even on a platonic dinner-date!

The food is great, the dessert is adorable, and yes the gum at the end is a true treat.

I order take-out a lot from here. One time I didn't have cash nor a check-book so the delivery man called and they charged my card, fewf! its good to be a regular there.

Just be sure to ask them for chopsticks and extra soy sauce. There have been a few times that they have forgot but its not THAT big of a deal.

There is a liquor store next door so grab some wine or beer before heading over.

Note: weekends are packed, so be sure to make a reservation. If you're just two then try sitting at the sushi bar, its always a fun experience.

    Happy Noming!

Excellent sushi, best in Summit (way better than Monster). Nice, friendly staff, they don't rush you, and they give you fun little boxes of Japanese gum at the end of the meal.

I like this Sushi restaurant, the service is good, and the meet is sooo fresh.
The location is very convenient, it's close to the Summit Station, and it's quite at night.
But it's a little expensive though.
The gum is very cute and tasty.

I would give this place 5 stars if not for the awkward, pushy, up your butt service.  I have been here 3 times and each time the staff  literally asks for your order the minute you sit down,.  When you ask for a few minutes to look over the menu, a different server comes to ask for your order.  They also check on you during your meal too often in an annoying way.

Food: The sushi is by far 5 star worthy. Fresh and tasty.  We usually get the Spicy Tuna and specialty rolls with the tuna in it.  Outstanding!

Also a BYOB.  Best place for sushi in Summit and not as overpriced as Monster Sushi.

Food was good, service friendly...I got very very sick the next day, don't know for  sure if it was food poisoning or just a really bad stomach bug but I haven't been that sick in a long time and happened to be right after eating there.

Best sushi you'll find in Summit! Expensive but soooo worth it! I'm in love with Taka. They're fast and fresh. My husband and I order from here like every week and get it delivered. The tuna is TDF as well as anything with eel. You are going to go bonkers for Taka!

Went with a friend to Taka for a switch-up of the normal sushi spots I go to. I wasn't sure exactly what I was getting into, but the prices online looked pretty good and decided to give it a shot. I was pleased with the decision.

Walked in and immediately observed that I shouldn't walk into the glass, which has a large sticker on it saying "NOT A GLASS DOOR!" Gotchya.

My friend and I decided to sit at the bar since it wasn't too crowded (6pm on a Tuesday night) and our server came over immediately. Ordered the Dragon Roll ($11) and a regular Tuna Roll ($4) and both were very tasty. The staff was very helpful and actually gave us some suggested rolls, just in case we didn't want to look at the menu. After demolishing my delicious two rolls for $15,  we hopped out to some 'goodbyes' from the staff.

I am coming back here...fo sho.

Taka Sushi is a TERRIFIC place to dine with anybody for a solid meal in a great area. The location is awesome (Summit center, very nice), and it's only about a 10 minute drive from where I am in Union. Came here earlier this evening with a buddy of mine for some sushi...

The setting is beautiful -- dimly lit, spacious, bar seats, and booths/tables are great. It's extremely clean and just has the vibe of an overall well-kept place to dine. The staff, as many have said, is very friendly and cordial. The sushi itself was delicious -- fresh and very tasty. I got 3 rolls -- Yellowtail, and 2 Spicy Tuna rolls. They were all great -- I tapped it off with some red bean ice cream, which hit the SPOT PERFECTLY.

The entire meal was about $20, which was PERFECT. Rolls weren't too pricey (about $1 more than I'm used to -- no big deal), and the ice cream was $3.00. Overall, a terrific experience, and I'd DEFINITELY stop in here again.

Taka is our go-to sushi place, though it's starting to get a tad over-popular (I guess a good NYT review will do that). The sushi is always fresh, and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. The cooked and more traditional dishes are standard but good--yaki udon and hibachi are usual orders--but the gyozo and rock shrimp starters will keep you coming back. If you can, go during the week--weekends are filled with Summit's beautiful people and gum-chewing teens on dates.

Terrific sushi rolls, gracious service, comfortable surroundings make for a very enjoyable night out in Summit.  The Pink Lady roll is outstanding, but I always laugh when I order it due to the silly name.  The Angel and Phoenix rolls are excellent, as well, as are the uni and the spicy scallop hand roll.  The simpler rolls are also delicious, in particular the eel and salmon skin rolls.

Instead of orange segments with the bill, they give diners delicious chewy Japanese fruit gum. Very refreshing and a nice change of pace.

My review is for the lunch special during the week. I ordered the 2 sushi roll special (spicy tuna and yellowtail avocado rolll) which came with salad and miso soup which was nice since other restaurants only give you one or the other.  My meal was good (sushi was fresh), but I've definitely had better sushi meals. I did like how I came with only one other person and they let us sit in a both which seats at least 6.

There is a banner outside the restaurant that notes they are the #1 sushi place in northern NJ.  Maybe they are, but I didn't notice anything that stood out.  Based on other reviews, perhaps coming for dinner and doing BYOB, or ordering a special role makes this place great?  For me, nothing really stood out.  If I'm the area again, maybe I'll give them another try...

Taka Sushi is an excellent restaurant! The dishes are exquisite and the atmosphere is mellow. I ordered the 12 piece Sachimi and my cousin had Sushi. With our entrees came a bowl of Miso soup. Everything was perfectly fresh. My Sachimi was sssooo delish that I dream of returning to the Taka Sushi Restaurant again when I'm in Jersey. At this time it is BYOB so we brought a small 6 pack of Corona. Our waitress offered to cut the lime and she left the bottle opener with us at the table. She brought us chilled beer glasses also....nice touch, huh? I took some photos of our food, so check em out for proof of an genuinely great restaurant.

In town in Springfield for business, I had my usual sushi craving in a new area I haven't been to.  After checking some reviews and their menu (see Spicy Garlic Tuna), I decided to stop in.  Got there just after 6:30pm on a Monday evening and it wasn't very crowded, but by the time I left at 7:30pm they were pretty full.  3 chefs behind the sushi bar were working non stop.  They had mounds of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail like I've rarely seen, and the turnover seemed quick.  I started with the Tuna Tataki, which was nicely seared and in ponzu and tasty.  The Tako Su had a slightly sweet flavor to the vinegar, but still good.  The Spicy Garlic Tuna was quite spicy, almost to the point of not knowing I was eating raw tuna.  It was warm due to the sauce, and would have been well complemented by a beer, but I wasn't aware the place was BYOB.  The Yellowtail Jalapeno was very good.  The spicy tuna roll (yea, don't hate, some of us non-japanese like it) seemed just a little off.. Not sure if it was the rice, which seemed a little 'mushy', but still ok.  Service was quick and friendly.  I was the only one at the sushi bar, and the chef asked me a few times how things were.  Overall, not a bad meal.  All that with a miso to finish, and my bill was just over 44$.

Remember, BYOB if you want anything alcoholic here!

I liked this place. The interior design is gorgeous and spacious. The staff is very friendly. I was very curious about a small wooden contraption that sat next to the soy sauces on our table and debating about it for 5 minutes too long with my bf. Our waitress comes, gives us warm towels to freshen up with; she took the wooden contraption and opened it for us to place our used towels on to take away. I'm so easily amused.

I ordered the chicken katsu bento which was okay. I wished I ordered the Chirashi. Maybe next time. My boyfriend had a bunch of sushi which I don't recall the individual names of, but they were tasty.  The place is moderately expensive but nice to bring a date or even hang out (as per the annoying group of school girls next to us). I would come back here for dinner. The lunch setting was too quiet and empty.

Very cute place.  Sushi is really good, so is the salad with ginger sauce!  Waiters range from competent to awkward:)

Favorite thing: The glass wall that has a note on it that says "Watch out I'm Glass Wall."

YUMM-MMY! My wife and I had dinner at TAKA Sushi last night, and it was excellent. We shared the "Taka combo for 2", (or something like that). I'm far from a sushi-pro. I've only started to eat it recently. However, I DO know seafood...and this was very very fresh, and deliciousness the two normally go hand in hand.

The price seemed very reasonable as well. $40 for dinner for 2 is very fair, especially when it's BYOB! The combo came with miso soup and was delicious as well.

The service was great as well. Very attentive, not overbearing, and very friendly. Even as the dinner crowd grew, our server's) were available at any moment.

    I highly recommend Taka Sushi.

    Update!
We've been back to Taka a few times since my 1st review.  Every time we know exactly what to expect and are never dissapointed.  Still not sushi aficianados, but starting to learn.  The Shrimp Tempura roll is amazing, and I'm starting to have dreams about it I think.  It's a must have!  We keep going back and always leave pleased.

Despite what everyone else says, I think the prices are somewhat decent. Even more so since it's BYOB. My gf and I went last night. Service was really good and the sushi was ok. I have yet to experience a WOW sushi experience. I am by no means a sushi expert but I would definitely go back to this place. Cool ambiance, quick service and reasonable prices. The only gripe I had is the service was too over the top. Barely finished our meals and they were about to take our plates off. They were like hawks. Friendly but give us some space.

My favorite sushi place in the area.  The sushi is always super fresh and yummy! We have used the frequent diner cards, b/c my fiance and I usually spend $50 every time we eat here! Try the New Year Roll, it's my favorite.

Sushi seems over-priced and the place is cramped for seating. I've definitely eaten at better places, but it's a good place to go to if no one else is open. Oh and the wait service was just that...sit and WAIT for your food. The wait staff was not professional. Overall service was A-W-F-U-L-!

One of my favorite sushi places, fresh and consistent, this one was highly recommended by my former boss who goes there almost every week with his wife who is from Japan.  They also have one of those frequent diner cards too, where you get a $50 gift certificate when you have 10 ($50 or more) visits.  Pricey but worth it!

Taka is your typical neighborhood sushi stop - reliable food and friendly service.  My girlfriend and I usually stop in or takeout a few times a month basis, as the fish is always fresh and tempura tasty.

I wouldn't advise the teriyaki, I had it only once but was underwhelmed.  Generally, the appetizers are pretty good, in line with what you would expect for the price.
