The place is ghetto. Never enter a bar with a Hennessy display and a cover. It's guaranteed bad news. I hope this place closes and something nicer opens up.

Well worth the visit. Try the purple passion-it will get you real nice, kinda like a long island that tastes like grape kool aid.  the bands that perform here are DC to the core - total recall, vybe, after hours band used to perform here - that's when i fell in love with the place.  most nights there's just enough crowd to be sociable but not so much that you can't move around and have a good time. Call Shawn on theire website if you want to set up something special.  Parking can be a b*tch so car pool with that D.D. You'll probably want one anyway.

GOOD food + booze + tunes = a good time had by all

On weekends, Takoma Station is a nice little (read: pretty damn small) spot to meet up with friends and hear some great local bands.  The weekdays are more of the same -- but with poetry readings/slams and jazz bands. It's more chill, perfect for the "30 & up" crowd.

Parking can be a bear, but the Charlie Parker Basket (wings, fries), liquored up drinks and tunes make it all worthwhile.

This is a cool place that kind of likes people my age, 40 or so during the week, and maybe a younger croud during the weekend. They might not have a sea food option any more but they have a berger that is darn good, and a cute bar tender who I like very much on Wednesday evenings. She's really cool and able, not just cute. Oh yeah, I'm drifting off topic. Anyway, they seem to alternate kinds of coffee, but both are good and fresh at least and hey, some places don't even have coffee if you can believe that;) They have a jazz jam every Wednesday evening now from 7:00 until 10:0 0 PM. This is usually quite good and always has at least one stand out moment, and always pretty darn good on some level. The jazz jam on Wednesday is a nice alternative to the go go and R and B type of thing that tends to be happpening on the weekends.

I really liked this place but I had one issue....the crowd age group is around 50 an over.  If it were more of a mixture it would have been fine.  I went to meet some friends for drinks.  The drinks were good and the band was better than I expected.  Its a nice place to chill and the decor is interesting.  Perhaps I should have stayed longer to see how the crowd developed.  I would recommend it to others if you live nearby.

Hard to believe this place has been around 25 years and I'm just now getting around to visiting it!  The first thing that struck me was the long, dark wood bar; very atmospheric.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find that they had draft beer; 13 lines to be exact!  Having said that, the selection was only middling, with Stella, Redhook IPA and Shiner Hefeweizen being the most intersting choices, and the pints don't come cheap:  $5 at happy hour.  Oposite the bar is a performance area.  In addition to the Wednesday through Sunday Jazz/R&B performances, they also have Monday night comedy acts.  The food choices are limited to bar staples such as sandwhiches and wings.  Food serivce itself doesn't actually start till around 7pm, with a cover begining at 8 and the music around 11.

I was visiting last night and stopped by with a friend from out of town last night (Wednesday). I live nearby and we didn't want to go far. We didn't go in because the bouncer charged us a $20 cover charge on a Wed night. When he could see my lady friend was balking, he said she could pay $10. I think he was hoping I would be embarrassed about not paying the cover--little did he know she'd never let me pay. We just wanted a place to have a drink and chat a bit. I would never pay that much for a cover charge--all we wanted was to get out a bit, sit and chat, listen to some local music. With unemployed musicians all over town, I don't think this spot is doing them any favours, really. We were told that was a special rate because it was after 10pm. Either an unscrupulous bouncer (if so, DROP HIM FAST), or unrealistic understanding of demand.

This is the kind of place you can come to make happy hour feel sad. If jazz and blues are built on inner turmoil and angst, Takoma Station feels like it is the soul of that. I am sure its a different story on nights when there are bands or acts here, but I have only been here after work for a little bit of the old forget-the-day sauce. The patrons are weird loners that wont really make eye contact with you. The bartenders are as friendly as you can expect them to be. The whole place just feels downtrodden, but in an endearing way. I have seen a woman fall down drunk by herself at like 6pm on a Monday night. Also the drinks are RIDICULOUSLY strong, so please if you even like yourself a little, spring a liquor upcharge to avoid the black death they pour from their rail booze. Overall this place has a weird type of charm that doesn't come at a premium.

Often overlooked for spots like Blues Alley, Takoma Station is host to of the finest DC/MD/VA jazz acts . Even though the name includes "Takoma" the building is technically in D.C. (it is right on the DC/MD line). Inside there is gentle listing and pale wood which gives it a welcoming vibe.

There's a large large plate-glass window in front so you can scope out the crowd that's inside . The music here is mainly entertainment, but sometimes you'll catch a R&B act, a go-go DJ, a comedian or reggae band. All of this for no cover!

The food here is pretty good- I recommend the catfish or the Bernie Burger. The drinks are well priced, there is a dance floor to get your groove on and a friendly twenty something/thirty something crowd.
