I was shocked to find a small Cuban restaurant on this stretch of Touhy - right across the street from Long John Silver's. But it's there and it's awesome!
I've eaten there a good handful of times, always for lunch. The ropa vieja is my hands down favorite. The jibarito is good, but messy (as it should be) and their steak for sandwiches is perfect - thinly sliced and well marinated. For some reason I have it in my head that their Cuban Sandwich isn't pre-made (I could be crazy) like most places, which is nice for people who don't like mustard (ahem: my girlfriend) but otherwise love the sandwich.
The prices are great too, particularly the lunch specials. More than enough food.
I have only been here twice (so far) and I have had the white rice and black beans and both are cooked to perfection. So much flavor with so little ingredients. The tostones maduro are delish as is the arroz con gandules. I also recommend the lechon and bistec sandwiches.
The staff is very friendly and I always have my food ready in the time promised for pickup.
The only thing I wouldnt recommend is the "roasted vegetables" dish. I was hoping to get chunky bites of "seasonal" veggies like zuccini or squash or mushrooms, maybe on a skewer, but got shredded peppers and onions and tomatoes, it was too squishy of a combo for me -if that makes sense.
I think I will check out the rest of the menu and I will definitely be back.
Thanks guys!
