I love this restaurant. It is a bit pricey but hey when it's not in my budget to go, I don't go! The food is always excellent and dressing on the salad is great. I'm not a big salad person but after tasting their salad I've given other salads a chance. I've never had to wait because they don't get super busy. A big reason I give all 5 stars is because on top of the great food the service is great. The owner and servers are wonderful people and awesome at what they do.
Review Source:i really wanted to like this place because the service was so good & the owner is so nice, which is why i gave the 2nd star, at best this place is mediocre. I went with my fiancée and her parents on a Sunday afternoon. This place came highly recommended by a family friend. We drove about 45 minutes to get here, it's a nice ride in a quaint town, lots of history in the area. As you can tell i am trying to dance around leaving a review. Anyway, from the outside this place looks like a diner, we walk in, the bar is to the right, dining room to the left. Maybe someone was smoking outside with the door open, in any event the place stunk of cigarette smoke. The place is dead empty with the exception of 2 older women drinking at the bar. They gave us a nice seat by the window with a view of the house full of garbage across the street. The decor of the place is WOW, i can't explain, it's just odd, lots of borders and weird paint treatments but the place is clean, definitely doesn't come across as a Spanish restaurant. The Owner comes over and he could not have been any nicer, he spoke in Spanish with my in-laws, he was nice as pie. We looked at the menus, i ordered paella, fiancée ordered some mixed fish w garlic and oil, mother in law ordered grilled tilapia, father in law baked salmon. For appetizers we ordered fried calamari and the entrées came with a salad.
Okay the salads come out, very basic, lettuce, tomato and a few olives with a homemade dressing which looked like French but didn't taste like it, it was pretty tasty. The salads were skimpy though.
The calamari comes out, i'm almost positive it was frozen boxed calamari, if you've ever had it you'll know what i mean, each ring is the same size, no legs etc. they weren't horrible but definitely not delicious. it came with some marinara dipping sauce that was very bland.
i got my "paella" in name and name only. Basically a bunch of overcooked mussels, clams & shrimp with rice. Damn that stuff was chewy.
My fiancée's dish had the same issue, hers was more tasty but overcooked.
The in-laws didn't say much about their food, i guess because they brought us there.
The sangria couldn't have been more watered down.
The hot bread was good.
The Bill for the 4 entree's a pitcher of Sangria and 4 cups of coffee... $170.00 Wayyyyy over priced for mediocre food.
Good service, salad dressing & bread = we won't be going back!
Great food and service, mediocre drinks and high prices make for a 3 star rating. (I'd give it an extra half star if I could just because of the excellent service) I'd go back if I were in the area and splitting the bill, but I won't drive out of my way to go.
Service was excellent. The owner came over to ask how things were twice. This place is pricey, but I think the food is worth it. Â Coupons are also available on http://restaurants.com, which is what enticed us to drive out of the way to this place.
Though there is not much variety in the menu, everything we had was delicious. Â We shared the paella as an appetizer and it was exactly what paella should be. Â I had the shrimp in green sauce with a side of vegetables. The vegetables were as good as it gets, but the shrimp were lacking in flavor. I would add garlic, or at least some salt to make it better. Â My boyfriend enjoyed his steak last night and says it was even better the second time (there was plenty leftover for a whole second meal!) and we both loved the yellow rice, which was full of flavor, yet not overpowering.
I was disappointed with the sangria. It was good, but not as fruity as I would have liked. I've had better. I also thought the alcohol was overpriced. $8 for a Corona bottle is a little ridiculous. And $20 for a small pitcher of mediocre sangria just didn't seem worth it to me.
I'd also like to add that the place was surprisingly empty on the Saturday night before Valentine's Day. I really thought it would be busier and I think this may be an indication that business is not going well for this place, so try it while you still can!
The staff at Taste of Spain are incredibly welcoming and are eager to make sure you enjoy your time at the restaurant. The menu isn't too interesting in that I saw very safe dishes that could've passed for cuisine from other counties than Spain. The food was good, but not excellent. My dish (Veal Taste of Spain) was overcooked to the point that I could only eat 1/3 of it and didn't want the rest doggie-bagged. The vegetable sides were delicious though. My friend's dish was good - she had a paella dish that she said she enjoyed. The desserts are nothing special...You can get the same at a local diner. Nothing Spanish. Even though the food was mediocre, the service was beyond excellent. However, I didn't feel like I got a "Taste of Spain" as the name of the restaurant implies.
