With so many great gyro places in Denver its been difficult to pull myself away from the proven good locations and try some of these other less know locations. The Tasty Kabob has been around for awhile now and I finally had a chance to give them a try. I got the beef and lamb gyro for about $8.00. Once unwrapped the gyro was neatly prepared and looked good. The meat was not cut  the same length or thickness but was layered neatly with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and tzatziki sauce all wrapped up in the pita bread. At most places they are in such a rush to make to gyros that they fall apart and are very messy. This was not the case here. The food was good and tasty.  There was not anything that really popped out at me but I would come back here again.
The restaurant is small had about 6 tables. Being in a strip-mall there was plenty of parking.
Overall, very viable spot for a quick and cheap lunch in Aurora.
Whenever I get the chance, I like to stop in and try chicken shawarma and various places that offer it; Tasty Kabob certainly did not disappoint me. I don't live that far away, and that's lucky because I have found myself going back several times to satisfy that craving. Oh, and that hummus -- yum!
I can't speak for much else on the menu yet; can't get past the shawarma. The staff is always friendly and ready to tend to your order - just be prepared to wait 10-20 minutes while your food is prepared.
Will be back soon!
Tasty Kabob I heart you.....
Was here with N after running some errands on Friday October 5th 2012. Â When we first arrived at the parking lot, I thought, Tasty Kabob did not open, so I called them since its already 11:15hrs. Â Thankfully they did, and the lady who answered my call apologized if they were running slightly late that morning.
We were the first patrons dining in that morning. Â With this recent visit, I found out, that Tasty Kabob NO LONGER offer the Lamb Shank. Â *Sad Face* Â Oh well life goes on.. so these were the items we ordered that morning/afternoon :
* Â N's order of Gyro with Rice
* Â My order of Shawarma with Rice
Both of our orders we opt for the sandwiches so, the meats comes in a pita bread. Â Instead of fries we opt for rice.
The meats are seasoned and cooked properly. Â The meats are so tender and flavorful. Â For the pricing of lunch, that is definitely affordable and portions are reasonable. Â Both N and I like our order that morning/afternoon. Â I even purchased TO GO Items for Hubs.
This time around I opt for
* Â Beef Kebab
* Â Gyro
While we were there the local Aurora police officers came in for Lunch dining in. Â It seems they are regulars at Tasty Kabob coz overheard the conversations between them and the owner. Â Left Tasty Kabob @ 12:20hrs. Â All the purchases for that morning/afternoon cost with tax was $32.28.
* Â Please do take note, there are slight different pricing reflected from several online website about the Menu from Tasty Kabob and the store Menu itself. Â *
Too bad, I did not managed to get to take the picture of the TO GO items before Hubs devoured them. Â 3.5 stars overall for Tasty Kabob. Â I dont mind returning to Tasty Kabob when in the neighborhood in a heartbeat.
@151/2012
Time for an update. Â I went back to Tasty Kabob for lunch (they were open this time). Â I had the beef Shawarma with a side salad. Â We also split had a separate order of French Fries. Â The prices were a little higher than I expected, but not too bad. Â The food also took a bit longer to come out than I expected, but was not excessive. Â The food itself was pretty good. Â The salad could have been a bit bigger, but it had a nice Mediterranean flavor. Â The fries were piping hot, cooked well, and were a generous portion. Â The Shawarma itself was hot and juicy with great Middle Eastern flavors. Â It was a bit sweeter than I expected, but was delicious and was quickly consumed. Â The dining area is on the small side, rather run down, and could be cleaner. Â This would not be an issue if you were doing take out.
Review Source:I had a couple of Middle Eastern food before and did not like them at all. Â I had plan to shoot darts at MVP's that day and decided to try out this place for my last assessment of Middle Eastern food. Â This restaurant turn my thoughts. Â One thing that I like about this place that the others did not and that it was clean and well air conditioned. Â I hate to eat in a place where I am too hot or too cold and seeing flies and nats. Â I am guessing that the man that served me was also the owner of the place because he was also the cook as well. Â He was great and really friendly.
The food was what made the difference because that was what I went in for. Â It was not overly seasoned or dull to taste. Â The lamb shank that I got was tender and the rest of the plate tasted really good.
The place is quite small, it used to be a Chinese take-out restaurant when I was younger. Â It's not a place for big groups, but if you wanted to order take out and go to MVP's and eat it there with a large group you could.
I won't sit here and feed you a line that Tasty Kabob is like amazingly tasty kabobs- they are decent kabobs. Good quality meat and the salad had like this magical dressing of awesomeness on it. I kid you not, I'd go in there just to eat the salad. I found the hummus lacking a certain something to push it over the edge from okay hummus to good hummus, but I wouldn't say no given the chance to eat it again.
I'll for sure come back but I might consider ordering to go, I felt very greasy and smelling like meat when I left. The kitchen is pretty much in the dining room and for parties of over 2 there's not a lot of places to sit. Not a tasty convert yet, but a decent lunch for a good price.
This place is the real deal! Â The Beef Shawarma has been so hard to get away from, but last time I was in they had Marguez sausage. Â If you haven't tried it, you have to! Â The owner turned it into a spicy sandwich for me and it was incredible! Â Now I have something other than the shawarma to indulge in when I swing by.
Review Source:I have been to Tasty Kabob twice now and it's never very busy. Â The food, however, is excellent. Â I had been across the street to Pita King I think, and man Tasty Kabob blows that place out of the water. Â Food preparation is a little slow, but everything is certainly made fresh. Â The owner and his wife are very friendly. Â The payment process is strange in that you order, eat, and then go back up to pay. Â Maybe if you don't like your food you don't have to pay. Â
I have ordered the beef schwarma and the beef kabob on my two trips. Â Both were out of this world excellent. Â The pitas were fresh. Â The beef was seasoned and cooked perfectly. Â The sauce on each was dialed-in. Â Best I've had for sure. Â If you've been going to Pita King or Garbanzo's please give Tasty Kabob a try. Â I'm afraid that their business may be unsustainable based on the volume I've seen the two times I have dined there. Â It would be a great shame if they had to close their doors.
As far as sides I've gone with the basmati rice each time rather than the fries. Â I have seen the fries and they look pretty pedestrian to me. Â The basmati rice is excellent eaten alone, added to your pita, or used as a mixing area for things that fall out of your pita at the end.
My wife got the chicken schwarma both trips and loved it too. Â I did not try it so I can't offer any specifics.
Please give these guys a try if you're interested in this type of food.
I went here last week, and I will definitely go back, because of the food. Â This place is tiny, and reading other reviews confused me, because there was one man working behind the counter and no waiters. Â I ordered at the counter and went back up to the counter to pay at the end. Â Because you sit after you order and food it brought out, we almost forgot to pay at the end until the man said (disgruntled, understandably) that we didn't pay him yet. Â How embarrassing! Â I think he thought we did it on purpose :(. Â Ordering at the counter before a meal works out best with paying up front (LIke Wahoos fish tacos!)
PROS:
Fairly cheap. We ordered appetizer of falafal (5 pieces), 1 gyro, one beef shwarma sandwich, and 1 dessert (forgot the name) that was shredded filo on cheese/custard type thing, and one soda. We had a small bowl of saffron rice. Â Our total was about 26 dollars.
Tastes great. Â I liked it a lot. Â I wasn't too hot about the dipping sauce for the falafal, but everything else was really good, and the vegetables were fresh.
CONS:
Setting/decor. Â It's definitely mom and pop style, TEENY place. Â It looks old, but not dirty, which is good. Very strange color choices for a small space. Â (And I should know: I watch TONS of HGTV :p) Walking in is a tight row of 2 seater tables, and I think there was a 4 seater in the front and a 4 seater in the back. Â It's a tight squeeze! Â Â
I was a little nervous to try the food after seeing wet rags on pots on the stove. I asked what it was, and it was the rice. Â The rice was delicious, so I guess those rags were working. HA. Â The good news is that I enjoyed the meal and did not get sick after, which is a good sign.
BOTTOM-LINE: Â I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Â For the price/ quantity/ taste, it's a pretty good deal.
After many visits to multiple middle eastern restaurants, Tasty Kabob remains the best Kabob place in Denver. Â The quality of meat and the skillful preparation remains unsurpassed. Â Their rice deserves a mention as well, definitely one of the top for me. Â Note: try their zalook, it's a must for eggplant lovers.
Review Source:I would really go 4.5 stars here if I could. Â Solid food- I had the chicken kabob sandwich, hubby had the kafta kabob sandwich, both with sides of rice and we split a hummus. Â Hummus was good- not mind blowing. Â Sandwiches were TOP notch, better then any gyro, or pita sandwich I have had in Colorado. Â Chicken had great flavor, loved the just-right amount of char on the kabob veggies, and whatever the sauce was...yum. Â Same for the Kafta Kabob - which if I remember right was a lamb/beef combo. Â Rice was a great option over the standard fries as a side- and was a good size serving of saffron-y goodness. Definitely no frills as mentioned before- but clean and enough wall decorations to be interesting. I have no problem with plastic-ware to eat with, or my soda served in a can, perhaps some would not be as easy going.
Review Source:After my fifth visit to Tasty Kabob in the last sixty days (that alone says a lot), I thought I'd let other Yelpers know about this great little place.
First, to ambience/decor and other distinctly non-food related matters that seem to matter so much to others. Â If you're looking for white tablecloths, roaming string quartets, waitstaff that is by turns fawning and disdainful, well, this is not your place. Â This is the archetype for an immigrant family - I mean family, pops is cooking (in an ineffably wondrous manner, by the way), mom will be ringing up your bill and son #1 is in the back doing his homework, goofing around like your average 6 year old, keeping an eye on son #2, whatever - coming to this country dropping some wicked good eats on the local populace and making good. Â And they make it damned good. Â The family is about as nice as you could hope to meet and is warm and welcoming to all who have come in whilst I was there.
I've tried at least 7 different dishes (stole some off the wife's plate several times) and they've all been top notch. Â The gyros are better than anything I've had in the States and as good as those I had in Europe. Â The kafta is the best I've had. Â Same for the shawarma. Â Ideally, I'd like a little more garlic in my hummus, but I'll readily cop to my garlic addiction, so I won't hold that against them. Â Rice is really nice. Â Portions are so large as to border on the obscene, so unless you're a sumo wrestler looking to bulk up in one stop, you'll not be disappointed there. Â The only downsides are that some of the older menus indicate that they offer couscous, which they no longer do and the fact that the bread/pita is not made in-house.
Last week we went in with our two boys, ages 5 & 6. Â My wife's a truly excellent cook, so their willingness to try things that haven't come from mom's kitchen is generally somewhere between low and non-existent. Â For the first time that I can remember, they not only ate everything on their plates, but devoured it and began to prowl the table like ravenous wolves seeking more. Â
Do yourself a favor and get down there. Â You'll be back again (and again, and again...). Â Guaranteed.
My husband has been begging me to try Tasty Kabob for awhile now after hearing how great they are from a few coworkers. It's not too far from our house so on a whim one night we ordered it for take out. Honestly I wasn't expecting much since I'm not a huge fan of Middle eastern food.
We ordered 3 dishes for our family. The Chicken and Lamb Kabob, Chicken and Beef Kabob and Chicken Shawarma. Each dish came with a large side if hummus, rice and a salad. This was the perfect way for our family to get to try a few items off the menu.
This meal was a hit in the house and I think we've found our new take-out place ! The meat was done to perfection with just the right amount of spice.
We will be back for sure !
Not exactly a place you would take your first date, this no frills hole-in-the-wall is all about the food. Â And a really nice guy cooking it. Â After hearing my co-worker rave about it it was time to have a taste.
The beef kabob plate was big enough for two and the meat cooked to my preference. Â It came with two large skewers on a large bed of rice with a small salad, naan and hummus. Â The meat was tender with a subtle marinade flavoring which was complimented by the yellow basmati rice. Â The salad had a light oil dressing and the hummus was creamy and smooth. Â Delicious!
My entree was $13 but there are many choices on the menu for less than $10.
I love finds like these! Â Mom and pop places you can't get anywhere else!
Excellent food here. I had the beef kabob this second time around, and it was perfect. When you order the entree you get hummus, basmati rice and salad. The meat is cooked to order, and is very tender. The hummus is the best I've had. Tonight, we also had their baba ganoush. It was awesome!
The folks running this place are the friendliest I have had the pleasure of meeting. I hope this small business is able to stick around for a long time.
Great food and wonderful people. I will be going back as much as I can.
Tasty Kabob is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves decent Moroccan and Middle Eastern food. I give this place 3 stars because the restaurant itself is a bit dingy, and the owners had their young son in the kitchen playing his recorder and making noise. My husband and I ate there on a Saturday night since it was close to the house and somewhere we hadn't been to yet. We ordered hummus as an appetizer, but it was pretty bland. My husband had the Beef Moroccan Couscous and I ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate. Both were HUGE servings. It's definitely enough for two meals. A couple could easily share a dish. My chicken shawarma was really tasty. The rice had good flavor. I love the garlicky sauce that you pour over the chicken and rice. It comes with a little side salad and even MORE hummus. If you do order a plate, ask if it comes with hummus, so you don't waste money ordering the appetizer. My husband's couscous was amazing. He ate a little bit and took most of it home. We shared it the next day after our long runs (17 miles for me and 19 miles for him). Boy, did the couscous taste delicious after that! In fact, I enjoyed the couscous so much that I've found some couscous recipes to make. I think it may be my new favorite pasta/starch. If you go to Tasty Kabob, I'd recommend ordering to-go (or even calling it in to pick up). Go with the Couscous or Shawarma. The food does get 4 stars.
