I so wanted to love this place. Â I had heard great things and read the reviews, so we decided to try it on a special occasion. Â What a huge disappointment! Â The restaurant was pretty empty so we were seated right away. Â Things went south after that. Â Our server didn't take our drink order (not even water) for over 5 minutes. The soda was completely flat, so we asked for bottled soda from the bar. Â The waitress actually rolled her eyes and huffed at the request! Then left for another 10 minutes
We weren't asked for our orders for nearly 20 minutes - even though we tried to get the waitress's attention and the place only had maybe 3 other small parties.  She was too busy gabbing with the other wait staff and the cooks.  Only when we finally got a chance to order did she mention they were out of beef. Yes, out of beef!  That would have been nice to know when she handed us the menu. She stood there tapping her foot and sighing heavily as we tried to quickly order other items  - but in retrospect should have cut our losses and bailed.  It took an additional 25 minutes to get our food.  Now, if it were really busy I could see why it would take so long for a children's meal and sandwiches for 3 adults, but how frustrating to watch the staff gossip with the cooks on the line - yes we could hear it all - and then have our food arrive cold and the orders completely messed up.  Even my little one thought it wasn't very good and asked if we could go somewhere else.
The waitress was really upset that she had to take back the undercooked chicken and ask the kitchen for HOT fries. Â I mean visibly upset - like angry! Â We told her to forget it and were getting up to leave when the manager appeared with a great attitude and desire to make things right. Â I really appreciated how professional and courteous he was, but frankly, it was too late to make anything right. Â
We left and - I kid you not - drove through McDonald's on the way home.
We always get great service here. Steve was no exception. I had the crab cake appetizer and the cedar plank salmon with asparagus instead of the green beans it usually comes with. It was a delicious meal - one of my favorites. My fiancé had the delmonico bison of which I had a bite. It was mouthwatering! If you're in the Clay Terrace area don't pass up Ted's!
Review Source:This place was a let down. I had heard if you want a good hamburger, this is the place. I am not big on eating meat these days but when I do, I want it to be worth it. This was not., the place was empty, service was still very slow and the food lacked flavor. I won't go out of my way to make a return visit.
Review Source:Rock solid medium rare bison burger (mustard and grilled onions thank you) w/ killer onion rings. Â I think the atmosphere is dead on for this place. Â Wifey got the bison burger w/ cheddar and bacon and side of fries w/ ranch dressing. Â I seemingly ate 2 bowls of the dill pickles (don't know how that happened sweetie) and we shared a side of chili. Â
Overall our burgers, rings and fries were top notch. Chili was warm and cooled quickly - I'll send back if happens again - but it was very very flavorful. Â Sure wasn't busy for lunch - but took longer than 45-50 minutes for lunch. That wasn't because we were leisurely dining either.
Sure there's cheaper places for a burger but this place is worth the little extra. Â Excellent wait staff, and manager checked how we were doing LONG before we were finished and had the tab there.
You bet I'll be back. Â I just hope it's not on the possible closing list due to shortage of customers due to construction.
Went with the 4.  This place reminds me of somewhere my dad would have liked.  Its designed to feel like a restraunt/tavern from the past and it pulls if off well.  The food is straight forward and a little old fashioned and  but done very well.  Bison is a specialty as the name suggest. Great burgers.
Review Source:Had their Delmonico Beef Ribeye (medium rare). Wow! Very tasty, tender, and very large (14 oz!). Also had the asparagus and a sweet potato...both cooked just right.
The waiter was very polite and prompt.
No complaints whatsoever. This was a special treat for me...I would definitely come back again whenever we can afford it.
Great service, great burgers. The New Mexico is particularly awesome.
I love that give you half sour pickles as your 'starter' instead of bread or anything. It's different and they are delicious!
My husband is a burger guy and he was very impressed. The prices are fair and the portions are huge. He loved that you can do a 50/50 with your side and get half onion rings and half fries instead of all fries.
I loved that all the burgers can be made with veggie burgers. Of course, they are the standard Boca, but at least it's an option. You don't find that everywhere.
It's a little (lot!) noisy, but overall, a really good experience.
Service was excellent. The food was good - fresh but sometimes overcooked. Here's the breakdown: Kids chicken tenders and fries was good. Bison post roast with mashed potatoes and green beans was excellent. Chicken caesar salad was fresh. Ted's beef filet, butterflied, was seasoned well but slightly overcooked. The roasted asparagus was so salty as to be almost inedible, and cooked to the point of destruction. The avalon burger was good, but needed more aoli and less lettuce.
I would definitely try it again, based on service, but might order a few different items. For the price point, I've had more satisfying meals.
I'll start and say that this place is a solid 4. The food is rather tasty and cooked well. The only negative thing i can say, is that the service can be bad/slow. I suggest the SOB burger medium rare and the Strawberry shortcake, when in season. Â The shortcake IS the best I've ever had.
Review Source:Before going to Ted's I had checked Yelp and seen generally positive reviews. Â Having said that, I wasn't expecting all that much out of the place going in to dinner.
I was pleasantly surprised. Â I ordered the cedar plank salmon (lunch portion) with green beans and I substituted a sweet potato for the mashed potatoes. Â The green beans were great, the sweet potato was perfect on its own without requiring any butter or brown sugar, and the salmon was cooked and seasoned PERFECTLY. Â
The service was also great. Â After tip my meal was $23. Â Not bad at all for quality food.
This review is tainted by a very odd, creepy server. Â I went for dinner and had the bison ribeye. Â It was ok, but I think the burger is a much better selection. Â I also ordered the Cabo Margarita and it was prepared well and tasted good. Â The meal was ok, nothing great, but the server really made us uncomfortable. Â I appreciate the effort in recycling they do, and the restaurant seemed well decorated. Â I might go again, but it's not a must do again.
Review Source:So I'm in Indy for work again and the typical "Where do we go for dinner?" dilema comes up. Being the only Yelper in the group, I bring it up on the iPhone and quickly find that Ted's Montana Grill's got great ratings and it's only 5 miles away. Off to Ted's we go.
Once again a great find. Thank you Yelp!
Ted's, as we later found out, is a famous steak house chain out of Hawt-lanta owned by who else but Ted Turner (he pretty muchowns  everything in Atlanta).
They have a decent list of daily specials. Today being Monday, we tried the spicy bison chili. Man that's gooood chili!
Their specialty is steak, both beef and bison. I highly recommend trying the bison steak (best when ordered medium). They have no freezers or microwaves at Ted's so everything is buthered on site and prepared fresh every day. The bison come from Mr. Turner's private ranch out west.
Aparently they have a great list of deserts but by that point we were all too stuffed on delicious bison meat that we couldn't even think about desert. I will definately come back here next time I'm in town.
Found a new great restaurant with Ted's. Bison burgers were tummy - not a real strong beefy taste and you can tell it was never frozen. Looking forward to trying the bison steak. Everything is home made and very healthy.
We ended up going back and I got a steak this time. Unfortunately it had lots of grissel, and the waiter noticed it all on my plate, so he called the manager over. He said that was totally unacceptable and that they are going to change their bison provider and they took my meal off the tab. Â We still are impressed with Ted's and plan on going back.
I really like it here. Â Everything is really classy. Â I like the paper straws!
They serve sliced pickles instead of bread, which is kind of cool. Â Tasty.
You HAVE to get the Bison Burger if you go here. Â Not saying get it every time, but it is really yummy. Â Plus, it is much healthier than ground beef.
I suggest any burger with guacamole. Â Deliciouso.
Ted's is excellent for what it is. It is a downhome burger place. The service is efficient and friendly. They serve Bison which is lean and delicious, and they have cold beer. When I want a consistent meal, I go here. Love it. It's not the Taj Mahal of dining, but I love it on a lazy Friday night.
Review Source:I have one - er, two - things to say about Ted's Montana Grill: great crab cakes and addictive cherry lemonade!
For a chain steakhouse, Ted's does a decent job of delivering consistently tasty food at reasonable prices. The only complaint I've ever had about this location is that the weekend wait for a table can be long...but, that's true of just about any Indy metro restaurant at that time.
We've always had good service here and we usually have a large party of 10-12 when we visit, so that's saying something. I've sampled a few of the menu items, but my personal favorites are still the crab cakes - either as a dinner or appetizer - and the veggie plate. Come to think of it, Ted's may be the only place I know of other than Cracker Barrel that offers a veggie plate as a dinner option. The endless glass of cherry lemonade always hits the spot and is neither too sweet nor too tangy. What have I forgotten.....?? Oh yeah, the amazing super-crispy onion rings and the spicy garlic "house" pickle slices that come to your table after you're seated..delish!
I LOVE THIS PLACE. I have had so many great meals here I can't tell you about just one. Here is a little overview: Super nice decor, think steak house w/ a little retro feel. Great big booths, tables w/ picnic-esque table clothes, and in the bathroom marble stalls with borax powder soap to wash your hands.
The major difference than any other steakhouse is that they specialize in bison (it is a leaner, healthier meat than beef but with all the flavor). The menu contains 2 full pages devoted to sandwiches.. choice of beef, bison, or chicken with just about any topping imaginable. They have great salads, the house dressing is a blt ranch.. all i know is it is bacon, tomatoes, chives and ranch all mixed together!
The also have entrees; steaks, prime, salmon, beer can chicken, meatloaf, etc. Every day they have a different soup and diff. blue plate special...Saturday is bison short rib day (i have had it a few too many times) I think Friday is crab cakes.. not just any crab cakes delicious mounds of big chunks of crab served with mashed avocado... heaven!
Service is usually okay but nothing to right home about.. never really any problems but not the kind of place to go the extra step. Which is why this is only a 4 star rating.
