Food is ok, love that they have a gluten free beer. But service is so touch and go. Sometimes you get someone nice, and sometimes like tonight; it started off nice then we kept getting asked if we wanted food, while we had a thing of food in front of us. Half way through our stay they did a staff change. Then we randomly got our check, guess we were done! After waiting for ever to pay, we wanted our bill split down the middle, and the guy asked if we wanted to take the tip out. What the what. I am not sure why he assumed he would get a tip from how he was acting. Â This place is so touch and go, this was on a Friday night so you would think they would have awesome staff.. Eh... :/
Review Source:This was my third trip to Tellers in the last month. Â Once for a late lunch, and twice for brunch. Â My first two experiences were pretty good. Â I was happy to have a decent place close to home. Â I got a burger on my first visit which was great. Â The second time I went I had the fried chicken and waffles. Â Oh, that was delicious. Â Huge and delicious. Â My husband had the breakfast burrito which was kind of small and not special. Â The service was efficient and cheerful.
Today I had a bummer experience. Â I asked the server to help me decide between the eggs benny and the croque madame. Â She said definitely, the croque madame and asked if I wanted breakfast potatoes instead of fries. Â I thought that was nice, so I went for the breakfast potatoes. Â My husband ordered the fried chicken and waffles this time.
A food runner delivered our food after going to wrong tables. Â The croque madame wasn't anything special. Â It was regular deli ham, and just wasn't very good. Â The breakfast potatoes were underseasoned and I bit into several moldy/black bits of potato that tasted disgusting and ruined my taste buds. Â I would have told the server if she ever came back. Â My mimosa sat empty for the whole meal. Â She walked past several times and it seemed like she went out of her way not to look at us while we were eating. Â My husband's fried chicken was much greasier than what I had had the time before. Â Overall, very disappointing brunch- I probably won't go back unless it's for a beer and burger.
Fairly good beer selection. Â I like the fact that they have rarer beers, like unfiltered Blue Moon brewed in the small brewery inside Coors Field. Â The service, though, is what really sets this place apart. Â The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Â I guess this makes up for the food?
Review Source:Fantastic bar food when coming back from hiking in the mountains. 4th of July wasn't considered a weekend, so we missed out on brunch, but very pumped about the burger selection. The Whiskey Burger was sizable, and came with a great Stranahan's BBQ sauce. The fries were great, and chipotle mayo on the side was awesome.
We started the meal with Truffle Tater Tots and Fried Brussel Sprouts. Don't doubt anything I said in the previous sentence - just get them. You will not be disappointed. Very pleased, and the service was spot on, even on a slower day. Quite happy for a Yelp find while we were out on the road. Will certainly stop here again if we're out in the area.
After coming here about 5 times, I just don't think we'll be back. Â We get seated quickly, and the food is OK, but the service is always been terrible. Â I've had my order not come our right 3 of the 5 times I've been there. Â And it wasn't that complicated - just asked for the BBQ sauce on the side of my $14 chicken sandwich, which is robbery. Â It's nice for the kids that they have games there, but the food is so overpriced and the service so bad that I just cannot justify going there and spending $60 on a Friday night for dinner with my family. Â We'll head across the street to Mountain Tap instead.
Review Source:I wanted to go here for months. The reviews looked good and I always found myself driving by. Let me preface by saying how much I love happy hours. We got here and were able to get a table in the sun room right away. The atmosphere was cool and easy going. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything on the happy hour menu that screamed "must get!" Based on the advice of so many others, I immediately ordered the parm tots. They are worth getting! I wasn't a huge fan of their fish and chips and the au jus for my French dip was way too salty! I ended up dipping in ketchup. As for the beer, maybe I was expecting too much, but somehow Teller's didn't meet my expectations. Everything seemed a bit pricey and my food could have used improvement for a bar/restaurant trying to be "the third place" behind work and home. I can't see myself feeling that comfortable here and becoming a regular. On a side note, we were half way through our meal when the table behind us was seated. The waitress spilled a cup of something all over the girl. There was an exchange of apologies, but the waitress never came back with napkins or towels for the drenched diner. When the two napkins at their table were soaked, the boyfriend finally got up to find someone to help them. A bit horrified at their service, I thanked my lucky stars we didn't get that waitress! At least the manager ended up coming by (hopefully to offer them free drinks).
Review Source:I've been wanting to try Teller's because every time I drive by it appears to be very busy. Â I went to lunch at Teller's before a meeting on a Thursday around 11:30. Â There was a nice crowd, but not overwhelming. Â The server was friendly and accommodating (offered us to go cups for our drinks). Â
The food was good, but slightly overpriced . Â I got the Verde burger, a hamburger smothered in green chili and cheese. Â The burger was flavorful and the chili was delicious. Â The Verde burger came with fries and cost $11.00. Â A plain burger with fries is $9.00. Â
As this is an old 7-Eleven, parking is minimal and many people have to park in the lot across the street.
I just absolutely loved this restaurant. Apparently it was an old 7-11 that was converted to a taproom/restaurant. It has a local and chic/hip/modern feel to the decor.
The food and service were excellent. Start off with the truffle tots, they will blow your mind. For my main course, I ordered the cheese and apple sandwich with the side of tomato bisque. Both were perfectly cooked and complimentary.
The Melted Monk - Imported Trappist-made Chimay cheese, Granny Smith apples & onions carmelized in honey from Colorado's western slope, on grilled cranberry raisin walnut bread with a cup of tomato bisque
Parking is a little strange. Since this place is so popular, there's an overflow lot across the street where you can play frogger to get to the restaurant (or be civilized and use a crosswalk). The traffic isn't that bad to cross, but if it's dark out, you should probably use the x-walk.
Next time I'm here, i would love to try the BBQ pork sandwich
After not really having any plans for St Pats eve and looking for a decent place for some dinner & drinks we ended up going to Teller's Taproom. Â As you might imagine it was a busy night, so they said it would be around 20 minutes for a table. Â Not a problem, we just made our way to the bar. Â We got some drinks and began taking the place in a bit. Â We all thought highly of the decor, lots of hardwood and a welcoming feel. Â You can still see some of the old design aspects from it's days as a 7-11 but not many. Â They did a great job of gutting and redoing everything. Â The crowd was a nice mix of young and old. Â I like it when the age range of a place goes from 21 to 71, it seems to create a good vibe. Â It always reminds me of what I think a local pub should be like.
The host and floor manager were great, after 20-25 minutes they checked back with us to apologize for not having a table yet. Â It's always good to know you weren't forgotten when the quoted time comes and goes.
Once seated we were waited on by a really nice server, who took our drink order and explained the special - corned beer and cabbage. Â We were starving and wanted something ASAP, so when she came back we ordered the grilled artichoke. Â After looking over the rest of the menu I decided on the prime rib, as did my GF. Â A few minutes after putting in the order the server came back and said she was sorry but there was only one portion of prime rib left. Â Well shockingly enough I didn't get the last one, so I joined our friend and went for the corned beef and cabbage. Â
After a short amount of time the main dishes show up, with no sign of the app we ordered. Â When we flagged down our server she apologized, ran to the back and came back to say it was her fault. Â Kudos for not passing the blame to the kitchen, which is the MO of most servers. Â When we told her we still wanted it she seemed surprised, and went to put in the order. Â I think they put a rush on it because when it came out a few minutes later it wasn't very grilled at all, and it wasn't exactly the best artichoke as far as size and edible bits go. Â My corned beef and cabbage was decent enough, and the chunk of prime rib I got to try was pretty good - even if the Prime Rib Au Jus didn't come with any au jus. Â
When the check came we were surprised that we were billed for the full price of the app, as it seemed to all of us that at the least it should've been discounted. Â At that point we decided it wasn't worth the effort to get a few bucks taken off and we'd just not be so quick to come back so we left. Â It's a shame when things are great on every level except one, one weak link can really have a bad overall affect. Especially with so many dining options out there these days. Â I'm sure I'll be back at some point, but it might be a while and it won't be because I suggested it.
I found this place browsing around yelp. I was pretty excited to come here. With that sad it was good, but I don't  love it. I would go back, but it is out of the way so there might be places that I would go to first.
I ordered the Portobello burger and I have to say it's probably the best that I've had. It was a nice size and the toppings of the avocado onions and swiss were excellent. I ordered the house made strannahans steak sauce which was amazingly great. The thing I wasn't so thrilled about was the juice that came from my burger. My bun was pretty soggy by the time I was done. I ate pretty fast with out putting the burger down, and almost didn't make it. The fries were just ok, but far from great.
The service was so-so. Not horrible, but defiantly could use some improvement. I guess a highlight would be you don't have to ask for condiments, there is a huge box of hot sauce and steak sauce on the table. Just a quick note not fond of all of the menu inserts. it was like going through a brochure for some type of procedure.
I am pretty sure you can't go wrong with $1 Mimosas and a large Bloody Mary Bar (Weekends only I believe). Â Not to mention one of the largest beer lists I think I have seen in a while. Â They offer quite a few local brews, a ton of non-locals and your basic standard beer as well. Â
Jeff S, Matt S, and I came here yesterday for my birfday lunch. I have been really wanting to try this place since it opened and tried to come here a couple of weeks ago, but it was a 45 minute wait. Â Upon talking to a friend, he said that a weekend day is a better time to go so you don't have to wait 45 minutes for a table. Â You can call ahead 15 minutes before your arrival though and get your name on the list which I found out yesterday. Â As other reviewers have said the parking lot is small but you can park across the street where there is ample parking. Â We were seated in about 5 minutes of our arrival which was great. Â
Our server Kristie greeted us and we placed our drink order. Â It did take a while to get the drinks, and place our food order but overall she was a lot of fun. Â She even did a couple of shots with us! Â I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich which was really good. Â The pork itself had a light smokey flavor to it and the sauce was good. Â Jeff & Matt both ordered the Whiskey Burger and the sauce that was on the burger was made with Stranahans whiskey which they were both excited about and it was really good. Â They seemed to really enjoy the burger and Matt was able to sub fresh jalapenos instead of getting the mushrooms on his burger. Â
I still can't get over that this used to be a 7-11 and I really like how they utilized the small space and were able to create a great restaurant from it. Â I am really glad I came here and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other items on the menu. Â Maybe a trip for brunch so I can indulge in the Bloody Mary Bar or the $1 Mimosas (I seriously can't believe they are only a buck!!!!!)
Happy Lunching or Brunching!
I absolutely love this place. Â Erin S. is graced with a St. Paddy's Day birthday, so she, Matt S. and I came here for lunch for the double celebration. Â They weren't taking reservations but we were seated pretty quickly. Â They offered some good specials for the day, $3 shots of whiskey and shillelaghs and $3 Guinness. Â They also had a Bloody Mary bar and a brunch and lunch menu. Â The tap list is very impressive, I had the aforementioned stout then noticed Lagunitas on the wall, something I don't see very often. Â Matt grabbed a brown that was really good, I ended up doing one of these also. Â (Maybe 2...) Â
For lunch, there wasn't anything on the menu that really jumped out at me so I went with a burger and I'm very glad I did. Â The whiskey burger was made with good quality meat, and a steak sauce they make with Stranahans whiskey. Â And what really impressed me was fresh jalapenos as a topping, as opposed to the pickled tripe that's on every other menu. Â Matt had the same, Erin ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I tried a small bite of the meat with the sauce. Â Very good flavor, I'd probably order this myself next time I come.
Christy was our server and we loved her. Â She was a bit slow to start off, but picked up and took very good care of us and joked and laughed the whole time.
Do you want to know the best part? Â If you go in on your birthday you get $25 worth of free booze! Â There is no way you can beat that deal! Â
I cannot wait to come back here, and I strongly recommend their burgers!
Cheers!
Since moving to the west side of town and out of highland, I've been looking for a 'local' watering hole...granted I am not going to be abandoning any of my favourites all over town, but it's nice to have a place nearby where you can get a good bite to eat and a decent drink and take in a little ambiance to boot.
When I heard that the purveyors of Sloans (my cheers bar while in school) had a joint in my neighborhood, I had to check it out! I was not disappointed. As others have said, they have what looks to be a great patio (its winter now, so we'll revisit this concept in the spring) and well-designed decor. It *almost* feels more upscale than sloans, but they share a lot of similarities, including several menu favorites. Teller's boasts a pretty extensive tap selection, with plenty of solid choices. Nothing on the beer list really shouted "adventurous", but I totally get the need to craft a draft program that is in line with the audience (being somewhat more suburban, somewhat older crowd). This may be an unfair judgement on the suburbs, and it may also just be what happened to be available when I went...time will tell!
The food is solid, the beers are solid, the happy hour isn't quite as generous as some places, (but hey, some happy hour is better than no happy hour, eh?) and the service was friendly if a touch slow.
All in all, Tellers is a great joint and I'm glad to live nearby, especially when bike season rolls around again!
An unexpected pleasure to have extensive salad choices. For drinks, Â I had a Batch 19 which was very tasty, and was intrigued by the beer flights and have a notion to try that another day!
From the owners of Sloan's there is now Teller's. so- good burgers, fries, french onion soup and ruebens are a given.
Thanks!
Great food, good service, and a lovely craft beer menu. Teller's offers an array of American cuisine that's served quickly and correct the first time. The beer menu provides an option for everyone and is impressive considering this place was once an old convenience store. The prices are reasonable, but parking is non existant. You will likely have to park across the street at the mini mall.
I recommend the hamburgers. They are all great and cooked specifically to order.
This place has an excellent beer selection, first and foremost. If you're a self-proclaimed beer-nerd, try this place out! This side of town doesn't seem to have many "fancy" beer places (yet?) so this place definitely stands out.
We've had nothing but excellent service at Teller's the few times we've visited. During one of our Brunch visits, one of our steaks came out "medium well" instead of "medium rare." Honestly, the steak was still so damn good we didn't even care! haha. However, the waitress promptly noticed and apologized, asking if we wanted another steak. We declined. A short while later, the manager came over and apologized as well, informing us that he was going to comp that steak!
I go out to eat a lot, and that level of service is definitely a rarity! We really appreciated the gesture.
They get 5 stars for:
Awesome and rotating beer selection
Nice variety of food on the menu, with above-par ingredients (I love the locally sourced stuff!)
Tasty, affordable brunch
Excellent service from the waitstaff and management
I recommend this place wholeheartedly. Yeah the parking situation sucks a little but does nothing to impede my enjoyment of the place.
An otherwise pleasant afternoon (my fourth visit to Teller's) was marred by the bartender's selective attention to detail.
When I first approached (Name Retracted), she offered me Beer and Happy Hour Food menus. I confirmed that it was indeed Happy Hour (.75 off drafts she told me) and I proceeded to order the $5 Wings from the menu that she provided. Incidentally, those wings were a bit undercooked, but still serviceable.
When the tab arrived later and I asked why my wings were a $9 instead of $5, Bartender informed me that Happy Hour food offers are valid only on Monday-Friday and not on Saturday. And yes, it did state as much (in very small font type) right there in the menu.
She then said, "That's why you got 9 wings and not 6 wings." As if I was supposed to know the difference, when BIG BOLD $5 wings was the only thing I could order from the menu provided. The messed-up part was I actually assumed that I had been given a slightly generous portion! It's not like I was actually counting those chicken wings.
Bartender sensed my surprise and discontent ... and then proceeded to ignore me for the remainder of my very limited stay. BIG MISTAKE.
Don't get me wrong here. Bartender did a terrific job and was very knowledgeable about the beer selection. It's just that she had the opportunity to inform me on several occasions about Teller's menu confusion/idiosyncrasies and utterly failed to do so.
And that's why we're at 2/5 instead of 4/5 stars .
Oh well, right? I mean, that extra $4 sale was worth it, right?
Okay, I think an update is in order because in my original post I stated that the "food was just okay."
Well, I've been trying different items on their menus during the free shows, and I need to improve that statement.
The portions are large, the burgers are delicious and customizable, and the service is seriously some of the best you can find in town.
Highly recommended and one of my new favs.
Granted they have a good selection of beer, their version of 10oz is much different than mine. Seemed pricey for what you get. The food wasn't anything special, they claim to have great burgers, but there are many other places I would rather go for the price. They seem like they are trying too hard to stand out instead of just simply standing out.
Review Source:I met a friend here for Happy Hour yesterday and was completely floored by the gorgeous decor! Â I'd only driven by like a hundred times and finally remembered that I wanted to try it. Â So glad I did! Â This looks and feels like a trendy hot-spot you'd see in the Highlands but it's right in the middle of Applewood. Â
They had some decent HH specials on beer, wine and snacks, which we took full advantage of. Â I had an order of the HH kettle chips (with a side of Ranch dressing) for $3. Â The chips were thin and crispy although I would have preferred that they were served warm. Â
As we sat there watching all these great-looking plates pass by we decided to call the hubby and have him meet us for dinner. Â They were out of ahi, so my friend opted for the blackened salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries. Â She mentioned that the salmon was "extremely blackened" but didn't seem to have trouble finishing the sandwich, so I think she enjoyed it. Â The hubby had fish 'n chips. Â Light crispy batter, mild white fish... served screaming hot (just like I like it), however the fries were nothing to write home about and seemed unworthy of even taking up space on the same plate. Â I had the French onion soup and it was just right for a cold night. Â The broth was rich and beefy and oniony with a good cap of stretchy cheese that was browned in just enough places to keep the texture interesting and not too chewy.
All in all I think this is a fabulous addition to the neighborhood and I plan on spending many more Happy Hours in that gorgeous dining room and trying out more of their menu offerings.
Because my husband and I are adventurous -- as well as always on the hunt for a good burger -- we decided to try the burgers at both Teller's Taproom and Kitchen and Park Burger, one after the other. Both places were recommended highly to us for their great burgers by a friend. We wanted to see for ourselves, of course.
Teller's Taproom and Kitchen won, hands down. We ordered a regular burger with cheddar. It came out thick and juicy, much thicker than the other burger we'd just tried. We also, just for grins, ordered the fried brussels sprouts appetizer. Now...we love us some brussels sprouts and make them at home often with bacon or pancetta. The brussels sprouts at Teller's were nothing like ours, therefore not as good, but they were still quite tasty. I'm sure people who don't obsess about brussels sprouts preparation would be impressed --- so if that's you, try them.
The service was excellent. The food came out fast and hot, which we appreciated. The beer list is fairly extensive as well, which my husband liked. Their sodas come out in a big Ball jar which was neat, too.
All in, a good meal, certainly better than the other burger we had. We'll be back again, especially (as per my husband) for that beer list!
I went to school not too far from here and thought I'd check it out being in the neighborhood after many years. Â There was a good selection of quality beers and the happy hour menu has some interesting options, I ended up asking what the mixed olives were, and was told olives with their pits in them in oil and herbs. Â I ordered that and sure enough, that is what I got a good sized bowl of olives and some napkins. Â A little weird to just chow down on some olives with nothing else, maybe some crackers, bread, would have been a help. Â Nice decor and the staff was friendly and seemed to be especially with the regulars.
Review Source:We've been there a few times in recent weeks because we were so impressed after our first visit. The waiter and host both remembered us (probably helps that my husband is memorable on his crutches and back brace) and remembered that its easier for my husband to sit in a booth in his condition. Great beer selection, lots of local brews. Husband loves the wings. I love the tomato bisque. Actually, I think everyone loves the tomato bisque. Homemade chips that aren't greasy and are super crisp. Brought my mom when she was visiting and she liked what she had as well. I like that there are always people there, but it never feels loud or too busy. Great neighborhood hangout type restaurant.
Review Source:I think its pretty much have all been covered:
Nice patio with "windows" that open up to the restaurant
Smaller parking lot
Smaller menu
Lots of beers available
Geeks Who Drink location
Best redo/remodel of a 7-11
Hubby had the fish and chips; I had the BBQ sandwich; both were very good but about $2 overpriced for the location/food. Â A co-worker told me this place had the best green chile and I was going to order that but alas, no suitable side to that available for an entree - so maybe another time with a beer. Honestly, the inflated prices might keep me away, though.
I'm *only* giving Teller's 4 of 5 stars because I did not have a chance to try their food... I was too busy playing, singing & socializing... but I've been assured by others that the pub's fare was great! They took a chance on our small group (of 50+) and did an outstanding job... both days (August 5 & 6, 2012)! Loved the wide array of local craft brews and that they allowed us to set up and play on the front patio, very cool and accommodating. Will definitely keep Teller's in mind for our next Rocky Mountain Rustfest.
Peace, Love & Live Music Is Better (bumper-stickers have been issued!).
Teller's Taproom is a pretty standard restaurant/bar. I haven't had anything there that has seriously blown my mind, nor have I had anything that has just sucked. The food tastes pretty good, but the prices are a bit steep. The beer selection is fairly nice, but once again the prices are set at a premium level ($5 a pint).
Other than the food, it's a really nice place with great service. They try really hard to be "The Third Place" behind work and home, but I have never been very comfortable enough there to think of it like that.
First off, I'm not from these parts, so while in town for a business trip, I decided to go off the fate of fellow Yelpers and give Teller's a try.... good choice! Â I was dining solo, which brought me to the decision to belly up to the bar, with my 7 month pregnant belly in tact! Â Obviously, I was not able to take advantage of the plethora of beer/ale selections that Teller's have, but just looking at them was impressive in itself. Â The bar tender was my main source of service and he was swell... filling up my water and making me feel welcomed. Â I happen to be here on the trivia night, which is hosted by a friendly guy as well. Â There was a nice crowd partaking in the game and had I not been a party of one with a self induced curfew, I would have been all over the trivia.
Everything I ate was absolutely delicious.  The brussel sprout appetizer, as mentioned several times in  other reviews, was amazing and I'm sure it's plenty to share, but my fatty, I mean pregnant, self ate the whole dang bowl!  I just couldn't hold back.  My decision for the entree portion of dinner was simple.  I asked about the Melted Monk, the bartender lit up when I mentioned it, and that was it.  The sandwich's combination of chimay cheese, green apples & carmelized onions oozing off the delicious cranberry walnut bread was perfect.  The tomato basil soup acted as the perfect accompaniment.  If I could critique one thing, it was that the homemade potato chips could have been a fresher (but really it's a good thing they weren't because it forced me to actually leave something on my plate).
Again, I'm not from around here, so I don't know what the locals are used to, but I did not find this place to be overpriced at all. Â I would be glad to pay those prices here in South FL for the quality of the ingredients and the taste of dishes that I had. Â I saw complaints about pricing in other reviews, but cannot relate to this qualm... I'm sure it helps that I was not drinking, but my whole bill with appetizer ($6), sandwich ($9), and tax/tip was just over $20. Â I'm sure it would help the place out if they got their menu on their site already so that you could be the judge of how their prices are!
We've been to Teller's several times and we've never had a bad, or even average, experience. Â This place has my vote for best use of an old 7-11 ever - it's beautiful and comfortable. Â
The service can be hit or miss, but they're always friendly and that's what is most important to me. Â The fried brussels sprouts appetizer is the best brussels sprouts dish I've ever had, as well as one of the best appetizers. Â So far, their pan-fried fish (usually striped bass from Alamosa) has been my favorite entree, but the "grown up" grilled cheese is a close second.
Teller's also has one of the best beer lists around, with lots of local breweries represented. Â Other places have bigger lists, but at Teller's it's quality over quantity.
I suppose the prices are a little higher than most bars, but the food is much better than any of the other bars in the area. Â It's good enough that I'm willing to pay a little more.
Best service of any restaurant I've ever been to in Denver.
Great food, roasted chicken salad was fantastic, reuben sandwich was very tasty but needed more meat and more sauerkraut, a little skimpy on that one.
Great beer, bloody mary was strange with a pickle in it but good too.
We'll be back for more...
Meh. I have to say that this place left me less than impressed. My friend and I were meeting for dinner, and are tired of all the old usuals up at Denver West/Colorado Mills. Luckily, she had seen Teller's while driving around, so we looked at what other Yelpers were saying and decided to give it a shot.
The atmosphere is great - you'd never know that this was a remodeled convenience store, and it has a casual, laidback feel. For dinner on a Tuesday, it as a pretty busy, and the nice outdoor section was full of people enjoying the afternoon sun. Happy Hour deals go til 6:30, and they have a pretty extensive drink list. Generally, Happy Hour is 2 for 1 well drinks and discounts on all the beer.
We were seated promptly, but it took our server (Kayla, who did not introduce herself) at least 10 minutes to even get over and take our drink order. My friend ordered a Cocoa Porter, but was brought a Vanilla Porter... apparently they don't have Cocoa Porter any more, and Kayla did not know that. Which meant a revisit to the drink list to find a different beer... I only had water, and it took at least another 5 minutes for me to get that. In this time, we had already decided on dinner, but we had to wait for Kayla to reappear after the beer debacle.
The menu itself is small, which isn't anything bad. We go to restaurants with small menus all the time. Everything sounds tasty, and this is definitely not your typical bar food. Once we finally ordered (I ordered the Roasted Chicken Salad; my friend, the French Dip), it only took about 10 minutes to get our food. And in terms of quality, it was good. I enjoyed my chicken, which was nicely roasted, and the salad fixings were all tasty. I didn't need any dressing (I always order on the side), and I only wish there was a bit more mixed greens on the bottom.
Unfortunately, the terrible service and the prices are what make this a solid 3-star for me. While it will definitely fill a need if we're in the area (and don't want Mexican food at Tafolino's across the street), the bill for 2 of us, with 1 drink, was $36. Definitely not what I expect at a suburban bar, and while the food was decent, it's not enough to make this a go-to place for me, even though I work around the corner. I've had better $13 salads at chain restaurants.
I came to this place for the first time today and was immediately in love. I can't stand the crap most people call beer (I'm looking at you PBR drinkers and those who think Miller Light tastes great because of those old commercials) This place has so many local brews. They have the motto eat and drink locally and are all about supporting local businesses. More places need to support other Colorado companies here. They feature beers from Great Divide, Breckenridge, Asher, and so many other breweries. I enjoyed a Collette and a Hoss at today's visit.
Also, I got the fish and chips for dinner tonight. While the portions were small, they were quite filling. It was an average price of $11 so it's not too bad. This place has a patio, unisex bathrooms (one at a time, no one is going to walk in and see your junk unless you forget to lock the door) and a friendly staff. Also, they will be having the Geeks Who Drink pub quiz there starting on May 8th. Lakewood has finally got an establishment that is comparable to some of the bars in downtown Denver. Check this place out if only for the beer on tap.
I was hoping to like this place but a few things just fell short...
Prices...like other Yelpers everything seemed to be a few dollars higher than they should. Â
Food is OK but nothing stands out from similar joints. Â
Service was kinda shotty but always friendly. Â
If I go back I would like to try their PEI mussel apps and maybe try a special. Â
Other than that the atmosphere is fun and lively.
Great food. Seriously, the fried brussels sprouts with the bacon aioli? Are you kidding me? Amazing.
wait. wait. wait. Im way ahead of myself.
My wife and I set out for a meal at some place thats not A) the same places we go all the time and B) not some awful chain (I'm looking at you Applebees). Tellers came highly regarded from a friend so we set our sights and off we went.
Rolling up, it looks like a swanky 7-11 (really. it used to be a 7-11 and they swanked it up.) Â it has a nice canvas covered dining patio and when you walk in, you can see the heavy timber frame structure they retrofitted in. The floors are dyed concrete and the large bar is made of white marble. The place has swagger, I'll give it that.
The hostess seated us and took our drink orders. 10 minutes later our inattentive waitress sauntered up with our drinks. In mason jars. Sweet mother of hipsters! Â
Looking over the menu it was kinda shocking how few items were available and how expensive those few things were. A few burgers. A few salads. Nothing inspiring. We eventually settled on the pita and hummus appetizers (really good), I got the french dip sandwich (excellent, though the au jus was overwhelmingly rich!) and she got the "greek burger" (which she loved, though I found it over-spiced).
As we were working on our appetizer, we heard the waitress at the next table over talking about specials and heard they were doing $3 off the brussels sprouts. Now, neither of us happen to really like brussels sprouts but we TRY to like them and have an adventurous dining spirit so when our waitress flitted into view we called her over and ordered the sprouts too. They were stunning. SO F-ING NOM! They flash fry the sprouts and serve them with a wondrous bacon infused aioli for dipping. Seriously excellent. Worth the price for sure.
As we dined, we started seeing why the prices were so high. They source local and feature local flavors. Local meats, local dairy, local veg. They feature a lot of local beers too (we dont drink, but most of our friends do so we are at least tangentially aware of local booze). They have selections from Avery, Oskar Blues, Boulder Beer Company, etc. Â
Part of their menu is so berift of choice is because they are slowly building it out as they find what people like and how they like it prepped. I can totally respect that. And of the menu items they do offer, a lot of them can be mixed up to match your tastes (burgers can have beef, chicken, turkey or veggie patties for instance) and you can swap out your regular fries for sweet potato fries (with an upcharge of course).
All in all, its a great place with a few drawbacks.
Bottom line, I would LOVE to be able to eat here more often - great food, local focus - but just cant afford to do so.
