The food is great and the portions are large. If you like it hot, you will not be disappointed. If it's your first time, go during lunch when it is cheaper.
I have gone here for years and I will continue to. It may not be authentic but I'm not looking to take a trip to Thailand anytime soon. ;)
This place is legit!!
Our GPS led us on a bit of a road to nowhere trying to find the place. Â "Cherry Street" is actually more like an alley, and the restaurant is tucked into a little grouping of businesses at the end of it that share a parking lot. Â It seems like the address should actually be on New Street.
It's cute inside (dig the purple walls!) and the service is prompt. Â The fun "Thai pockets" appetizer was tasty, and my Gang Keaw Warn was delicious! Â I should say IS delicious, because I'm feasting on leftovers now. Â Even the next day and ice cold out of the fridge, these vittles are sublime! Â It's just a tad pricier than a lot of Thai joints, but portions are large, the preparation perfect! Â So often when you get tofu in a Thai dish, the chunks are fried to within an inch of their lives. Â So tough and leathery are these flavorless cubes that you have to put one hand on top of your head and the other under your chin for extra chewin' power a-la Curly! Â Not here, my friends...and they aren't stingy either. Â Veggies were colorful, plentiful, and fresh, and my Thai iced tea was the perfect mix to send me swooning. Â
Pleasant and laid-back, it's perfect for conversation or a nice little date. Â Ahh.
My wife and I have been enjoying this restaurant since it opened. Â The food is always well prepared, and they use fresh ingredients. Â They do an excellent job with seafood. The crispy rolls and spring rolls are exceptional appetizers. Â The waitstaff is friendly, attentive, and efficient. Â I have also eaten at the Petoskey location three times, and have had the same experience there, so if you are headed up north, it's a restaurant to count on. Michael Fitzpatrick, Mt Clemens.
Review Source:Simply the best Thai restaurant in metro-Detroit. Â I've been away from the D for a few years now, but whenever I come back, it's the first place I have dinner. Â Telling a friend out here about the Masman Curry one night gave me a delicious flashback.
-the ingredients are always the freshest
-they don't overcook your seafood like almost every other Thai restaurant. Â Nothing annoys me more than rubbery scallops.
-if you want hot, they know HOT.. and not in a "let's add tablespoons of red powder" way. Â The heat never masks the flavor of the dish.
-try the Pad Vong Seng. Trust me. Â I couldn't get my folks to eat Thai food for years but that dish made a believer out of them. Â The texture is amazing.
-you like fresh Thai basil? Â Their take on Drunken Noodle is aromatic and delicious.
-did I mention I actually had a taste flashback because of their Masman Curry? Â Literally. Â I wish they could airmail it to me in a thermos.
I was really craving thai food and was very happy to find this restaurant on yelp. The food was made fresh to order. I love the Tom Yum soup which had just the right amount of spice and perfectly cooked veggies. The curry I ordered did not disappoint. My coworker loved the pad see ew.
Review Source:I am an international traveler and have a good friend whose wife is from Thailand and has cooked for me. This is the best restaurant Thai food I have ever had and is on par with home cooking. My family and I have eaten here for years and have never gotten a bad meal. The food is fresh, no MSG (wife has a sensitivity) and the service is always great. A jewel of the Detroit area.
Review Source:Its okay... Just okay. The red curry isn't bad. But the chicken tasted weird, and I did not like it.
Ive had better experience at the Thai Kitchen, they are seriously one of the best Thai food places in Michigan. Id suggest going there if you are in the area. (address given below)
Thai Kitchen

My Mother and I go here for dinner when we are visiting Mt. Clemen's General. We have never been disappointed. Well I was, but that is because I split a meal with my Mom and she doesn't want spice, so I missed out on that... not their fault...maybe next time? It has been awhile since I have been here, ut I recall great service and tasty food at a great price. Evening hours only .. I think.
Review Source:Never a bad meal here! The food is ALWAYS fresh and tasty. Service is wonderful. The dinner portions are generous. Favorite dishes- gang gai, pad vong seng, and the Thai Orchid Chicken house specialty. My only gripe about this place is that they are a tad skimpy on the meat. You can add extra meat for $2 and the price is still reasonable.
Review Source:This place might be great to the locals here, but it's not authentic Thai food at all. Having been to different Thai restaurant in dallas, vegas, and cali makes this place the first bad Thai food I have eaten. We ordered the pad see- eaw. It is way too sweet. It taste like americanized food or Pei-Wei. The beef fried rice taste like americanized chinese fried rice - msg, carrot, green bean. Overall, just a disappointment since is aw it got a 4/5 star on yelp. The service is friendly and welcoming, but the food no so. I'll be really depressed if this Thai restaurant turns out to be the best they have in this city.
Review Source:I went to this restaurant several years ago when it first opened up and I have not been back since. Since then I've heard and read nothing by wonderful things about this place and I wanted to give it another shot. To be honest, my wife and I both left disappointed. The service was good, but the food was sub par. I had the Pad Thai curry, and it was just so so. The meal itself was "mushy". The food wasn't bad per se, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. I prefer Bangkok Cuisine to this place.
Review Source:As I go back into my old stomping grounds I always take time to stop by Thai Orchid. They proudly display newspaper clippings in the window as well as there "Best of Detroit" medals and medallions. If you ask me, they've earned em'. Like most of the other people that ordered from here, I also think they're the best around. Oh, you would like to have some numbered highlights? Well here we go.
1.) They have an AMAZING Pad Thai.
2.) When you want it HOT they make it HOT like they are supposed to
3.) Trust the Take-Out.
4.) One order = 2 people
The moneys right, the food is right, and the temperature is spot on. Best Thai in South-Eastern Michigan. Bar none.
I was in downtown Mt. Clemens this week on Jury Duty for Macomb Circuit Court. Circuit Court means it's the big time. No petty larceny, no traffic violations. I'm talking 'bout the big Dial "M" for Murder.
So Wednesday I had a 90 minute lunch break. Can you imagine that... 90 minutes for lunch? Who in the real world gets 90 minutes for lunch?
Anyway, I search Yelp on my iPhone and based on a review by Joe H (aka. @joefoodie) I selected the Thai Orchid. And it was a great choice indeed.
I ordered Pad Nor Mai ($7.95 with soup) which was Delicious. The bamboo sprouts, green onions and mushrooms were all fresh and crispy. The beef was tender. The brown sauce was tasty and spiced right.
My waitress asked "How hot?" I said that I don't know this place yet, better be safe and go medium. She winked at me and said "good choice".
Now there are Thai restaurants where I order food spiced hot to get the cook to wake up. There are other places where I know if I order hot, I'll just hurt myself. This place turned out to be the latter. The medium spiced Pad Nor Mai was all I could handle here without walking back to the court in a sweat.
Hmmm... thinking out loud... It was a sweat during the debate that defeated Nixon in his debate against JFK. Maybe "hot" could have been an effective strategy for not being selected for a trial, but I digress.
I really enjoyed the decor here. The place seemed both modern and elegant. Main color theme is purple with green and teal accents. Paintings of Orchids on the wall. I'm not really a guy that focuses on the environment too much, but being uncomfortable with the prospect of being selected for a Jury, this place brought some much appreciated calm... And great food too. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to.
So what happened with the Jury Duty? Â Well I was close... Too Damn close for comfort. Starting with 300 potential Jurors, I was selected to a panel of 40 for Jury selection for a Homicide trial. I saw days of my life flash by.
They dismissed over 18 other Jurors before they called my number. Â I was actually inside the jury box.... one of the 12... seat number 7. My mouth went inexplicably dry. Â Â I suddenly have visions of the OJ trial. Weeks of my life were now flashing by. Â Then came the awesome realization that someones life could be in my hands... Gulp!
Judge starts the questioning  "How are you today sir.?"  I thought "My hearts in my mouth right now" but I managed to croak "Fine".  He smiles.  He seems to know it was a damn lie. Â
More questions... Then suddenly the Defense Attorney used one of his  preemptive challenges to have me excused (thank you sir).
Perhaps it was because during voir dire questioning I was asked if I had any connection with Law Enforcement. I stated that my Father was a Police Officer and my Mother was a Police Dispatcher. His further questioning seemed to imply that I was too close to law enforcement and may tend to give too much weight to the testimony of a Cop?
Or, perhaps it was because  the defense attorney may have read one of my Yelp reviews which scared the hell out of him?
Very good Thai restaurant. Not on the main strip in Mt. Clemens, you'll have to look around for it. It's not really on Cherry Street, but at the end of it, so the GPS didn't take me right to the front door - it's SW of where it said it was. Not a big deal. Park in the metered parking lot to the NW, but I don't think you need to feed the meter after 6pm.
The restaurant is clean, nothing fancy but very nice. Service was quick and responsive. There were only a couple other people in there, at 7pm on a Thursday night, so the other reviewers must be right, not a very busy place.
Food was very good - I had the Pad Thai Curry, medium spicy. Was just right, and very good. Prices were normal for Thai (~$28+tip for appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 drinks). Â I'll definitely go again if I'm in the area.
My wife and I are big fans of Thai cuisine and Thai Orchid is the best we've found in the area. Â Both carryout and dine-in experiences have never been less than fantastic.
The restaurant is small and quaint - exactly what you'd hope from a Thai restaurant. Â Atmosphere and ambiance is great for a quiet dinner or date. Â Decor is also very pleasant. Â
The food is definitely the star here. Â My wife tried their Chicken Fried Rice and has never strayed from it as a full meal. Â Thai Orchid takes special care to make sure that the heat level is where you need it. Â The curry dishes are all fantastic, vegetables seem fresh and crisp and the staff is nothing short of wonderful. Â
There are a few minor downsides. Â First is that the restaurant is a bit hidden in downtown Mt. Clemens. Â Second...if you're hoping to wash down your spicy dish with an ice cold beer, you're out of luck - no liquor license. Â Again, both are minor inconveniences - nothing that would make me fail to visit there again.
I'm in downtown Mt. Clemens a lot. Â Thai Orchid is easily the best Thai food and possibly the best restaurant period in the area. Â Having gone there many times, I have never been disappointed with the food. Â I order a different item each time for the sake of variety and to get a clearer picture of the restaurant as a whole. Â
The restaurant is very clean, or at least it appears to be. Â The service is always prompt and cordial. Â Whenever a dish is ordered 'hot,' the waitress will question you, but I think it is in their best interest to ask so that there is a minimal of amount of food being sent back.
The beef curry pak is a wonderfully spiced dish. Â Luscious coconut milk blends perfectly with spicy red curry. Â I ordered the dish with beef and at the "hot" level of spice. Â Hot was perfect. Â There was a slight discomfort on my tongue and a little sweat on my brow. Â The vegetables are always fresh. Â Peppers, mushrooms, onions, bamboo, or whatever else might be in your dish are always vibrant and tender.
Since this place is within walking distance from the office, I tend to frequent it. Â I will continue to do so as long as the quality of the food remains high.
