They got their hours extended, so that's a major plus. Their food is much improved since my last review, too. However, their getting a bit rediculous on prices (except the pitchers of beer and specials on food during specific times). Note to Tinhorn owners: YOU'RE A DIVE BAR IN THE MIDDLE OF BURBANK!
Most of the servers here are pretty cool, too, but some of them (the newer girls) can be a bit seemingly snobby. Perhaps their just getting used to things, but they used to have outstanding/fun servers.
Still, overall THF is a good time.
I would definitely go to this place again.
Me and my friend went here (4 people total) on Tuesday evening. We had fried wings and fried pickles, boy, the pickles are sooo delicious!
The place is pretty small, not too loud, so it's a good place to hang out for sure.
We tried their own beer named Tinhorn blonde, which is pretty good! It was on the happy hour. All draft are $3 for happy hour. I need to double check, but I think the happy hour goes from 4pm - 7pm.
4 people, we had beers each then we added a pitcher plus wings and fried pickles, ended up about $13 per each.
They have one pool table, it's okay though.
The service was good.
The parking is easy! and YES, that's why I love Burbank.
One odd thing, I saw couple of kids inside the bar.. it was just weird view. They were playing pool , and that made it worse..
I went to this places yesterday after my scrimmage game. It's a cool little bar with a chill crowd. The staff was polite and there was t.v.'s showing the baseball games on. The jukebox had some good hip hop playing which surprised me. There was plenty of street parking as like most of L.A. the prices were about average and the food was good. I got a nice sized basket of onion rings to eat when I went there yesterday. I had a blast here with my friends, I will come back next time I'm in Burbank.
Review Source:Walked in, sat down, and was completely ignored. Â I waited and observed others being waited on. I even tried to stop a waiter to try to place an order and he kept walking. Â I walked out after about 15 minutes and went to another place where my business was welcomed. Â This bar & grill offers the same things many other bar & grills do. Â So, I will go get the same thing where I am treated well. Â You would think, that in this economy, a small business would make a practice of greeting patrons and at the very least, make them feel welcome. Â Since that is not the case, I have taken my business elsewhere... Â And I have taken my friends and co-workers with me.
Review Source:The first time I came here it was with my boyfriend for the cowboy bar ambiance, although because they have a jukebox it's never consistently playing country music. But we had a descent time so I came back with a group of friends.
On this second visit we managed to get in before the end of happy hour (which runs until 6pm). But we were a bit disappointed when we were told that the $3 domestic beers are basically the bottom tier: Bud, Miller Lite, etc. Even though they have Blue Moon and Sam Adams both of which are made in the USA and therefore are domestic beers. We ended up going with the Tinhorn Blonde, which as a friend put it is, "Some kind of mix of your standard lite beer and a hefeweizen." We also had the fried pickles which were delicious and a sizable portion for $5.
Now for the major downside: children in the bar. The main reason I don't frequent restaurant bars is because inevitably there are children screaming, or otherwise running a muck. That, and I don't want to have to be conscious of the language I'm using while I'm drinking. Two children were running the pool table and another one kept kicking the back of the booth we were seated in. It was definitely a downer. I suppose if you have children and want to get drunk and then drive them home this would be a good spot. In all likelihood the next time I go here I'll make sure it's later than a reasonable bedtime for the children of America (9pm?).
At night this place lights up the street with their neon signs and eclectic crowd spilling onto the sidewalk. Not too often you see a western bar without a mechanical bull in LA, but this place is charming, laid back, cheap and serves up some good eats.
It was pretty crowded on a Friday night, but we were able to grab two stools at the bar and ordered a couple beers and burgers. Â I ordered the chili cheese burger which came with a thick (and I mean thick) burger patty on a toasted bun with just the right amount of chili so you could still pick up the burger to eat it without making a mess. The burger was good, but only wish the meat had more flavor as it was fairly bland. The chili was tangy and had mild spice for some kick.
Overall, good service and decent food at a cheap price.
The burgers were really good and gourmet. We came here on a night (Wed) where u can chose ANY burg and fries on the menu for only 6.50! The staff is super friendly and happy to be working unlike many people these days. The atmosphere was really cool--can see it being pretty awesome on game days. Only complaint is that The fries and fried pickles were too greasy.
Review Source:First off this place is a bar that caters to Chicago Bears fans during the season, so if your a Bears fan, and want to drink and cry while the bears lose another game to Green Bay, this place is for you. First off this place is a dive bar, plain and simple. Good pricing on the food, and drinks, but it still has the feel that the food  is greasy. I went on pork chop night and it was decent, but the mash potatoes were cold, and the side veggies were ok. The drinks are poured stiff and good. Overall I would go there to drink, not eat.
Review Source:People are raving about the burger here, and people are right. It is a very very tasty burger and the bread bun is superb! This is a great place because the $$$ is decent ! The Happy Hour has excellent deals but even when it's not so Happy Hour, food is generous! We had the burger and the chicken quesadilla. Definitely exceeded my expectations for a small bar/burger joint in little ol' Burbank. I know that they've opened a bigger one recently in Hollywood, but I'm totally OK with nestling up in this one. It does get crowded fast and because of that, the service isn't so great, but... What do you expect from a reasonably crowded bar?
Also, do come here for people watching. I'm not all creepy, I swear but the clientele is uber-eclectic.
The Wild Wild West, The Wild Wild West.. I used to live downtown 129th street!!!...
Song seemed synonymous with this old-style saloon of the old west with double swing doors, antique floors, poker style table and chair decor with a bar that looks like a scene out of Deadwood!
Food was surprisingly good but the appetizer Fried Pickles was shockingly delicious!! Â The Western Bacon Cheese burger is hands down the signature dish on the menu. Â Only wish would be they offered more selection of beers on tap.
Let me start of by saying that I've never eaten here (last time we went it was a B restaurant, why take the chance?) but it's a cool place to drink a couple beers with friends. If you're from the sun scorched plains of AZ like me then you'll feel right at home here. The service has always been friendly and the regulars don't seem overly rowdy. The outdoor patio is a plus as well and perfect for a relaxed evening.
Review Source:Owney's BottomLine: Let's play some pool, drink some beer watch the Lakers and eat some fried food. Fun spot!
I came here to find the laker game and was very pleasantly surprised by this Chicago-themed bar. Lots of TVs, a pool table my gf whipped me around at and some Fried pickles.
Servers were great and so was the beer. If I lived around this place I would most certainly be a regular.
Went in after a game with my Fella and a friend for some beer and a bite. We all had eaten a few hours earlier and were merely peckish and not starving. We ordered a few apps and a pitcher of beer. We sat talking and drinking. I was noticing the decor from the swinging saloon style doors to the wood paneled booths. It has a very apparent theme, old west, cowboys.
We drank the house beer, a blonde I believe. It was decent, a likeable pale easy to drink beer. We went through two pitchers, and that's three of us.
Not much else to say, the apps were just okay, nothing much to write home about. I have on a previous occasion had the bacon burger, which was awesome as i remember it. The bacon was crispy, the amount of which was just right in conjunction with the patty size. The fries were crisp on the outside but filled with fluffy potato, the best kind of fry there is.
I recommend the burger and the blonde, a solid choice for a happy lunch or dinner.
I managed to get thrown out of this bar twice in one night. How did that happen? Well, the answer is the swinging double doors that are the hallmark of this tavern straight out of a Slavadore Leone film.
I may have been rather drunk with my friends, and by that, I mean that we certainly had a few beers from their decent beer selection, some superbly greasy fried pickles, and a shot of whiskey each. At that point, we took the wild-west theme to heart...and by that, I mean that we put some ragtime on the jukebox, pretended that were villains from our favorite spaghetti westerns, and took turns throwing each other out of those beautiful double doors. It may have been the antlers on the wall, it may have been the collection of license plates haphazardly scattered about the bar, or it may simply have been because we were drunk, but something about this old-timey bar got to us, and for a brief and shining moment, we were gunslingers in the wild west.
The fun ended when the bartender decided that we were being goddamned nuisances, and threw us out by cutting us off. Walking sadly through the double doors, we took our leave of the Tinhorn Flats Saloon, vowing that we would return some other night to avenge the indignity forced upon us.
Without a doubt, it was one of the best nights of my life.
Swinging doors. MGD. Fried pickles. Meat heads watching drunk midriffian girls dancing at the juke. $6 brunches. "If you're looking at this, you're an asshole," scratched on the wall at the urinal. Prompt table service. Fun, gruff, beleaguered looks when the one guy who orders a MGD orders the MGD (Me). If I were ever thrown out of a bar, it's this one with their swinging doors -- but I'd much rather be thrown *into* this bar.
Review Source:Calling all cowboys...
2 big, juicy burgers, cole slaw, fries, and draft beer all for $18.98!
Another winner is the Bacon Bleu Burger. Cooked to perfection once again. Nice thick cuts of non-greasy slices of bacon. Creamy bleu cheese. For a bar, the food is consistent. Drafts are $3 for happy hour.
Upgrade your side for $2 to try one of their specialty fried pickles or jalapenos, but I'm still sticking with the cole slaw. That never happens! Even over the fries. Cole slaw wins.
There's a pool table. A juke box. And a back covered patio that I keep forgetting to check out. Sit inside and you've got all the games on.
Parking: Street and residential down the side.
I just left feeling like I left Chicago! Â Warning: I'm biased. Â Coming from Chicago, this is what my review is based on. Â If you don't care too much for football Sundays or feeling the good midwestern hospitality, then this place is just a crowded bar for you. Â You gotta be a good sport coming in on game day :) Â Food isn't bad, drinks are reasonably priced....hard to watch football anywhere else!
Servers are always so nice, and you find out who the regulars are after a few games and they're great to be around too!
Food wise, I'm a fan of the onion rings, fried pickles, and bleu cheese burger. Â It's a bar - you get bar food. Â What else were you expecting?? :)
I imagine that if you talked to any foreigner and asked them what they thought of Americans, they would say that we're all a bunch of horse riding riding good ol' cowboys who like to toss one back at the saloon while deal a cheatin' hand at poker.
This place would probably fit the description of what they're getting at pretty damn well. Though I guess it's more appropriate if you were looking for an 1880's description of Americans - or something along the lines of pulled from your 1950's western broadcast program.
From the moment you walk through the swinging saloon doors, you know you're in cattle country. It's all-in-all, a pretty great cheap watering hole. This is the sort of establishment you'd have to drive a good hour or two into the desert to get the same look and feel of. Why bother with all that work when you can just get it in Burbank?
While I can't tell for certain, I'm guessing this place services all the cowboys who make their bones around Griffith Park.. Oh those equestrian fools. It all makes me wish I had a ten gallon hat to walk in here with. But even as a city slicker, they welcome my cold cash with no hassles. No talk. It's just a place to kick up your boots and rest while soaking up the rather strange and eclectic group of patrons occupying the bar stool real estate.
Like that one dude who looked like Meatloaf and was rocking a mullet. That was strange. But then again, who am I to judge the next man for limping into a saloon like this and crawling inside a whiskey bottle only to never look back.
They have burger specials and other grub that will make you feel like the chuck wagon is just outside. I mean, they have a lot of burger specials. Best of all, they're pretty solid. Order a side of fried pickles to go with it and you got yourself a little partner up in here.
Service is solid, but again, the walk in alone, crossing those swinging bar doors alone make this a worthy watering hole. It's got good food, good service and some fine drinks. Their house beer is also decent and at around $3 bucks, you won't find me complaining.
I typically come here for lunch (because I am often in the area for work) and where it seems like everything is on special for lunch. Â Maybe?
Anyway, they make a GOOD burger, a big burger and reasonably priced as well. Â I mentioned in a tip that their prices had gone up, but still a deal -- I think food + side comes in at $7 before tax and tip.
Burgers here probably clock in at half a pound and if you ask for medium rare, that's how it comes out. Â The place is far more interesting inside (and the fries are better) than say a place like, Fuddruckers. Â
It's also a bar, I've had a wet lunch here so that's always fun
When you drive past the flashy entrance of Tinhorn Flats, you may wonder what a regular at a place like that might look like. Â And I am happy to tell you that I am not the beer-gutted-ten-gallon-hat-leather-boot-wearing, bearded man you are thinking of...okay, maybe the leather boot thing is true...
Tinhorn is detached from the standardized LA bar scene. Â This is a true sports bar...like the ones you find in the Midwest, where locals are more than proud of their sports teams. Â Show up here on a Sunday morning during Bears season and you'll be bombarded by navy and orange...that is, if you even get in. Â People line up an hour or two before the game to ensure a spot in this joint. Â Being a Chicago native, I am relieved to have a haven to enjoy real football with real football fans.
Call me crazy, but my "group" and I don't just reserve Tinhorn for Sundays. Â Taco Tuesday is a must! Â They serve $1 tacos on Tuesday nights. Â What a deal?? Â The guys even order a side of bacon ($2 for four slices) to jam into their hard shells. Â I would also recommend the fabulous fried jalapenos, fried pickles, and shit, their fries are tasty as hell. Â Tuesday nights are great. Â Especially when it's a cool night and we grab a table on the back patio. Â Service can be super slow...even when the place isn't busy, but the servers are sweethearts and they're great to look at! Â It's super cute, nice and quiet, and incredibly enjoyable. Â See you Tuesday and BEAR DOWN!!
You know I don't think I would have ever come here on my own. But after not being able to get a table at a nearby place for lunch we ended up at Tinhorn Flats.
I was a little skeptical about the place, I mean after all you walk in thru saloon doors and western theme kind of hits you over the head.
We found a table outside and much to my surprise the outside seemed like a normal patio. Casual tables, plants and some shade along with a TV.
The food was better that I thought it would be, everyone enjoyed their food and the sides which are usually an after thought at most places were excellent here. You have to try to fried pickles if you come here.
Maybe this is what happens when you walk into a place with no expectations. My first visit wasn't my only visit and I do drop in from time to time for lunch.
If you live in Burbank and have never been to Tinhorn Flats, you've at least driven by it. Â Right there on Magnolia Blvd, this place is on the outside themed like a Western bar (with swinging front doors), but on the inside, is like any old bar, with your TV screens, pool table, tables, and booths.
Unlike other bars, however, is their outstanding food. Â Okay, okay, we're not talking 5-star here, but they have daily specials that make me worry if they're actually making any money off of it. Â Maybe the loss leader is to get you to pay for the beers you're going to drink with your burger??? Â I don't know. Â For example, burgers (normally $9-12) are $5.95 all day Wednesdays. Â And they're big, juicy burgers. Â With fries. Â Oh yeahhhh.
Needless to say, this place holds no contest to other places, when you're craving a burger and a beer after work on Wednesday. Â This place does fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, though, so get there early when you're there for drinks. Â During the week, however I've never run into a problem getting a booth.
YeeHaww!!
I'm still a little drunk from the happy hour at Tinhorn Flats.
What an amazing place! It was my first time on a Wednesday night, along with one of my closest girl friends. We came in around 5pm, and stayed until they shut the patio down at 9 (for consideration of their neighbors, much respect). We had a few beers, and eventually ordered two western bacon cheeseburgers from their 6 dollar Wednesday night special. The Burger was amazing, the steak fries were crunchy, and delicious, and my friends fried pickles were the best she said she's ever had (compared to Lucys 51, and BWW). I could not believe how friendly, and amazing the 3 lady bartenders were. They were extremely sweet, and always checking in to make sure that my friend, and I had everything we needed.
We made a plan to make this place our regular Wednesday night hang.
Please check this place out, it deserves it.
The place is a little dingy, but it just adds to that wild west "saloon" feel complete with the swing doors as you head in.. Â
Shock top and a sultry in-house blonde (The beer, not the bartender) on tap.. Â Although the bartenders were nice as well..
Don't forget the fried pickles, they are quite delectable.. Â My friend who had the hamburger had praises for that too..
Great place to chill.. Â esp after having some bbq from across the street..
1st visit with coworkers for happy hour lunch. This review is 5 stars for affordability of $6 (giant) burgers. Burger + pitcher of beer = $12. That suits this cheapass just fine. Conveniently located near Burbank's studios.
Extra points (from me, probably loses points from others) for the fact that some of my coworkers coworkers could smoke before/after food. I don't smoke but I cherish places that still allow it. Adds to the old-timey saloon/dive feel, which this place pulls off perfectly (further adding to my 5-star rating).
Can't wait for the next work lunch!
Wed Burg special....any burger, $5.95....why not? burgers are great, thank God they have steak fries (those are amazing). beer prices are very reasonable.
now, the service: as Jen H said, Catherine is awesome, but so is most the rest of the staff, you will have about 4 diff ppl check on you throughout the meal, talk about team effort. not to be a cheerleader for tinhorn, but that's the way a place should be run.
not sure how 2burgers and 2beers gets out the door for $30 (incl tax/tip) but it does at tinhorn. only reduction is for playing the jukebox waaaay too loud, but i guess that's part of the dive atmosphere. for as good as the food and service are, i'll put up with it.
The TRUE local drive bar, this place is a gem.
I love to come here and brush up on my pool skills and actually have a affordable drink once in a while. the severs there are always friendly, knowable, and genuine and to spite how pretty they are, NEVER stuck up or snobby. I can never get out of this place with out getting some food as well, weather it be a basket of fries, a hot fudge Sunday, beer batter onion rings or YES A FRIED PICKLE!!!
I am a fan! Why? Fried pickles!!!
I've read and read all the previous reviews and all I see is this odd recommendation for Fried Pickles. I'll have a pickle here and there, but I would never crave it. After reading many recommendations, I gave the Fried Pickles a shot and Oh My God!!! It exploded it my mouth and I couldn't stop munching on em'. They were sliced thinly, dipped into an amazing batter, and deep fried. Add on the ranch for dipping sauce equals amazing! It's fully flavored, so get it even if you're on the fence for it. The portion is perfect to share with four people.
I also ordered the Fried Jalapeno, which used the same batter. It was too spicy for me, but for my friends that love spicy food, they were in love! In the end, we ordered about four baskets of Fried Pickles and Jalapeno, yikes!
Drinks are cheaper than the typical bars in Hollywood or Downtown LA. There's not much to do here, except play pool, jukebox, and OH YEAH, chats with whoever your with!
Service was a 5 Star! Our server, Katherine, always had a smile and was very attentive to our big party. Her attitude was great! The place is really a dive bar, but not bad. They have a full menu, cool lunch/brunch special, and plenty of beers on tap.
Tip: Patio area closes at 9pm, entire restaurant closes at midnight (they are very strict on their closing time). Big TV inside and average TV outside if you want to catch a game is also available here.
This has become our Wednesday lunchtime spot. Â The service is friendly but slow and not good. Â The beer is what keeps us coming back. Â If you like light beers the Tinhorn Blonde hits the spot. Â The food is hit or miss - burgers are their specialty but depending on which one you get they can be a bit bland. Â The fried jalapeno chips are amazing! Â If you like sports this is the place to be - they often will change the channel to the soccer game my coworkers want to watch without any fuss.
Oh, and there is no temperature control here. Â If it's cold outside you're going to be freezing inside without a parka.
Every Yelper needs a good theme song--some definitive number that conveys their presence with spirited aplomb. When I step, I strut to the sounds of "Someday Baby" by Robert Lee Burnside, a reworked piece of funky soul that should accompany the following review at the highest possible volume...
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DgALi97_vqkU&s=e0468d5b9a4a2a10995df9749279cfd77bc2e73140e8c4f19612f9e02abbe85b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>
Never mind tiger's blood; I got panther plasma coursing through these veins, and it carries with it all the mojo of a Charlie Sheen without any of the douche baggage. So in essence, I'm his essence, but don't call me Carlos Estevez. Â Deez is the name... as in Nuts... as in swingin'... like the creaky saloon doors that enhance my arrival at Tinhorn Flats. Â
"Did you catch my entrance there?" I ask the female bartender as I belly up to the bar.
"What?!"
"The way I split the doors there. Â Did you see that?"
"I can't hear you over your theme music!"
"Never mind!"
I point to a couple of items on the menu and she pours me an ice cold Tinhorn Blonde and brings me a steaming plate of the pork chop special. Â Ahhhh, testify, my brothers... for in the beginning, when the Goodie God said, "Let there be good eats, good suds, and good times", the 'Horn was born; and some seventy years later, this bar and grille is still kicking ass and taking names with a greasy swagger that matches my own. Â
So if you bob your head to the same beats of unpretentious cool, she will suit you. Â If you fancy a savory pork chop with your ale, she will accommodate you. Â But if you're looking for a place to pick up a hottie or two, eh... not so much. Â It was teeming with patrons last night, but the only two women that recognized my juice happened to be the only two women in there... and only one of them was cute... in an ugly kind of way.
What a waste of some good swagger.
My boyfriend and I came here and though it isn't exactly my scene, we both enjoyed the experience.
I ordered the mushroom swiss and he got the western bacon cheeseburger. He said his was good but we both actually liked mine better.
Loved the fried pickles! They were a nice change from regular fries, though we enjoyed both. Fried pickles are definitely a must try.
They have a big TV inside and one outside as well if you're the type who wants to watch the game over a burger and a couple beers.
Try this place! It's worth a shot.
