I have been to TJ's about a half dozen times in the past 3 months. Â I like it. Â It's sorta low-end and it definitely attracts the blue collar crowd. Â Not that there's anything wrong with that; those are my roots, my peoples. Â I'd gladly take a bar full of rambunctious construction workers over a socially-awkward, smart-phone-addicted hipster crowd any day of the week. Â They have four beers on tap: Â Blue Moon, Coors, Coors Light, and BBC (an IPA maybe, can't be sure), and they're wicked cheap. Â Something like $2. Â Their rail drinks are unevenly made -- sometimes they have the right amount of booze, other times I think they're trying to kill you. Â But let's face it... the crowd here isn't drinking for the taste and the complaints are few.
You know how we all have relatives who can cook really well, but it's not quite restaurant quality? Â That's TJ's. Â The food is good. Â If you think you're going to be fed slop, you'd be wrong. Â I've HAD slop. Â This is not slop. Â Don't even think about it. Â But I will say, the quality to price ratio is definitely in your favor. Â There are other places around that charge more for meals of less quality. Â It's home cookin'.
So far I've had the lasagna (twice, once with sausage, A+), a cheeseburger (A), the sweet honey ribs (C, not much meat, but good tasting), the clam chowder (D, salty as hell, you'll be downing those $2 drafts), their steak tips (solid B, small tips, good sauce) and the lobster roll (C, huge, tons of meat, but spoiled by too much dill -- or something). Â Their mashed potatoes are also really good. Â I've probably had other stuff, but I can't remember, which should also tell you something.
I've been here when the parking was full of motorcycles. Â One time with my father-in-law, who got a little nervous, "A biker bar, Ken?" Â To which I replied, "No, Joe. Â These are just people with bikes. Â Bikers are different." Â So don't be alarmed if you see 100 Harleys in the lot. Â Go in, pay $10 for a couple beers and a burger.
Oh, CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM there.
Hoochie mama that's a strong Bloody Mary! Just went to TJs for Sunday Brunch-$6.96 for adults, $3 for kids. With a gift certificate for two adult brunches, two kids and drinks our bill was a whopping $12. Food in the buffet was fine- scrambled eggs, sausage patties, turkey and stuffing with the trimmings, some kind of stir fried chicken dish, pancakes and pastries and fruit. I think they were making omelets in the kitchen but I didn't see a non-brunch menu. Â
The $5 bloody Mary was remarkable. It was pink from the large pull of vodka I there. Tasty but a little too strong for me. Husband said the coffee was awful, but bad coffee at a family restaurant is typical. We might come back for Tuesday taco night. Friendly staff, well-attended buffet, and good service.
Great prices on food and drinks. Cheapest around which is good for staying on budget! Always fun when the weather gets nice because of the elevated outdoor deck with outside bar. It can get really crowded but still remains low key, which I like. The dinning area is better if you want something more quiet. The bar area can get pretty rowdy and loud. The food is not amazing but its pretty good and a great value for what it is. Sometimes (because the restaurant also does catering) you find a real gem on the "specials" menu. When in doubt, order the burgers but don't be afraid to try something new!
Review Source:I like TJ's. Â I can get a burger cooked rare here, and the burgers are so big you could split them with someone. Â The fries are the thick cut ones, and a big plate of them will run you about $2. Â The cheeseburger and fries is about $6. Â Chicken parm is good, and it runs about $9. Â The mixed drinks are cheap and fairly strong. Â They have lotto/Keno, a big outdoor seating area/bar for the warmer months. Â Gets crowded on game afternoon/nights. Cash only, I believe, so be prepared. Â Fast, friendly service. Â All in all, a great local bar with good, cheap eats.
Review Source:TJ's is an interesting experience. The "Local Flavor" is not for everyone  but don't let that scare you away.  This place has some real gems on the Menu. My personal fave is the grilled salmon (if you don't see it on the menu ask anyway). The prices are fairer than fair. My family of 5 has eaten there for under $40 (and yeah, I got the grilled salmon).
Portions are great, prices are super-low, the waitstaff is good and eating on the deck is wonderful.
We've had a couple of off nights food wise lately but everyplace has it's bumps. I'd hardly shy away from the place.
TJ's defines the wonderfully ambiguous classification "LOCAL FLAVOR" for this area the way no where else can. Â It fills every need for the Hopkinton/Ashland area: from live music venue to beer joint to greasy spoon food stop to cool biker hangout....yes folks, TJ's does it all! Â And because of this, the place is always hoppin'.
I've had a few occasions to stop by TJ's and decided it deserved to be on Yelp - I work in the area, plus have friends and family there too. Â It's nothing fancy - between people yelling obscenities loudly in the parking lot in front of small children to the picnic-table seating - but there's certainly some magic going on here. Â The live bands aren't half bad most of the time. Â There's outdoor seating. Â The crowd sure is interesting and random. Â And its wonderfully cheap. Â
Certainly NO reason to travel from afar to stop by here - but if you're in the area - or just need a cool place to park your motorcycle for a bit, you should check it out.
