This is horrible. Â First time I've dined in...and officially the last time. Â It took 20 minutes just for a pre seating beer! Â Maybe I'll try delivery again...maybe. Â This was such a disappointment...when I asked how long until we (party of 4) had to wait for a table...we got the BS 5 minute speech. Â I would have waited, if only you would have been honest.
Review Source:Had lunch with two teenage boys, they had the all you can eat deal which .is very good if you can eat a lot. I had the shrimp teriyaki bento box for $7.00 which is a great deal ( paid cash) the rolls that the boys got were really pretty, So if you want to eat a lot of inexpensive sushi come, if your want premium sushi/ sashimi don't come here. Overall a good neighborhood place.
Review Source:I was in and the place looks really nice and modern.
$17.99 for all you can eat for a weekend dinner is a pretty good price. Â The variety of dishes on the menu is pretty good and it's an additional $3.99 for sashimi. Â
I didn't get a chance to try many of the kitchen dishes but rather chose to try out the different rolls they had. Â Out of the five or six that I've tried I think the Six Flags roll had the best flavor. Â
Altogether it's a pretty good deal if you're ever in town for sushi.
Dinner, AYCE, $17.99 plus tax, included soups, appetizers, salads and regular and some special sushi rolls.
-The kani crab salad was yummy because the crunch set it apart from other crab salads.
-the Szechuan dumplings filled with pork and shrimp had a peanut sauce with sesame seeds. Divine and not too spicy.
-hand roll with eel and eel sauce and avocado...very good
-the Tuna amazing had fresh tuna on top and tuna tempura with spicy tuna inside drizzled with mango sauce..deelish!
-shrimp tempura and spicy lobster covered with silky sliced avocado. Amazing!!!!
I will definitely return and bring my peeps. Service was good and staff was friendly. The owner came to the tables and asked us how everything was. I'll be back; a new fave.
If your in the mood for really good Sushi, this is not the place. I tried the sushi....rice was mushy and fish was not that fresh.
But the teriyaki dishes are ok.....yup, nothing special but it will hit the spot if your hungry.
The decor inside is very nice. And the servers were friendly. But it was about as nice as going to Fridays, lol.
Tough one to rate. Went there for lunch and place gave me the dirty unclean feel. The feel doubled when I saw a worker sound asleep snoring on a empty table. Their lunch deal is not that amazing. $6.99 for 2 rolls salad and miso soup. Mikado and sushi kushi is only about a dollar more. If your looking to save a dollar on lunch you shouldn't be eating sushi, can I suggest a 79 cent belly bomber at White Castle. It got 3 stars because the salad had a great ginger dressing, the miso soup was great and the spicy tuna/salmon were both great. This place has the potential to be great. Gotta clean up the dirty Asians making the place feel scuzzy. I'll be back to try their signature rolls.
Review Source:My first time at an actual sushi bar and the experience was a good one. I tried this place on the recommendation of some friends who frequent this place often and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all. There was plenty of seating and the place was pretty crowded, and most importantly my girlfriend and I were able to have a nice conversation without having the table next to us involved in it, one thing I can't stand is going to a restaurant that tries to pack the place out without regard to the comfort of it's patrons.
I'm still somewhat of a sushi neophyte but from what I could tell you'd be able to get anything you'd desire at a sushi bar and my choice on this visit was the Angry Dragon which consisted of crab tempura, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna with sweet plum sauce and I washed it all down with my favorite beer in the world Sapporo!
The meal was not overly filling yet VERY satisfying and easy on the pocket. They take all major credit cards and cash. They also have take out for those on the go. The service was courteous and prompt. I'll most definitely be returning as I left as a satisfied customer for sure.
average sushi and food, you absolutely can't go wrong with the prices and specials they offer, and they make super strong drinks. The only place they lose points is the super rude & inattentive staff. I've waited 15 minutes to place a drink order with only 4 other parties seated. I've complained numerous times about not being greeted, and having to ask for a fork, salt and pepper, and a glass of water over and over again while my waitress rolls her eyes or just keeps walking past the table. The lunch specials and convenient location (near my grocery store hair and nail salon and gym!! ) keep me going back though
Review Source:Ordered in from Tobiko yesterday while visiting my family in VS. delivery was speedy and the lunch special can't be beat-- a bento box with chicken teriyaki, California roll, shumai, white rice, miso soup and salad for $6.99. That is one of the best deals I've ever heard of. Everything tasted super fresh and delicious. Will definitely suggest this for lunch next time I visit LI
Review Source:I came here for one thing and one thing only and that is the lunch special. It's such a good deal that it's almost impossible to pass up. Everything on the lunch menu is only $6.95 and the sushi is half off!
The food was very good for that price and I was completely satisfied with what I got. I ordered the chicken teriyaki box and it came with a ton of food. First you get miso soup and a salad, then you get your box that comes with white rice, chicken teriyaki, California rolls, and shumai. Such a good value! You also can get free hot green tea if you ask for it, although I'm kind of pissed that they didn't offer this to me as I didn't know this when I ate there. My girlfriend got the Ninja sushi rolls and they were scrumptious (tempura shrimp covered with spicy tuna topped with eel and eel sauce). I'm not normally a fan of sushi but I really liked it!
The inside was nice enough, there was nothing offensive about it. It was pretty cold in there though and this old couple who sat next to us kept complaining about that fact but it wasn't cold enough to deduct any stars over.
The only thing that pisses me off about my experience was the fact that the waitress brought us the bill and we needed change because their lunch special is CASH ONLY and she never returned with change and she simply vanished. Whatever, she only got 2 extra dollars but it's the principle of the matter. That's pretty skeezy. She clearly heard us ask for change.
I recommend this place to anyone who is interested in a great deal for a lunch special, and do not recommend it for anything other than that.
Normally I wouldn't go to a place with discounted sushi (something about that just freaks me out a little bit) but I heard good things about Tobiko, so I decided to give it a try. Delicious. I've come here with friends a number of times and tried mostly their signature rolls -- spicy girl, tuna amazing, red dragon, and the out of control rolls are all delicious. I would recommend getting a few signatures to split with a group because they're all half off so you'll get a lot for your money. The interior is also very cool, there's a ton of seats so I never had to wait for a table even when it was moderately busy. Would definitely go again!
Review Source:I've been here several times since its opening, and each time received nothing short of excellent service, and excellent food. Â
Aesthetically, Tobiko has a wonderful atmosphere and decor, with very comfortable seating.
Staff have been extremely friendly and helpful, and above all, patient. Â The menu is extensive, and I almost feel bad taking so long to order because of the overwhelming selection. Â I have heard others in the restaurant ask questions about nearly every menu item, and the staff has remained helpful in these situations. Â (I go for the Angry Dragon roll every time now. Â I have tried many of the specialty rolls and this is one of my favorites)
The quality of food has been top notch at every visit. Â I have been happy with everything I have ordered, and have never had to send anything back.
The price is great at its current 50% off grand opening prices. I feel normal menu prices would be a bit too expensive for me personally, however I would still pay those prices on occasion. Â $6.99 lunch is also a great deal.
I am glad to see a quality sushi restaurant in Valley Stream, as other sushi joints in the area are sub-par at best. Â I typically travel to Rockville Centre or Long Beach for sushi, but now I have a place about a mile away that rivals the quality of other popular Long Island sushi, and absolutely crushes the price. Â
I would recommend this place to anybody who likes sushi. Â This isn't a place for you if your idea of sushi is a california roll.
I love that this place has opened up in Vally Stream. They have fun and creative sushi dishes along with a nice array of Asian dishes on their menu. I have eaten there 3 times so far, each time trying something new. I was not a big sushi fan before but this place has many fun creations. The ambiance is great and the staff is very nice and professional. Take out and delivery have also been positive experiences. This place is also very inexpensive as they are currently in their grand opening phase and offering 30-50% off dishes. Definitely recommend, especially to the local folk!
Review Source:Tobiko is a new Asian Fusion restaurant. I think Tobiko is owned by the same owners of Masago in Oceanside. The athmosphere is pretty nice. The waiters are usually nice but they can't understand you sometimes. This place is sometimes stingy and charges you for small things like spicy mayo, changing miso soup to hot and sour, changing white rice to brown e.t.c. The food is usually consistent; very tasty and the sushi is usually fresh. The lunch specials can't be beat. They are cheap and cost about $6.99; the lunch specials range from a two roll maki lunch to a bowl of Shrimp Udon. Lunch specials come with miso soup and salad. Â Remember to bring cash if you're taking advantage of the lunch special, because the lunch specials are cash only. You can pay with credit for anything else.
Review Source:Walked in, loved the look! The deep, dark red light that gave off a lounge-y feel at 4pm in the afternoon had me drawn in for more.
Then the next greatest thing to happen: EVERYTHING on the menu is 50% for the grand opening. So the normal $12 rolls are now $6- effin sweet (just to give an example, an for the record I could eat a good three rolls)!!
I originally came here just looking for miso soup and I thought why not try this new spot. Â Once I found out everything was 50% off i decided to make a meal of it.
The first turn off was the extremely  ghetto Asian chic at the counter who was being entirely too rude to an inquisitive customer (who walked out shortly). The other turn offs happened when I got home.
I waited for a few minutes in the restaurant /lounge and then walked out with two rolls of sushi (one which had lobster), and two Miso soups. I couldn't wait to get home and devour the food.
2nd EFF up: well my miso soup that I originally went in for, hence ordering two (my throat was sore) was only half full. I was actually able to combine the two soups into one container. I was pissed, and almost called the restaurant- they're new, they NEED and deserve feedback. I specifically asked the girl what their largest size soup was, and she said they only carried the pint size so I should order more than one. The 3rd boo boo, the grand slam, the ultimate turn off was when I found a hair in my soup- an this lead me to not eat any more of my food. At this point I was so furious I called the place and asked to speak to the manager. I explained to him everything that happened. I also told him I only ate 1 piece of sushi from each roll (2 pieces in total) hoping he would tell me I could return my 95% still- full meal and get my money back (it all wound up in the garbage). That wasn't the case, the man told me next time I come in- to see him, after I already told him I would not return.
This place's existence will soon be gone if they keep up these horrible conditions of service. The sushi also didn't taste good, and this is not related to any of the other bad experiences I had here. It just so happens that sucks too!
The first time I went (best priced specials) was very good and the time after not as much. Â The first time I ordered an avocado brown rice roll and some thai curry lunch thing. Â The roll was plump with a good amount of avocado and the brown rice was very interesting and dark. Â I enjoyed it. Â The curry dish was good but had a fishy aftertaste. Â I know a lot of Asian cooking uses fish sauces and though I'm not opposed to that, I wasn't really feeling it in that dish. Â But it was generally enjoyable. Â The second time I went I just got a couple of brown rice rolls including an avocado roll but they gave me an avocado cucumber roll. Â Kind of eh because of the cucumber and the avocado wasn't ripe enough but I was already home when I ate it and I wasn't going to go back for that. Â
Overall it's a cool looking place and the food is good, but not great. Â Once prices go back to regular, I don't know if I'll go back.
:-( New Hunan Taste, where did you go?
Had such high hopes for this place...I really did. I was more than a little excited when I found out that a new Japanese restaurant opened up close to home and I no longer had to venture out too far for fresh sushi. AND they deliver, so I was hyped. Unfortunately my judgement was about as good as a street walker getting in the car with a john that turned out to be a serial killer...**insert blank stare** Â Ok, so since they're currently having a half off everything deal for their grand opening, I took full advantage and ordered several rolls and apps to sample. I got the Xmas roll, shrimp tempura roll, the painted lady roll, shumai and a miso soup. The shrimp tempura was soggy, and the lobster in the xmas roll did not taste fresh unfortunately. Also, the soy bean paper it was wrapped in was soggy as well. My miso soup was just ok, AND all of my rolls were loosely wrapped, so when it came time to pick them up with my chopsticks, they totally fell apart, which is more than a little frustrating when eating rolls. All and all, I'm assuming that this place is going through growing pains since they just opened. Will I be back? Maybe in a few months when hopefully they've found their groove. In the meantime, I'll venture down a few more blocks to Kaseiki where they're consistant and the sushi's always fresh.
Review Source:Nice addition for valley stream! Â I had a lunch special with soup AND salad with 2 basic rolls--spicy salmon and eel avocado which came with plenty of ginger! $6.99
I asked to substitute my regular salad with a seaweed salad and the waitress said NO then I asked why, she said "let me check" and came back saying it would be $4.50 additional! So I skipped the seaweed salad. Â Just average if you ask me.
I looked though the menu, I'd say it sounded pricey and I'd send you to Edo sushi for special rolls. However their menu was extensive with Japanese chinese and Thai dishes. Very clean (for now) and a great large space. I don't think I'll go back but we'll see!
I came here with my friend tonight, and we both fell in love with this place. I couldn't get over the edgey restaurant decor. They have a drink bar, sushi bar, and then the actual restaurant. We sat down- the seats are all couch cushion material, it's nice. The staff was incredibly friendly too; our main waitress ("main" because it seemed like everyone was attending to our needs) got excited when I ordered the pan-seared tuna w/ soba, she was adorable. But we wanted a taste of the sushi first, so I ordered a Snow White roll, and my friend ordered a Hadeed roll (we were feeling adventurous). Mine was sweet, hers was more spicy- we both ate off each other's plates, it was all good! Then I had my pan-seared tuna w/ soba- it was amazing!! Seaweed salad, melt-in-your-mouth tuna, and cold soba presented very beautifully in a tower. I had to bring some home, and already can't wait to eat it for lunch tomorrow! My friend had pork soba, which came in an amusing metal bowl contraption (kept it warm and rotated on a stand) which she really liked, and she brought her leftovers home too. We both had a wonderful experience, and would recommend this place to everyone!
Review Source:Can't attest to the restaurant because we got it delivered, but the sushi was good. Â Interesting flavors in the signature rolls, for example mango and sweet plum sauce. Â The sashimi was also fresh and tasty. Â Delivery time was a little long (almost an hour) but in the end it was worth waiting for.
Another thing worth noting was it was pretty cheap. Â Three signature rolls, two regular rolls, 1 order of sashimi, and edemame was $38.
A brand new restaurant in Valley Stream! Â It just opened at the site of the old New Hunan Taste Chinese restaurant, and they haven't even had that sign taken down yet. Â
The staff was very welcoming and friendly as soon as we walked in, and we decided to sit at the Sushi Bar. Â One of the chefs immediately made up a small delicious complimentary seafood salad for us before we even made our orders. Â My daughter and I opted to both go with the Maki lunch special which includes Miso soup, salad with Ginger Dressing and a choice of 2 regular rolls, Â We both went with an Eel Roll, with her getting a Tuna roll and I chose the Yellowtail roll. In addition we also ordered a Golden Spider roll from the list of specialty rolls. Â Our soups and salad were brought to us and we ate those while we watched the chef prepare our rolls,
The Miso soup was hot and delicious with some pieces of soft silky tofu, and shredded seaweed, and it also had some Enoki mushrooms, which I have never seen in Miso soup before, These were a delightful addition! Â The Ginger dressing and salad was delicate yet very tasty!
When our sushi arrived, it was beautifully presented and very fresh in appearance and aroma. Â The rolls themselves were excellently prepared, tightly rolled and in no danger of falling apart as they do in some lesser restaurants. Â The fish was very fresh and delicious! Â The Golden Spider roll had a very generous amount of softshell crab, and very fresh avocado.
As for the prices, they are doing what I've seen as a fairly new trend in some restaurants, in that they offer half price for all Sushi bar items if you pay cash, which we did, so the bill was very affordable!
Overall a great experience, and one I'm sure I'll be repeating often, and this is right around the corner from me!
