This was very disappointing. Â I went for brunch and ordered one of the benedicts. Â My eggs were totally overcooked, and my potatoes were room temperature. Â My server was pretty slow and absent. Â When I complained that my eggs were basically hard boiled (instead of poached) they took $2 off my meal. Â Thanks I guess? Â Would not recommend this to anyone. Â I basically had to force myself to eat my food because I was hungry.
Review Source:Great place to stop for a drink. Â I woudln't recommend the food. Â We have been there on our last few trips and the food was always ok...nothing special...just ok pub food. Â The last time the food was awful. Â My food was cold. Â I asked for it to be warmed up and it cam back so quick that it must have been zapped in the microwave....and even then it was still cold in the middle. Â I ended up not eating it. Â They did take it off the bill but they werent paticulary apologetic about the problem.I will go back for a refreshing shandy on a hot day, but I wont be eating there again...there are just too may better food options in Charleston.
Review Source:This is a decent little Irish place in downtown Charleston behind the market. This is my second time eating at Tommy's and on both occasions I left thinking... this place is alright.. nothing to jump up and down about but still pretty good. The fish and chips are a tad bit Blaine, and could use some more flavor. The shrimp and grits are really good, and the Reuben is spoken highly of as well. This is a good place to take a load off, and have a decent meal.
Review Source:Waddup, Tommy?!
I've had my eye on you since I moved here in November but always remembered you AFTER I had much lunch and was strolling back to the car. Â I remembered you yesterday, Tommy, and I will never, ever forget you.
$1 Mimosas - actually not a bad mimosa, not a Megmosa by any stretch of imagination, but if I can see champagne bubbles, that means you're a decent mimosa. Â Don't you hate it when you pay $5 for a glass of orange juice? Â Pisses me off.
I had just walked the bridge and in the spirit of Super Bowl junk food to be eaten later, I got a salad which was great! Â It was overdressed and could have used anchovy but meh. Â Not a mortal sin. Â The chicken was great and the croutons were off the chain! Â Rye croutons...writing that down.
JR C. got the...bookmaker? Â Bookmarker? Â Librarian? Â It was a gigantic beef sandwich (that's what...she...) with chee and SO TASTY! Â
Absolutely lovely server and equally lovely hostess. Â Good luck getting your wisdom teeth, server! Â
Pax had a blast, they gave him crayons to color, which he insisted on eating.
I have been here plenty of times but, only for drinks. Â I can't speak of the food. Â Tommy Condon's always seems to be a place we end up for late night drinks with a crowd. Â That crowd tends to be full of energy and ready for car bombs. Â
The majority of bars in the chuck don't do car bombs so, this is an Irish bar fits the bill for this type of behavior. Â Drop 'em and shoot 'em however you like but, this is a place where you do actually get an authentic Jameson/Bailey's/Guinness combo.
Tommy Condon's has this funky Irish bar smell to it. Â It seems authentic but, nothing you would want to share with friends if not necessary. Â It's is a great place for late night drinks or some St. Pats festivities. Â Otherwise, I will need to get back for food to get full disclosure.
Jambalaya was great; fish and chips was good. Washing it down with a Guiness certainly helps. The bread pudding was really good and one plate feeds two. Â The server was very pleasant. Â Sitting in the outdoor patio for a mid-afternoon lunch was a great way to enjoy some food, a game, the weather and watching people pass by as they enjoy Charleston.
Review Source:In the middle of South Carolina this place is a pretty good Irish pub. Service is pretty good. Patio is great in warm weather. I fondly remember this being the first place I tried Abita nearly a decade ago. Highly recommend it if you're in Charleston and want a good pub feel. (Warning: it can be a little touristy in the summer).
Review Source:This is the best Irish bar in Charleston located on Church St a block away from the Market. Â Locals patronage the place as well as tourists. Â
The atmosphere on Saturday nights is lively and carefree. Â There is fantastic live music (including a fiddler) that plays all the Irish favorites and then some!
A few friends and I stopped into Tommy Condon's for a late afternoon bite and drink. Â We loved the pub atmosphere--Tommy Condon's is very inviting to those walking in from the street seeking a casual drink. Â
Two of us had the Crab Cakes (appetizer) and the other had the Tommy's Burger. Â Our food hit the spot. Â I always worry about crab cakes--I don't want to eat deep fried patties of filler with flecks of crab... I want crab (and I know you do too)! Â Tommy's Crab Cakes had enough crab--and even though they were fried they weren't yucky. Â They were yummy.
Our server (Corey) was great. Â He was friendly and knowledgeable--he didn't seem rushed and he didn't hang around too long. Â He recommended the Crab Cakes (appetizer over menu portion) and shared some knowledge about regional brews that we found interesting.
The beer was cold, the food was good, and the service was memorable. Â I definitely plan on returning!
I can't speak to the food, so move on to the next if you are coming to eat.
I will speak to the vibe and drinks. Definitely above average.
They have a phenomenal beer selection from all over the States and UK. I had everything from a Boddington's to a $3 Irish Car Bomb.
There was also a 3 person band who played nothing but Irish music and were very good at their craft. Normally don't dig the house bands, but these guys were great.
Great spot to have a good beer and a good time.
Forget everything you've heard about an Irish pub and hit this one up. ANY Irish pub that puts a pint of Guinness as the first appetizer selection option is OK in my book!
The atmosphere is awesome. A great place to either have fun, or go out for a nice date. I'm a little upset that they were out of nachos to make Irish Nachos. Those sounded awesome. Guaranteed to get some Irish fair and some other great pub food selections like fish and chips! How about a Southern classic of shrimp and grits cooked Cajun style. Â
If you're in Charleston and don't hit up Tommy's, you should have your head examined..
Went with a group of about 10 here, and we were seated outside (under the tent part). I think the fact that we were all starving definitely helps up my opinion of this place. Some people got the crab cake appetizer and I will say I was a huge fan of those. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my crab cakes. I hate when they have too many onions and not enough crab, but these were perfect. A friend and I split the salmon and pasta entree. The salmon was good, but it had sooo much spice on it (which may be why it was good). I thought it was the perfect amount for me and I left satisfied with my meal, the prices, and the service.
I also like the location, it's right near market st. After dinner we all walked around and looked at the beautiful churches and houses around the neighborhood.
Had the beer batter fish and chips and it was some of the best that I have had OUTSIDE of Great Britain.
That means a lot because this place is suppose  to be an Irish Pub.
The only reason it is not getting 5 stars was my wife really didn't like fried green tomato blt. Â
We went for lunch so the place wasn't too crowded but I can see how this can be a favorite gathering place for the dinner and late night crowd.
I know, why an Irish Pub in the South? Surprisingly, there were quite a few of 'em. Â But, I must say, for the first night in Charleston, just walking around looking for a place to eat, I wasn't disappointed in either the fare or the pricing.
I had the jambalaya, and it was pretty good.
Why, oh why, would I go to an Irish Pub in Charleston? Granted, there is a huge Hibernian's building in town but, when in Rome ...
We wanted a quick, decent meal and chose this place because of some advertising we saw and the fact that the place looked good.
Our meals were good, but nothing to rave about. I had the Shepards' Pie and it was just so-so.
Not a bad place, but we probably could have done better.
Almost forgot - Dogfish Head on tap and it was great.
Very uneven in terms of experience.
We ordered fish and chips for my daughter. It looked great, but when we cut into it, the middle was completely raw, had not cooked at all! The waitress was great, responsive and professional. When she saw the fish, she said she would immediately replace it, and came back with a new, properly cooked dish soon afterward. She said we would not be charged for the dish because of the error. Â We also had a few salads and those were actually great.
Put then when we got the bill, several items on it were 50 cents to a dollar more expensive then how they were listed on the menu. When we inquired they claimed they had a software upgrade and that the menus would soon be changed to reflect the new higher prices. We were given a discount for the difference, but I don't know how many customers noticed that they were getting overcharged on all these items.
I remember looking at the menu and seeing the Irish Nachos and making a joke that they probably used potatoes instead of nacho chips. You know Irish people, always putting potatoes in everything!
Anyways, they actually did use potatoes instead of chips and those nachos were damn tasty. Besides the nachos this place is your standard Irish bar. I was there during the day with a dozen people 3 times my age, so I can't really comment on the late night bar scene.
Potato.
Stumbled upon this place in our desire to find decent food without a wait. Â We found it!
I had the Jambalaya - definitely good and I would have it again but it didn't rock my socks off. Â My adventuring partner had the shrimp and grits said it was the best grits he has ever had (keep in mind that he's only lived in the south for 6 months). Â We had an appetizer of sweet potato fries which were delish - it comes with cinnamon and sugar, but not overwhelmingly so. Â Very friendly wait staff in a nice casual environment.
I don't know what it was about Tommy Condon's, but it just wasn't happening for me. Upon arrival, our group had called for reservations earlier in the day. we arrived, and the hostess told us, yes, she had our reservations, and she would seat us as soon as they arranged our tables. Had she stopped and done this, that would have been great. However, instead, she continued to seat other groups, fine, but each time she would come back, she would basically follow the same steps she had already taken with us. Thus, we heard her tell us that she would seat us as soon as our tables were arranged no fewer than five times. Odd, and unnecessary.
Once we were seated, our server asked us when the rest of our party would be arriving and then also asked us what time it was? Another oddity. She also proved to be socially awkward through other interactions we had with her for the remainder of the evening, but overall, just another mediocre server. Nothing special.
We thought the food might redeem them, but being a standard Irish pub, didn't exactly hold our hopes up. Good thing, as the sandwich I had was bland and lacking flavor, and my husband's seafood was much of the same.
Go to Tommy Condon's for drinks or for the music, but otherwise, I'd pass on this experience, as there are far better places to dine in Charleston.
Classic Irish Pub!
My wife and I came on a Friday night around 7 o'clock, and was pleasantly surprised to find many open tables and no wait. Â We were promptly sat in the back area (are we really that bad looking??!), and were greeted by a new, but very nice waitress.
I had a $6.50 glass of Pinot Noir and my wife had a half Guinness half cider. Â So far so good. Â A medium well steak ($20) and the Seafood platter (~$20) was ordered and came out in seemingly good time.
The steak came out very pink. Â We aren't normally complainers, but we decided that it was pink enough to politely send back - which we did - and they cooked it up a little more and it came back out without a hitch! Â Although, it had a little more fat on it than we would have liked (especially for the price).
The seafood platter was good; came with friend shrimp, fried oysters, fried scallops, and some fried fish. Â Seeing a trend here? Â Everything was fried! Â Don't be afraid to ask to get those items cooked differently (grilled, boiled, etc.), they were more than happy to oblige.
All in all - the food was nothing to write home about. Â Seemed a little overpriced - but our waitress was very pleasant and helpful.
I can't wait to go back for their live music and get a feel of an ol' Irish Pub!
The soft shell crab sandwich (around $11 and worth every penny) I had at Tommy's was the best meal I had in Charleston and it's the best soft shell crab I've eaten in a long time ---- perfectly fried, plump and there was real crab meat in it!!! The remoulade sauce was nice and garlicky too -- just right!
We also ordered a cup of she-crab soup (it was ok, can live without it) and jambalaya (very well seasoned, enough to open your sinuses; needed some more salt though).
All in all, a fun touristy place; can have a decent lunch as long as you avoid the crowd (go early or go late) and order time tested classics.
Great beer selection.
Service ok ----- mainly high school/college kids who have no clue but one can always ask for management.
As a singer songwriter, I've been in probably over 600 Irish bars in my life so I'm a pretty good judge. You've got to know that you're going here for beer and whatever food you order is going to be mainly for sopping up the beer. If this is what you want, and touristy atmospheres don't bug you, go to Tommy Condon.
On the night we were there, the terrace was not to crowded and the two fans pointed right at our table were a relief on a humid Charleston night. It should not  be a prerequisite of an Irish pub, however, that the plastic coated table be sticky to the touch and the hard-used laminated menu actually wet and slimy. I did not want to leave my silverware unprotected on that surface!
The service was fast, albeit clueless. Emily, our college age server, knew absolutely nothing about the beer or the food. I tried a Palmetto Ale, just because it was local and I had never had one before: It's an OK ale, not very lively but with a fair amount of taste.
I ordered the crab cake salad and of all the styles of crab cake I've had so far around here, this was second to last: It was very "crabby" but everything was so over-battered and over friend, that it was hard to appreciate it. Â My partner had salmon with fettuccine Alfredo which was OK, too.
The guitar duo inside that night were OK, too: Talented guys really working it hard. Having played a lot in pubs, I can tell you that it really depends on the night so don't NOT go to a place because someone didn't like the musicians on the night they went. The very fact that this pub employs musicians is something I respect and applaud.
So don't go to Condon for your special Charleston meal. if you do because you're beat from walking all over, the location is very central to historic downtown and I'd say you're best served sticking with ales you know and like already and the shepherd's pie.
Really nice beer selection.
Great service--but its South Carolina basically everyone is insanely nice.
The Shrimp and grits I had left something to be desired but the reubens that two other diners I was with ate looked really really good. They confirmed that in fact the sandwiches were awesome.
My girlfriend had the Shepard's pit and loved it.
Overall a very nice atmosphere, the outdoor seating looked nice.
This was the 1st stop on a pub tour of Charleston & an above average Irish pub. With Larry Bird shirt proudly displayed above the bar i have to give a good review!!!
We ate Irish Nachos which were surprisingly good  They are Potatoe based rather than Nacho Chip based & we drank Cold Boddington Bitter & Magnus cider . The Atmosphere was relaxed but with a good energy, i could easily see myself spending many hours at TC
Nice place, the evening I went they had an Irish band in singing songs and taking requests. The food was good bar/pub food and the atmosphere is exactly what you expect when you go to a place like Tommy Condon's. I can say it is truly an 'Authentic' Irish bar but I think they only exist in Ireland so, I guess it is 'Ireland-American Authentic'
I'll be back, the Reuben was good and big!
This is where we have been eating when we come into town to go to Market. Â The kids love it, so does the brother ... he was working his way through the pub creations (half and half, black and brown for example) during his 3 visits here this trip.
The second time I came here during the recent trip I had the crab fritters with onion rings (appetizer) and She-Crab Soup. Â Yes, I was having a crab feast on my last day in Charleston. Â Mom was surprised, given that I am known to not eat soups. Â But yes it was soup, but is also had crab in it, and crab trumps soup.
This bar was recommended to us for a good place to spend the evening drinking and listening to live music. Â The bar area was reminiscent of an Irish pub - lots of wood and dark. Â We decided to grab a bite to eat on the patio which is quite large. Â I had the fish and chips. Â Food was okay. Â Overall, just your average pub fare. Â Service was spotty -our server had more tables than he could handle. Â
After dinner we moved inside and bellied up to the bar! Â Lots of great beer selections on tap and by the bottle. There was a three piece Irish band playing authentic music that got the crowd in a happy get your drink on mood. Â However, when they started playing Irish versions of Pink Floyd and the Beatles, I thought I had passed out and was in the midst of a nightmare. Â When reality set back in, I just ordered another beer, shook my head and smiled.
All in all it was a cool place to hang out for the evening.
The name of this place was the butt of several jr. high-style jokes over the course of the weekend, and a large group of the wedding party made it in after imbibing heavily at a welcome party at the French Quarter Inn across the street.
We found a large table in the corner and the folks sitting around us were nice enough to send us their extra chairs. There were two guys singing on stage and I remember them not being very good. I ordered a Smithwick's from our very friendly waitress and she brought it out quickly. I vaguely remember scanning the drink menu and not seeing it listed, however. Our waitress did a great job of splitting up the bill over the course of the night as people left.
Tommy Condon's was a pretty typical mediocre Irish bar that you could find in any city around the country. It was big and loud, but totally did the trick of an easy place to grab a beer, even though we really didn't need another.
TC's is a decent spot to grab a pint and a bite of cheap pub food if you want to sit out side on their deck, but the interior is pretty tired and drab, even for an irish pub. Â It's authentic in the sense that it looks as though it belongs in Quincy, Massachusetts and not Charleston, SC, in that it should be filled with a bunch of 60 year old irish guys sluggin back whiskey's, but that's about the extent of the authenticness of it...
If you want to grab a quick bite and are sick of sea food in Charleston, this isn't a horrible option especially since its large and usually there is no wait for seating and food.
