I've been meaning to go to Toom Toom Thai Restaurant for a while since I'd seen some of my friends go to it and mention how good the food is.
So, I decided to go on a Saturday to celebrate my birthday lunch. Â Toom Toom Thai is located right on the river. Â GREAT LOCATION! Â It's a quaint, yet colorfully Thai restaurant with a VERY welcoming owner, Chef Toom.
Chef Toom was very happy to see us when we came in and we got seated immediately. Â We had lunch midday, so, it wasn't crowded. Â My husband and I ordered the Pad Kee Mao and the kids had a bowl of noodle soup with tofu, which they split. Â
We also ordered an appetizer of their Summer Rolls because I LOVE fresh spring rolls. YUM! I was not disappointed! It was so yummy and the presentation was very good! Â I love to take pictures of food and the Summer Rolls made a good subject!
Then, our main meals came out. Â I have had Pad Kee Mao at other Thai restaurants and usually they do not have the big noodles cut up as small as they did at Toom Toom Thai. Â BUT, that's the good thing. It made the dish easy to eat and it was very delicious. Â JUST the right amount of spice(we asked for it medium spicy) and it was very yummy!
Would I come here again? Â You betcha!! :) Â I want to try their noodle soups and curries. :)

First time there, and I must say the food was great! Â Their menu is very comprehensive, and they are very willing to substitute, and make accommodations for special dietary restrictions. They were a tad bit slow, but then I realized that was because each dish is individually prepared, and I can totally see how that would take some time.
Will definitely try to make it there again.
Food was really good. Called in an order and the people were very nice. Even made a substitution for the mango sticky rice gave us free cheesecake.
I ordered take out. The restaurant itself seemed like your average Thai place. Nothing too special.
Totally will come back as I consume a ton of Thai food

This is a pretty decent take-out kind of place. Nothing fancy or up scale but they keep it relatively well kept. Overall the food was good. You can't beat a $7 lunch special. I walked away happy and full. The only point I can say detracted from my experience were that the tables weren't bussed or cleaned even after I was the only in the room. Even for a take-out place that is something simple that can be done. Other than that this place is definitely worth the visit or for take out.
Review Source:Went here today for lunch for the first time, with my hubby and my in-laws. Great food and the people in there were so nice! We had to wait a few minutes for my in-laws to meet us, and we were brought a complimentary cucumber salad which was fantastic. We will make this our new Thai spot!
Review Source:I just had lunch here and thought it was good. They have lunch specials that looked good, although that isn't what we ended up getting. We got chicken satay and summer rolls for appetizers and both were good. In fact, I'd say the chicken satay was great. Often it is rubbery and overcooked and I think this was done perfectly. The summer rolls were fine.
We split a main dish, which was not a problem at all for the waitress. We got yellow curry broth soup and it was nice and spicy.
I'd recommend Toom Toom for Thai food. Service was fine, nothing outstanding. We didn't have to wait like some of the other reviewers here, but we were there at 1.30 in the afternoon and there were only two other tables of people.
Glad my wife made the Valentine Day reservation. Â She had been to Toom Toom for lunch and enjoyed it. Â I was eager to enjoy a good Thai meal. Â
Service at our table was very very slow despite my getting up to go and get the waitress and complaining. Â Other couples were seated after us, ate and left before we had our main course which to me indicated a server problem rather than the kitchen. Â
Summer rolls and Satay for appetizers. Â Summer rolls for me were the best food of the evening. Â The Satay was bland, and served cold. Â I suspect the server had left them sitting for quite a while. Â I had the Chicken Basil, a house specialty. The presentation was unappealing and the flavor bland. Â My wife's Salmon dish was similar, with the salmon tough and lacking flavor. Â I had no desert, but my lady had coconut ice cream which she declared the best part of the meal. Â
I will not go back. Â There are better choices not far away.
I sometimes day dream about this place. Im not even kidding. Â
I have eaten here a few times and every time I am more then pleased. Their build your own soup....so damn tasty and you cant go wrong with any of the combinations. The chef will make any adjustment you request. Yes the wait can be a little long but the food is worth it and our host is constantly checking up on us. Great food at fair prices.. you're winning if you're at toom toom.
Cool dining space with a nice location in downtown Elgin. Â Overall the food was good and the waiter very attentive, but receiving the order took just a bit longer than expected with only 2 other small tables in the restaurant. Â Prices were just a little more than normal, but with a downtown location that makes a bit of sense.
Review Source:Had dinner here tonight. Â There are about 15 tables in the place and about 10 were occupied. Â There was one woman who was seating tables. taking orders, serving food and bussing tables. Â Way too much for one person. Â As a result, the service was VERY slow. Â I had the pad thai which I enjoyed very much but I don't think we'd go back based on the service alone.
Review Source:Popped  in here for lunch and had the cucumber salad  - DELIC to start and finished it off with their Crab Bamee.  The food was spectacular and very tasty.  They had some hot sauce I tried and OMG ...... watch yourself HOT....
It was just lunch, but the staff was great and the food came out quick. I'd go back and recommend to others. Â

Let me start off by saying that the only reason I ended up here was because White Pearl unexpectedly took the night off and I was in the mood for Thai during my short visit to Elgin. Â
I don't know what it was, but the lighting seemed really harsh when I had dinner here on Saturday night. Â Like a bare bulb ambiance. Â That aside, the food was actually really good. Â The Thai Iced Tea was good. Â I ordered the Bamee and the menu provided a choice of beef, chicken, tofu or shrimp for $9.95. Â I asked if they had pork and the waiter said he'd check and give me pork if they had it, otherwise I'd go with chicken. Â So I was in luck since I was served my dish with pork. Â I was disappointed with the type of noodles (thick lo mein instead of thin egg noodles) in this "bamee", since I was hoping for the Thai style and not this substituted free style dish. Â Perhaps I should have known when this dish didn't have BBQ pork as the default on the menu. Â That aside, the dish was good with this noodle in it, but on the plain side as there was really only noodles, pork and bean sprout. Â The disappointment doesn't end there, unfortunately. Â
When I got the bill, my Bamee was now $12.95. Â I assume it's because of the pork? Â I don't see why that would cost more and I probably would have gone with another meat if I had known about this price hike. Â I took an extra star off for this lack of communication. Â That aside, our waiter was friendly and attentive.
Overall: I just felt like it was an unjustified high priced Thai food experience.
We went to Toom Toom Thai on 9/18. That was a Monday. We were the only customers. There was an odor in the air that affected my sinuses. The white cotton table cloths were really dirty on the sides of the tables.. The table tops are covered by glass or plastic tops with white table cloths underneath. Â I'm suggesting if they read this to cover those tables differently. This was our second trip. The food was good as well as the service.
Review Source:During a less-than-busy lunch, three of us waited 45 minutes for our food. Â We asked about our order; the waitress was not apologetic and said it was coming. Â She then brought out one dish, waited 5 minutes, brought out another dish, waited 5 minutes, then brought out the 3rd dish. Â
Food was decent, but this was the worst service we'd had anywhere in a long time. It's unacceptable to have to be proactive about asking whether or not our order was placed.
I'm a little leery of Thai food since I've never had a good experience with it, but I always wanted to find something I liked so I have been on a quest! I found this little gem and decided to give it a go! I'm so glad I did because I left this place on a Friday night being an official Thai food fan. Â It's located in downtown Elgin so the parking can be tricky but not impossible. It's smaller on the inside than I thought but luckily there was no waiting.
The lighting is a tad dim and it's an old building but it has its charm and almost feels café/bar like. We looked over the menu and decided on some generic Thai fare to give us a sense of the place. There were only a few other tables in the place but the customers looked happy!  It took a bit of time to get our food and the wait was worth it! I got the cashew chicken which was flavorful and delicious, and my other half got the tofu pad thai which was equally as mouthwatering! I don't know much about Thai food to compare it, but I know that this place is awesome and I most certainly will be back. They have an extensive menu that offers lots of options for the meat and non meat eater. Â
The staff is also very friendly and polite, which is a big plus! Â If you're in the area and are craving Thai definitely give Toom Toom Thai a shot!

We stopped into Toom sunday evening based on a few freinds recommendations and pretty good reviews on Yelp. We walked into Toom and I thought we walked into a bar a empty bar but a lovely young lady came from in back and asked if we wanted to be seated. We said two please and she took us into the dining area and sat us down. We were the only ones there and we were concerned did we make a bad decision coming here.
We ordered a appetizer of Crab Rangoon and a couple of drinks before ordering our dinner. The Crab Rangoon were crispy and tasty not the best I ever had but probaby top five. Then I ordered the Garlic shrimp dish and my wife had the sweet and sour shrimp.
We were both extremely impressed by the dinners and wondered why they weren't busier so I asked our waitress are they always this slow and she said on subdays if there isnt a concert or event going on they are usually slow. but during the week and saturdays are much busier.
We found out as we were paying our bill that the name of the restaurant Toom is actually our waitresses mom's name whom was the Chef here. They are very friendly and if your in Elgin near the boats I highly recommend Toom Toom Thai give them a try!!
I visited Toom Toom tonight for the first time, and I can tell you, it won't be my last visit. I had yellow curry with chicken and glass noodles; it was exceptional. I saved half for tomorrow's lunch, but it was so good, I had to have a few more bites later in the evening. The prices are super-reasonable and our server was very nice. I Â highly recommend Toom Toom.

Review Source:We just moved back to Elgin and are very impressed with the quality of the restaurants popping up around downtown, and this place is no exception, we loved it. First off, the people there are wonderful! We felt like we were eating at someone's home, not a restaurant. My 4 year old daughter loved the people almost as much as they loved her, it is VERY child friendly which is a big plus in our book. Our waitress who I believe is the daughter of the chef was very informative and even took the time to explain her mothers specialty dessert, the purple rice, which by the way is amazing! You can taste the hours of love put into preparing it. And after our meal, her mom came out to see how we were and insure we had a nice meal, and even asked my daughter to insure she liked it as well. And we assured her that everything was wonderful, and it was.
The food was terrific, all piping hot except for my daughters food, Â which was brought out at perfect temperature for her to eat. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. All plates were clean which is rare for us with Thai or Chinese restaurants. And do yourself a favor and do NOT pass up a chance at having the purple rice dessert. You have the choice of having it served with coconut ice cream (which we had and was amazing), banana pudding, or fresh sliced mangos which my daughter had which she loved. Once again all plates were cleaned off as we dare not leave a single bite.
Some may like the food at other places a bit better, but you can't beat the atmosphere and hospitality of this place. That along with very good food has officially made this our go to Thai restaurant.
Mama Toom makes Thai as good any anyone. Â She uses fresh ingredients, and most of all, Love. Â She loves her customers, her community, and her employees. Â Their Thai Ice Coffee is awesome. Panang curry Beef with flatbread. Â Pad Kee Mao with Chicken. Â Try the mango with purple sticky rice for dessert.
Review Source:Chef 'Mama Toom' should be considered a local treasure. Â She *is* a "mama" to her customers and besides the awesome, authentic Thai food, she's what keeps me and mine coming back. Â
Last week I was feeling under the weather and I sent someone to pick up food for me. Â When Mama Toom found out I was sick, she made me some Tom Yum hot & sour soup and some special, complimentary wraps that I don't even think were on the menu. Â I don't know what she put in the food, but the next day it was as if I had never been sick! (and I'm usually sick with colds for weeks.) Â So, not only is Toom Toom's Thai the real deal, but Mama Toom really does take care of her customers, and you won't find a nicer bunch of people in the suburbs.
This is one of my favorite Thai places in the suburbs. Â It is family owned and they are very helpful and attentive and the service has always been in a timely manner. Â I've never been here when it has been overly crowded though. the food is outstanding I haven't had a bad thing yet and everyone who has eaten here with me is quite impressed as well.

Although it is in a part of Elgin that isn't necessarily the culinary capital of the Chicago-land area, but this fine dive happens to be much more than meets the eye. Review Source:Today was my second visit to Toom Toom in the last week and once again it did not disappoint. Â
On my first visit I had the Pad Kee Mao and it was awesome. I love spicy food and yes it WAS spicy but they do ask what level of spice you prefer. Â My four year old daughter devoured her pot stickers and cucumber salad.
We ordered the Basil Chicken and Thai Chicken Fried Rice to take home and the rest of the family loved it. Â All of the vegetables are extremely fresh and the dishes are not the least bit oily.
Today I ordered Hot and Sour Broth with wide noodles and chicken. Â The chicken was extremely tender and the broth was very tasty. Â There were fresh vegetables such as cheery tomatoes and bean spouts through out. Â The perfect lunch for a cold September day.
Found this place by accident tonight and we decided to give it a try. Cute place but have never experienced this kind of service. We ordered fairly quickly but still had to wait 45 minutes for an order of pot stickers. 30 minutes later still waiting for dinner. Finally had to tell the server that if our food did not come out real soon we would have to leave. 10 minutes later it arrived. Food was tasty but would never consider going back.
May add that there were only 2 of us and not a large party to service. Actually saw no large groups to service so not sure why it took so long. Saw one table leave after eating only appetizers. Could be that they received their soft drinks at least a half hour after they ate their appetizers. Sat right next to us and do know that the drinks were ordered at the same time the order was put in:)
I couldn't disagree with April P more. Â I have never had poor service here. Â This is a small family owned business and the most people I have ever seen working here is 4 people. Â This isn't TGI Fridays where there are a ton of people working all the time. Â So, if your service was a little slow then it's probably a GOOD thing because that means a small, local business is doing well.
My girlfriend and I LOVE Toom Toom. Their food and their staff are awesome. We've always been nice to them and they've always been nice to us in return. Â We've been to Toom Toom enough that Chef Toom knows exactly how spicy to make our food. Â The portions a reasonable and the flavors are excellent. Â I've tried most of the items on the menu and I prefer the Green and Red curries with chicken. Â If you don't feel like eating in the restaurant, festival park is a short walk away. Â Get your food
to go and enjoy eating outside!
Also, if I understand correctly, Toom Toom is BYOB.
This isn't the worst Thai food I've ever had in my life, but it's no Akina's.
Akina's is the Thai restaurant that used to occupy this space. And it was far, far better than Toom Toom. I've had Toom Toom twice now -- once as carryout, once dine-in -- and was disappointed both times. This is a shame, because I really wanted to like Toom Toom, the owner seems like a nice lady, and downtown Elgin can use all the decent restaurants it can get. But this place is just too inconsistent.
When my husband and I dined there, we were seated right away, but we had to wait a long time for anyone to come and take our order. Then we had to wait a long time for the food. And frankly, it wasn't worth the wait. The pot stickers tasted like frozen ones you can buy at the store and heat up in the microwave. I'm almost positive they weren't made on site. No flavor, just bland and "meh." The chicken satay was dry and overcooked. My meal, Bangkok curry noodles with tofu, wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either; for some reason, the flavors just didn't mesh well together. My husband got the ginger chicken, which he said was good, but the portion was surprisingly small, and he was still hungry after finishing it.
I'd be willing to try Toom Toom again to see if it improves; I think it has potential; but for now, I'm not a fan. I think this restaurant needs to focus more on the quality of its ingredients and attentiveness of the wait staff.
I ordered take out from Toom Toom a few weeks ago and I'm not sure what happened. Â I ordered the red curry which is my favorite, but that day it was HORRIBLE. Â There was absolutely no flavor. Â I guess the fact that the color of it wasn't even red should have tipped me off...it was more green. Â Perhaps they made green curry instead of red and marked the container as red curry. Â We also had ordered another staple...the Panang curry. Â Now that looked more like red curry, but again completely lacking in any flavor. Â The vegetable soup wasn't great either. Â Had a weird taste and left an even weirder after taste. Â Even the thai fried rice was not good. Â How do you mess up fried rice?
This used to be one of our favorite Thai places to eat, but not anymore...and that's such a shame.
Was contacted by the owner (Toom) and she apologized for the poor service and asked that I try again. Â She recommended that for lunch hour it would speed things up to order ahead to speed up the process. Â I took her up on her idea and went back today.
2nd visit - Called ahead and ordered what I wanted to eat and arrived - seated promptly, appetizer was there within minutes, entrée (Basil Chicken) soon afterwards.  The Basil chicken (medium heat) was DELICIOUS!  Lots of basil,  ground chicken was still tender and not 'gravelly' as it can be sometimes if it gets overcooked.  I ate every bite, if people weren't around, I might have licked the plate clean.  ;)  Toom came out and introduced herself and recommended the Grandma Ice Cream dessert (coconut ice cream with warm purple sticky rice)  very good!  The ice cream was light and not grainy and the purple sticky rice was a nice temperature and texture contrast.
I used to think I didn't like Thai food. Then I learned that I just needed to try it at a good place! I think a lot of ppl don't try it bcz they are not familiar w items on menu or think the food us too spicy. FYI, u can request spiciness on scale of 1-10. I like mine at a 7 but I like very spicy. If you don't, start at a 1 or 2 can always add more red pepper sauce, can't take it away!
I like certain dishes so much that I basically order the same thing all the time, but here is my rundown: (excuse the spelling lol)
Pad key Mau- noodle dish is lite delicate brown sauce. W/chicken n veggies but can have w tofu beef or salmon (lil extra $ 4 salmon but worth it) Amazing dish.
Pad Thai- the best I ever had. (Warning: has nuts in it in case u have allergy). Â Didn't think i would like noodles w peanuts But it gives a nice crunch to it. Great flavor.
Tom Yum- broth soup w ur choice of meat or shrimp w lots of onion n mushrooms n sum tomato. Â Flavored w cilantro n lime. Addicting!
 There is a Tom Ka which is the same as above but w a coconut milk. I like this one very much too I always get one of these soups depending on my mood.
Basil Chicken- ground chicken w basil n rice. I've heard a lot of ppl say it's too spicy. Order it using 1-10 scale at ur preference n u will love it.
Thai Tea- fattening but worth it lol!
Ok, now that I've talked about the food let me move on to the restaurant itself. It is beautiful and spacious, but w an intimate feel. It is BYOB but only a couple bucks corkage fee which is the cheapest ive ever seen anywhere. The owner, Toom, is lovely and kind. She loves her customers and treats them like family. Â She is the chef n her food is cooked with love i swear you can taste it! Her beautiful daughter works there with her and she is always friendly and efficient.
If you have never tried Thai food or if you love it, do yourself (n ur tummy :) a favor and pay this place a visit!!!!
My fiance suprised me with dinner at Toom Toom Thai for Valentine's Day and the experience was amazing. It's a family affair at this resto!
First off, the owner Toom was the most gracious hostess and by far the sweetest woman ever. Her son and daughter make up the highly atttentive waitstaff and are equally helpful suggesting menu options they enjoy on their Mom's menu. Everything we had was delicious and authentic! I would highly recommend their Tom Yum soup if you're in the mood for something spicy.
We plan on making Toom Toom our favorite local Thai spot! Oh, and let's not forget the amazingness of BYOB. If you're in the area, you have got to try Toom Toom, you won't regret it!

I was very excited when I found out this Thai place opened in Elgin because the Bangkok House is just terrible.
I met Toom, the owner, and she is a delightful lady. You can tell she loves people and wants them to enjoy the food she prepares.
I wish I could say I loved the food. My family ordered up a ton of things off the menu, everything was good, but not great. I can't put my finger on why its not great, but i will go back and try the curry. mostly because of Toom.
This is a great Thai restaurant. Â I have had the Pad Thai, and like several other reviewers have said, the noodles are over cooked, and little mushy in consistency. Â This is not the best dish at Toom-Toom. Â The Panang Curry is very good, and my wif'e's favorite comfort food. Â The chef is very accommodating and has come out to make sure everything is to our liking on multiple occasions. Â One of our favorite places to eat out.

Absolutely horrible. Â My family and I were looking for an alternative to eat in the area besides the casino buffet, and I made mention that I saw this new Thai restaurant when entering the downtown Elgin area. Â
The décor is really nice, but the service was TERRIBLE.  I am not one to judge on service alone, because if the wood is wonderful, the service can be slightly overlooked. Â
For appetizers, we had the crab Rangoon and the fresh spring rolls with shrimp. Â The crab rangoons had to be the smallest ones I've ever had, with only 4 to the order, and them being thumb size. Â They were pretty tasty, but still doesn't suffice being $4 for 4 tiny appetizers. Â As for the spring rolls, I was less than impressed. In one of my earlier entries, I stated I haven't had a bad spring roll yet. Â Let me amend that statement. Â These spring rolls weren't terrible, but they almost as if they were trying too hard. Too much mint, too much cilantro, too much lettuce. Â Those spices are supposed to enhance, not overpower.
For entrees, we ordered the beef panang curry, the chicken pad thai and the crab fried rice. Â Being first timers, we ordered our entrees after we had started eating our appetizers, and figured the entrees would take a little while since they weren't ordered immediately. Â That would have been forgiving. Â What was annoying was the fact that the entrees all came out individually, with 5 minute intervals. Â In order and description were the beef panang curry, which we requested to be done minimally spicy. Â She obliged and stated that it would be slightly spicy because of the curry they used, and we were okay with that. The beef panang was decent, the beef an ok consistency, the panang sauce a merry of curry and coconut, slightly spicy as we were forewarned. Â This was the best of the three dishes. Â Five minutes later, the chicken pad thai came. Â The noodles were slightly overcooked, making a little of a mushy noodles. Â There was a little too much fish sauce in there, as my aunt pointed out, and once I tasted it, I agreed. Â One bite of that is sufficient, but by the time you eat half the dish, you are really thirsty. Â Very disappointing since chicken pad thai is supposed to be staple dish of testing out a new Thai restaurant. Lastly, was the crab fried rice. Â I was most excited about this, as I have a favorite crab fried in Scottsdale, AZ and haven't found one yet that would pale in comparison. Â This was decently flavored, but my quipe with this was that there was a HUGE piece of crab shell in there which I took a big bite of. Â UGH! Â I am warning you TOOM TOOM, Someone, other than me, is gonna file a medical lawsuit against you when they crack their tooth on one of those shells.
As for the service, well it was just horrible. Â So horrible that at one time when she asked us how we were doing, NONE OF US replied. Â There was only one waitress, with 5 tables, including ours. Â Each table had a couple with the exception of 1, where it was a single diner. Â Our table had 3 diners, and we were less than low maintenance, requiring regular water fills, and just typical things such as a larger plate than the saucer we were given to eat out of. Â The waitress would disappear for LONG moments, so I was confused as if she was helping the chef back there actually cook our food. She wasn't even really helping other tables, and would only appear to bring out the food every now and then. Â Note to restaurant: if you come out once with ALL the dishes at once, it will save a lot of time and effort. Â Efficiency is key!!! Â The waitress herself, looked heavily annoyed when we would ask for refills of water. Â It was so bad and took so long that we were sucking on the ice because the pad thai was overly salty, and we were desperate need of some thirst quenchers.
The thai iced coffee was the worst I had ever had. Â This concoction, betterly known as Liquid Diabetes, had unproportioned elements of coffee and half and half. Â Think, a smidge of coffee, the rest half and half! Â GROSS!
I won't ever come back to this place and hope my review would influence you to never make the same mistake I did!
I came here last night with my parents, and I have to say, I was really impressed. Â To begin, I love the decor and ambiance. The walls are a bright red, and are decorated with really lovely photographs of scenes of Thai life: women at the fish market, a tuk-tuk, the flowing robes of Buddhist monks. Â I had the green curry noodle soup, and I must say it was fabulous. Â The green curry had a really fresh flavor, and finished with a great spiciness. Â My husband loved his basil chicken, which was authentically ground rather than sliced, and my parents really enjoyed their pad thai. Â On the whole, I would definitely take their spicy warnings seriously. Â Both the green curry and the basil chicken were quite spicy (a definite plus in my opinion).
What put this place up from four stars to five was how accommodating they were. Â My mom has a shellfish allergy, which can be really challenging at Thai restaurants. Â However, the chef offered to make her anything on the menu without shellfish or fish sauce, and used separate utensils and cookware just to be safe. Â When my dad and I ordered tofu dishes, the waitress asked if we were vegetarian and needed the dishes made without fish sauce and in special cookware. Â How nice is that? Â I've never before had someone be so proactive about making sure the food fit our dietary needs. Â It was really wonderful.
Toom Toom is better than most of the Thai I've had in Chicago, and I only wish I could find a place this good in the city. Â Luckily, my parents live near Toom Toom, so I'll be able to go frequently.
Right now, they're waiting for the liquor license, so it's BYOB, and I don't know that there's any corkage fee. Â Next time I go, I'll definitely take advantage of that.
Also, to respond to some other posts, I agree that the service is slow. Â However, there is one waitress, the daughter of the chef, and I do get the sense that she goes back and helps with the cooking. Â Maybe not ideal, but for a new restaurant with not a lot of capital, I'm willing to let it go. Â Also, I don't really mind dishes coming out one at a time if there's only one chef. Â I appreciate that each dish is actually made from scratch when ordered.
Also, why is everyone ordering crab rangoon? Â Cream cheese isn't Thai food, people.
Got carryout from Toom Toom last night with our friends. Â I ordered the pad thai and I can say that it was the worst pad thai I've ever had. Â The noodles were really mushy and it didn't have any sweetness to it.
We had the crab rangoon as an appetizer and were really surprised how miniature they were. Â I've never seen crab rangoon that small. Â They were also stingy about the rice. Â How expensive is rice? Â Just fill up the carton.
On a positive note my wife really enjoyed the panang curry.
I'm not going to completely rule this place out because the quality issue could have been due to getting carryout. Â However, my first impression was ick.
My husband and I are entertaining the idea of moving to the fascinating city of Elgin Il. On one of our house hunting expeditions we noticed Toom Toom and immediately appreciated the new budding business of a "city style restaurant" to the area - fans already.
We were in on a cold December afternoon around 3, ordered the spring rolls (tasty) and I ordered the Pad Thai (a standard when trying out a new Thai place), and it was pretty good. My husband ordered Panang curry and he loved it, however I tried it and it was super spicy, Â so if you love spicy I would go for that dish. Â Overall, we enjoyed our experience and the service was friendly and fast.
