This place is absolutely fantastic, we find ourselves chowing down here for good Mexican at least once, sometimes twice a month. Their food is fresh and just downright delicious. I've had most things listed on the menu, too... enchiladas, chimichangas, tacos, tamales... it's all amazing food. The servers are great, the ambiance is unique (it's in an old house that is supposedly haunted), the margaritas are strong, and the food is really outstanding. Give this place a try one night you don't feel like cooking, I promise you won't regret it.

Had not been in years since there was a time when the place went down hill. Figured we would try again and we were surprised food was good, hot and tasty. Service was good our first couple of trips but was slow the 3rd visit. I would go again and I like it better than Lacarretta.

I've stopped here a few times after going to the brewery down the road. My boyfriend loves this place I on the other hand think it's just ok. The service is usually very slow. Young kids hanging out waiting on people when they feel like it, that sort of thing. The portions are big but nothing special. The crab meat enchiladas are the only thing that sets them apart from most Mexican restaurants. They're very cheesy and filled with lump crab meat. It's defiantly not the first place I'd choose to eat but it's also not terrible. Just A-OK.

Decent food. I had the beef tacos; not bad. But I didn't really think they were anything special. I usually prefer Mexican restaurants that aren't huge chains because the food is typically better. Tortialla Flat wasn't bad at all; fair prices and nice staff. It just didn't stand out for me.

If you are passing by do not slow down, press down on the accelerator and get out of town. There are plenty of good Mexican places around, this is not one of them.

This place serves Italian food with Mexican names and shapes like burritos with what can only be classified as marinara sauce on top.

Terrible food, no matter how you classify it but it is most certainly not Mexican. No Mexican style spices, herbs, nor even the slightest hint of heat.

I visited this place again after a couple year hiatus. It couldn't possibly be as bad as I remember, right? Wrong, even the margaritas are bad. If you are here with friends and stuck you should fill up on bottled beer and tequila straight up, the only two things they can't screw up.

Worst "Mexican" food that I have ever had anywhere including fast food.

Great margaritas!! The key to a great margarita is of course the lime juice (Jamaica Gold) and, equally important, the long strong rocking "shake"!!!

Not exactly Mexican food. It's very Americanized. Drinks are good. You're better off driving 20 mins north to Manchester if looking for authentic.

Fast, friendly service and reasonable prices. Best margarita's around! Food could use a little more 'Bam' and portions could be bigger. It's much better than La Carreta's....!

Okay... nice looking from the outside, plenty of parking. There are the positives.

Food...ah, honestly tastes the same as if it came from a chain. I was not really impressed. But then again I left full.

Service... we were the only one's there and we had to hunt down the waitress. Food came quickly, then again the waitress was nowhere to be found to pay up.

This place came recommended from a Boston Celebrity, tex-mex must be horrendous in B-town if she adores this place....

Absolutely LOVE this place!!! It's right down the street and the food is delish. We were told by our real estate agent to try it out when we bought our house and she was right. The margaritas are fantastic, some stronger than others... and I'm working my way down the list of specialty mixes to find a favorite. The chips and salsa are in abundance and it's kinda cute that they have them out for you to help yourself.
We've been a handful of times and ordered a variety of items. My favorite so far is the 3 chimi plate- 1 chicken, 1 beef and 1 pork with rice and beans (I get double rice so I can't speak to the beans) and it's always yummy. Usually sit in the bar area because of the tv's. I enjoy the atmosphere and the waitstaff is usually very pleasant and quick.
The have nightly specials, a juke box, and all in a pretty cool looking building.

Love this place... Highly recommend!!

Love this place! Some of the best drinks in the area (and never weak) and such a great atmosphere to boot. The older house turned restaurant combined with some tasty mexican food and you really can't go wrong! I'll be frequenting again and will likely have a couple more Starburst drinks. :)

Fathers Day at Tortilla Flat in Merrimack. I've visited Tortilla Flat a few times over the last couple of years - it's a bit out of the way for me but I've always had good food there. I even recommend it to friends who are visiting and looking for Mexican food. Alas, no more. Terrible dining experience. I'd like to think that it was due to me having a http://Restaurant.com certificate but it seemed like the other tables were having issues too.
The service was poor at best. We'd order drinks and wait. Then for refills we'd ask for a refill and the waitress would walk off without getting all the orders, empties would be left on the table even when we'd asked for them to be taken to create more space (six of us on a table was a bit crowded - even if the restaurant wasn't).
The food took over an hour to turn up and then it wasn't all at the same time. I had to tell people to start eating before it went cold. The food itself was average at best. My shrimp fajitas were the last to arrive and sounded good - but that's as far as it went. I ordered the plate and according to the menu they came with 4 tortillas, rice and beans. Mine didn't. I ended up with 3 tortillas and no rice and beans. The manager for the evening even argued with me about the number of tortillas I should have got. The plate the shrimp arrived on was swimming in oil - I was told they used that much to get the sizzling sound. The rice that people did get was dry (how do you manage that unless its been sitting out for ages - oh yeah.. that's it.) and overall quality was poor. The only bright spot was the margaritas - strong. Maybe I should have been drinking that to take the edge off.

We waited 15 minutes for the bill as we didn't want dessert. Because I needed $100 on the bill to use the $50 certificate then we had an issue - it was only $92. I told the waitress to just round it up or do something - I didn't care - I'd spent too much time in this place already. Another ten minutes passed.

Then she arrives with 3 brownies to take out.. great. As they'd done nothing else to make up for the poor food and worse service then obviously this was how they were going to say sorry!!! Ha! As if.. The 3 brownies added another $17 to the bill. Nice.. should be $100 but now its $109. Plus they billed me for the full $109 - they hadn't taken the $50 certificate off.
They ran the bill again and presented me with a bill for $59... I signed and added the tip (why I'm not sure - service was terrible) and got out and went home. When I got there I unpacked the brownies. $17 for 3 brownies that were smaller than you'd get at a school bake sale.
I'd given them a chance to correct the screw up in the restaurant but the manager didn't give a damn - and to argue with me about what was written on the menu showed the attitude she had.
I can't think of a reason I would go back here - or ever recommend it to anyone.

To round out the experience nicely I checked by bank account this morning and the only item pending is $109 from Tortilla flat - yep the wrong amount.. looks like I may have to go back anyway to sort this out. There is still time for that to be corrected though.

So happy Fathers day? No - as my Fathers day meal, and the one footing the bill, it was a terrible dining experience.

This was a very interesting looking place. Looks like a log cabin inside. The atmosphere at this place was top-notch. However, the food here was not that great. Nothing major dissappointing, but we did not care for the rice and the margaritas were terrible (it was like 3 parts alcohol to 1 part mix). If you like getting a buzz with drinking alcohol, you will get it here. If you are looking for a good-tasting alcoholic drink, this is not the place for you. You will feel a lot after only one drink. All in all, not a terrible place. Would we come back if we were in town again? Probably not.

I went for the no star or half star review but lacked the choice, so 1 star it is.

What can be said? the food here is terrible...anyone can make drinks, and that seems to be what keeps it going. That, and the lack of knowledgeable diners in the area. Why on earth, if you're in the mood for mexican food, would you spend your hard earned dollars on this mess?

Had the displeasure of having lunch there not too long ago and it hasnt changed one bit. Poor service..sticky menus, filthy surroundings. The food arrives and that's where the real disappointment hits. You're caught between sending everything back and telling the waitress "no thanks" or just pondering the thought of heading over to Taco Bell for an upgrade.

A Merrimack drinking hole..the Bud Light team is in full effect most nights. Food is definitely an afterthought.

Ok. I admit it. I went to the tortilla flat when I first moved here because I was told it was haunted. I love ghost stories and I wanted to visit a "haunt" of new england. Sadly, I didn't find the ghosts, nor really any ghost stories (the staff didn't have any, but they did tell me they had a ghost hunters (not the tv show) in the night before.

What I did find was pretty good Mexican inspired food. I very much enjoy their queso and chicken chimis. The only complain I had was the spiciness was left out... but then again this is New England, and can understand why.

I love the ambiance of the place, the old house turned into restaurant is a real treat. This Christmas, they had the cutest moose display made out of birch on the front lawn.

Worth a trip. Maybe you can have the "ghost" experience I so want to have.

Bleck.

I keep trying to go here and hope it's going to get better, but it never does. It's right down the street from my house and they serve mexican food and tequila..how could they mess that up?

I dunno, but they do.

We ordered chicken & steak fajitas...what did we get? 2 small slabs of beef...uncut and 2 small chicken tenders...uncut. And by small I mean the size of your thumb.

The food almost always comes out cold or luke warm and the service is hit or miss.

I've had one good meal here in the past few months and it was at lunch...so maybe the lunch chefs are better than the night chef(s).

It's really very poorly done and the only thing to go here for is the margarita's...which are also subpar.

Admittedly I haven't been here in a while.... but we used to drive from Hudson up to Merrimack to eat here. When I was home last weekend, we were driving by it en route to Bedford and it made me remember when we used to frequent Tortilla Flat.

One of the reasons we stopped going here is that we discovered that they buy beans that have cheese mixed in with them (and my sister and bro-in-law are vegan, so no dice there).

They have decent, not great, Mexican food. This place is very dimly lit, yet it's kind of cozy. I'd have to try it again some time to see if I still enjoy it.

My husband & I went here one night and weren't too impressed with the food. He ordered the 3 enchilada plate & I got a chicken enchildada & a bround beef taco. My husband thought the enchilada sauce tasted similar to spaghetti sauce, it was very thick, nothing we've ever had before! If you like spice, don't go here.. Nothing is really spicy at all & the only was to add any kind of spice is by jalapenos. Even the table salsa wasn't hot in the slightest! The place was dimly lit, if you don't get a table under a lamp forget about being able to see your table very well, we happened to be 1 of those unlucky couples! We won't go back again, while the server was nice & helpful she was a bit slow (our chile con queso dip was brought out cold, refills, etc.) for having 3 tables, one being a large party, but still....the place wasn't busy at all. You could hear the servers talking loudly & laughing in the back, kind of annoying. I prefer La Carreta's hand-down.

I went here a while ago, and probably was too young (tweenage) to really appreciate Mexican food other than Taco Bell. However, while I didn't like my tacos, I loved the enchiladas I had the next time I went; the sauce, extra cheese and good sour cream portions made an impression upon me, and for dessert, I was ticked pink by the fried ice cream.

This is a decent place for Mexican food and drinks (one of the few watering holes in town). The place is dimly lit and there is the bar area to the right and the main dining area to the left. When I'm here, it feels like I'm dining at a cozy lodge. The service is friendly and efficient. The complementary chips and salsa are good here. The Margaritas here are strong. My favorite dinner is the Crabmeat Enchiladas (2 of them) served with rice and refried beans. For dessert, I like the Banana Chonga (banana and chocolate rolled in a deep fried tortilla and served with whipped cream) which is very sweet, but it goes well with my hot coffee.
