Just an update- we called the manager the day after- never got a call back. So I guess that proves what kind of management they have there. There are 2 types of restaurants in Springfield as far as I'm concerned.. the ones that would be able to survive in NY where we're from (Aviary, for example)... and the ones that would end up closed in a month... Flame would never survive with the service they give.
Review Source:After tonight I will never dine there again. Selection was awful, no entertainment and no valentine decor.
We have dined here before and everything was fantastic. This time the owner and chef must have decided it wasn't worth preparing a good menu. Fixed pricing with four dinner options and dessert served with plastic spoons!
Never go after 6pm since the menu prices almost double and the food isn't worth the premium.
Either yelping in Springfield isn't that popular or more people need to try Touch.
Before I go into the review, I want to explain my reason for the visit to Touch. I came here for a pre-job-interview dinner. Unfortunately, I was sick at the time. I didn't think I was going to be able to eat anything as I'd been unable to eat the day prior, but I was going to force myself to no matter what because didn't want to look like some weirdo who didn't eat.
I ended up ordering the wild-caught alaskan salmon (medium rare) with quinoa and calamari frites. I also had a grilled caesar salad. Now, let me just say that I still didn't have an appetite, but everything was absolutely delicious. I didn't even need the side of dressing with the salad because it was so flavorful from the grilling. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the quinoa tasted light, fresh, and delicious. Now, although I thought the calamari frites were good, I thought they were overkill. There was one with my salad and like 6 or more with my salmon. Granted, I had little to no appetite, but I just don't see the point of serving a full serving of fried calamari with an already large portion of salmon and quinoa. It was just a lot of food. All of it was very good, but it was very disjointed, as if it were two meals on one plate.
Despite my few complaints, this meal was truly delicious. It was one of the best pieces of prepared fish I've had in a long time. This is high accolades when considering that I kept thinking, "God, I hope I don't have to throw up." I do look forward to returning in the future when I'm (a) not nervous and trying to impress/not weird out a potential employer and (b) not worrying about throwing up whatever I eat.
Great Happy Hour. Make sure to ask for the dollar menu.
The service can be a bit slow sometimes.
The decor is awesome and the tables and booths give you a wonderful sense of privacy. In addition, the general manager is always there greeting customers and making sure everything is up to snuff.
The crowd can be interesting. Lots of professionals dressed up to nines engaging in questionable conversations. Perfect place to people watch.
Whenever I am back in town I always make it a point to stop in and enjoy some great appetizers and drinks in the lounge. You just can't beat this place for great apps at an unbelievably low price. The service has always been top notch too.
Try the shrimp bijan, tenderloin medallions or either of the risotto's.
I love this place!
Huge reputation. I agree with some of the other comments about the decor, it looked like they asked, "What would you NEVER, EVER, EVER want in your house?" and put it here. The Ladies' room was womb-like and scary. It was also so dark that it took awhile before I could see.
The drinks were good but I suspect "Happy Hour half price" also means half the liquor. Go with the pick 3 for 16.95 menu. Don't go with a large group. The wait staff tried their best and even obliged us by taking a couple of pictures of our group of 14, but when your friend is sitting waiting for their food and everyone else has theirs, it is a little awkward! It wasn't just one person, either. Â
My food was mixed...the Touch salad was excellent, although the presentation was lacking. It was just a pile on a huge plate. The main course of bacon wrapped steak medallions started well with one that was medium (like I had ordered) and the other was still mooing. The dessert was a very rich bread pudding. It tasted very pumpkin-y. I asked the server about it and she said that actually it was red velvet cake, then she said that maybe it was leftover pumpkin muffins. Now I know that bread pudding is NOT a pretentious dish and can be made to use up leftovers. But I think if it is made of something as flavor-intense as pumpkin muffins or chocolate CAKE the server might mention that. It was too rich. If you like a HUGE serving of dessert (and pumpkin) you would have been thrilled. The creme brulee, on the other hand, came in a teensy little custard cup - like one for condiments and sauces. My friend felt really cheated with her choice.
So, I would go back, but only for the early bird meal. Their regular menu is just too much for this gal. We did have a great time, but this bunch has a great time whatever we do!!!
I planned a business meeting for my supervisor and some donors in the area. Â She was very pleased with the food and service. Â Said they were responsive and understood it was a meeting. Â She was also impressed with the location. Â As a traveler it was close to her hotel...which was done on purpose :).
Review Source:The first (and only) time we have been to Touch was for Mother's Day brunch. When we told friends where we were headed, they ooohed and aahhed. "Best restaurant in town!" they said. I'm not convinced.
We've been to some very good (Keeter Center, Hemmingway's) and some spectacular (Big Cedar Lodge, Chateau on the Lake) brunches. The price of this one was higher, but the quality was nowhere near the competition. The buffet was sloppy and poorly attended. Our server was so annoyed by the fact that our family came to spend $300 to eat there, or so it seemed, because she was rude and not very attentive.
Following our below-average meal, we were looking forward to their featured desert - Andy's Frozen Custard. When we arrived at the desert station, there was no custard, only an angry mob waiting... They were out of custard. Yes, they RAN OUT of desert during a fully booked Mother's Day Brunch which cost about $50/person.
I can't say I'm too excited about ever returning to Touch.
A lovely restaurant set amongst the fast food strip-mall chains. Delicious food, gorgeous decor, and a friendly and attentive staff.
Went here with a large group where we were set up in a private upstairs room with a set menu. Everything from the Bacon Bistro to the fish tacos were beautifully presented and delicious. The starter salad and Bread pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert also incredibly good.
The bar area offers great 1/2 price cocktails, but other than the price that part of the restaurant was probably its least impressive as it was loud and crowded and the cocktails only so so. Skip this and go straight to the beautiful dining area.
A real happy surprise. Recommended and would definitely go back if I am in the area again.
Two for one 1/2 price cocktails during happy hour! Cheap but tasty tapas plates! Decor that is exactly what you always pictured a "lounge" would look like in your adult fantasy about drinking establishments but never was, even on those trips to Vegas.
It's true, I do not frequent bars or drink very often but as a treat we went here one afternoon to indulge in what we heard by word of mouth was the best happy hour in Springfield. $30 later we'd eaten too much, I'd drunk too much and we were glad for the day off work.
Eat here many times. Â The food is always excellent. Â The menu does change every year and so does/did the complimentary before dinner dish. Now they serve some kind of extra sweet muffins.... Â We enjoyed when they would bring us humus. Now you have to pay for the humus from the menu. Â The service is always over the top for me. Â The best seats are in either back corner to enjoy a private romantic seating. Â ** Â catch the 5 course dinner special they offer from 5-6 pm.
Review Source:Man. Touch is something else. This review will keep to the lounge area and the happy hour business. We had heard good things about their food and HH specials, so we thought we would give it a try. Indeed they have good food, but the ambiance...well...god damn; this WILL get tedious.
Touch's lounge area is the perfect scene for a mid-life crisis for rich, white people. All around the lounge is every kind of texture and color you can pretty much imagine, but not well thought out. It looks like a bored housewife took all the leftover fabric from Hobby Lobby (and the dumb nick-nacks from Kirklands) and put it all in one place and dimmed the lights. Not sure which is my most-awesomely bad favorite: the snakeskin tiles on the bar-not joking-or the dining chairs ENTIRELY covered in leopard print (Finally! I can understand what the trashy girl in high school felt when sitting on her leopard print car seat covers in her Ford Probe, while striking up a GPC-ON CAMPUS!). The couch we were on had suedeish seats and another reptilian-like covering on the upper half. It even had leopard print pillows! Yes! Everything in the ambiance of the lounge suggests a porno set. Platinum blonde/black haired servers, just short of pleasingly attractive, weaving in and out of worn out sexual innuendo filled conversations from the peppy, balding, bartender to the sad-chested, make up layered girl drinking her early evening away.
My question: Will this be worth the food?
My fish tacos (I ordered two) were pretty good, but very greasy and messy. Nice, strong, but pliable tortilla, fried onion straws, tilapia and a salsa thing. Kinda sweet and a bit savory. The truffle oil fries were light and crispy, although most were the size of the pieces that are left after all the big-boy fries are taken out. The garlic-mayo-aoli was suitable. The lobster bisque was thick, buttery, garlicy, and lobstery and literally served in a small coffee cup. The Puff Pastry on top is useless unless stuffed in the bisque. My favorite thing? The toasted bread with goat cheese, roasted garlic, and sweet onions. Seriously. This was pretty much worth the trip and makes me want to imitate it at home. Fantastic. The cheese and onions work perfectly together. Try this at least. Finally, we finished off with the Creme Brulee for only $1.75, served in a tiny ramekin. This, I think now, with the bread and cheese is worth the dirtiness you feel from sitting in Touch's lounge.
HOWEVER. This is an awful place for a beer nerd. They have the typical, just above mediocre beer for a lousy $4.75: Peroni, Boulevard, Blue Moon, Guinness. That's way too much AND there is no happy hour special for beer. What the hell? That's beer discrimination man!
SO. If you are a wine or martini drinker, just coming off of a porno, or just getting into one, having a mid-life crisis, looking for a place to cruise for easy chicks while you and your friends from the office "kick it", or a very tacky, gaudy, interior design enthusiast, this place is for you! Or...if you can put up with this for some food that is well prepared and walks the line of classy, but just short of, pretentiously presented. I am actually interested in trying the prix fix dinner for $15.95, in the dinner side, where it is slightly less ridiculous. So it looks like I will go back...but only for the food.
Visited here on a recent trip to town for drinks with friends. Our drinks were good and I thought our waitress was good, so my review is more about the customer service.
At the end of the night, the bar started clearing out. I asked the waitress what time they closed. She said it varied depending on who was still there. We called a cab and had to wait a little bit so we paid our tab and finished our drink by the door to watch for the cab. The waitress and the bartender turned off all the lights and left us in the restaurant all alone (I am assuming they were in the office?) while we waited.
Seems a strange way to have customers leave your establishment. Both for your safety and theirs and the reputation of the restaurant.
I really like this place and have tried the Happy Hour 3 times. They offer food Happy Hour from 5-6pm, and drinks on HH from 5-7pm. Don't miss the Tuna Nachos, the individual fish taco, and the con queso dip with pita chips (nothing like you would imagine). We had the calamari on one visit and it was cool...the one downer. During the drink HH, they have half off all of their signature martinis and wines by the glass. Great service, and the chef, Mike, even came by our table on two different visits.
