I love this place. I came here a lot when I was a high school student in the area and I have fond memories here... from birthdays to just hanging out. I always got the chicken parm... And I still do! The chicken is rarely dry and I'm always pretty satisfied after having it. But, the other menu items have never really impressed me.
Review Source:I go to TPR a lot, and the experience can be pretty good if you know what you're ordering. The service has been pretty great so far and atmosphere is nice; the prices are very reasonable considering the portions.
The food is a little inconsistent though. I get the fried calamari a lot here and around half the time it comes out too tough or greasy. The buffalo wings also come out a little squishy sometimes.
The pastas on the other hand are definitely above average. Penne vodka, linguine, fettuccine alfredo, gnocchi are all very good. The pizzas here are good too; I recommend the BBQ chicken pizza--it's the only thing worth getting.
Personally, the one thing I avoid here are the seafood and steaks. I once tried the black angus shell steak and it was pretty disappointing and the salmon wasn't worth the money either.
Overall, it's an average Italian restaurant.
I love TPR!
If you want Italian food cooked by real Italians, go to TPR. The owners are very friendly and
will quickly remember you. The best waitress at TPR is Joy. She never gets anything wrong, knows what we want each time we eat there and just knows what she's doing. We also love Kelly and Sarah.
The food is amazing. Start with a Pasta e Fagioli soup. It's sooo good. All of TPR's pasta is great. My favorites: Rigatoni Bolognese with Ricotta Cheese and Penne a la Vodka. Try the calzone, it is not from this world. The pizza never disappoints. It's exactly what pizza should be like. Thin crust, but not to a point where you still feel hungry after having three slices, and just the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. TPR's Chicken Parm is insane! I love it. If you're trying to go healthy, get grilled chicken with veggies. Their grilled veggie platter is amazing. I could go on and on about how much I love pretty much everything on their menu.
The restaurant has a great size. We never came here and didn't get a table. It's the perfect place for everyone. Families, dinner with friends... Even though it's a great neighborhood restaurant, it doesn't look like one. It has lots of comfortable booths to sit in, but doesn't feel like a diner.
If the family is too lazy to leave the house, TPR is the place we always order take out from. It never takes longer than 25 minutes and the food tastes just as amazing at home. :-)
The food is terrible and the service is even worse.  We took the 4th grade Tenafly travel soccer team there after a game at 3:30 on a Sunday and they said that if the parents want to stay each parent needs to pay $12 per head.  There were two other people in the place.  Obviously we were all very taken back, the response from the manager was "I don't own this place just work here".  Bad attitude!  We explained  that we were all families from town and we did not appreciate the lack of respect that we were shown....  The response was "sorry"....  "$12 per head or pick up your kids later".  This was he worst display of service I have ever been exposed to and we called the holding company "Bensi" and they seemed to act as if this was not the first time that they have had such a complaint....  Seems consistent.  In additIon, before this experience we had ordered from there and the food was below average and they ALWAYS leave something out of the order.  This place is way below average in every way.  STAY AWAY!!!!!
Review Source:The food here was...reliable.
I've come here a few times, and not once have I left disappointed, but not once have I left happy. It's merely average Italian food.
So why did I give this place 4-stars? The price was great here, and the portions are large. Service is good and the free bread at the beginning was delicious. The atmosphere was also nice; I think they recently renovated. So, for what it lacks in food, it makes up in...everything else. It's a great restaurant minus the good food. Meh
I have returned here three times since my intial review was posted. All of which have floored me with the same excellent and friendly attentive natured service. The food is never lacking anything, and it is worth the trip and expense. Do stop here if in the general area because it is a perfect lunch and dinner place. My son and I ordered a baked ziti pizza at our last visit and also the veal francese, both were delicious and carried a great flavor. The Italian bread in the basket was remarkably crispy and crunchy. The time prior he ordered a baked ziti (penne) again and I went for the stuffed shells and that was delicious too! The time prior my son ordered linguine and I sampled their chicken parm. The results are accurate every visit and the overall experience brings us back for more!
Review Source:TPR is one of the most popular family style Italian restaurants in the area and it does a bustling take out business. Â Originally a small pizzeria a few doors down in the same strip mall in Tenafly, it took a larger space and became more upscale adding a real Italian restaurant to it's take out business. Â This became so successful that they took an additional space for more restaurant seating. Â This is a family owned establishment that has a 2nd generation (the original owners' children) expanding it into more similar restaurant/take out places elsewhere. Â If you want a nice casual place to go to for great Italian food where the service is attentive and everyone's smiling, go to TPR. Â You won't be disappointed. Â It can get very busy and they don't take reservations but everyone manages to get seated. Â Because it's in a strip mall, parking is never an issue too.
Review Source:I go to TPR once in a while because it is convenient and then I realize why I don't want to go there again. Tonight I ordered take out and they forgot to give me a part of my order. I realized this after picking up my order for a late night dinner with my family. After getting everyone together for dinner, I divvy up the food and realize one is missing. Not happy, because this is a hassle when I am looking forward to sitting down with the family. So I call up and get the girl who took my order and she puts me on hold for a while finally coming back to ask if I want to pick it up? I decide yes because delivery of the missing item could take a while so she says, "shouldn't take long, 10 mins." So I get there 15 mins thinking I want to make sure I can just go in and get out quickly. Â Of course she is gone and so is the manager and my missing food is not ready. Â The staff looks a bit confused as I have to explain again and they prep my meal as quickly as they can because they see I am upset. Â Of course, when I get home, I realize that they gave me the wrong replacement order again.
The attitude at this place is very callous and unappreciative. It's average italian food that can be found at other places, which for me, are a little bit less convenient, but I am going back to places like the Italian Connection, il Mulino, Brother's (all in Dumont) and Max's (Tenafly). These places appreciate their customers and I have never had problems with them.
I am going to restate what another reviewer mentioned. If you are ordering take out, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
People go here because it's the only game in town, and not because they have good food. The food is fine, not horrible, not spectacular. On takeouts, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR ORDER. It's wrong most of the time. The folks they have taking orders rarely care much about their job.
If you want decent pizza, order from Sub King on N. Washington Ave. in Bergenfield.
A great family restaurant where you will see your neighbors and other regulars.
I usually visit this place with my family and/or other families from the neighborhood. Â Good tasty Italian food and pizza. Â The price is good and the whole family enjoys it without breaking the bank.
A good place to have a casual meal while you are in town.
A full service Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria. Â I cannot really comment on the restaurant part since I have only had their pizza. Â My family stopped ordering pizza from those national chains such as Pizza Hut and Dominoes after we tried TPR pizza. Â Their pizza really reminded me of those classic pizzeria pizza I used to eat when growing up as a kid in New York City, nothing fancy, just delicious pizza. Â Prices are reasonable and they make the pizza right in front of you by the counter.
Review Source:This place is fantastic. Â My family always gets takeout from here and it's always delicious. Â Their eggplant parm has long been my favorite. Â We also like the chicken parm, veal marsala, and crabmeat stuffed shrimp. Â Everything comes with a side of pasta or salad. Â The side of spaghetti by itself is enough for a meal (and the tomato sauce is so good I have to sop it all up with bread), and the salad is my favorite restaurant salad anywhere. Â Would be five stars if their pizza were more my style, but this place is a real winner.
