I went here once as a freshman while I was at SJU. It was a frat party - should be enough said, but I'll elaborate. I was 18 at the time; didn't have a fake ID, and didn't have a problem getting in. I actually showed the bouncer my real ID that said I was 18, handed him my $10 cover, got my fluorescent wristband slapped on me and I was on my way to the never-ending-keg party upstairs. Crappy music, too many drunk frat guys and uninhibited sorority girls. The full bar is downstairs, complete with too many creepy middle-aged men buying tequila shots for jailbait. It wasn't my scene back then and it's definitely not my scene now. I'm sad to say this was one of my first college party experiences. So, unless you're underage and you don't have a fake ID to go anywhere in the city, skip Trads.
Review Source:Dexter, you're absolutely. I'm 99% sure that Greg on the bottom here is the current manager at Traditions.
This just goes out to show you how shady and untrustworthy this bar is. Ridiculously shamelessly self-promoting itself by pretending to be a customer and writing a false review. IF THAT'S NOT FALSE ADVERTISEMENT, then I don't know what is!!
As a matter of fact, most of the ex-regular customers have moved their spot to another bar on Parsons and Union. All they get are college kids who are nothing but trouble.
And MUSIC? You gotta dish out money from your own pocket just to add a little sound in the dead nights (trust me, there are many). Their jukebox aint cheap.
Well, Traditions, good luck with that. Count me out.
First off I want to say that this yelp page is a hot mess. Â Lets keep it real from a real yelper.
This place is ridiculous. Â The place should barely get half a star. Â I walked in on a freezing cold Friday night and from the looks of it, the place is half empty, or half full depends on how u look at life...but after walking in this old fashioned, ugly, and not enthusing bar, its half empty.
They tried to charge me $10 to get in and had bracelets if you paid the cover. Â WWAAAIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT---- a cover charge at a dingy bar in Queens?!? Â Was I drunk already? NO...its true.
This place tried to charge me a cover charge, FOR A BAR, IN QUEENS. Â I guess the owners of the place are out their mind, the just lost five customers who know how to drink because my friends and I walked right back out into the freezing cold to spend that $10 elsewhere. Â While we walked outside, I looked for the velvet ropes and red carpet, but I couldn't find it.
Needless to say, five minutes later we were nice and warm in a bar, that doesn't try to charge me cover.
ZERO STARS for taking advantage of college kids in the area who have nowhere else to go and pay the $10 cover...its unheard of for a bar to charge cover...SHAME ON YOU TRADITIONS SHAME ON YOU
(just a side note, my biggest pet peeves is cover charges, read my other reviews)
A tradition was formed between a friend and I when we started making it a habit to come here for Monday Night Football after work. Yeah, it's a college bar, but the crowd is thin on monday nights. In fact, the usual faces are local workers on monday nights.
We almost always get the combo basket each and a pitcher of Coors Light. You can't go wrong with a $5 pitcher of beer. The basket will run you around $7 but you get a loaded basket full of fried goodies (Onion Rings, Fries, Wings, Mozzarella Sticks & Chicken Fingers). Be sure to ask for the honey mustard and BBQ sauces.
They also have a pretty decent pair of pool tables in the back and a dartboard up front (they aren't scratched up or lopsided). The jukebox has a nice selection of songs but usually we're here for the game.
I hear Wednesdays are wild and their theme parties are usually pretty packed but I tend to avoid the hordes if I can.
I can't believe I am the first to review this place!
It was bumping when I got there.. Â I went to this place on a Saturday night. Â They have a nice downstairs bar (pretty crowded) with two pool tables. Â I wanted to play but I think its a little hard and local to get on the tables...
I paid 10$ for a cover and you get a few tickets for free drinks. Â There is a coat check. Â Nice dance floor, decent music and dj. Â This was a total college spot. Â At least the upstairs.
Downstairs was a little more diverse crowd.
Around 1 they taped our of beer upstairs which was a pain. Â They only served blue moon and coors light but they refilled within 20 minutes or so. Â
Overall pretty cool environment.
Lets be frank: Â Traditions is a college bar. Â However, its a college bar for a school that, as I had previously suspected, has no idea how to party.
Its a little dirty and dingy, but for a "college bar", its surprisingly not that bad. Â and it was nice going here and not seeing people puke in the corner or be outrageously drunk. Â Or doing shots they cant handle.
But wait? Arent all these kids under 22? Â Isnt that what these bars are supposed to be about? Â I expected this place to put OTW to shame in terms of drunk messes. Â Not at all.
ps- I was a bit perplexed that my blue moon had an inch & a half of foam. I know youre probably just a college girl making some side cash, but please learn how to pour.
