Trident is great. We've been coming here once a week for a few months now for Geeks Who Drink on Wednesdays. The servers have been consistently awesome every week! I totally agree that they have the best fish and chips in Tucson, but to mention the other food. It's nice that it is not all greasy bar food offerings- their salads are yummy too!
Review Source:Updating because I didn't give this place enough love in my previous review. Still our favorite sports bar in Tucson. Good service, good food, and unlike many places that claim to be sports bars, they are actually on top of the SPORTS aspect - like, they have the right games on, at the times they begin. They do a perfect job of knowing what the big games are and have them appropriately spaced on the numerous TVs in the place so that you can watch all of them from any seat in the place.
Wednesdays are all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs and they are YUMMY. But this is also an easy place to low-carb. No problem to get bunless burgers and green salad as a side. Good chef salads, too, really fresh ingredients in everything here.
They have happy hour with good deals, too. And also do a nice job recognizing their regulars, of which they have TONS. Great neighborhood sports bar and grill. Family friendly, too.
Trident has proved a reliable place to get a beer and some food. Their menu is pretty standard bar food, but what they do, they do well. Their fries, fried pickles, and Mac and cheese are seriously delicious. There are a few unexpected things on the menu, such as a long list of salads, Â an awesome caprese, and a cheese board I'd like to try at some point. The staff is friendly and the service is consistently good. It's a great place to play some trivia, catch a game, or simply get a drink with friends.
Review Source:I was surprised I liked Trident so much considering its a Seal bar and I'm an Army fan :) Love their all day happy hour on Sunday. Most 22oz draft beers are $3 during and they have some $3, $4 and $5 appetizers. The canteen is awesome... I love the horseradish dipping sauce! Their salads are really good as well. Every time I go I just end up getting a bunch of appetizers because there are so many tasty ones to choose from! Definitely a great menu, lots of drafts to choose from and a neat dive bar feel to it. Its a good place to go to before or after UA sporting events because you can walk to and from most of the games.
Review Source:This is the first new place I've been to in a while! Â Keto doesn't really allow me to try so many things :/
Went here for a going-away party for one of the guys in our lab. Â The atmosphere was fun and it was fairly packed. Â It wasn't really a major sports night, so the TV was filled with random snippets of golf and Nascar. Â I built my own (bunless) burger with bacon and avocado. Â It was actually fairly good, tasty and they gave me waaaay more avocado than any other place!! Â I was also pleasantly surprised by the variety of foods (the redskins looked delicious and I was a bit sad I couldn't eat any and they have seafood!) and drinks (another place with pear cider!) they have.
Service was meh. Â It was fairly busy, but I never once had my water refilled, and the waitress was definitely forgetful about a lot of things..
Trident Grill never fails. Great selection of beers on tap and a great happy hour that changes daily. All beers are $3 during happy hour, sweet deal! Beware that karaoke night can be loud and scary at times, but what karaoke isn't?
Their appetizers are enough to fill up the hungriest of appetites. I enjoy their chicken skewers served with a tasty peanut sauce! Also on the top of my list are the shrimp skewers and mac n cheese. Many of these (including the mac n cheese) are seasoned with Old Bay seasoning, I love it! My boyfriend enjoys the calamari. It's a basket big enough to share.
My favorite burger is the Chesapeake Bay. It comes prepared with melted Muenster cheese, grilled onions, and yup you guessed it- Old Bay Seasoning. Although it is a simple recipe, the burger is juicy and flavorful. If you are looking for a salad, try the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. It's not over dressed, which can kill a salad. It has just enough dressing. This big bowl will definitely fill you up!
The only downfall is that I miss the crab legs at Trident, they were the best in town! Give trident a shot, there is something here for everyone!
The Trident is a tried and true place, I had not been in a while and was pleased to see it had not changed. Â The service was good, the food was okay, not great but better than Denny's, but still no great shakes. Â The service was good and I like the fact that is your good old pub from the 80's. Â The booths are comfortable and you can have a conversation without shouting. Â My friend was very happy with her drinks, and that is what people go there for, and to feel relaxed. Â I will go back and bring friends.
Review Source:Dined at Trident after Beat Cancer Boot Camp did a workout in the surrounding area/complex. Â I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding grub! Â The fish and chips were super good, massive and the perfect dinner. Â Their coleslaw and fries were most excellent, too. I was highly intrigued by their menus (they have these cool, heavy metal menus that display the options for grub/drinks). Â This place is neat and I would go back. Â Not to mention it's right near campus so college kids- have some fun.
Review Source:I didn't go to the U of A, so naturally Trident hasn't always been on my radar, but my boyfriend urged us to come here to watch the game with some friends. I'm not sure if it's because I was starving after a major workout, but aside from our servers poor attitude, Trident was pretty much a home run or slam dunk, or what ever on this visit!
Cold as* Barrio Blonde hit the spot right away. Next, fried pickles. WOW. Best I've ever had: Pickle spears in a crispy and light batter, not greasy with a side of ranch. That's a legit bar snack.
Sliders: Um....probably the next best bar snack ever. Medium rare thinly sliced filet with horseradish aioli on teeny tiny buns. So unexpected and super tasty. I'd for sure order this again.
Build Your Own Burger: I went with a medium cooked burger with cheddar cheese, sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato and onion with a side of waffle fries. The burger was large and in charge and I ate it ALL BY MYSELF. I really can't complain. It was cooked to perfection and all the toppings were super fresh.
The Trident experience has room for improvement in the service department. I know this is a sports bar in the middle of the University area, but a mix of students (graduate and undergrad), young professionals and old peeps alike frequent this place and we're all spending money here, so smile at the door and smile while you're at work :)
If you're planning on catching a game here, get there early! The line gets long quickly and it's no fun being ignored at the door.
For a place overrun by whiny undergrads you would think that the prices would be a little lower.
We went to Trident to watch the divisional round NFL games and got there around 2pm. The crowd was definitely skewing older (late 20's+). We ordered drinks and food and received them pretty promptly. I was surprised that there were no drink specials but that was fine. Tried the clam chowder and the wings, both were fine. I thought the placement of the tv's was okay, difficult to see from some seats. Overall it was a very mediocre experience which is fine if thats the kind of day you are looking for. I love a good sports bar and was hoping that Trident would become my go to place. Around dinner time all the undergrads (and I am pretty sure an entire sorority) came rushing in. There was nowhere for servers to walk in parts of the restaurant and the constant squealing was a bit too much for me personally. I am sure it is great if you are newly 21 or a Redskins fan, but it just wasn't for me.
I have to say that while my experience overall was just ok, my server was great and it looked like service all around was great.
Upscale tavern with a tavern feel and a place where you know America will live. Â Trident is owned and operated by a retired Navy SEAL in the Tucson area. Â The bar has a lot of nautical themed decor and on the back wall is a picture of every SEAL that has died for our freedom during OIF/OEF/OND. Â Very patriotic and the staff is nice as well. Â There is a large open floor plan with tables, booths, bar tables, and a very nice bar with about 50 different beers on tap. Â Did I mention TV's? Â There are TV's everywhere showing every game on at the time.
I came in with my wife on a Monday night on a road trip back to Texas. Â What brought us to this place was the look on the outside. I am glad we stopped. Â The owner is from Maryland and there is east coast cuisine on the menu. Â Crab cakes, Maryland clam chowder in a bread bowl? Â You can't find east coast food that fresh anywhere on the west coast.
I ordered a MONSTER BBQ cheeseburger with crispy onion rings. Â When I say monster I mean these things were half pounders - easy. Â My wife had the crab cake burger with clam chowder. Â Fantastic meal. Â Also, on Monday night they have $2 drafts. Â It's a local University of Arizona bar as well. Â On that Monday night a bunch of students came in to take a break from studying for finals; rekindled the college memories.
All of you writing reviews should throw yourselves into a wood chipper if you don't give Trident 5 Stars.
Before I offer up my love to the owner for providing Arizona with one of the only Redskins bars in the state, I must preach the gospel of the glorious Clam Chowder Bread Bowl. Being born and raised in AZ but having parents and family from New England, I know my way around a fresh, authentic, steaming hot bowl of chowda. Trident is unmatched; eating the chowder was an understatement, I borderline inhaled it.
The icing on the cake; redskins bar. Enough said. Cowboys fan ARE NOT WELCOME.
....damn it feels good saying that.
HTTR!!!!
Oh, Trident - how I love your intimate neighborhood-bar feel, friendly bartenders, and college memories.
I love the place - but really, it's a bar. It's near the UofA so you'll get your mix of college students and regulars. I recommend going if you're looking for a chiller option than downtown or 4th ave and are in the area.
Trident is one of my favorite bars in Tucson. It is always busy but never overpacked, the atmosphere is perfect. The bartenders are among the best in town and you will surely have a great time here. The food is also very good, they have so many different options on the regular and happy hour menu and I have never been disappointed. Happy Hour is 4-7PM, $3 drafts!
Review Source:My number one pet peeve at restaurants is when the server is constantly coming up during the meal saying, "how's everything tasting?" or "how are we doin' over here?" Â You know....almost every five bites they come up to you after you have just taken a big bite of sandwich? Â So the servers at Trident are really friendly and never ever irritating! Â They care if you like your food, but they're chill as opposed to some other places where I feel like they really really REALLY want me to know that the taste of my sandwich is the most important thing.
Which by the way, my sandwiches are pretty important. Â Because they're so delicious. Â We stopped going to Bob Dobb's because my friend always got a burger and it was half the size of the bun. Â I like the size of his burger at Trident so this is our new post house work lunch spot.
Also, I went here for drinks one night and it was packed and tons of fun. Â
They have several televisions for sports viewing. Â I only wish they had outdoor seating.
Trident hit the trifecta for me on this visit:
Cold beer.
The best fish and chips in Tucson.
Super service even though the place was PACKED with all kinds of crazy fans like me gearing up to head to Arizona Stadium to cheer on the Cats.
Just when I thought finding good fish and chips in Tucson was like finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn, Trident makes a believer out of me.
Friday night was my second time at Trident. I think I'll give it one more go. I got a veggie burger my first visit and would be willing to try it again, but it wasn't particularly memorable - but they do get credit for having it as an option. Last night I tried the rueben and and was pretty fantastic. I do love the waffle fries. Our waitress last night wasn't great - friendly - but service was slow and a couple of us were given someone else at the table's drink - she did remove it from the tab, so that was appreciated.
Review Source:One of the best Bars in town! Â I don't think I've ever met anyone who hasn't liked Trident!
Great location and close to the UofA. Â During the school year you get a ton of College kids, but there is still a great mix of people that end up at Trident. Â Fun atmosphere.
You can purchase your own stein, leave it at the bar, and drink from it every time you are there! Â :)
I went here for an early dinner and ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The overall quality of the burger was just adequate. It tasted OK, kind of on the bland side. It definitely needed to be seasoned more. It was adequate through and through, but not excellent. The portion size was decent, but the burger itself was nothing special. The bacon consisted of two very thin strips of bacon that was a little overcooked. For a side I chose the Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was very crispy but was very bland and lacking in any form of seasonings.
The service was excellent. The waitress checked up on us very frequently, was quick with refills, and was readily available when we needed her. She did an excellent job of taking care of us.
As for food options, they had a very limited menu. The menu consisted of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. I would have liked to have seen more options on the menu.
Overall impression: It was a little overpriced considering the quality of the food. It was just an adequate establishment. It wasn't bad food, but it wasn't good either.
Ahhhh Trident. If there is a better place for happy hour in Tucson I don't want to know about it. It has to be one of the friendliest bars to sit at in Tucson. I cant recall the number of times I have grabbed a bar stool and immediately been included in the conversation by complete strangers and their awesome bar tenders. In fact when the bar is full it can often be engaged in one giant conversation the entire length of it.
The food is good bar food. I like the burgers and their wings the best but I am resolved to try the fish and chips soon as I hear great things. I have NEVER had an error in my food service while dinning there. Lots of good beers at good prices on tap. Variety of beers as well, not just IPA and lagers.
Sometimes the table service can be lacking but not often.
I've been in love with this place for years. Haven't been in for a while and was afraid they had updated their menu. But they hadn't. I had my all time fave, peel-n-eat shrimp steamed in Old Bay with a side salad. Washed down with a Black n Tan.
The service was quick, friendly and efficient.
Hard to say which was worse--the food, or the sullen and dismissive attitude the "manager" took in response (in contrast, the waitstaff was great and docked something from the tab).
This was on a recent Saturday at mid-afternoon; 15 people in the place, half of whom were our party, ages 11 up to 60. We ordered fairly basic "comfort food" things having scoped out the place on yelp.
I was ill for two days from an under-cooked hamburger, for which I take some responsibility, having ordered it "rare," and not troubling to send it back. So I give them some benefit of the doubt on that one.
Everyone's  lettuce was old and brown, and the other salad components were tasteless. (The manager, who must be more accustomed to dealing with people who are absolutely blotto, insisted everything was fresh.)  Chicken "tenders" were anything but (judges including 16 and 18 year-olds).  Ditto for almost everything ordered by the seven of us.  The mac and cheese and waffle fries, on the other hand, got thumbs-up; and, we managed to enjoy one another's company.
From some reviews, it is clear the food, company and dreary "sea" decor have a hard-core following. Include me out.
This is closer to four stars. Â When I eat a full meal, I will re-review.
We went in for Happy Hour. Â They have an amazing happy hour. Â $2.50 drafts. Â Awesome. Â
They also have select amount of appetizers for $5. Â We tried the wings, the canteen, and the calamari. Â The wings were good, decent size. Â The canteen is filet on bread with a horseradish sauce. Â The filet was cooked as asked, but the bites were put into a large amount of bread. Â Too much bread. Â But the horseradish sauce made up for it. Â That was delish. Â The calamari were good as well. Â The breading was surprisingly light, and they were not over cooked.
I will probably be returning.
Trident Grill is the best place to go for a burger in the University area.
There are many different burgers on the menu to chose from, and they have no problem accommodating to your preferences pertaining to adding or subtracting items on their sandwiches. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is good for watching games at, as they have many TV's around the place.
For weekends, particularly Friday nights, this place turns into a pretty fun college bar. They run karaoke all night long, which is pretty entertaining. Check it out.
I haven't been here in a LONG time - but one thing's for sure, the crown molding is still immaculate.
It was weird, I felt for a moment like I was in Flagstaff hanging out with a bunch of lumberjacks when I was in here - because everyone had a beard! The Trident is the weapon of Poseidon, so I guess it seemed right because everyone in there was drinking like a fish! BA-ZING!
Purchased a round of drinks for my friends, and gave the bar tender (nice guy) a double take when he told me how cheap it was, incredible. Pool table, many beers on tap, and bearded men and women, this place rules.
This is strictly a bar review-- I've yet to sample food here. Â If you are a Redskins fan, you will feel very welcome here! Â
My classmates and I frequent Trident weekly after class. Â A robust selection of beers on tap and mixed drinks is sure to please everyone. Â The friendly bartender remembers our names, our drink preferences, and always possesses a goofy joke to entertain us with. Â The atmosphere is a little less "collegey", but still offers cheap drinks like the rest of bars near campus.
They have changed and updated their menu  which is for the better.
They have gotten rid of their "fancy" dinners and are sticking to regular bar food.
I was happy to see that they added to appetizers, sandwiches and sides.
We decided to try the fried pickles to see if they could get it right. I must say I love the batter that they fry the pickles in. It is crunchy and tasty. I am used to having the pickles sliced into round but they slice the pickles long ways which is fine. They have a delicious crunch and flavor! They have also added steamed mussels and clams, as well as, clam strips, mac and cheese and waffle fries to their appetizer menu.
For dinner I tried the philly cheesesteak and my bff had the green chili turkey melt. Both of these entrees are new and both were very good. Now you can choose different sides with your meal which include the new waffle fries and mac and cheese and other for no additional cost. That is very cool.
Service is the same but the menu has improved a bit.
Nautical theme in a landlocked state? Â Check.
Battleship grey bathrooms that make you feel like you're peeing in a submarine engine room? Â Check.
Ineptly mixed drinks with tons of booze in them? Check.
The Trident is just fine. Â I always wonder why someone would become a regular there, as the place seems kind of homogenous, but it's harmless enough.
The wall decorations are "clever"/"vintage" hangings from Target and Walmart, and the naval accoutrements are cheesier than Velveeta, but the place is completely innocuous.
The staff seems to be comprised exclusively of nubile, often tattooed, ditzy coeds. Â I'm not sure if leggings and midriff-baring tank-tops are an employment prerequisite, but that seems to be the server dress code. Â I guess I can't complain, but I've also never had a server or bartender there who seemed to know a beer from a side of cole slaw.
Like I said before, drinks are STIFF, which is always a plus, but they are never prepared especially well. Â I had a tumbler-sized "old fashioned" today, for example, that consisted of probably four fingers of bourbon, a squirt of coke (eep!), an ungodly amount of bitters, a maraschino cherry that looked like it had been masticated by a herd of billy goats, and a couple of squirts of soda water. Â To be fair, I think my grandfather was probably the last person who drank old fashioneds with any frequency, and the bartender admitted that she had probably jacked up the drink, as no one ever orders them. Â I can't complain about cheap booze, but the drink was still a rude awakening.
I will say this, the place makes exceptional pub food. Â The burgers always satisfy and never feel like they were made in a bar (I guess my excellent yelpfriend, Brooke and I can't agree about everything). Â The hot wings are of middling heat and taste like they were simply drowning in Frank's Red Hot, but they're still pretty tasty.
Â
All in all, this is a fun place to come for a happy hour at the end of a long week. Â The booze is plentiful, the drinks are reasonably inexpensive, and by the time my food arrives, it probably tastes significantly better than it would have, if I hadn't already downed a couple of cocktails. Â Be warned, however, this place is super loud. Â I think the building must have been designed by an architect who had just gotten fired from a gig as a music stadium planner, because the place feels like fight night, even when it is almost deserted.
The Wildcat Burger has all the ingredients necessary for me to order it. Â BBQ sauce, onion rings, cheese, bacon. Â You'd think that with so many greasy add-ins one wouldn't be able to determine if this was good or bad. Â But that's where you're wrong. Â This burger is not good.
They have clam chowder in a bread bowl. Â This is their best item, and it's not even that great.
Good location. Â Sorority girls can bar hop between this and Dirtbags and not have to pay for a cab.
Trident has a nice selection of drafts on tap and domestic/import bottle beer. Its a great place to go to happy hour after work. Sometimes parking can be difficult though. The service is good and if you are hungry they have great appetizers, salads, burgers/sandwiches. I especially like their ruben.
They have a pool table and quite a few flat screens always tuned to sporting events. I've never been to trident other than Happy Hour, so I've not seen the college kids their like the reviewer Erika mentioned. I highly recommended it for happy hour though!
OK, since I spent a large part of my college career living near by, and having the good fortune of being friends with most of the bartenders/servers, guess what. Â I love this place. Â The drinks were always strong, the music, although predictable, was fun to sing along to, and karaoke night was highly entertaining. Â
This place is definitely a frat-tastic bar. Â 95% of the guys in here are in a frat, and the other 5% is the lacrosse team, so there is lots of "bro-ing" going on. Â I could go in here looking scrubby or dressed up, it never really mattered. Â I always had fun.
All in all, minus one star for the fact that its a Greek All-Star bar, but other than that, I am pretty pumped on going back for homecoming.
