Umi Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar

My friends and I make a trip to UMI whenever we are all in Springfield.  Half our crew gets Sushi, the other half cooked food lol.  The portion sizes are good and the atmosphere is great.... Their birthday song is embarrassing too!!!

The sushi is pretty decent, nothing spectacular. Service is awful....

I have visited Umi with friends and family several times.  We love sushi and Japanese food in general.

Overall, I though the food quality was OK but my family and I felt it was overpriced.  I think they need to kick it up a notch with their recipes and offer something worth the high prices they are charging.  The portions are small and the sushi tasted different than other places.  I was unsure if it was the type of fish, the sauce, or the freshness of it that made a difference.  I offer my humble opinion based on my experience with over a dozen other sushi places in Western Mass.

I have not tried the hibachi but I am sure it is worth trying.  Food shared with friends around a hot hibachi table is always fun!
