Well mmph, after reading some of the other reviews I guess I'm glad that Uncle E's has caught me on a good night.  I've been there recently for some raucously dramatic make-out-like-high-schoolers lesbian drama on karaoke night and the next night caught a drag show with some co-workers of my bff's husband.  The two nights couldn't have been more different but I had a blast both times so I will admit that that is coloring this review.  That said I have had some stank drama there but honestly for what glbt bar is drama *not* the operative goal? Their drinks are off the chain cray-cray strong.  Their bartenders are saucy and sassy, some sexy and others snooty but altogether I've managed to stay off their radar, which is to say; avoided their hitlist by steering well  clear of the drama, tipping well and simply letting my own Diva flash just a teensy bit to delight but not intimidate. So far as the decor...well...I'm thinking 'Gay Bar Monthly' is prolly not going to come knocking soon but i haven't noticed the place *actively* falling down and I think that stall door in the women's restroom that was being to held together with a bungee cord has been fixed so I'd go so far as to say that they've been making 'improvements'.  But that is really all the far I'd go because after that I'd need to rest because coming up with just the right feel between "I don't hate it...that much....anymore." and "If there were any other place;( even 'that  guy's basement who was pretty kewl that my cousin knows from school), I'd most assuredly would go there and not here." has really worn me out.
Review Source:I used to live in Bloomington and Bulwinkles was Studio 54 in comparison. This place is NASTY.
And it's so irresponsible to put a bar so far out that you have to drive too. If it were in town the people on the outskirts could take a bus... but then again like I said NASTY... why go? I wanted to puke the moment I walked in. I've worked in cleaner sex clubs.
Sad, sad, sad-----Bloomington's queer community and not-so-queer deserve a better place than this. The old  doublewide and the location were  great, the strip mall is just depressing. I went three times to the new E's, once just to hang, but the vibe was so unfriendly I left after downing my watered-down G&T .  The second time I went to see West End Girls, who are fabulous, and for a moment I forgot how awful the place is.  The third time I went to see a male friend pole dance. His act was the bomb, but the place was still as depressing as ever.
And while I agree the place is "unassuming" and "unpretentious," there's no charm or character here any more. Â Lame energy, etc.
Any entrepreneurs out there?
(And, yes, I came here years ago from SF, so I know my standards may be high, but really . . . . . . )
