We were happy with Union Jacks until they hired an Executive Chef that changed the menu of the five locations. Â The new menu is geared to please vegetarians, those allergic to wheat products, and the like. Â For us it's gone down hill and no matter what they claim about the gearing toward those with dietary choices or allergies this menu change was to save them money.
Review Source:Came here a while ago for happy hour but traffic was a total bitch that day so by the time we got there, my cousin and I were both starving and ordered dinner, too. I remember their mixed drink menu being pretty small, but that whatever I got was good and strong. I had the fish and chips for dinner and the portion was giant and didn't disappoint.
Having been to this location when it was a That's Amore, Union Jack's has completely redone the space and it looks really nice and (obviously) British inside. It wasn't crowded at all when we were in there, despite seeing like 83568094 septuagenarians walk in right before us. Not sure where they went either, since they were nowhere to be seen when we got in. Our waitress was nice and service was both polite and quick.
I imagine I'd like this place a little less on a crowded weekend night, but, for a weekday dinner/happy hour, it was a good choice.
Beware of Union Jack's "power hour".
Went there on a Friday night for a friend's birthday and decided to get a bunch of drinks during "power hour" because they are only $1.
Here's the description from UJ's website.
"It gets EVEN BETTER,..... enjoy POWER HOUR from 10pm-11pm where we let the gates down and offer *ANYTHING at the bar for just a $1 for this 1 hour window!!
*excludes top shelf items"
Now, normally this would be fine. Because everywhere else in the world, drinks are made with lower quality liquors unless specified. But, not here... Oh no, they expect you to say "make it with rail so it's $1" otherwise they pour the most expensive stuff in the glass.
Long story short, walked in and expected to pay around $15 and ended up walking out $90 emptier. Bartenders couldn't care less, I would imagine that they get paid a much higher hourly to promote this scam because no one would ever tip a bartender for this kind of service. Never again.
