Verizon Wireless Amphitheater might be the worst venue in town to see a concert.
And it's not just because it's outdoors. Â I've been to other venues that accomplish great sound and visuals outside, and VWA does very little for its patrons and quite often give a poor show quality.
First, all the crazy rules and restriction make for a lousy evening and an even lousier day if attending a festival. Â We've already paid the inflated ticket price and the service fees. Â Can't we bring in some essential items for survival? Â Instead, patrons are forced to buy overpriced hot dogs and soda/water on long festival days. Â And don't get me started on the beer! Â When we went to ZZ Top on Saturday, my father was kind enough to point out that I could have bought a twelve pack of Bud for the price of my one draft beer. Â Thanks, Pops!
Maybe I'm being unfair. Â Sure, Busch, Edward Jones, and Scottrade have inflated prices on food and drink, but where's the incentive to support VWA? Â Aside from an uncomfortable evening where we are corralled like cattle and then spend half the night trying to escape! Â The parking lot needs more attendants. Â I sat in a line that didn't move for several minutes the other night and ended up leaving through a way that could have been pointed out by someone if an attendee was working the lot.
I dread the amphitheater, and the only reason that I go there is because someone suckered me into attending something that I didn't want to see in the first place. Â The shows that I really want to see are ones I can't afford. Â I've been once all four seasons since I moved back to St. Louis, and an ideal summer would be spent nowhere near Verizon Wireless.
I will say that ZZ Top was awesome. Â Haven't seen them since 1994. Â Great show!
I have been seeing concerts here since it was Riverport, and to this day i still cannot enjoy this venue. Â I have never liked seeing shows here, I only choose to go since its the choice of the promoter to bring the band here,
I feel their prices are way too high, for the quality you get, the sound is awful, the seating is even worse, and the biggest beef I have with this venue is that the roof doesn't cover the complete seated area like it should.
Being I'm new to the STL everything I do is a first and the concert tonight at Verizon was no different. Â I was actually shocked at just how easy it was to get to the concert venue and how close it is to the highway! Getting in and out was a breeze! I assume the chance of rain had something to do with it, but I got there late (right on time) and left before the final song (again right on time haha), but I didn't have to sit in stand still traffic at all! The only down fall I'd say is that if you're like me you enjoy listening to the last song or two as you make your way to the car...I had to really strain to hear what song was being played and even then I could barely make it out. It's definitely not the best venue I've ever been to BUT it's far from the worst.
