This is a nice spot to finish your evening (or to watch the sun set).  It's not my favorite place to go in the city, but it's still enjoyable because of the really awesome views.

It can be difficult to find a place to sit on weekends, and the place is really funnily configured so there are hidden nooks you might not even expect to find a table....but keep looking and eventually you'll be able to set up camp.

Service can sometimes be a little snooty.  Or maybe not snooty but aloof?  I guess that's to be expected when the clientele is mostly passers-through and tourists....people they'll likely never see again.

The wine list is alright (I expect better from a lounge so close to Napa, come on guys) and the cocktail list is a lot of fun.  Snacks are good as well, and there's a fair variety to choose from.

Bathroom is kinda janky but it's a heavily-trafficked hotel bar so that's par for the course.

    Consider this 3.5 stars.

Yes, the view is amazing! The drinks are strong and the service is great. The food is pretty terrible and the prices are sky high. Still, this is a must for both tourists and locals alike.

Indeed came here for the view. Anything place high is good in my book. Drink is pricey but you are here for the view. Seating is first come first serve.

Great view, but open seating...the side facing the Bay Bridge and Financial District is much nicer than the other.

This city has some particularly gorgeous views, and the View has one of the best, but I only seem to end up here with tourist friends, so that should tell you enough. The crowd is way older, the service is nice but slow, and the drinks are overpriced.

When your Mom is in town, she'll love it. Otherwise, unless it's your friend's first time in San Francisco, you can do better. Try the Starlight Room at the Sir Francis Drake.

I went to The View for a VIP dinner earlier this week. It was awesome! They reserved the left side of the bar for the event but it looks like on a normal business day the entire space would be open without a fee to get inside.

The dinner/ appetizer setup was really pretty and the food that I tried was delicious. I really liked that they labeled all the food options too. I tired the Vietnamese spring rolls, chicken skewers, crab cakes and a blueberry lemon dessert. The spring rolls were kind of dry and the skewers were just okay. They skewered were covered with peanut sauce and I'm not a huge fan of that. Not impressed. The crab cakes were awesome and so was the blueberry lemon dessert though! It was quite tart.

The view from The View was spectacular! The clouds were rolling in and the sun was just on it's way down. I would have stayed all night had the place not gotten so crowded because of the event.

One on my favorite spots in the city with a cool view. Whenever I have visitors, I always bring them over because of the view. Lots of tourist but you can't be surprised as this place is in the heart of SF. Good for a date night.

Whenever I'm downtown and can't decide where to go, I somehow always end up at the View. Its a lovely place, great ambiance, and of course a beautiful city view. However, I'll be honest, service is sub par here. Although they're courteous, servers are really slow. The food is OK, but not worth what they charge. Drinks tend to be either too strong, or too watery. I have yet to get a good mixed drink here.

But somehow I keep coming back....all because of the view

Am I the only one who thinks this place sooks deeq?

Does The View have a view? Yes. It's nice. That's it.
I was sitting in the middle drinking mediocre drinks, and listening to an air conditioning system rattle.
The seats were old, the decor was painfully dated, and their tables were dirty and no one came to clean up drinks and plates.
    Meep.

You go here for the view. As the name belies. The drinks are not amazing. There are tons of great cocktail places in the city if that's what you're after.

You come here to be way up high in the sky, looking out over the bay. It's almost a little scary when you're right up against the glass. Kind of exhilerating.

If you have friends from out of town, and they've already been to top of the mark, come here. It's less pretentious, the service is faster, and you're really close to MoMa (if you want to round out your touristy activities).  If you want a really cool cocktail afterwards, you can always head over to Local Edition. Or grab some interesting wine at Press Club.

On the 39th floor of the Marriott, The View offers a stunning view of the city of San Francisco.  After you exit the elevators, on both the left and right hallways will lead you to a large open area with large windows that shows you the view of city.  It's more visually stunning at night with all the tall buildings and bright lights.

As for the bar, well that's a different story.  The prices are higher than the norm and the drinks aren't of the quality of high end bars like Gitane or Rickhouse.  What you probably will buy here are whiskey neat and shots of vodka.  Alternative is to buy a glass of wine but I'm not a wine expert so I can't comment on their selection.

This is one of my favorite places in San Francisco, nay, in the whole wide world!  Floor to ceiling windows offer breath-taking views of the City of Lights.  Stiff but yummy cocktails, dimly lit lounge, and cozy tables offer the perfect make-out spot on a foggy evening. Delicious offerings on the menu means you can come here as early as 7 and not have to drag yourself away until 1:00AM.  A must-see for tourists with sophisticated tastes.

This spot was really surprising as I hadn't known about it before but I was really happy with the choice. The view is amazing (but the drinks are pricey) -- I would definitely recommend just checking it out for that alone especially since it leans toward the quiet side.

    Tourist spot.

We pretty much showed up and enjoyed the free view of the city.  No fee to get inside.

It's hard to get a table by the window but there are lots of tables around.

One of the best nights I've had in SF thanks to The View.

AMAZING Views of the city (in my opinion, better than Top of the Mark)
    Dimly lit setting.
Cute nooks with tables snugged in between.

I will definitely be coming back here!

This is a must for any locals or tourists. I have a conference every year at the Moscone Center and I always come up here afterwards with clients and business associates for the enticing view of SF. Be sure to get there before sundown to grab a table or lounge seating as it gets crowded. Not sure how it is on the weekends but I'm usually here on weekdays so the demographic can vary from low 30 to 50 year old yuppies.

Last time I came my manager was pleased with his Mojito. They had muddled in a fresh sprig of mint and wasn't watered down or too carbonated like most. The following night I took a friend that had just moved there from VA and enjoyed an apple martini, couple glasses of scotch and  a whisky. A little pricey but it's normal for a SF lounge. Both of them enjoyed the drinks and were pleased with the service.

If you're trying to get laid in San Francisco, you could do worse than taking your significant other to The View.  Appropriately named, this bar/lounge is at the top of the Marriott Marquis and is literally floor to ceiling windows with a 360 degree view of the city.  It's suuuper dimly lit, has nice comfy chairs, and a very intimate vibe.  The only thing spoiling it are the people and children running all over the place taking in the views (which, I admit, when we first got up there, was us).

They have a small food menu, mostly little appetizery things, and a full bar with some signature drinks.  The food we had (a trio of dips - hummus, tapenade, and baba ganoush) was really tasty, and we further ruined the classy vibe here by basically licking the things clean (I dropped the bowl on the table, oops) and wearing t-shirts and jeans.

Really, the only thing that keeps this from being a must-visit is the price.  It's expensive.  Flat out expensive.  Not a little pricy.  Not a tid bit much.  Ex.pen.sive.  Think of a fair price for a drink and double it, and you're probably about right on the prices here.

That said, as time goes on, I remember less of the sticker shock and more of the peaceful, amazing views that we sat and looked out on while sipping our drinks.

Looking for an awesome place to have a drink  in San Francisco that has a great view of the city and the bridges?  Then you must stop by the View on top of the San Francisco Marquis Marriott.  This place is a nice spot to sit and sip on your favorite cocktail while admiring the view of the city.  If you come at night, you can watch the Bay Bridge light show that occurs nightly for the next two years.

Drinks can be a little pricey like $14 and up, but I guess it is because you are paying for the view.  Also, it get's pretty busy here at night (believe it or not).  I have been coming here for the last couple of years when I come up to the city  and I always thought it was a place where older people came to have drinks, but to my surprise lots of younger people, such as myself come here too. :D

Service can be spotty at times as they can be understaffed when it is completely busy.  But like I said, if you want an awesome view of the city, this is definitely the place to be!  :)

This lounge as some of the best views of SF! If you get there in the afternoon (it opens at 4 pm) it's not as crowded and you can really walk all around and take in the views or take pictures. When you come later at night (10 pm and on) it gets really crowded and very hard to find a table. Kinda need to squeeze your way in and awkwardly hover until someone leaves.

I came here with the bf and we got 2 drinks (a little pricey, but still on par with normal SF drink prices). We finished them fairly quickly but our server never came back to give us a bill. After waiting for 45 mins, we decided to get up and find him instead only to have him rush towards us and condescendingly tell us that we shouldn't be running out on our bill...It was busy and maybe he didn't want to rush us but we could've been spared the speech. Service aside, the drinks were delish and the views were amazing.

Here's a kind-of-funny story from a few years ago. I was staying at the hotel for a conference. Went with work people the next day for Napa wine tours. Bought a bottle of Chandon. That night wanted to drink it while looking out over San Fran. Snuck the bottle on ice upstairs and found a table mostly hidden by a pillar. Had appetizers and drank pretty good 'champagne' and had a great view.

(would have been a better story, but not a Yelp story, if I had the $$ to have a suite on the very top floor of the hotel that had my own great view).

Once thing I like about this place. Not impossible to get into.

One of my favorite places in the city.

As everyone already mentioned, it's perfect for a date. I took my boyfriend here after a lovely dinner at Amber's and a movie. It was definitely the cherry to the top of a perfect date night.

But aside from date nights, this is an amazing place to escape to. I like to go here when I don't want to be seen. Sometimes you just need to get away, you know? The view is so serene and I love enjoying my alone time overlooking the concrete jungle. If I still worked downtown I'd probably be here almost every night.

The views are amazing from here. The drinks are a bit pricey and there's no happy hour special. I ended up getting a $7 non-alcoholic drink. It was tasty but a little bit on the higher side for me.

If you want to see a lovely view though, you definitely want to stop here. You can get some pretty awesome photos.

It's pretty quiet if you get here around 4pm when it opens so if you're looking for a convenient place to catch up with friends this would be it. Not sure if I'd go here all the time though.

Absolutely stunning view of SF. If you're looking for a romantic place to impress your date look no further. This is by far the best lounge to go to for an intimate evening with that special someone. The entire place is very dim, each table being mostly lit by the candles and the city itself.

I took my date here at night around 9pm and we found a table with a decent view, the best ones have a beautiful birdseye view of the bridge. The drinks and food are expensive, but for this ambiance you have no right to complain. I stuck with my usual hennessy and coke, and got the sliders as well. The food was delicious, and the service was just right, our waitress came at the perfect moments when we needed her. This is the kind of place you want to relax, talk, and soak in. It was a great experience.

Parking may be hard to find, but if your fancy enough they have valet parking which I recommend you take advantage of.

No words can really explain how breathtaking it is watching the city dance at night, but "the view" paints a pretty darn good picture.

This is the type of place where you bust out your smart phone and start taking pics to upload on instagram/facebook/twitter to show everyone and their mother how gorgeous a birds eye view of SF can be.

Located close to the Powell bart, this lounge is easily accessible. Best time would be right before sunset (so you can claim a spot by the windows). On one side you get a view of SoMa and the buildings, with a peek at the Bay Bridge. On the other side, you get a view of Bernal Heights with a peek of the Golden Gate Bridge behind some buildings off in the distance. Oh and you can see city hall too!

    THE FOOD:
Tacos- delicious! I liked that the taco shell was crunch but not overly fried- soft crunchy. Great as an appetizer.

Mac & Cheese- I don't usually like mac & cheese but this dish was well done. The cheese is creamy and mild- so those who don't like cheese can enjoy it too.

    Fried rice- pretty good!

    DRINKS:
Oh my goodness, the drinks are STRONG STRONG STRONG. Make sure you eat before you drink!

Minus one star only because drinks are on the pricey side (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-view-san-francisco-2?select=EDsKd-2_nLKtccXs5nob0w#KAKuWDSHiBuRfxr84eSuIw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>), but in every other aspect, The View is a five star establishment.

Stunning, sweeping views of The City, delicious cocktails, and attentive service. Lora M and I decided on the tequila based Nuestra Palomas (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-view-san-francisco-2?select=EDsKd-2_nLKtccXs5nob0w#FKyiO4eY2Z0wk9ENSQUmHA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) and oowee these drinks are stiff, but tasty! One should do ya for the night. They also have a few flat screens scattered about for all of you sports fiends out there; I know I appreciated it.

All in all, I would definitely come back for another girl's night of juicy gossip.... or with a date ---- If I ever went on any LOL!

Joking aside, it's pretty classy. And a great place to unwind. Hopefully, the next time I stop by, I'll be lucky enough to grab a window seat!

Bland suburban bar trapped in downtown San Francisco highrise!

Come on Marriott! You have a 39th floor lounge with million dollar views and you decorate and outfit it like it was in some suburban Marriott Courtyard or Residence Inn. Your patrons deserve more than the cheapest of wall paper, standard fixtures, hotel conference room carpeting, dated furniture and 1980s architectural details for their $16 cocktail.

You have a potential San Francisco landmark and hot spot under your purview and you are sadly wasting it. Hire a star designer and take your lounge to the next level like Philippe Starck did with the Redwood Room. Glam it up and give us a landmark destination venue!

We had a nice cocktail on a beautiful late afternoon overlooking the bay. Wait staff was attentive, but no one seemed to be helping seat patrons. People were left to their own devices to drag tables together and find adequate seating.

    Spectacular view!

One of my friends was staying at this hotel and suggested we all meet up for drinks at The View lounge. Fortunately, he was able to snag a couch right in front of  one of the 2 giant windows. HOLY GUACAMOLE!!

The view on both ends of the lounge is stunning! You can even see Yelp headquarters! I was so distracted that it took me a minute to focus on ordering a drink. Heads up on the drinks here....they kinda pricey, (My wallet cringed.) BUT....our awesome waitress suggested that my gf and I order the cosmo martini because it was the most potent for the $$. It's actually a double. SOLD!

We ordered our round, cheered to meeting up in the best city evar and sipped our drinks. WOW...she wasn't lying about that martini. Super super smooth but mostly alcohol. 1/2 way through the cocktail I was feeling pretty good. (And we still had a full nite of drinking ahead of us T__T)

After a brief photo-shoot in front of the windows/view, we peaced out.

This place is AH-MEEEZING! I will definitely make it a point to bring extra $$ to come back and and lounge it up here for a longer amount of time.

Well A. The name speaks for itself - the view from the top is gorgeous! It was a misty Thursday night and a bit chilly near the windows, but such a relaxing and enjoyable time.

We had a great server who recommended the Russian River Pinot Noir, and it was delicious! Her excitement about the wine convinced me to order it, and I was not disappointed.

Great date night place, or a good break from your work trip if you're staying at The Marriot

I've been here twice so far both on a Friday night. There's always people sitting by the windows so you may need to circle around to find a seat with the view. I was lucky enough to get a seat by the window each time.

This is a really romantic place to bring a date for a drink. It's dark by the windows and you have a candle on your table for light. The waiter comes by often to see if you want any drinks so no need to wait at the bar.

I've only had Scotch each time I've been here, so it can be pretty pricey. They give a decent amount of whiskey in the glass though. There's a lot of fancy Scotches here that I haven't had before.

Overall, this is a pricey place just for drinks but the fancy whiskey and romantic setting and great view makes this place pretty awesome.

    Pros:
    - Great view of the City
    - Romantic, dark setting
    - Good whiskey selection
    - Friendly waiters

    Cons:
    - Pricey

Bombay Sapphire gin martini.  Olives please, because I need to have dinner.

Now I know why it's called what it's called. Sweet rollerblading Jesus, the view's spectacular; even on a dark, dreary, rainy evening at 7:00pm! Every table in the place has a grand view of the windows overlooking the city.

Though I warn you: if you're here at night, it's pretty dark in here. Like, I-can-hardly-see-this-damned-menu-let's-use-our-phones-as-a-flashlight kinda dark.

    EATS
+The View trio: hummus (smokey, not at all good; we barely touched it), babaghanoush (a bit bitter, but a bit more palatable than the hummus), tomato olive relish (I held back from licking the bowl clean) served with triangles of pita bread.
+Local artisan cheese plate: a ramekin of honey, marcona almonds, dried apricot and figs, crackers, and a selection of cheeses that were never clarified (I believe only one was goat cheese [a blue cheese], and the rest were hard, cow cheeses).
+Antipasti platter: a mound of (what seemed like) a salami-prosciutto combination (again, never clarified), burrata (super-creamy mozzarella), peppadew peppers (the sweet vinegary ones), pitted olives in a pool of its oil, and crackers.

    DRANKS
    +Tasty dirty martinis
+Beers are bottled, not on draught

An excellent place to bring a date and share an appetizer; a lover and split a bottle of bubbly; or a cheating spouse to throw a martini in their face.

    Yeah, it's that kinda place.

This place had all the right stuff that I was looking for in an SF lounge at night on a random Tuesday night - smooth tunes emanating from surround sound speakers, low romantic lighting, smaller space that is not crowded, a huge ass window with a decent view of the city that lives up to its name.

Space is limited so you may wanna make reservations of busier nights. Good luck getting seated next to the huge ass window. Our small group was able to only because I asked the hostess really nicely if she could hook it up so you may wanna do the same if you're stuck on one of the side lounge areas.

The drinks are over $15 dollars here so be ready to pony up for your lady friend(s).

Absolutely gorgeous view of the city!!

Friends from SoCal were in town so one of the stops we went to was The View for a couple of drinks. It's located on the 34th floor of the Marriott hotel in downtown. For a group of four we were able to find a table easily on a Saturday evening. The server was polite, pretty standard service by providing the drink/small foods menu and explaining their specials. The attire I'd say was a mix of semi-dressy to casual, considering this place is frequented by tourists and those who are preparing for a night out in the city.

I had a dirty martini for about $14. Not bad at all. One of my friends had their cosmo special that was way too sweet. I wouldn't recommend that one.

Overall: 4. Nice place to enjoy the view, sip on a drink, and catch up with good company.
