It is okay, nothing that will blow you away. Â Solid is probably the best word to describe Villa Rosa.
I have had better, but also much, much worse. Â No horror stories for me, it is okay. Â Which makes me wonder . . . What is everyone else eating to give so many 5 star reviews? Â I mean is there a secret password for the really awesome grub?
OH YEAHHhhh, how did I not know about this place sooner while living right next to Sauganash my whole life? Anywho, discovered this pizza joint not too long ago and glad I did. Their thin crust is oh so tasty..Cheese and veggie is my usual here. Sidenote: they really load on the veggies here which I love. I haven't tried any of their appetizers or pasta but am willing to try in the future.
I usually pick up from here, but ordered for delivery one cold, lazy Sunday for my family and I. It was delivered on time but the pie was goofed probably from while it was en route. :( So I called them up and they were apologetic and didn't hesitate to fix my order. Received the correct pie in what I think was less than 25 minutes. Mistakes happen, but the way they handled it was just above and beyond. I can tell they are all about good customer service which I highly believe all businesses should practice, but unfortunately not all do. Anyways, thanks Villa Rosa, I'll definitely be back!!
Great place and good customer service. Â Great local family pizzeria. Â The owner is an former army solider, and the professionalism shows.
I went here a couple of days ago to grab a slice of pizza....and they didnt have the sausage slice I wanted so he asked me to wait....and I did. Â Took alittle more than 10 mins like he mentioned, but one comment I overheard him say while I was waiting assured me that I was getting what was an expectation of good food.
"That isn't the type of pizza I serve."
So I waited the extra couple of minutes and on top of it he comped me another soda...which he didn't have to do...and to be honest I didn't expect him to...but was appreciated.
Interior was cool and the menu was all on the wall. Â Parking is streetside so you do have to pay the meter.
I love in Skokie, and decided to try this place due to the closeness to our house and a deal on http://Restaurants.com. i'm sooo glad we did! It's a small, quaint place that I noticed was bomming with a lot of takeout and delivery orders and a very large but thorough for Italian menu. I had a hard time deciding what to order. We tried the cheese bread, house salad, shrimp scampi, and pasta with choice of sauce and side of meatballs. All were fresh, delicious, and definitely worth the wait. The salad was huge and awesome! They weren't stingy with the shrimp as a lot of places are, and the meatballs were huge! The marinara sauce was flavorful and it was a very healthy serving of pasta and my daughter had enough left for 2 more meals. We plan to be back several more times, to try other things on the menu. This place is a gem.
Review Source:OMG!!!!! I have over 18 years in the food and beverage / service industry. Let's start by discussing the food.
Amazing, everything tasted so fresh. I was there with a large group of family and friends. We ordered a wide variety of food and it was all-delicious. The Pizzas are available in everything from ultra thin to thick. The sauces are superb. The Pesto pizza is breathtaking. The beef and hot pepper pizza is unforgettable.
The staff could not have been more attentive. They noticed things we needed before we even ask for them. I was talking with a server only to find out this is an actual family owned and run business. The husband and wife along with staff and family actually worked on the floor.
The front of the house is charming in a family friendly old school pizzeria, hip kind of way. The kitchen looked spotless, I have food sanitation licensing from the city and state so I am very picky about that.
If you like great food, fantastic pizza, impeccable customer service, and very reasonable prices, Villa Rosa Pizza & Pasta is the restaurant you want for yourself and your family.
Ok, so I needed to update this review for two reasons. Â One, we have tried the pan and oh jesus god, it is SO good. Â We had the pan pizza, which I normally don't care for, but this crust was amazing! Â The sauce is of course homemade and the proportion of sauce to cheese to crust is perfection. Â
Second reason for the update is just to thank Carlos and the rest of the team for always providing such great food and customer service. Â We planned a small dinner for our friends anniversary last night, and then realized neither of us felt like cooking. Â So after much pondering, we said "call Carlos!" Â We told him we needed dinner for four and could we do something family style - he made some great suggestions and we decided to get the pasta w/ sausage and meatballs with a salad. Â What arrived at our house was two enormous pans of food. Â Everything was absolutely delicious, right down to my favorite garlic bread. Â I know I can count on this restaurant to take care of us anytime and it is appreciated! Â Our friends were very impressed, full and happy. Â They even asked if we had extra menus to take home. Â :-) Â Thanks again for a great meal!
This establishment has been here forever but got new owners maybe 10 years ago. Â It remains a really popular neighborhood pizza joint but I think it could improve a lot and become even more popular. Â They make a thin crust pizza and you can get just about any toppings you want. Â Unfortunately, I think they must use a cheap cheese. Â It just doesn't taste as fresh and chewy as, say, the pizza from Whole Foods. Â Also, there is a ton of grease on the pizza. Â Whenever we order it, we take paper towels and gently press them on top of the pizza to soak up some of the grease!! Â With so many great thin crust pizza places now, Villa Rosa just isn't in the same league. Â Come on guys, use a better cheese and upgrade your food. Â The price is right, however. Â I have tried the fried zucchini sticks and they were pretty bad: hardly any zucchini in them. Â Mainly, we get this pizza when we have crowds of kids over and want something inexpensive but edible.
Review Source:It is really too bad, but my experience after giving this place yet another chance still hasn't done any good. After I posted my first review of the extreme tardiness of delivery and the fact that they never even called to say they would be late, I received a number of notes from Nancy, the owner. Promises to make it up and prove them better, never happened. I started ordering from Rosati's but attempted to give this place another try, I do believe in the small places and the community business. I place an order in the middle of the day, 2 simple pizzas and sodas. Told "within the hour" (it used to be 45 minutes). Well, again, after an HOUR and FIFTEEN minutes, no pizza and no call to say they are running late. I call and again, get the young-can't help you- have to speak to the owner-no I cannot take anything off your bill- the driver is really on his way-person. Well the driver wasn't on his way because he was able to bring me the gift certificates after calling me back. Another promise that the owner would call me once again did not happen. They refused to compensate on this order, just giving me gift certificates to use in the future. By the time I actually received my order it had been an hour and 40 minutes!
My point to Nancy before over and over was good old fashion common courtesy, if you are going to be late, then call- and don't give me 20 excuses. At least give me the option to come pick up my food if you cannot deliver it on a timely basis. But despite all that, nothing has changed.
Very friendly business and good food. There's no delivery charge before 3p. The Italian po-boy is huge! I've also had, and enjoyed, their pizza, spinach ravioli (not on the printed menu so ask), and burgers.
I must wrap this up because it's almost lunch time and the thought of Villa Rosa is making me hungry!
I've never been to Villa Rosa before in my life, and I didn't grow up in Edgebrook. I did get some gift certificates that my partner and I decided to use before we went to the movies up at Village Crossing.
We didn't have the pizza, instead I opted for the chicken, spinach and mushroom risotto ($14). I will admit that I've not eaten enough risotto in to really know whether this risotto was good or excellent, but I did enjoy it very much. It was rich and creamy, lots of chicken, mushrooms and spinach. I could only finish about 1/2 of it. The rest I took home for leftovers.
The BF had the 1/2 slab of ribs and shrimp combo. Unfortunately, they were out of the jumbo shrimp, so he had the popcorn shrimp instead. Also, quite good and a fair price. They served it with roasted potatoes which were excellent - a great change from french fries!
Soup and salad came with both entrees and both were completely satisfying. The service was polite, friendly and attentive.
Even though we didn't have the pizaa, the meun (a giant blackboard on the wall) looked really inviting and some of their house specials sounded really good! The offer pan, thin crust and extra thin crust -which is my personal favorite.
The place is definitely a throw-back to the olden days of "pizza joints" and probably not a place for a first date, but as a place to stop before going to the movies, I'd recommend it - I'm sure we'll go back again. I also grabbed a menu for delivery.
Ok, so I did grow up in edgebrook. I did eat their pizza every Friday night. But, I'm not also 31 years old and have eaten PLENTY of other pizza and can tell you... this is not anything CLOSE to a Jack's thin crust at Jewel. Â I like the crust... it's a little chewy in the ends and it has that cornmeal grit on the bottom. YUM! I have always gotten a thin crust pepperoni and broccoli when I order from there... but everything is good. Â I don't live in the neighborhood anymore but when I am in the area, I grab a pizza to take home!
Review Source:It seems the only people who have reviewed Villa Rosa is the people who grew up in Edgebrook eating it. I am also in that grouping. However my memories were not that fond. I thought it was pretty much like a jacksthincrust from Jewels. The thin crust was usually soggy and floppy with no support for the toppings. It would just hang there limp in your hand. The sauce was good but contributed to the soggy pizza effect. The toppings were your run of the mill standards. I was preferred the eye tailian sausage and peppers. Nothing extraordinary here and so many other places you can go to get pizza for the same price. For nostalgia I am giving it an extra star but I see no reason in going back.
Review Source:I actually worked at this place when i was a teenager, growing up in Edgebrook. Â The pizza used to be TO DIE FOR but it's my understanding that it's gone downhill in recent years (honestly, haven't had it in a while). Â Their marinara sauce is amazing and if you ask, they will sell it to you by the quart. Â Salads are made fresh daily and for the most part the food is really good, hearty Italian food.
The inside is small and used to be quite run-down. Â I'm not sure what it looks like these days. Â Great for late-night deliveries if you live in the area.
I guess since I just got pepperoni pizza it was okay... But their mozzarella sticks were really good and the customer service is excellent... They cater... have pasta... so they get the extra star making it a total of four...
It's right by the edgebrook library so I see myself and the kid going there a lot =)
