The Village Pub is a quaint place. There was only one person bar tending and serving for the entire place when I was there. Â She was working very hard and still stayed pleasant the whole time. Â I had the corned beef and Swiss sandwich with baked french onion soup and cottage fries. Â My companion had the Angus burger with bacon and cheddar served with chicken noodle soup and mac and cheese. We both shared the spinach and artichoke dip. Â I tried all the dishes and will break them down with my opinion. Â Both sandwiches were served with coleslaw. Â
Spinach and artichoke dip- Â Creamy with adequate amounts of spinach and artichoke. They were served with homemade tortilla chips and some toasted bread slices. Â The kind of bread you would serve with bruschetta. Â We both enjoyed.
Chicken noodle soup- Â Dark both but tasted good. It did its job.
Baked french onion soup- Good spices and flavor. Â I enjoyed a lot. Â Went perfect with a Sam Adams lager. Â Good amount of cheese. I would order again.
Bacon and Cheddar Angus burger- Â Served on a pretzel roll which was very good. Â The quality of it was very good. Â My companion did not like the bacon due to it being cooked soft instead of crispy. Â That is merely a personal preference. Â I thought the bacon was perfect compliment and my preference is for softer bacon.
Mac and cheese- Â It can be hard to find a good mac and cheese in a restaurant so I can be a little forgiving when it comes to this. Â They make it there. Â The noodles were mushy and the dish as a whole was lacking flavor. Â This is generally what you find in a typical restaurant of below this price range in my experience.
Corned beef and Swiss- Â I tried this sandwich due to the recommendation from the server. Â She stated that they make the corned beef there. Â I asked again after she said that to be sure of what I was hearing. If you read the menu all over there are many homemade items listed. Â I asked if they actually make it there, Â as in brisket from scratch and not just buying a pre-seasoned brisket in a package. Â And she agreed. Â So I was excited. Â Especially when the description listed in the menu states "Piled high lean slowcooked corned beef......" Â "Side of Horseradish". Â Â Now I probably should have known better then to expect an actual homemade corned beef. Without talking directly to the chef I can not say if it is actually homemade. Â It was lean cut from the flat. It did shred nicely though. Â The meat was on the dry side but not horribly so. Â The quantity of meat on the sandwich was lacking. There was about 4-5 slices of corned beef that were not thick cut. Â It was definitely not "piled high" as stated on the menu. If the menu did not mention being piled high I would have still thought that the sandwich was overpriced by about 1-2 bucks. Â the horseradish mentioned is your typical horseradish mayo-like sauce. It was sufficient in rehydrating the dry corned beef and giving a good bite of sinus clearing love after an initial sweetness.
Cottage fries- Thoroughly disappointed in these. Â Picture a fried potato slice thicker than a chip. They can be quite good when made right. Â This particular serving was not. The slices were not all uniform which makes for uneven cooking. Â They were some that were cooked beyond done and some undercooked. It was a greasy mess of half stuck together potatoes. I had a pool of oil on my plate from them. Now I am a fan of greasy bar food at the right time so if these were on the bottom of a bowl with crumbled bacon, cheese, sour cream and chives on top then they would have been sufficient. But I know that this particular serving is highly unlikely to be representative of the majority. I just got a bad serving.
Coleslaw- Â I liked the coleslaw. It is creamy. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate it a 6 1/2-7. I would have enjoyed it more had it been cold though. Â It was served to me as almost room temperature.
Overall I enjoyed Village Pub. It is not cheap but if looking to spend a few extra bucks I would recommend for the burgers so far.
We went on a Sunday afternoon and had a terrific time. The food was outstanding and priced right! We met the new owner and found him very friendly. He wanted to make sure we were happy and enjoyed our evening. Our group highly recommends this establishment. Oh, and a good on-tap selection of beer.
