Last weekend I was in OKC and was craving a burger. REAL BAD. I don't frequently eat burgers. so when I want one I want to go all out.
I looked at my friendly Yelp app and saw that VZD's was just a couple miles away from my current location so I made my way over.
Service was splendid, but the music was quite loud. A local band was sound checking while the music was still playing which did not tickle my ears.
We sat upstairs and it was comfortable. Food was A-OK. I had the veggie burger with onion rings. I'd probably get the same thing next time with sweet potato fries instead. If you like to dip your fries in ranch like me, know they charge extra for a side of it.
Good burger fix and I'll be sure to catch a show next time I'm there!
Sometimes, you just need a bar and a cold beer.
And that is exactly what you will get at VZD's. I love the food, especially the club. But don't leave without the fried okra! And their bloody mary's are excellent as well: The perfect antidote if you stayed a little too late the previous night. Chill atmosphere, great music (sometimes a little on the loud side; what can I say? I'm getting old!), perfect spot when you wanna keep it cool and low key.
I went there for a nice little Sunday brunch. Not too shabby. I had the turkey burger with the homemade chips. It wasn't bad at all. I think I may have just gone at the wrong time. I got the feeling that this is a night spot that just happens to have daytime hours, too. I will be going back to give it another try when the sun has gone to bed. I definitely feel like the overall experience will be more enthralling.
Review Source:I love the atmosphere at VZDs and the upstairs is pretty exciting. They play good music and have yummy food. Extra vegetarian options such as a choice between a black bean burger and a garden burger make me very happy. They also have veggie nachos and other vegetarian dishes. I usually get their garden burger with chips which are both delicious and I really enjoy that they use whole grain buns. The sauce they serve to dip the chips in is fantastic and the service is fairly quick. I have had a good server and a bad one and they were both extremely different, so the service seems to be hit-or-miss. They also have many beers to choose from, including some from local breweries. VZDs is non-smoking and although it is a bar, you can bring your kids to have dinner, which is a huge plus.
Review Source:I thought this place had a great atmosphere and decent food. It has its own parking lot next to it which was very convenient. I had a hard time finding the restaurant because there wasn't a sign....only saw the name painted on the window.
Our waitress was very attentive and kept the refills coming. I got a Reuben sandwich that came with chips. The sandwich was good but I did not like the chips. It had no flavor and was too hard.
One of the best burgers in the city, you can order a perfect black and tan, guinness on tap. The lunch specials are always excellent and it has been a mainstay on Western Ave for decades. Some of the best bands have graced the small stage from Dinosaur Jr, Flaming Lips, Faith no More and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and local acts like Billy Joe Winghead, and recently were showing midnight film screenings. Very friendly service and often one can find a rat rod parked out front next to a bmw.
Review Source:The food is better than you might expect from a bar. Â In fact the salads are very good, particularly the Southwest Salad. Â The chicken breast is not over done, there is a wide variety of vegetables, and the dressing is good. Â The stuffed mushrooms are also very good, as are their french fries. Â A good place to go for a casual meal and drinks. Â The service is a bit slow and we often have to call the servers over when we need something, including another beer. Â That said, it is still a fun place to hang out with good food.
Review Source:Veazey's has been many things to many people... a drugstore, a soda fountain, known to most as a bar/restaurant/live music venue of some import. Everyone from the Old 97s to the Flaming Lips to local legend Mike Hosty have graced the stage.
The food is decent to excellent, depending on the day and your hunger level, and perhaps how many COOP Ale Works beers you have in you by the time you place your order. Just try not to order a berry blast, lest you risk a fortnight of heckling.
I think it is a great choice for large groups of friends in their post-college, pre-kids years, because most everyone can afford a night out at VZDs; it sort of bridges the gap between the public defenders and the litigators. I hosted a bachelorette party upstairs once because I felt everyone could cough up the $20 it takes to have food and few beers.
I also got dumped upstairs once, right after college, and the waitress offered to kick his ass for me when she found me up there tearfully paying the check. You might not always LOVE the service, but you can't argue that a waitress offering to kick my college boyfriend in his tuckus was pretty cool.
It's hard to rate VZD's. Â Amazing bar food, great atmosphere, no smoking!... but on the other hand the table service is usually horrible, they book really mediocre bands and they are closed on Sundays. Â I've heard varying reviews of the burgers but I have to say that the tuna steak sandwich is something that I crave on a weekly basis. Â Decent vegetarian options, such as the veggie burger and the veggie nachos! Â I would definitely recommend this place to an out of towner and I often suggest VZD's as a place to meet up for food and drinks. Â If they could straighten out the waitstaff; this place would be swell!
Review Source:Was in Oklahoma City and my broker took us to VZD's for lunch. VZD kind of reminds me of one of the restaurant/bars that you would find in Berkeley. It has that alternative/Berkeley feel to it but with a bit of a Midwest twist to it when it comes to their food selection.
No menu's or wait service here, you basically go up to the bar, look at the chalk board and place your order. VZD seems like a popular lunch time spot as it was slowly filling up with the suit and tie crowd, which made it even more interesting considering the alternative vibe of VZD. The menu is eclectic ranging from everything from your typical bar food of burgers & nachos to things like chicken enchiladas & red beans and rice. They also have about 5 or 6 salad options as well as about 6 - 10 sandwich options too. Price point here is reasonable with a majority of items being under the $10 price point.
I put in an order for one of their specialty Burgers of the day. One thing they note on all their burgers and sandwiches is that they don't allow any kind of substitution. When our name was called, went and picked up my burger. I have to say it was a good size burger and got a nice amount of fries. The burger had cheese, grilled onions, BBQ sauce, and Mayo on it. The burger was pretty good and juicy. It doesn't seem like they season their burger letting the toppings take care of it for them. With the toppings it gave the burger a nice creamy texture to it making for a good burger.
As to ratings, it was a good burger, nothing special, but not bad either. I would come back to VZD if I was in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Overall, good solid food and that's deserving of a good solid 3 star rating.
Yeah, i'm a fan of this place. Not because of the service though, but because of the great burgers. They buy beef locally and grill them up fresh.
Look for specials and make sure to get your burger with their spicy mayo. Fries are fresh and hot every time I've been there and onion rings are very fat, if you like that kind. There is a great stocked bar and a nice atmosphere with bands playing all the time.
My only knock is the service from time to time. About two hours before they switch to drinks only, the servers get a bit snotty on food orders, which makes no sense to me.
Brunch is served on Saturday and it's solid, but not outstanding like their burgers. Saturday brunch is pretty full and the staff knows all the regulars and calls them by name. Pretty cool.
I have eaten there twice, and by there I mean we called it in and ate at the Sip during half time. Â Trip one I ordered the chicken nachos. Â So good. Â The right balance of chicken, cheese and accoutrement. Â And the salsa was fantastic.
This time I went for the world (state; okay fine: city) famous black bean burger. Â The flavor was unreal. Â I want another one right now. Â The bun was soft with a lovely light consistency, the lettuce, tomato and red onion (the latter I obviously removed) were fresh and tasty even in November. Â
Prices are great, service is fantastic. Â Love it.
VZD's is an Oklahoma City classic. They've been around for years and have some interesting bands come through. I've seen The Geraldine Fibbers there as well as Mike Watt and never missed a Jesse Dayton (or The Road Kings) show. I'm only taking away one star because the offerings of shows lately haven't been that exciting to me personally but if you do see a listing for someone you like, definitely go. You'll see a band perform in an intimate, smoke-free setting and the building itself is so historic and charming. Service is decent, I hear the food is actually good (the black bean burgers keep being recommended to me), and the crowd has never been obnoxious (in fact, if you're here around dinner time, the customers appear to be mature businesspeople). Very much worth a visit.
Review Source:VZD's has been my favorite casual hangout bar since I came to OKC.
AMBIANCE: Â great old school ambiance, historic building-nothing corporate about this place at all. Â It retains original light fixtures probably from the 30s-40s and some artifacts from when it was a drug store back then. Â It features posters and photos from artists who have played there over the years (e.g. the Chili Peppers, Bo Diddley). Â
FOOD: it has excellent (inexpensive), fresh pub type food unlike chains such as TGIF, Chilis, etc. Â They actually make their own fries (skins on), serve a mean california club, and offer a really good southwest chicken salad-some of my favs.
SERVICE: spotty-one night it can be excellent and the next time it's bad and comes with an attitude--it's the luck of the draw. Â
THE CROWD: Â lunch is mixture of young-to-middle aged working class and yuppies; weekend nights are young hipsters.
MUSIC: Â they bring in good and interesting bands and have a jukebox with a pretty impressive selection of mostly rock/indie rock.
Great place to drop in and get a bite or a drink in the afternoon, or to hang out with friends at night.
Food is pretty good and they have good beer on tap.
This place also has some pretty good music from time to time and has seen like likes of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rev. Horton Heat, Bela Fleck and many more.
It's been open for 30 years so it's pretty much an OKC landmark and one of the anchors in the Western Ave district.
