This food is fresh, healthy, inexpensive AND tasty. I ate the half and half (half chicken, half beef) veggie bowl with brown rice. The meat was delicious and came with a teriyaki sauce. Portion size was generous enough for leftovers. The staff is super friendly and took the time to explain the menu and quality of the meat. This is a chain that is big in California and they are now opening new sites in VA. I am excited to go back soon!
Review Source:I've been here at least 4-5 times. Â I can only review the chicken teriyaki bowl. Â Overall, I'm not a big fan of their food. Â I found the taste to be bland. Â One really needs to load their bowl with teriyaki sauce. Â Some of the pieces of chicken tasted too gamy. Â On one occasion, the rice was too soggy. Â There is no excuse for not cooking rice correctly, especially in an Asian restaurant!! Â The prices aren't bad. Â You can get 2 bowls for about $10. Â Kids get a discount on Tuesdays. Â I think they are really trying to reach out for business. Â
Sarku Japan, which used to be in Springfield Mall, was a hundred times better than this. Â There is another one similar to Sarku in Potomac Mills which is just as good.
Food: I ate the chicken bowl and absolutely loved it, it was fantastic. For $6.50 I got the chicken bowl with brown rice (substituting white rice with brown is an extra $0.75, fair).
Atmosphere: The tables/lighting/color scheme looks great and is really ample and inviting, but the playlist is pretty bad. It's top 40 but a majority of them are sad which is sort of a damper while you're trying to enjoy the food. One star lost.
Service: This is where it gets iffy. I ordered and the manager Michael was fantastic and pretty friendly. I ordered my food to go and made the mistake of not checking the bag before leaving and noticed they put white rice instead of brown. I went back and kindly stated the situation and asked for a refund, but Michael then only offered half of the refund since I "ate all of the chicken." Of course I'm going to eat the chicken, I was hungry and you messed up my order. It was a turn off for a manager that seemed so well-stanced in customer service to refund me $3.25 instead of $6.50... I decided to stay cool and just accept it, but I won't be returning. Another star lost. I'll stick to the Chipotle across the plaza.
I was skeptical about this place because there is another place near my parents' home whose menu and pictures look almost identical but the food isn't good and is so bland I've thought about carrying soy sauce in my purse. Â But my boyfriend raves about this place all the time and ordered carryout for us one night.
I opened my carryout box and saw that it was the chicken bowl (another look of indifference and skepticism as I don't enjoy teriyaki anything). Â If you order a "bowl," they are just rice and meat, nothing else. Â So I scoop into the food and was very surprised about how moist and sticky the white rice was. Â If anything, that rice was one of the best rices I've ever had...ever. Â The teriyaki chicken was also good because it was cooked in a way that crisped some areas and left other areas of the chicken tender. Â I don't know how to explain it and I wish I took a photo.
If you get a "plate" a portion of salad and fruit will be included and you can also get the bowls with a portion of mixed steamed veggies. Â In addition, if you can handle it, try their hot sauces!
The place is clean; the white tabletops help with that appearance. Â The staff is helpful and friendly. Â Parking is another story. Â Although there is a private lot, it seems like the spaces are placed too close to one another.
A California franchise restaurant made it to the East Coast?!!? First Thought, "OMG, FINALLY!!"..
My friend and I wanted to try something new but nothing too heavy so we decided to stop by Waba Grill since we've heard that it is served in a very healthy atmosphere. When arriving, we were greeted by someone by just stares. No "hello" or "Welcome to Waba Grill", it was more like deer in headlights. After my friend and I stood there for about 10 minutes, the girl behind the counter finally asked us if it was our first time. We told her it was our first time and thats when she gave us a very creepy look and got out from behind  a counter holding a to-go menu.
She started to go through the menu (basically just read it to me, which I could've done myself) but what really got my attention was when she pointed out the chicken plate and said it's really good if we were vegetarians..... WAIT, WHAT?! Yea, so after gathering all my thoughts off the floor, we finally knew what we wanted.
I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki & Vege Bowl and my friend ordered the chicken Teriyaki salad. For the salad, it is an extra $1.50 charge for white meat, which isn't bad but the chicken salad is already served with white meat, so that confused us a little. My meal ended being around $9.
My friend got her salad brought out by another lady that was coughing all over the place on the phone, she didnt bring the dressing but said she would, 10 minutes passed by and she still didnt have the dressing out, my food was brought out and then she went back to get the dressing. I mean, isn't common sense to bring the dressing WITH the salad at the same time!? Apparently not. My food came out in a To-go box which I thought was a cool concept but was a bit small in size for the price I paid. The white rice was hidden on the bottom covered in meat covered in a salty teriyaki sauce and a little scoop of steam/boiled vegetables.
All in all, for the total of almost spending $20 there, I could have done the same thing at home for less.
Will I come here again? Yes, the salmon dish looks so good, so I will be returning to give it another go, I hope its better than this time.
I've been to the Waba in Chantilly which is usually good, friendly, and clean. This one in Springfield is not the same. As for the food, Â I'm highly disappointed because pulled out some kind is plastic/brillo pad material from my mouth after taking a bite of the teriyaki beef. I'm not going back.
Review Source:It's good food. They flaunt it as healthy and it sure seems that way. Tasty chicken and rice. I like to put the WaBa sauce on it for an extra kick. The owner is extremely friendly and the staff, from my experiences, are just as friendly. It's also pretty cheap. $6 for a GENEROUS helping of chicken and rice is great. An extra $1.50 or so to make it a tad more healthy with white meat only is what I usually get.
Must try in my book.
**3.5 STARS*
I've heard good things about this place and finally decided to try it out with my boyfriend for lunch. They have different types of combinations on their menu, and also offer both white and brown rice. There's also a sriracha style hot sauce, pickled veggies, and sauce that you can put on yourself after you pickup your order.
I got the half half with veggies, which is supposed to be 2 meats on top of rice with a side of veggies. I asked for half salmon and half chicken, but they said that they "weren't allowed to do that right now," so I got a side of chicken as well. Although I liked the chicken a lot, I thought the salmon was flavorless and doused with too much sauce over it.
I'll definitely give Waba another shot since it's budget friendly, promotes healthy eating, and is closeby, but I'll probably just stick to the chicken next time.
Waba grill is new to the Springfield area and has been garnering a lot of good word of mouth from my co-workers, so I had to try it out. WB's big selling point is its healthy menu. I had the chicken veggie rice bowl, it comes in a nice size bowl cooked teriyaki style. Also very reasonably priced.
My only real gripe is that the chick chick isn't bursting with any real flavor, just some drizzled sauce over it and the veggies are as hard as a brick. I thought I was gonna chip my tooth biting into the cabbage. Â Now I know its more healthy for me to have steamed stiff vegetables, but my Southern roots have me pining for some soft seasoned broccoli or carrots. I would eat there again but will ask them to cook it a lil bit longer next time. 3.5 stars for now
"No MSG, No skin, No frying, No oil used in cooking" is written on the door and that is what lured me in at first. I had the steak salad and I loved it! It was delicious with the house dressing it came with. The steak reminded me of Korean bbq bulgogi. The salad also came with half of an orange on the side which i thought was a nice sweet treat at the end! I will be coming back.
