I love The Waiting Room.  It has a wide variety of food items on the menu, and anything not on the menu, just ask, more than likely they can make it for you.

Drinks are cheap and it's a great place to catch a game - it has four big screen TVs (and it's a small bar.)

Service has always been good, at the bar or at a table.

A lot of locals come here and the age range of patrons range from 21-60.

If you are there on a Friday night try the Prime Rib.

    Will definitely return!!!

The staff is amazing, the food is awesome & the portions are huge. Try the crab cakes, they are made fresh with no filler. The buffalo shrimp are sooooo good!

Everything I order here is the best thing I ever ate!  Wings are hands down the best in the area.

Wow, the pictures and reviews within Yelp and the restaurant web site (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thewaitingroom.us&s=88dd409a209a9058e418f38819a25b3fa8d891f6f51f39676ee052e73a15d72e" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.thewaitingroo…</a>) are deceiving. They don't mention that this is a dive bar ran by what looked like young kids - 18 yr olds? This place has potential to be better, but so many things need to be improved.

Service was VERY slow. Walked in the place and I made eye contact with who looked like the "host", a young kid and waited for him to seat us, but said nothing. Had to ask him about seating to which he answered we could sit anywhere. My party of 6 sat down and looked over the menu. The selection was plentiful and prices for the pasta entres are pricey and do not match the divey atmosphere. The "host" ended up being our waiter too - perhaps it was his first day, but he got a lot of things incorrectly. For instance, I asked him "have you had the Batch 19 beer?" to which he just responded "Yes"... Typically when one asks that, they're usually asking for an opinon or description of the drink. Everyone else's drinks came one at a time, but my beer never arrived. When it did finally come, it was served by another young kid and it was an incorrect order, a Heineken. I asked him for the Batch 19 instead and I saw the bartender in the back throw the draught Heineken away and pour the Batch 19, almost upset.

I ordered the steak sandwich and asked for the sauce to be put on the side, but it was served without any sauce at all. Surprisingly, I ended up not needing the sauce because they were generous with the steakum-like meat which was pre-marinated. The fried onions and mushrooms was not plentiful nor was there a lot of cheese. Come to think of it, I don't think there was any cheese at all.

Everyone else was just ok or didn't like their meal. My one friend ordered the Maryland crabcakes - only 2 crabcakes served with lots of may potato salad. I don't really expect much out of crabcakes, but this place should just get rid of that from the menu. Good thing it was only $8.45.

Everyone finished and I asked for the check. The waiter acknowledged and started doing other things and later forgot. The place wasn't busy at all, but they lacked a system and are forgetful. I asked him for the check again while he has in front of the cash register which was just behind me.

Overall service is slow. Getting your order correct on the first try should be basic 101. Not a friendly atmosphere at all - just workers (young kids) running around even though it's not busy. They wouldn't be running around if they had organization. The owner should drop by to assess his own place and it doesn't take a professional to be able to correct the simple things.

I come here with coworkers for lunch once a week.  For food is good.  You can't go wrong with a burger or sandwich.  Beer prices are good too.

Great casual bar with excellent food. They not only have great typical bar food like wings, nachos, and onion rings but also put their own spin on their menu like potato pancakes and delicious chicken-mushroom quesadillas. If there's a game on they have it projected onto one of the walls and usually have some drink specials.

There's a reason it's called "The Waiting Room".  You wait, and wait, and wait,.....and wait! I decided to eat here with my sister and husband before a concert. I made reservations the day before but when we arrived our table was given to another customer. We decided to wait 15 minutes until we seated ourselves at a table where others were sitting but eventually walked out because they got tired of waiting to be serviced. We sat waiting for another 15 minutes before we saw a waiter. After placing our order we waited over one hour when another waiter finally brought our appetizers and entrees to the table. At that point we were already late for our concert. The food was mediocre and not worth the wait. Never again!

I've got to say I still love their food but when you go to this place when it is really busy the service is super slow.  If the place is packed I think the wait staff gets flustered and can't tell who was helped or not since its a "seat yourself" place.  On one occasion I went with my husband and waited 20min to be helped but then just left because it was too busy.

Staff - Very Friendly and helpful.

Food - Pretty Good.  Disco Fries are great and the Chicken Sandwiches are very tasty

Overall, I would def eat and drink here again.  Nice place!

Big ol' bar/restaurant smack in the middle of Downtown Rahway. The space is huge with a ton of tables and a large, long bar. Good amount of TVs and free WiFi.
I usually only drink Yuengling or Magic Hat, but there's a nice list of bottled beers as well as as draft. Did I mention the Magic Hat is on draft? Amazing.
The kitchen stays open quite late, which is great if you're hopping off a train from the city with s grumbling belly. I highly recommend the chicken caesar salad, and it's brother the chicken caesar wrap. The dressing is homemade and oh so delish.  Burgers are popular here, and they make an amazing Reuben.
The staff and service were okay. Most seem to be Rahway locals and you can tell because many of their friends stop in and chat it up for a while.
The bathrooms are pretty clean, but they have some weird decor I just can't get down with.
Solid lunch/dinner spot if you're in the area.

This is a really cool spot and one that we need to come back to and try out the food.  Very open, awesome AC and lots of TVs.  Hmmm, I wonder how the blue and old gold of WVU will look on those TVs?  We will update.

The food here is great! My boyfriend and I were looking for something to do Memorial weekend and decided to hang out in Rahway NJ. There was not too much to do in this area but we did stumble upon this restaurant which was surprisingly great. My boyfriend had the ribs and wings and their steam vegetables. I completely forgot what I had but I do remember it was great! We actually went back during our time in Rahway and can't wait to stop in again.

This place is pretty awesome - good service, good food - lots of space inside (it still gets crowded on some weekends and whenever they have live bands) love the QT film festival by v-day also!

OK, Maybe it's because I'm a local to Rahway... But I love the waiting room. You can bring your family or you can grab drinks with friends. They have good food and alcohol; but, what really makes this place great is the people. Some evenings they host events and it can either get overly crowded with old people or teeny boppers or sometimes it gets sketchy but hey I'd still go there. Fun, local, definitely like a dive bar.

I came in early on a weekday to blow some time. I had heard a lot of great things about this place and was eager to try it out. Maybe it gets its name because that's what you do there - you wait! I sat at the bar for 5 minutes and no one approached me despite it being empty and the bartender looked right at me. Then I said, "Hello? I'd like to just grab a beer." And the bartender still ignored me and kept talking to the locals. So, I walked out. Bummer....
I don't think I'd give this place a second chance. That's just outright rude and disrespectful and highly unprofessional!

I met up with some friends at the Waiting Room last Saturday to watch the Rangers playoff game.  It was my first time there so I was a little surprised more people were not there for the game.  The bar is clean and the service is excellent. We had about 3 servers coming by checking on drinks and food. I hear the food is awesome. I only tried the French fries, which were very tasty. The gravy was insane.  Some friends had a grilled cheese, Philly wrap, and some burgers. It all looked and smelled great.  There was a cover band that came on at 10pm.  The only down side was that while the game was on (the huge wall screen) they would not turn on the volume. The band was not playing yet but I can see how not everyone may want to listen to the game.  The band came on at 10pm. The Rangers were going into OT. So we had the live music  in front of us while trying to see the game. It was not a deal breaker. I will deff be back. We had an awesome time. You can not beat the price or atmosphere.

I went in on a Wednesday night and it was dead which was understandable. The first thing I noticed was the bad acoustics and how muffled/underpowered the music sounded. I was told it was the tin ceiling. Huge place so I imagine it's probably pretty popular on weekends. The food was simple but good. Staff was friendly and attentive.  I would return.

I love hanging out at the  Waiting Room in Rahway.  The pub has a neighborhood bar atmosphere that a primetime sitcom would only dream to emulate.  Menu is full of traditional pub food/american fare and always add variety with daily soups and specials.  Food is nothing too out of the ordinary but is homemade and does not taste like it was flash heated on a grill like other comparable restaurants.

The Waiting room is great to grab a cold pint after work but gets really animated during a big game.  They have a huge projector allowing everyone access to a screen.  They also have events held throughout the year including bands and themed parties.

Wait service is great.  Also have a conversation with the bartenders and servers.

Dined here only once but it was really good and can't wait to go back. It's a large, wood-floored, open-concept restaurant.

Ordered the "market price" chili off the appetizer menu and it was a modest portion but very tasty and we were amused to see it cost about $3.95. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was the best chicken sandwich I've had in years. They pound out a whole breast, marinate it and serve it on a pillow-soft bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese.

There is a full bar and the tables were filled with coworkers enjoying drinks after work. The music was loud and the restaurant was dark and well air-conditioned. Conversation was a little challenging because the music and conversation of fellow diners seems to bounce off the walls and floors. It wasn't wholly unpleasant, but just be warned it seems to be a pretty rowdy, loud place during happy hour. I wouldn't hesitate to take children there, though, because it's also fairly child-friendly (just avoid the raised seating near the bar) with a cheerful waitstaff.

Parking can be an issue if you have a problem with walking a short distance or don't want to drive around to find a metered spot.

Went hear last week- I really wanted to like this place, but was not impressed.  Lame tossed salad, lousy Reuben sandwich. And the beer seemed a little weak/flat!
I might give it another chance - maybe it was a bad night.

I go to the Waiting Room once a week. Its where Rahways chefs hang out after work.
Their food is the best example of pub grub in the area only better. The prices are right in the sweet spot. The Friday night prime rib dinner for $16 bucks you cant go wrong.
As a chef its good to see their meats come out as ordered. Medium rare is pink and juicy as well as seasoned perfectly.
The waitstaff is the type that will keep an eye on you even if its "not their section." They're quick to detect a nearly empty glass and ask you if you neeed another.
There are plenty of quirky people and events for any crowd to enjoy. I plan to attend the anual Valentines Day Tarantino film fest.
They know us by name there and even give us our own TV to watch our favorite West Coast sports teams and drink our local west coast beer too!
Highly recomend the Waiting Room for travelers too. I always meet people staying at the local hotel who say that it was quite an unexpected find.

A lot of people I know think this place is for white trash old people, but I disagree.  It does look a little sketchy on the outside, especially because of the location, but it's extremely clean and nice inside.  I prefer bars that aren't so dead it's creepy, but that aren't so packed you can't get a drink, so for me, this is the perfect place.  There are a wide variety of ages who go here from 20s-60s.  The drinks are pretty cheap [I've seen cheaper, but I'm pretty broke, and I can afford to go here].  The service is good, and every one who works here is friendly.  Ive only had fries from here, but I've heard their food is really good.  They also have a bunch of board games you can play [most of them are little kid games like Candy Land and Chutes and Latters].. Some people may think this is weird.. but I think it's pretty fun to be wasted and play Candy Land at a bar at the same time.  I'd definitely recommend this place if you want a more quiet envorinment and are just looking to grab a couple drinks with friends or a signifigant other.

Was in Downtown Rahway for a night. Love how they serve food up to midnight. They're actually the only open place in town to go to for late night dinners. Not that it's a bad thing. Their food is great.

Service was really friendly and great. The ambience was fun, and the environment friendly. Great bar too. Pity they didn't serve daiquiris though. haha.

This place definitely over-exceeded expectations. I will definitely come here again.

Only been here once but it seemed like a pretty chill spot to hang out. Just  around the corner from the Hotel Indigo, it seemed like a pretty happening spot in an otherwise dead area...well as far as nightlife goes. We had a few beers at the bar. Bar tenders seemed nice and helpful. Ambiance was nice and relaxing. Would definitely look forward to coming here again if we stay at the hotel again.

I love this place! The food is pretty good.  It is the type of place that will ask you if you need another beer, when you still have a sip left. The nachos are good the beer selection is also pretty good. good music, good atmoshere. The se rvice is fantastic. You dont really have one waiter assigned to you, the whole staff just keeps their eyes open. If I were to open a bar, I would use the waiting room as a service model!!

Finally went to the Waiting room after reading the Star Ledgers munchmobile review.  I was very happy with my whole experience.  I liked the large open layout.  Don't have to worry about other tables being on top of yours.  Service was top notch.

Decent draft beer selection.  Ordered the nachos as an appetizer, good amount of cheese and toppings.  Liked the salsa they served with it, not sure if it homemade or pre-made, it was still to my liking.  I had the lamp chops that I really, really, really enjoyed.  I would go back for them in a heart beat.  My husband had the ribs.  While good, he didn't care for the BBQ sauce.

The Waiting Room is one of my favorite spots to go eat.  The food is really delicious (way better than you would expect from a sports bar), and it's very reasonably priced.  I love their nachos, ribs, and pork chops.  They also have a really great selection of drinks.  It's also a pretty nice restaurant, very open and home-y feeling.

I do have a couple of issues with it.  For one, the service can be very hit-or-miss.  Sometimes we're treated well, sometimes it's so slow.  Second, it's really hard to determine the crowd you'll see there.  Sometimes it's like a dance club for twentysomethings and some times it's got a cover band and a bunch of people in their forties and up.  I assume that's how their able to draw such a big crowd (much bigger than other restaurants in Rahway).  It's quirky, but I do really enjoy it.  I hard to go wrong with the Waiting Room.  I really love them during Oktoberfest too.

In terms of a sports bar, the Waiting Room is the kind I like. Big, open layout, decent selection of beer, good service, pretty good food.

I met some friends here to watch a Giants game, and we mostly had the place to ourselves. There was one big screen showing the game we wanted, and the other half-dozen TVs around the room broadcast a selection of sporting events, for your pleasure.

The food was average-to-good bar food. The chili and Caesar salad were excellent. The burger left something to be desired, but was cheap enough.

Drinks were refilled as often as we wanted them to be refilled. The waiter even came outside to ask our friends if they wanted another round while they were out, smoking.

If you want a nice relaxing place to take in an afternoon, and you're in the area, the Waiting Room is a good choice.

I've passed by this place many times as it's several doors down from my hairdresser, however never went inside. Just never appealed to me. One day I was looking for a restaurant to try with a $25 <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurant.com&s=0aab4cbd731f3d3b0d1453050d3abc56a8c80bd214e25469c7555b750dca8a51" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurant.com</a> certificate, so I figured I'd give this place a try. I'm so glad that I did! OMG, the ribs are amazing!! Did I say amazing! Best ribs I've ever had. It's what I order every time I go. Menu isn't very extensive, but they have the basics and it's all good. The salads and appetizers, everything we had we enjoyed. Now we go probably once a month. It's got the local neighborhood bar feel, with friendly service, even if it's not always the fastest.

If you're looking for a local, casual spot, give this place a try.
