I will never come here again. Â After waiting forever for our food to arrive, my "surf and turf" was nothing more than a piece of cold prime rib (and when I say cold, the outer edges that are well done and the au jus was COLD) and 2 little stuffed shrimp for $25! My boyfriend ordered the cajun catfish, and while it tasted good, it was a small portion for the amount charged. Â The only upside were the sweet potato fries. Â The server was next to useless...not worth the money at all.
Review Source:The place looks like it would be cool, but my experience was bad. Â Service was bad. Food wasn't much better. I tried the honey jalapeno wings. The wings were drowning in honey and tasted nothing like jalapeno. They also should have been cooked longer.
My entrée was a chicken and spinach pasta. It was very bland. It did contain a lot of chicken, I'll give them credit for that. I feel bad giving a 2 star review, but based on my experience 2 stars is appropriate.
Excellent food and excellent atmosphere.
Westwood has everything that you would want in a nice bar and restaurant: Â a nice location (in some sort of office-looking building, though apparently it was an envelope factory at one point), a nice interior, and a nice bar. Â Â
The food is excellent: Â I had a great bison burger, which was cooked perfectly. Â The apps are also very good. Â Beer was okay, though their Amber Ale has a weird taste when you start it. Â Otherwise the wares are really good.
They also have Keno, which is important for any bar. Â Keno allows awesome things to happen, like winning money, Â and watching to see if your numbers come up, because sometimes, they do!
So overall, go to the Westwood Restaurant and Pub if you're in Westfield.
Years ago, the town of Westfield, Massachusetts was a blue-collar factory city, located along a tributary of the Connecticut River. Back in the 1800s, this was known as the "Whip City", because Westfield was world-famous for making buggy whips. (See the fascinating crap that you can learn by reading those in-room magazines?)
Since that time the town has gone through a major makeover, and a lot of the old warehouse and manufacturing facilities have been gutted and turned into some really nice parks, restaurants, and boutique shops along the banks of the river.
The Westwood Restaurant and Pub is located in what was once a big factory / warehouse near the river, which manufactured buggy whips, and then in the 1920's it became home to the Old Colony Envelope Company for more than 75 years. When the envelope company moved out for more spacious facilities, the property was purchased by the Westwood Pub folks.
The owners have left a lot of the charm of the old building but yet renovated the place into a great local eatery and sports pub. The brickwork and most of the woodwork is all original, so it has a nice sense of history.
The Westwood has a massive wooden bar in the middle of the room, with seating for 50 or more people, plus booths and tables all around the exterior of the room. There are TVs all over the place so it's easy to follow the game of your choice during your meal. Â (Note to out-of-town visitors......should you happen to be in Westfield when the Tampa Bay Rays are playing the Boston Red Sox, it is best to quietly sip your beer and just grin as the Rays kick their butts all over the field.)
The Westfield advertises that they always serve at least 24 beers on tap. Sure, they have the usual blue-collar favorites, but they also have a very impressive collection of IPAs, stouts, regional microbrewery favorites, and seasonal selections. I saw a seasonal pumpkin IPA being offered, and if i didn't have so darned much paperwork to do.... They have Magic Hat, Berkshire Brewing, Sea Dog, Smithwick's, Long Hammer, and several other favorites that were calling to me.
As for the food, you'll find a lot of appetizers and smaller-plate selections, along with soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. For healthier appetites they have a lot of beef, chicken seafood, and pasta options.
For my dinner I had their shrimp & scallop penne pasta special which was nice plump diver scallops and big pink shrimp that had been sauteed and then served over al dente pasta with a tomato cream sauce with wilted spinach leaves, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan cheese.
A surprisingly good meal in a very delightful setting. I've eaten here a few times in the past, and have this place on my short list of favorite restaurants in town.
On a business trip and customer took us here for lunch. Nice place, huge bar with 24 beers on tap. You can sit around the bar or they have plenty of tables all around. Our customer proceeded to tell us the history behind the building. Turns out his factory/warehouse was originally located here. He sold the building to get a larger facility cool story. He explained all the details behind the decor and how old windows were kept to give it that extra touch. Anyway for lunch we were all simple 3 had the bacon wraps which were very good, the other went for meatloaf. He was quite happy with his choice but very tired after.
Later that night we decided to return to try the beverages. I went for Westwood Kick Ass Amber Ale, it did just that. Good and a quick buzz. The others just samples various beers then went for their old favorites. We did order dinner and I had Shrimp/Scallop penne pasta. No a big fan of pasta but this was good. Others had steak and swordfish and were very happy with their choices.
It was worth returning. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great bar. Worth stopping by and trying out.
I've gone here to eat a few times - food was pretty good, the service was great.
I had my wedding in the garden room and my reception in the banquet hall - it was fantastic! Â Tracy, the event coordinator, is as good as it gets. Â She's soooo friendly, super organized, and really goes the extra mile to make sure your event goes off without a hitch. Â The buffet food was delicious and served hot. Â Our guests commented about how tasty everything was!
If anyone is looking for an affordable wedding reception location, this is the place!
We went on a Saturday evening around 6pm. The restaurant was not packed,we sat down immediately. The waitress was very good. We had draft beers and spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer. The app was ok, but I have had better. Â I had the asian scallop salad which was supurb. Overall a good meal although it cost about 60$ for the two of us.
Review Source:The atmosphere of Westwood is really comfortable, but the place is huge and I only seen part. Â In the place I had dined there was a nice little gas fireplace going, and a TV above it.
For appetizers I had the Potato Skins and the Fried Mozzarella Planks, both delicious. Â The Potato Skins had Cheddar Jack cheese and bacon, and it came with a side of sour cream. Â The Fried Mozzarella Planks were like Mozzarella Sticks except they were flat, and they were served with a marinara sauce.
I had a house salad with ranch dressing, just a typical salad really.
For the main course I had a grilled steak tenderloin (asked for med-rare, but it was medium), garlic potatoes, and veggies on the side. Â The potatoes were great, the veggies were average, and the steak was not cooked to order. Â
The waitress was very good. Â The food had been timed excellently, from appetizers to dinner, one right after I was done with the other, which reduced the clutter of extra unfinished plates on the table. Â Westwood had been serving the lunch menu at the time, but the waitress asked the cook if he/she could cook us our steaks, and I did get a steak.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to drink, because I was going right back to work afterwards, but they do have twenty-four beers on tap. Â Nice!
If Westwood got the steak right I would give them five stars, but overcooking my steak is not cool. Â Overcooking my steak knocked them back to three stars, but the fact that they cooked me a steak during their lunch menu boosted Westwood up one star, for a grand total of four stars. Â Not great, but good.
