While at the salon, the owner was pushing this place to us saying it's awesomer than Pita Inn, so we decided to take out from here a week ago.
We tried to order the combination plate and a half and half (chicken and beef) shawarma entree along with a large hummus.
My husband picked up and to our surprise they gave us a chicken shawarma entree and a beef shawarma entree. 1 star off for effing up our order.
The meats and rice that came underneath were pretty gosh darn bland. And the sauces didn't help much either. Â And the hummus- it had some kinda weird effect on your tongue... once you try it, it has this weird effervescence-like effect where it feels like it's either tart and tingly or something... hard to describe but it was not normal. 1 star off for bland and 1 star off for weirdness.
I dunno, there is nothing wrong with the other Mediterranean places around here. Maybe we went on an off day. I'd be up for trying it again, sans hummus next time though.
I always try my best to go out and support Assyrian owned restaurants, and if I end up liking the food then even better! Larsa's is still the best place for me, but this comes close because of the cheaper prices.
The restaurant itself is nice. I like the area and I like the way they decorated it inside. Plenty of seating available. My only problem was the guy who was standing at the front counter. He was very awkward when we walked in, said hi as if he was suspicious of us, and quietly took our order. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but it felt a little uncomfortable. Everyone else was nice, though!
We tried both the veggie plate and the combo. The combo was much better than the veggie plate. The meats were delicious and you can tell that they use a good quality meat that is fresh. However, the salad in both the combo plate and veggie plate lacked flavor and I really couldn't finish eating it. Â The veggie plate was pretty decent. The baba ghanoosh was very good and so were the falafil. The hummous was pretty basic. Once again, I really did not enjoy the salad. I also wish for the veggie plate they gave a little more bread. Towards the end I just ended up eating spoonfuls of hummous and baba ghanoosh because I didnt have any bread left.
All in all, this is a nice restaurant, with good prices, and better than average middle eastern food. I am pretty excited to try their masgoof next time.
It's not going to knock your socks off, but you won't feel as though you wasted your money. The service here is much better than at Pita Inn (which has, perhaps, the best Mediterranean style food in Chicago). The service is simply superb with friendly workers. And if you are close by, like I am, it's good solid convenient food.
Review Source:If I could I would give 4.5 stars. Â The food is Iraqi and I went for the combo of chicken, Kefta, and shwarma. Â All were delicious and the Kefta and chicken tasted like Persian kabobs. Â I also tried the hummus which was pretty good but not extraordinary. Â Friendly service and great food..I will be back!
Review Source:This joint keeps getting better. Â They now offer two lunch specials for $6.
#1 is a miniature version of their regular combo. Â It's a reduced portion of the three meats, the same amount of salad and rice, plus a falafel. Â For six bucks! Â I feel like I'm stealing from them. Â I love that they throw in the falafel, because then you get the best of what they do--meats and falafel. Â Both are stellar.
#2 is a miniature version of their vegetarian combo. Â You get nice little piles of hummus, baba ghannouj, tabbouleh, and green salad, plus pita and a falafel.
Recently a department in my company got a large lunch catered from Wild Pita. Â When I left the office around 6pm that day, the leftovers were sitting in the kitchen. Â I bit into a falafel and found it as crunchy and tasty as if it were fresh. Â Brilliant.
I went here for the first time today and it is definitely the best mediterranean cuisine in Glenview. The people there are great too.. they definitely care and will hold a conversation with you. I will be a weekly visitor now! Also, the interior is super cute and they did a good job designing it. Very clean and modern.
I ordered the Chicken Shwarma and small hummus on the side. It was delicious. This will be my new spot especially because they have healthy options. Also, I have tried the other mediterranean restaurants in Glenview and they are by far the best.
Check it out!
We've been repeat customers since shortly after they opened. Â You really can't go wrong here--we've tried just about everything. Â There are healthy and very reasonably priced choices like salmon, and some unusual and delicious offerings like the Kubba. Â The Baba ghanoush seriously cannot be beat. Â The three sauces are delicious; be sure to try them. Â My wife and I far prefer this place to Pita Inn. Â Employees are very nice. Â The decor is nothing to write home about; order at the counter etc.
Review Source:Let me start by saying that I am a middle eastern girl, who grew up on absolutely delicious, homemade, middle eastern food, so I am tough to please. I have been here twice, and both times I was disappointed. The first time I tried the Kefta which tasted, to me, like low quality meat doused with too much seasoning to throw you off. The second time I ordered the Kubba, which is one of my favorite dishes, just not at Wild Pita, I couldn't even finish it, it tasted like bad gyro meat, and the texture was pretty rubbery. I went there the second time hoping that I just went on an off day, but I was not swayed.
I hate to give a bad review to a place just starting out, but in my opinion, it just wasn't all that great. I gave it two stars because it was a clean environment and the people were friendly, but the food was not impressive.
As a Detroit native, I have high standards for Middle Eastern food. This is the best Middle Eastern I've had in the Chicago area. My only quibbles are with the sauces (a little watery) and the absence of fresh baked puffy bread (sometimes called Iraqi bread). Otherwise, excellent food.
Review Source:A new spot that I had spotted on my usual drive home from work, Wild Pita was calling my name. Driving into the lot, Â I noticed that parking is at a premium since it is a small lot off of Waukegan Rd. but even at lunch time, you should be able to get one without a wait.
Upon entering, I was greeted and noticed the meat being turned on the slow cooker and my mouth instantly started to water. I ordered a Chicken Pita and a side of Hummus. The Chicken Pita turned out to be very good and fresh. There were also side sauce options, I chose the garlic sauce which was great. The serving of the hummus lasted me a week! It was HUGE...but I was not complaining. I had a bite of the falafel which was also very good. I felt that it needed to be dipped in sauce though to prevent too dry of a bite but I don't usually eat falafel a lot.
Overall, I will be back to visit Wild Pita again and again.
Great for a quick bite to eat for lunch. Â It was nice to walk in and place my order togo and have it ready in under 5 minutes. Â It was nice that the counter help was happy to explain any dishes to me if I was unclear. Â Food was tasty and hot and fresh.
I have returned three times since they have opened and its been the same great customer service each time...... I am a fan!!!
I didn't want to write a review until I had the chance to try most everything on the menu. Now, its safe to say that this is the most authentic Mediterranean spot on the North Shore. Â From the kfita kabob, to the shish kabob, the tender chicken, or the chicken shawarma, you cannot go wrong with whatever you choose on the menu. My advice would be to go with the combination plate and find out what you like best for your return visit. Yes, you will be returning and quite often if you are fan of Mediterranean food. The pita is of the thin variety, which works just fine for me. The rice is excellent and reminds me a bit of Persian rice as it seems like a Basmati mixture.
The food is always fresh, the portions are quite generous, and the place is a value in terms of price. Plus, the place is spotless and always clean. You will not find a better all around meal at any other local Mediterranean restaurant. Pita Inn you say? You must be kidding. No reason to ever deal with the lines and cheap meat over at Pita Inn again.
Wild Pita has saved me the aggravation of settling on Pita Inn due to it being the only place in town. Â If you dont believe me, try the Shish Kabob at Wild Pita and compare it to the rubbery Shish Kabob at Pita Inn. Nuff said.
The service is quite good as well and the staff is always helpful and nice. Once you finish your meal, you will be in a food coma, I guarantee it.
So after writing my review and quick tip I was quickly responded by the owner of Wild Pita, and was very grateful for his quickness to apologize and make it right by offering my wife and myself two free entrees and two free sides. Â The only reason I gave it another shot was the owner was very professional and very kind. Â I therefore went yesterday and was greeted by the same front girl though she didn't apologize or really greet (she needs to learn but whatever there because of the owner and food). Â She did give us drinks as well which I was grateful for. Â
We got:
- two combo plates - Awesome flavor on the kefta kabob ( tender and flavorful), the beef shawarma (more flavorful and texture is different from other Middle Eastern places, more like pulled porkish, but didn't like the flavor), but the chicken shawarma is to die for. Â The way it is roasted and so juicy and tender with the spices I can eat that all day! Â
***So do yourself a favor and substitute one of the meats for chicken shawarma. Â Combine this with their three sauces and its an amazing meal. Â Seriously their food is top of the line for Middle Eastern food and will definitely come back because of the food (now that I am over with the first bad experience).
- baba ghannouj - this cannot be baba ghannouj!!! Â It is freaking amazing, it is so flavorful and has a smokey taste to it. Â So delicious, I had to comment how surprised my tastebuds were by a non-meat dish. Â Seriously get this, you won't regret it. Â Bravo for making a dish that I was never fond of and makes me want to order it over and over.
- falafel - yes this is how falafel is suppose to taste, not overly crispy, just right and seasoning is great. Â I actually ate my falafel!
So all in all I am glad the owner is a great man who knows how to do business. Â I just think the front desk girl can have a bit more manners in dealing with customers but no biggie, she'll learn I hope. Â But yeah definitely will be back.
Stopped in last week for dinner, had seen it several times in passing but finally worked my way in. To preface this, I will say that I am a regular at Pita Inn so my opinion of this place relies heavily on that comparison.
Overall this is a very nice restaurant. Very clean, small operation. Menu is pretty short but the standards are all there. I opted for the Kefta in a wrap, and my friend got the Schwarma plate.
The wraps, for what I paid for it (about $5) was overpriced, and I don't say that about many things that cost $5. The meat was cooked well enough, but there was barely anything inside the wrap. Even if they had loaded it up with the salad (which looks really unappetizing), I don't think it would have been worthwhile. The platters are the way to go if you're going to eat here but even that is not really a whole lot of bang for your buck.
The pita here is thin. REALLY thin. And I don't think that's a good thing.
There are only a couple of people working there so I can understand the service taking a little longer, but it is still a little slow. Again, my comparison is to Pita Inn which is a total madhouse assembly line.
If you don't mind the rush and the noise of Pita Inn, your money is better spent there than at this place. Don't get me wrong, this place was perfectly acceptable. Food is good and the restaurant is cozy. But I can take my $5 over to Pita Inn instead and get almost two meals worth of food at lunch time instead of something comparable in size to a McDonalds snack wrap. Don't have any intentions of returning. Glad to see more Mediterranean fare in the area though.
So happy to have a good Mediterranean restaurant near our house- and inexpensive at that! Â Tried this place last week and very pleasantly surprised. Â My husband and I split the chicken shwarma plate, falafel, and hummus. Â The chicken was really flavorful, and the falafel were delicious. Â I was a little disappointed in the pita, only because I like them fluffier, and this was a bit crisp. Â The portions are large, and our total came out to only $14. Â Can't wait to go back!
Review Source:I ordered dinner last night and called them this morning to tell them how wonderful it was! Â The owner told me I made his day! Â I ordered the vegetarian combination and loved everything! Â The baba ghannouj was outstanding! I also ordered the chicken kabob wrap and it was also delicious and juicy! I will definitely go back and recommend it to others! Â Hope they do well!
Review Source:I loved this place! Â They had the best baba ghanouj ever!
The shawirma (both chicken and beef) are amazing, juicy and so full of flavor. Â I had the combination so that I could try both. Â Drizzling the sauces all over your rice and meat is a must :)
This is definitely a place to go to have fresh, healthy, non-processed food. Â I highly recommend it!
First and foremost, the place looks very clean, remodeled, and newly decorated, which is comforting. Even the bathroom was very clean which says a lot! I had a chance to speak with one of the owners and he was very approachable. He is very friendly and the service was great. Parents, it's also a baby friendly environment with high chairs and I was told that the changing tables were coming soon! As for the food, as a told the owner, I liked the hummus and the falafel were delicious. My wife and I had the chicken shawerma wrap and chicken cream chop plate as well. Shawerma was okay, but neither bad nor as tasty as that of Pita Inn, let's say. Perhaps I will change my mind the second time around. The hot and white sauces were excellent. I was most impressed with the taste and portion size of the chicken cream chop plate. They do a great job breading the chicken. I thought the rice was a bit bland but nothing a little salt can't correct. I would have also liked a few slices of grilled veggies or tomatoes with the plate but certainly not a big deal. You can't complain about the prices, very reasonable. I will definitely be back to try the meat, which I'm told is really good. Overall, great bang for your buck!
Review Source:I am pickier, since I love and appreciate quality authentic Mediterranean food. Â Â Â It's just not the best , but it's still worth trying. Â Â The food is close to being good, but just needs some minor reworking. Â
Service:
Service was outstanding when they first opened. Â Doesn't seem as friendly and warm. Â Wait times can be painfully slow, especially if they have a few customer already there. Â Â
Food:
*Hummus - If you like eating Tahini paste (ground sesame seeds) with a touch of chickpeas, then you'll like it.   None of us could finish the  hummus appetizer due to how it tasted.
*Baba Ganoush - Was delicious. Â Â My favorite of the appetizers here, although I wish it were topped with chopped pickled hot peppers versus straggles of lettuce and salad pieces that only serve to interfere vs enhance.
*Jajic (Yogurt & Cucumber) - I'm one to go light on salt and never salt my food, but this was flavorless and needed a packet of salt to pick it up. Â After trying it again, realized is also was lacking in garlic. Â Â
*Tabouli - Parsley was very fresh, but tasted rather plain and like it was still in the process of being made. Â I added more lemon and that helped.
*Chicken Sandwich - Was delicious. Â Love the 3 sauces they have that can go with it.
*Pita Bread - Â Liked that it was thin, so you weren't eating so much bread.
I was happy they opened, but am not very impressed with them anymore.
