Windy's Deli

From the DVDs, to the friendly staff, to the tasty/filling sandwiches, to the price, everything about Windy's is perfect for what it is. It's off the beaten path, but a great place to visit after you're done working out at Ratner, or if you just need a tasty Reuben.

I will keep going back. I've never been disappointed.

This is my favorite place in Hyde Park--and it's not just "good...for Hyde Park," either.  It's good, period.  No qualifications.

The other reviewers have pretty well captured the ambiance and overall quality of the offerings.  I'd just add that the owner is a genuinely nice guy.  He remembers all of his customers, greets them with a smile, asks how they've been, etc.  Cultivates a very neighborly vibe.  And the sandwiches are damn good and damn cheap.  I've gotten hot dogs, Italian beef, reubens, and hot pastrami, all extremely satisfying.  And like others have noted: the VHS selection is not to be missed.

Love this place! Their deli is amazing and very inexpensive. And while you're getting a pastrami on rye be sure to pick up a copy of the lastest Jackie Chan movie on VHS that you've been wanting for the last twenty years. Seriously, if this place ever closes part of me will die.
