This was definitely a date place. Â We went to try the wine, but didn't get any food (tapas mostly). Â The service was average and the ambiance was mellow/intimate. Â
They have a VERY extensive wine list. Â There were wine tasting options as well as wines by the glass. Â On top of that, they even had a list of over 600 wines you could buy by the bottle from their gallery floor. Â
I'd go back -- for date night, not pre-dinner drinks w/ the girls.
The food was excellent! We had a salmon salad and the meatballs, and both were wonderful! The salmon was very fresh and the meatballs were flavorful and delicious!
The wine was less impressive. I guess for $16 a glass, I expected to have my mind blown. I had a chardonnay that was average at best (in my opinion, not exactly a wino!)
My friend and I were by far the youngest people there. It's definitely not a scene for young 20 somethings.
The service was okay. We didn't get much attention from the bar tender, but when we went to pay, the internet was down, so it took a while for my credit card to go through. Another bar tender gave my friend and I taste of another wine (in one glass to share, which I found very, very odd) while we waited. It was a nice gesture, but like I said, odd execution.
Not planning to return any time soon.
I gave this place five stars for one reason ... there's not an option for six stars.
We've been coming to the Wine Gallery for a couple years now and, to say the least, it's like a home away from home. The owners and workers there are all extremely nice, they work hard to find the right wine for you and they honestly CARE about the people that come into their place. So much so that we decided on having our wedding party AT the Wine Gallery -- and they made it a day we'll never forget.
The most underrated aspect of the WG is the food. It's NOT your normal cheese/meat menu, boys and girls. Flatbreads, sliders, salads, tacos ... all made to perfection.
The overall "vibe" of the WG caters to everyone! People of all ages feel right at home there and with some fun background music and/or some sports on their TV, it's just a fun place to hang out for a spell.
And now, THIS bit of news -- was there on Sunday and they had live music! Acoustic guitar player Chuck Crowe played a fun set to an eager throng of wine-drinkers and it worked perfectly! Turns out, Chuck will be playing there every other Sunday so I will for SURE be there on May 5 for some more fun.
On behalf of everyone that frequents the Wine Gallery, THANK YOU for your great service, your quality wines/food and your friendship.
CHEERS!
Pretty. Much. Obsessed. - I LOVE coming here- great scene on Friday, especially for a date! Order the Mushroom Flatbread with a side of chocolate truffles for later! Very extensive wine selection. Ask for "Kelly" she is super friendly- added bonus: she's a sommelier! This place is one of my faves!
Review Source:This place is great!! Â What a surprise to find a bustling crowd, great wines & delicious menu. We had much help from patrons and the bar staff in selecting the right wine for our meal. They make sure your glasses are super clean, and filled. how many times have you had spotted glasses. Not at this place. they are Pro's.
Review Source:I was only here for a business event and cannot complain when everything is paid for by someone else. :) Â Parking was not easy but found one on the residential streets. Â The wine was okay. Â Ambiance was nice. We had the section by the window sectioned off for our group. Would like to try it again some day if I'm in the area.
Review Source:The Wine Gallery is one of my favorite local watering holes, for wine of course ;)... the ambiance is very quaint, decorated like a cozy tasting room you'd find at a winery... and the prices are pretty reasonable. The service is always great, too! It's a 5 star place for a great glass of wine.
Review Source:The Wine Gallery is a great little 'jewel' in Corona del Mar. Â I have been here several times with friends to check out the latest flights and discuss the finer points of wine. Â The owner Jim Huston is great! Â He is very knowledgeable and goes over and beyond to provide excellent service and comprehensive tasting notes about the wines. Â The Wine Gallery also has a nice selection of appetizers and is a great place to start an evening out in Corona del Mar!!
Review Source:Thanksgiving week in SoCal is always full of coffee and drink dates. For those evenings when I am in Newport Beach, nothing beats a nice glass of wine at Wine Gallery. And this time it was definitely one of the best.
I met my friend on Friday evening and the place was pleasantly crowded. We found a table in the back and were promptly greeted by Jim, one of the owners, who helped us our selection. We started with a Merlot, than we had a Bordeaux and a Cab. They were all very good, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was my favorite. We had those last two glasses when the place was already closed, but Jim was talking to a few friends and although everyone else was already gone, he poured us two glasses of wine and chatted with us a bit, telling us that he opened a store in Laguna Beach, which I am looking forward to go to during my next visit. He was so friendly and nice that made me want to move back from SF for a little of that little town vibe I sometimes miss.
The ambiance is casual and pleasant, the price is very good (especially considering the CDM location) and the service is superb! Wine Gallery is definitely a must for the wine lover!
This place is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. Â The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Â The owner is personable and knowledgable. Â We ordered the fruit and cheese plate and it was fresh and delicious.
I would definitely go here again. It's a good spot for a first date, to meet with colleagues or a good place to start before going out.
Good wine selection. The owner/manager? who helped us select our bottle of wine was very knowledgeable and helpful. We didn't order much food because we came here after dinner but everything that the people near us ordered looked tasty, so I will have to come back next time I'm in town. However, we did order a creme brulee to share for the table which we all enjoyed. The ambiance of the place is your typical wine bar but they had some nice decor touches that made them stand out... I especially liked the wine bottle chandelier. The only reason I took a star away was because the girl that was originally helping us with our wine selection did not seem to know much about wine. She tried to push their house syrah on us when we specifically told her we did not like it and wanted to get a bottle of another type of syrah. This exchange resulted in us sitting there without wine for about 15 minutes until the owner/manager helped us out.
Review Source:I was a wine broker for a few years, so when I walked in to this place I was a little skeptic  on whether or not there would be a legit selection... BOY was I wrong.. Who would of thought the teenage looking owner would know anything about wine... The selection is amazing, and the guy even knew what he was talking about. Got a great Pinot that he made himself ( I was also a little skeptic of) and it was GREAT.. Mile 216 it was called (or something).. I sat down to check out the food menu, and decided to order.  It got even better!  Perfect little bites to eat, and they all paired beautifully with the wines by the glass.  Get the Grilled Cheese and Tomato soup!! Or the Bruschetta w Goat Cheese!  I will deff. be back! We need more spots like this around! Great Work!!!!!!
Review Source:Masters of Wine. Beautiful Brick. Delicious flights. Specializing in Boutique-style Wineries. Knowledge. Kind. Passionate. Mmmmmm.
All of these things describe Wine Gallery. Â I love an interactive tasting... learning as we go...
They even carried wines we have not been able to find ANYwhere cause there were only a couple hundred cases made TOTAL. Â LOVE IT!
The guys who run this place or off the charts cool. I am sure they could answer just about ANY questions you would have about wine or the making of it.
We were in here on a Monday... and it wasn't busy... which we LOVED... cause we got to monopolize the time of our amazing hosts.
Can't wait to go back... they are in the middle of opening up the Laguna Beach location right on the PCH. FINALLY! A legit wine bar in LAGUNA! Cannot wait! I will be there for sure...
My overall recommendation: GO HERE!
Great place to grab drinks with friends or for a casual date. My friend and I met here for a little girls night and were delighted with our experience. I had a special "France vs. USA" wine tasting, where I got to compare varietals from (not surprising based on the name) France vs. those from the US. How fun! Reasonably (for CDM) priced too, especially with the 10% discount I got for checking in with Yelp!
OMG the cheese plate was AMAZING! Really interesting selection of cheeses including a five year aged cheddar and delicious sheeps milk gouda.
The owner, Chris, was super friendly and informative and I love that it is a locally run establishment where the owners are clearly passionate about their business and products. Apparently they are opening up in Laguna soon!
As a final note, great ambiance and a really nice flat screen for watching sports games as I learned as I watched the playoffs waiting for my slacker friend. My only criticism is that they are only open until 10, but they let us close out our tab and finish  our flight without rushing us :) Thanks!
Will definitely be back soon!
We brought a big group in, and this place accommodated us flawlessly. Â It's normal to add a gratuity on for large groups, and many places don't even allow individual checks. Â (The venue did circle the added gratuity to bring it to everyone's attention). Â Everything here, from the food, to the wine, to the excellent service we were provided, was top notch. Â Really had some of the best cheeses and the two best wines I've ever enjoyed here. Â
Highly recommended, even if you can only stay for 20-30 minutes. Â This place is a gem in Corona Del Mar!
Wine list = fan-fricken-tastic Â
Staff = very friendly, helpful, and capable Â
Food = tasty
I love that they have a choice for flatbread dough, white or wheat...Go skinny peeps!
Great cheeses!
Â
Roasted Tri-Tip quesadilla is soooooo good!
Beef sliders w/ truffle ketchup...oh yeah!
Â
And don't get me started on the burrata...I love *anything* w/ burrata!
Hummus - always changing and always good!
The staff....Stephanie, Matt, Chris, Jeff, Autumn and Jim are awesome!
My friend and I checked this place out last night. I was immediately impressed after walking in. It is way cuter than most "wine store meets wine tasting bar" spots. We got there early thinking it closed at 8 so we had a great seat. The wait staff was very attentive (checking in often) and the choice of food was amazing.
The place was packed by the time we left at 8:45 for a dinner reservation. When we passed by later after dinner, it was very busy. We will definitely go back and stay longer next time.
The wine selection for wines to purchase was great and a variety was offered. Great atmosphere!
Solid place for a glass of wine and some appetizers. Â Great atmosphere with a selection of really good wines. Â My wife and I had the Malbec and the Shine Syrah. Â Both of them really hit the spot. Â We also ordered the Hummus dip. Â That was really good too. Â
I thought that the service here was really great. Â Everyone who helped us was really nice, always checking in with us and seeing if we needed anything else. Â They even gave us a little taste of some wines after we had been talking to the bartender for a while.
The atmosphere is on point, too. Â The bar top is concrete, which gives it a pretty industrial feel, but still maintains a sophistication at the same time. Â And, there is a TV at the bar, which is nice. Â I don't typically love having a TV blaring at me when I am out, but it works at this place. Â There is a good mixture of casualness, but still offering top notch wine and food. Â My wife has been here before and had some of the other food, which she said was amazing as well. Â
And, they have a 10% off special if  you check in on Yelp.  Got to love that!  I will definitely be back here soon.
I am a partner in a shop/ bar back east and needed to grab a bottle for a client so I popped in here. I am a big fan of shopping local. The selection was great solid wines you could tell they have a buyer or owner who cares. Downside was I walked around for ten minutes and not a single employee asked to help. The bartender was to busy bragging about his CSW to a couple of cougars at the bar. It was maybe 5pm. At any rate I picked up a bottle of Merry Edwards and Ken Wright  PN ( both great wines)  and headed to cash register and received the same blow off. I wish our place was that busy to be able to blow off 70.00 in sales. Again rocking selection but lacks service.
Follow Up
Owner followed up with me personally which is a very solid move and shows he cares. I have not been back yet but I will, due to the follow up and coolness factor of manning up!
I've been dying to try this Wine Bar for a while now and finally had time to go with some friends. I wish I could say it was as good as I imagined but unfortunately this was probably the worst experience ever in terms of service. I was OKAY with the fact that they only had ten or so red and white wines and did not have any selection of dessert wines. So one of us ordered a beer and I ordered a glass of white. We ended up asking for an empty glass and sharing the white because I didn't like it the more I sipped. I was OKAY with the fact that it took a while to flag down someone each time I needed something. I was OKAY with the fact that they didn't even have any wines I wanted to really purchase that I couldn't find cheaper elsewhere. And I was only kind of OKAY when we all took turns wandering the store with no one stopping to help us answer questions or help us pick out wines.
What I was extremely annoyed with was the fact that when I asked for my check, the gal that grabbed my check went up to the server that helped us the most that night and basically criticized the fact that "they only ordered a glass of wine and beer and they even shared the wine." The bar was loud and those may not have been her exact words but I wasn't aware that it was appropriate to laugh and gesture at my table with my bill in your hand the way that she did. And I'm sorry if we asked for ANOTHER glass, because I'm sure you HAND wash each glass. Shame on me for wanting to not catch my friend's cold and ask for another glass so she could have some of my wine.
So if you like being mocked and ignored then, sure, this is a great place.
A wine bar with a TV? .... Oh, yes. Â Bucking the trend, at the Wine Gallery you can watch sports while enjoying fine wine. Â Love it. Â A "sports wine bar" is a great concept. Â Now, ladies, before you shun this place forever, rest assured there's only one TV and the Wine Gallery is a classy place.
The food is very good as well. Â We tried the goat cheese and mushroom plate. Â Very good.
And, if you really fall in love with a glass, there is a wine store attached.
I shouldn't have to wait for fifteen minutes in the wine shop while three employees wander the wine-shop/restaurant floor, make eye contact with me, ignore me, and then finally help me after I practically raise my hand and flag them down. Sorry I don't look like a master sommelier or corporate wine-buyer. I wanted to buy a nice 20-40 dollar wine for a friend as  thank-you gesture, and I could have been in and out in five minutes.
OK selection. Not much in the way of past vintages in reds, it was really hard to find anything that wasn't a big young cab or young New world Pinot Noir. They had some interesting Chateuneuf and Barolo, I ended up settling on some decent Malbec.
I would like to try the restaurant half to round out my review, but I'm from out of town. Trying to hammer out a wine sale during their busy bar time in the cluttered shop side was difficult, and they didn't make it any easier. But hey, it's only one visit. Three stars because I know they meant to do better.
Oh, yes...me likey. The Wine Gallery is a great local spot where you can check out a huge selection of wine, chat with some cool people, try awesome flights, and snack on yummy tapas style plates.
It's nicely decorated inside, with a nice long bar and separate table adjacent to it. The lighting is great and they light candles at night so ambience is perfect for dates but not too romantic for casual or professional drink meets. The guys here are awesome too: the owners Jeff, Chris, and Jim are super cool and have great suggestions if you're looking for something to please your wine-palate. Â Matt is the manager and always serves up some good wine recs if you ask. Josh, the chef, has super tasty charcuterie plates and makes yummy flatbreads.
The place does get crowded from Thurs through the weekend, so make sure you come early if you want to grab a seat. Â They usually do interesting flights on Thursdays, and sometimes the maker of the wine is there too, very cool. Â My fave wine bar in OC, and has the best vibe.
A hidden gem next to the Crow Bar in CDM. Â
It used to be just a wine shop but expanded in recent years for wine pairings and tapas style apps. Â
They have champagne splits for $35 (this is for french champagne, not sparkling wine) wine flights ranging from $15-$25 where you can sample different types of wines and wonderful flat breads, sliders, cheese platters and other apps to pair with wine. Â
It's small and intimate, but the staff know their wines. Â I perused the wine selections and there were a lot of great priced wines and they even carry Opus One for under $200 per bottle. Â
The WASP in me is very happy! Â :)
Been in a couple times. Â 1st was just to buy from shop - had what I was looking for. Â 2nd time I stopped in for drinks as well. Â Jim was very friendly and great guy to talk with (fellow Gaucho as well). Â I stopped on early Fri afternoon, so I look forward to going back to wine bar later in evening sometime. Â
Nice place to hang out and have couple drinks!!!
Great date place or get together with friends. Fun wine bar and a great local scene. Local boys own and operate this joint!
I love trying new wines and they now offer food pairings.
Great place to get the wines you need for yourself or gifts.
Tell the guys what you want and what you can spend and they will hook you up.
