The Wolf feels like that really awesome place you find on vacation that you WISH was in your town. Â The ambiance is stellar. Â It feels like you're in the Northwest, cool, irregular tables, water served out of mason jars, eclectic things hanging on the walls, very outdoor-adventure themed, LOTS of space to have meetings or meet with a larger group for lunch, great patio for nice days and even covered seating out front.
Then the menu!  There's nothing like it in West Co. Organic, local food.  Unique (niche) menu  items. Quality ingredients.  This is a foodie paradise. Â
Best of all, it's a locally owned business. Â No corporate conglomerate making you feel like it's local. Â Truly locally owned and responsive to its community. Â
Every time I'm there, I think, "why don't I come here more often?" Â And I'm there weekly! Â
The ONLY drawback is that at peak times the service can be slow. Â Everything is ordered at the counter and the knowledgeable staff take their time explaining menu items to patrons and so you have to wait. Â But it's all worth the wait, IMO.
I've waited for more than a week to post this review, thinkng my impressions were too harsh. But they weren't.
This is mostly about awful service.
The Wolf either needs more workers or more attentive workers. While I was there, two of the coffee urns were empty, and one patron had to ask for the half and half to be refilled. Shoudn't somebody be "on point" to be watching this stuff?
And they weren't busy this mid-afternoon Saturday.
I sat at the bar for 7 minutes before somebody asked me if I'd been waited on. Holy cow, if YOU haven't waited on me, you can pretty much figure nobody has. 'Cause I'm sitting there in my coat reading my book with absolutely nothing in front of me.
So, I got some assistance selecting a beverage. All was well, until my beverage was gone. 13 minutes later, and after I asked for a menu, I got another beverage.
So, the menu was sitting there for a really long time, and it doesn't take that long to peruse their menu. Sit, sit, sit.
And, yes, I had my book with me, so I was reading the entire time, and not particularly stressed, but I started noticing patrons pushing the coffee carafes to get coffee, and all that was coming out was air. Nobody said anything. And nobody DID anything!
I ordered a classic cheeseburger with smashed potatoes. Yes, that's what they call them and yes, that's what they are. And with the suggestion of my server, I got the cheeseburger with bleu cheese. That sounded just perfect.
However, my "server of the moment" forgot to put in my order.
So I sat and sat and sat. Reading and reading and reading.
When the food came, it was DELICIOUS!! The burger was spectacularly grilled, with lettuce, tomato and red onion. The bleu cheese on top was fabulous.
And the smashed potatoes, well they were dog-gone spectacular, too! I don't know why they were so good, but they were.
So I'm so torn on this review. The food was fabulously spectacular. The service was a big fat stink pot.
This place needs to stick around! Â Here are some things I love about The Wolf:
1. Â Many of the tables are made out of irregular-sized driftwood-like slabs. Â There are a bunch of different seating options and you can pick wherever you feel like sitting.
2. Â When you ask for water, you get to pick a mason jar instead of getting a crappy plastic cup. Â They're located next to the soda fountain and they also have lemon wedges available.
3. Â The whole place is outdoor activity-themed...hiking, biking, fishing, rock climbing, etc. Â The decor is very festive and makes you want to run around outside.
4. Â They offer a selection of fantastic local beers, including Civil Life, which is so exciting!
5. Â The quality of the food is unmistakable. Â It's as locally sourced as they can get, from the produce to the bread, and you can definitely taste the difference.
My favorite things are the Premo sandwich (salami, ham & provolone with marinated vegetables), the Mount Fuji (roast beef, roasted red peppers, cilantro, wasabi sauce) and the White Mountain grilled cheese (provolone, spinach, tomato). Â Also try the chopped salad with green goddess dressing-YUM!
I visited The Wolf Public House for a business networking event. The group had reserved the private room that easily held the thirty-plus people in attendance. I got in line to order my coffee and breakfast as I read the menu. There were many tempting offerings for breakfast including eggs, sandwiches, french toast, omelets and several baked goods. I chose the Trailhead sandwich (bacon, egg, cheddar cheese on a brioche bun).
The menu also listed several options for lunch and dinner. The lunch listings included a variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. The "Night Menu" offered appetizers, panini, pizzas and desserts. The selections of local and regional craft beers are worthy of a return visit.
After ordering, I was offered a real coffee cup which I appreciated. The coffee bar that was set up for our group included a Breakfast Blend and a Robust Blend. I had the Robust and it was delicious.
Soon after I sat down, my breakfast was delivered to me. The bread was toasted, the bacon was crisp and the scrambled eggs were firm. Because the Lone Wolf  follows a "safe, organic, sustainable" mantra, there wasnt a lot of seasoning on my sandwich. That's fine, I can shake my own salt and pepper. The sandwich was very tasty.
The ambiance is fantastic. Like a mountain lodge/log cabin. The meeting room has a small stage for weekly live music. The meeting room is also available to rent for special events.
I am looking forward to my next visit to The Wolf Public House.
I really love this place. It's a very unique environment--very campy, cabin-in-the-woods kind of feel. Their coffee is great and the food is good. It's a bit on the pricey side, but overall just fine.
They are usually busy in small spurts during mealtimes and during the slow periods in between it is a very chill environment--perfect for doing some work or reading.
Love the outdoors decor, the service and the entertainment. On my first visit, I went with a friend, during the summer 2011, and we had a couple drinks, a small pizza (?) and listened to an awesome guitarist/singer. My second visit, Â I had a coffee and a scone-yummy- was really tasty. They serve coffee drinks, beer and offer a small item menu. What a great place to sit with some friends with a bottle of wine, some munchies and some great music. Very inviting ambiance, like coming home after a long day. Â This is a keeper, St. Louis!! Â And, yep it's in the county!
Review Source:I discovered this place because I was desperately searching New Belgian Brewing Co's "Libation Location" for a spot to drink their fantastically delicious Super Cru. According to the website, The Wolf Public House is one of three local spots that carries it. So, off we went.
Though the Super Cru was nowhere to be found (sad), this place was still a great discovery. Beyond the fact that it's rustically adorable, they have live music at night, and their beer selection is impressively diverse. The food is pretty decent too - I opted for a turkey and brie sandwich with spicy mustard -- it was fresh and definitely spicy, with a side of fruit to make one healthy meal. The options are limited to sandwiches and salads for the most part, which leaves room for a highly caloric beer or two. In my opinion, this place has their priorities in the right place.
I just moved from the city to west county a few months ago, and I am already growing weary of Panera. Â On a whim I decided to check this place and it's great! Â It's set up a lot like Kaldi's (place order at counter, they bring it to you, you put away your own plate). The place is huge, yet cozy, and had plenty of outlets for the laptop. Â I had an iced caramel macchiato, which wasn't too sweet, and a Mt. Fuji sandwich (sirloin, wasabi sauce, red onion, red pepper). I loved the roll that the sandwich came on - very soft and delicious - the sirloin was fantastic and the wasabi sauce did a great job of clearing my sinuses. Â The lady at the counter was super nice, and after I was finished she actually came to by to clear my tray and ask me how the food was (that never happens at Panera). Â I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the food!
Review Source:I know this place has a lot of loyal customers who post reviews, but as some one who is new to the place, come prepared to wait. Â This was some of the slowest service I have ever experienced. Â I ordered oatmeal, if you are familiar in a setting like this, oatmeal is made in advance and it is a matter of dumping it in the bowl and dumping a serving of fruit on the plate. Â I waited over 20 min for oatmeal--then they brought out the wrong order for my dining companion (who btw also ordered oatmeal), so 10 minutes later I got a bowl of cold oatmeal and she got a bowl of hot. Â I counted at least 5 people behind the counter -- a young guy doing all the cooking by himself and the rest of the staff hanging out and chatting. Â There were a total of maybe 10 customer so it was not like they were busy. Â If you are a regular and you like talking to the staff great but warning to new customers don't bother unless you have an unlimited time to muck around. Â Also if you like to have your food hot and your order prepared properly that seems to be a challenge for this place also!!
Review Source:I'll set up potential scenes:
~You've just biked 40 miles in the county with 3 of your closest friends and you're looking for an awesome, hearty breakfast. Come here.
~You've just spent the night at your boyfriend's condo in Chesterfield after a wild night downtown and need hangover food STAT. Come here.
~You've just left your in-laws who live in Ballwin and need a place to grab a nutritious meal before you head back home to Chicago. Come here.
(I am fit one of those three scenarios! Care to guess which?!)
Not only does this place have a great selection of food and drinks, they have music/entertainment on weekend nights. As the owner has put it, they are trying to bring some culture from the city, into the county.
Fun spot. Highly recommend!
I love coffee shops and it's hard to earn a 5 star review from me. To me a 5 star review means I can't think of anything that would improve the place.
The Wolf Public House (formerly Lone Star Coffee) has wonderful fresh food that is reasonably priced and offers items that you won't find on every menu across town. They have very fast service, tons of seating options (the main cafe room, a couch area, an adjoining room good for large groups and an outside patio). Plus the coffee includes free refills and they have free wifi with plenty of outlets.
I'm used to going to coffee shops in urban areas, so a place with a parking lot is also appreciated.
The only drawback for me is that it is too far from my house to make visits convenient, so I tend to swing by when I'm selling homes in Chesterfield or Ballwin.
I've never been there in the evening, but they apparently have live music and beer too.
The Wolf is a welcome respite in a part of town where you expect chain restaurants. If they decided to open a satellite location closer to U City or the city, I'd invest!
Not a bad place at all. Great food and drinks. As you probably already know Lone Wolf is a coffee place, which I am more a fan of there frappiconnios just because... There food is also very great they have great rolls and muffins as well as main courses. Definitely a place to try again!
Review Source:Yes, I am a non-coffee drinker. What does that mean? I can't really tell the difference between lots of different coffees, but I do know I drink it with 3 Splendas and preferably hazelnut creamer. And yet, here I am, rating a coffee company, haha.
I went to Lone Wolf Coffee Company for a morning meeting with a friend. He told me there was cheap breakfast there, which of course, I couldn't say no to. I was so very pleasantly surprised, however, to find that the food was not only cheap but fantastically fresh and delicious (I was tempted to type "so clean, clean," but that wouldn't make sense here... sadness).
I had their Cordon Bleu, which is a nice omelette with ham and cheese and scallions. It was only $3.95 and came with a cup of fresh fruit. I also had the chance to taste their "Trailhead Temptation," which is a delish breakfast sandwich with bacon cheese and egg. I even bought a cup of coffee. They had Splenda and regular creamer, which worked for me.
Overall, the food was great and the atmosphere is very nice. The place was well kept and very clean. I'd say definitely check out their breakfast options! I'm tempted to go back and try some of their other foods.
To start off, Â the name of the coffee shop is just plain B.A. - "Lone Wolfe." Â
A-Whoooooooooo!
I was first introduced to this coffee shop when I ran a midnight 5K run, which began with a howling a real wolf. Â And ever since that night, I've been a loyal fan. Â
When it comes to coffee, I am a Starbucks junkie. I like my cup of Joe bold & strong. And I would say that Lone Wolf's Midnight Express or Full Moon (my favorite) match or even top Starbucks quality.
The place also serves variety of food items for breakfast and lunch, which are all well priced.  I am a big fan of their salads.  They pile up fresh greens and each salad has an unique flavor/twist to it - like their Fièsta Festìva salad that comes with Julienne grilled chicken, roasted corn & grilled red peppers served w/ tomato, jicama & tortilla threads over mixed greens w/cilantro-chile-lime dressing.  Yum!
One unique thing about the coffee shop is that there's a corner for local musician to just come by and jam on their instruments. Â You can play your one-hit wonder song and impress the crowd. They also have LCD tvs around the coffee shop that are tuned into CNN & ESPN (my favorite).
This is a local business that definitely gives back to the community - hosting events like "Fly Fishing Tying" night, Arctic National Wildlife Photo Gallery night, etc. Â
I guarantee that this coffee shop is worth a visit - especially for the West Country folks. Once you step in, you will be sucked into its unique way of life. Â A-Whoooooooooo!
Great Local Coffee shop. Not a huge fan of the coffee, but the food is Amazing. The grilled cheese is the best in St.Louis. I love the woodsy amtoshpere. It is like a cross between a Lodge and a coffee shop. They play live music a few nights and drinks are really affordable.
I keep getting told that my dog Max looks like the "Lone Wolf" in the pictures on the wall at the Lone Wolf, and well that is becuase the pictures are of Max and he is an Alaskan Malamute. If you see us here on the patio feel free to say high. Max is friendly to anyone who bribes him with a bagel. :)
Think St. Louis Bread Co meets Caribou Coffee (do you have those in St. Louis?)., but with a local flare.
Pretty neat place. Went there for lunch, had a great soup and salad combo. Looks like they have all kinds of tasty soups and salads.
The lady working behind the counter was really friendly, and told me that they have live music and speakers sometimes in the evenings, seems like this place has a lot going on. Looks like it is striving to be the Mecca of chill coffee houses in the Ballwin area, and it probably won't disappoint.
Definitely worth checking out.
Lone Wolf Coffee Company has a cozy atmosphere with an outdoorsy decor, a fireplace and wi-fi. They have a unique offering of salads and sandwiches (paninis, flatbreads, gourmet cheeses), homemade chips, fresh soups, coffee and espresso drinks, teas and baked goods. Â My husband loved the unsweetened rasberry green tea and the marrakesh chicken sandwich on flatbread with a seasoned yogurt sauce. Â I thought the black bean, rice and tomato soup was delicious - fresh with zip! Â I've been twice so far and it's one of those places I look forward to going back so I can try more of the menu items, as it was so hard decide each time.
