Until recently I've only ever been to Woody's seeking a bar scene. This is pretty standard for Royal Oak. Woody's does have a little bit of an advantage since it has three different levels that all have different sort of scenes for different crowds. The first level is the most casual and relaxed. The second level charges a cover and it's the most like a dance club. I always have a pretty good time here. And the third level is the roof which is really great when it's warm and is definitely one of Woody's biggest assets that gives it an edge over the other popular places downtown. I'm here pretty frequently so I obviously don't have much to complain about!

Yesterday I went here for the first time during the day. It was Sunday and they had a  $2 Bloody Mary special. It was much quieter but the waitress was really nice, the drink prices were good and the pizza was delish!

Somehow there were still creeps that had to be dodged. This is standard for RO but I thought maybe Sunday afternoons were an exception. I was wrong. Haha. Still though, I know I will back

I like it here. Quite the contrarian I see to the other reviews.
But when I am in the mood for an afternoon of cheap bottled domestic beer, a relatively empty bar, some Club Keno, some TV's , and some very salty and very delicious and very free unlimited popcorn then this place is just what the doctor ordered.

and we don't eat here and  usually depart by 8 PM, so I can't comment on the late night woodys.

I've done the rooftop summer scene a few times and I can't complain. It's a bar. It's a rooftop. What else are people expecting?

It's a divey party bar.  If you're expecting anything else...don't go.

Rooftop availability when the weather's nice, and a large, spacious room on the 2nd floor for large groups to congregate.

Friendly staff, great beer selection, solid drink specials, and the food's not too shabby either.

Had a very positive experience bring a few hundred people there, even in the height of summer...although it would've been nice if they would've cranked the air conditioner to "max" BEFORE we showed up at 4pm because it was a bit of a heatbox until it caught up as a thunderstorm rolled through...

...but still, "solid".  Definitely some place we'll be keeping on the roster.

A sloppy spot near the Royal Oak train tracks suffers from chronic douchitis and sticky floors.

I only visited in the daytime as part of the events for my writing group, and we get together a few times over the winter here. Not my arrangements, I just show up. The second floor reserved for special events ends up being ours for an afternoon. We end up having the space to ourselves without the problem of polo-wearing drunks stumbling in or being a nuisance when you're just trying to have a nice day out with friends. The ambiance after hours is such that the one time I popped in, we left after fifteen minutes of being ignored, and went elsewhere for a drink.

Woody's could be better, I think. At least by daytime, the attitude problems are a shame because the menu looks pretty nice and the food actually isn't that bad. Some of the options definitely need some spicing up -- anything Mexican, for example -- and the pasta portions are too much noodle, not enough topping to be satisfactory. The sandwiches are quite large and usually my friends end up splitting them or ordering appies because the portions are too much for a single person. Notably the prices are higher than average for lunch selections.

Upstairs by day isn't too crowded, with a pool table and bar stools, but I imagine at night it gets to be a madhouse. Even in the middle of the afternoon, the sound downstairs percolates up and we're trying to unpeel ourselves from the floors. Don't bother with the bathrooms if you can help it and use the downstairs ones, as they seem marginally cleaner. Normal dive bar rules apply.

Daytime service left a hell of a lot be desired, even with plenty of advanced notice. The waiters are slow and prone to messing up simple orders, delivering things to the wrong people or just plain not bringing them food at all. Drink service was a bit better, though refills came at a glacial pace despite asking for pitchers of pop or whatever the poison of the day was. Getting billed out is always a pain; first getting your cheque in the first place, then getting your card processed or change back from cash.

You could do a whole lot better in a 3 block radius, but it's hard to do worse.

As one of two roof top spots in Royal Oak, Woody's is most definitely divey. The inside smells like stale beer and disappointment but the roof is mostly clean and uncluttered and the drinks are reasonably priced and made well enough. On busy nights this roof gets to be pretty busy but for an afternoon cocktail it's a nice option to have. I can't vouch for the food but at the very least you'll have a great vantage point for both, people watching and the occasional close call between cross walkers and the Amtrak trains passing by.

Despite having a rooftop bar, this place still manages to get one star. The bouncers are total jackasses who think they are hot s***. This attitude is most likely caused by the behavior of the trash that frequent this place (mostly from out of town, mainly downriver).

Drink prices are comparable to 5th Ave, but at Woody's you have the pleasure of taking that $6 house tequila shot out of a plastic cup!

Downstairs is terrible, and its $5 to go upstairs.

Bartenders here are slow, very slow (probably because they don't get tipped well from the trash inside the bar).

This is my LEAST FAVORITE BAR IN THE ENTIRE WORLD (I'd estimate I've been to 300+ bars all over the country and abroad).

My review is written for one time and one time only - Saturday lunch with my wife and kids.  I dig this place because it's not busy, the wait staff and servers are very nice and it's wide open.

My girls love getting popcorn while we wait for food and always love when the little train is in motion.

The menu is bar food and nothing spectacular but seriously, we feel like we own the place on a Saturday at Noon and they are always attentive to us.

Get some wings, a sandwich or a salad and it's ok, nothing special but yeah, I dig how this place is good for lunches and my kids find a hot dog or macaroni if they want.

As for nights, I remember this place being packed and smoke filled years ago.  I can't imagine what it's like nowadays - I have kids - those days are long gone!!

I'd love to drop a one-star on this place, but that'd be unfair.  There are some positives: It has one of only two roof-top decks in Royal Oak (the other one is at Red Fox), it's one of the few places where you can dance, and attractive people generally frequent the place (i.e. there are hot chicks).  The owners are also nice people, but that won't impact the everyday experience.

But there are just so many douchbags.  If you see a group of loud-mouthed, barbed-wire tattoed, striped-shirt wearing idiots with paste-sculpted hair moving with purpose on a Saturday night in RO, there's a 90% chance they're headed to Woody's.  The other 10% are headed to BlackFinn, O'Toole's or 5th Ave.

Oh, and the food is mediocre.  There's actually a pretty wide selection of stuff, but none of it is that interesting or that good.

If you're looking for a place to get blasted (actually, it's probably better to show up blasted), dance shoulder-to-shoulder with douchey suburbanites, and hit on people in a carefree manner, then it's not a horrible option.  Otherwise, don't bother.

Witnessed the most backwards attempt at throwing a NYE event ever...

To be fair I was a skeptical about going here in the first place but I couldn't have made up what happened next.

Was first made to wait 15 minutes outside in the elements for no reason while friends were already inside.

After moving inside was forced to wait another 30 minutes while staff tried to get their act together (it was getting close to 11).

Tried to figure out wtf was going on with who I thought was management who implied $100 would 'end the wait'.

****Only a review of their New Year's Eve party.****

In town for New Year's, I didn't have much of a say, if any, on where we'd be spending our night.  Woody's was chosen for having only a $20 cover charge which included an appetizer buffet, a champagne toast, and pizza at 1:00 am.  Another reason I dislike cheap people...

The appetizer buffet included items that were probably bought in bulk at Costco and thrown in a deep fryer a couple of hours before the party began.  Everything was fried and cold.  The drinks were stout, but the lines were ridiculous.  On this classy night, the crowd was extremely young (think college-age with fake IDs), who seemed to drop more drinks than actually consume.  This made it extremely difficult for dancing.  The floor was a mess!  I witnessed several people slip and fall on the *cement* floors.  I realize it was New Year's Eve, but the bathrooms were vomit-covered with girls passing out in the stalls.  I know I sound like an old woman, and I'm only 25, but I expected more from a bar in Royal Oak.

Let me be blunt: Woody's is bad. You know a place has problems when the best thing it's known for is it's outdoor roof deck.

I had the fries and buffalo wings. The waitress was slow and the food was bad. The wings tasted frozen (tough meat) and the buffalo sauce had no kick to it at all. It was practically flavorless. To make matters worse, the view from the roof isn't even nice.

Do yourself a favor and go to a good restaurant in Royal Oak. Might I suggest Cafe Muse, the crepe restaurant next to the Amtrak station, Bastone or even Leo's Coney Island. All of those restaurants provide far more delicious food with much better service. If you're looking for a bar, check out Black Fin or the piano bar on 6th street near Washington.

To review: This place sucks. Avoid it like the plague.

My four stars are mostly in regards to the food, which is pretty good. I have been on the second and third floors several times during the late night hours and I think it's a bit ridiculous to pay $5 to get upstairs.

Downstairs is where we usually hang out for some beers and some food. This place does have some pretty good selections in terms of food. Beer and liquor prices are pretty standard fare, so nothing special there.

You couldn't pay me to go back here.  When my husband  ordered wings that came out  too spicy  for him to eat, the manager took 40 minutes to come to our table to find out what was wrong, then refused to exchange them.  Oh, and very rudely.

Royal Oak has far to many decent places to bother with this hell hole.

This is by far my favorite bar ever.

I'm not rating their food. Their food is mediocre. I don't remember it well enough (as i was always drunk here). If you're here for the food. You must be kidding me. There are so many good restaurants in royal oak; why'd you come here for dinner?

Oh well. Best part are the pitchers. They're $5 a pitcher (domestic) we always go and get annihilated off them. You have to get your pitcher on the second floor and bring them up on the third floor.

If you live in royal oak. You'll most likely hate it because you'll see all your high school friends here. I can understand this; thus the poor ratings.

Also, If you're a whiny cheap broke girl you may not like to pay the $5 for cover (get a real job).  It's worth the $5 to enjoy the summer air, stare at the stars, the loft next door and the decent view from the rooftop especially if you get there early and get a table with all your friends. Maybe even play flip cup.

Then after getting tipsy you make a fool out of yourself on their dance floor on the second floor (which always gets nuts).

Since i've moved away from Michigan i still think this bar has the best rooftop so far. I haven't been able to find a bar with an awesome rooftop since. Always fun stories had here and memories that we cannot remember vividly.

It's always decently packed and it's always fun young people watching and seeing all the Bachelorette parties roll through.

    Overall.
If you don't like drinking excessively you may not want to go here. Or if you're just cheap because you don't like paying cover because daddy pays for everything. lol.

I really dislike this place. It is loud and the waitstaff is horrible. The food isn't bad for barfood. I hate that there's a cover to get in and then once you get in and decide its horrible you've already spent your $5 so you feel completely robbed leaving. Would not recommend

My husband and I went with our two (adult) children and sat on the top deck outside.  We ordered wraps, a corned beef sandwich and I had fajita wraps.  We also had a pitcher of beer and split 2 desserts between the four of us.  Our waitress was very prompt and attentive.  She brought our beer right away and we put our order in right away.  There were several groups of kickball and softball teams there also, so for a Monday night at 8pm, it was pretty busy.  Our food arrived in about 8-10 minutes and it was all very tasty.  We really liked sitting up on the top deck, as it was a beautiful evening and the Tiger game was on TV as well.  I certainly would return.  The prices were reasonable and our service was great!  Yes, it's bar food for the most part, but it's a bar--we are not talking Coach Insignia here!  We will return for sure!

My review of Woody's is mostly based on the restaurant, not the bar.  I lived in Royal Oak for six years, and Woody's is the place where my husband and I would go when we'd want some decent food at a casual place.  The food is good, tastes like home cooking.  I don't think I've ever tried anything I didn't like.  Our favorites are the chicken caesar sandwich, the spicy shrimp appetizer, and my husband really likes the beef tips.  The soups are good too.  The service is usually very good, but there is one waitress we try to avoid--she's terrible.  She practically glows from her fake tan, so she's easy to spot.  We like going there to watch football games; we used to go to Mr. B's, but there was always obnoxious people there on game days.  Woody's restaurant is a good place to bring kids too (but not to the bar, of course!).

The night club on the 2nd floor is for the younger crowd.  We occasionally like going on the rooftop for drinks with friends in the summer.

Update: I just have to say that my wife wrote this review.  I did not realize this until now.  So no, I did not attend a bachelorette party.

Does not even deserve a star!!! I went to attend a bachelorette party here Friday night and first the bartender was absolutely rude. I ordered 2 shots of patron, three times the shots had to be dumped out because there were stuff floating in the drink!!! Its either in the drink itself is contaminated with who knows what or the plastic cups (yes plastic cups!!!!!) were not clean. The bartender was frustrated he was making it the fourth time and thought he could just sell it to me with black stuff floating on it!!!!! Im not an idiot so I told him I don't want to drink whatever they make there anymore! So before you decide to get drunk  and drink there make sure you look at what your drinking and please for your health safety don't order anything dark or you won't be able to see the dark stuff floating in you drink!! And if you decide to go there be warned ladies... it's all 16-18 year old boys trying to pretend they are over 21!!!! A lot were in there with fake IDs!!

One of the first bars I had went out to in Royal Oak. Like everyone pretty much stated on here, filled with drunk douches and girls who just want attention.  The beer was a little over priced, and tasted kind of flat.

The roof has an amazing view and I recommend heading up there (it costs $5 to go anywhere else besides the first and second floor) if you can push your way through the people that won't move even if you say excuse me.

Also FYI there is a $10 minimum on using your CC.  All in all I say this should be one of your last stops if you're planning a bar night in Royal Oak so that you are drunk enough to deal with the people that you're going to encounter.

Ehh... I was torn between two and three stars.  I went with three because my only experience with Woody's was on Arts Beats & Eats weekend.

We wanted to grab some more beer before walking around Royal Oak and the $5.25 pints they were selling as part of the festival was pretty darn pricey so we walked into Woody's.

It took a while for the waitress to come over but that's understandable for the number of tables and people she was dealing with.  We over heard that food orders were taking about an hour so decided to stick with just the beer.

We inquired as to what beer was on draft and prices for a pitcher, pint, or 20 oz.  She informed us of the different beers and we tentatively decided on a pitcher of Killians.  She told us it would be $15 for the pitcher.  A little pricey we thought, still less than the beer outside with all the crowds and obnoxious strollers, but it sounded good.

The pitcher arrived in a timely fashion but upon first pour seemed pretty watery.  I know, you're thinking, "Its a Killians.  How much can you expect?!"  To be honest, a better beer than the one we were served.

Fast forward about 30 min, check arrives, and to our surprise the pitcher was only $12.25.  No complaints about that!  Overall our stop at Woody's wasn't too bad.  Nothing outstanding but it did offer more affordable beer and a rest bit from the chaos outside.

I am with Keri P on this one.

My experience was OK for the most part except for the first hour, there was a huge party with kids present and the drunk fools who were supposed to control these over indulged little twerps, absolutely did not!
The little (you know whats) were running about, had their faces in the popcorn machine, spilled food all over, were loud and did I mention running all about...literally playing tag in the bar area. Who brings kids to a bar for dinner anyway...ever heard of Chucky Cheese?

It was not the fault of the bar, so i am rating appropriately!

After the chaos left and we enjoyed another round of drinks, and ordered our food. The food was a sort of typical bar/restaurant food type of choice...and mine was prepared and tasted as expected.

The prices were decent on both food and beverage, and the service was pretty good! The cleanliness was great AFTER the team of workers had to come out and scour the place after the little tornado's left!

The place started lighting up soon after that, and a train of the booty-call-brigade started to come in one after another and head upstairs (of course not all), and the others stayed downstairs and socialized. Like two different worlds.
Luckily we arrived prior to the door dudes taking their security posts, they were lets say, very thorough...not something my crowd prefers to deal with!

I did have a chance to hang out on the roof on a previous visit, which I thought was outstanding, but did not make it up there this visit.

Me and my buds will certainly continue to make this a regular option and choice when coming to the great city of RO, next time maybe I will try bringing some OFF in case of another pests infestation.

I have never had a bad experience here, but also nothing too remember-able.
The first time I came with a large group of friends and we stayed downstairs for a majority of the time. It was quiet enough to chat with each other yet you could hear just enough music from the upstairs so your conversations didn't carry over to everyone else. A friend ordered us a round of johnny vegas's and they tasted like anything but a johnny vegas. Since she is a bartender (at a different venue) she complained to the manager, he smelled the empty glass and agreed, so we got another round for free, and this time it actually tasted like a johnny vegas, YAY!
Next we went upstairs to dance, and it was a lot of fun, except for a $5 cover charge in order to leave the first level, I would be much more pleased with the place if that was taken away, or just made minors pay it.
If you are a single guy there is always a bunch of girls running around the place, but by witnessing my boyfriend try to help his single friends out, a lot are very stuck up or trashy.... which trashy I understand, but at woodys, stuck up.. ummm hello we're not at a 5 star club.

I recommend going for a fun time if you go in not expecting to be blown away, prices are fair, music is good, rooftop is awesome in the summer, and they offer food at the end of the night for drunks. I will def keep returning until I run into some problem! I mean the bathrooms are nasty, but what else to you expect from bars filled with drunks?!?1

Bar review only, will do a food review later when I actually go.

Woody's has always been a joke amongst my friends. Its the place for trashy bros and desperate hoes. Booty music and shitty watered down drinks. Expensive shots and just a general smell of failure at life. So I decided to go on a Tuesday. Mainly because it was my friends going away party.

They had a really descriptive sign out front that said "$2 Pints", which is apparently only domestics. Their Newcastle tap was totally screwed up and the beer tasted like someone had put it through their digestive system and back into the keg. It was bad. The Blue Moon was slightly better, but its Blue Moon. Apparently wells were $2, but seeing as I had to drive, no.

Service was a fucking joke. They had three people working the rooftop, two bartenders and one server. The server sat behind the bar most of the time. The bartenders just really didn't seem to know what was going on and seemed upset that I didn't want their nasty Newcastle draft.

The crowd was a mix of normal people, mega douches, drunk dudes and like, a few couples. It was to be expected. The rooftop is pretty damn cool, even though EVERY female was complaining it was cold.. it was like 73 out during the day, do you think its going to get warmer at night? You can look attractive and not wear a denim skirt you know. Oh, and when I stopped to take a leak in the downstairs bathroom, the sink was filled with vomit. Classy.

So yeah, I don't want to go back. However, I will to try the food because I heard its good. I just won't return at night, its almost as though the living douche (or dead, since many seemed brain dead) come out at night.

If you are over 21 you probably should avoid this place ! On nights when I yearn to revisit the yester years of of Wet T shirt contests and booty dancing music I have stopped by ( the people change, but this place stays the same)
The upper deck is fun on a hot summer night. Definitely opt out of going here if you are looking for food or for a quiet and relaxing place, and if you are over 30 you probably should avoid it altogether, people will give you weird looks, me being one of them.

unfortunately i was taken here during a birthday pub crawl.
    douchey, douchey, douchey.
this place is like the Washington DC of doucheville.
as a restaurant it's no good all around.  but most people come here for the nightlife.
if you like overly tan and dumb women then head on down.
they actually charge 5dollars to go up to the second floor.  it has a dance floor smaller than a child's bedroom and they offer nothing in the way of a nightclub.
the bouncers act like assholes the entire time just standing around and pushing people out of the way with their sausage fingers.
the drinks are seriously overpriced.  i paid $29 for two vodka cranberries (not top shelf) and two cherry bomb shots.  did the shots cost 10 dollars each and the drinks 4.50 each? wtf!
    never again

Yeah, you can say it's a bit of a dive. Yeah, it can be a bit loud. Yeah, it's kind of hard to get someone to go to "Woody's" with you.....not that you were running to go here in the first place.
But ever since my first visit here, I was pleasantly surprised, and I've enjoyed every visit I've made since then.
If I want to go to a watering hole and expect nothing else out of it, not meeting people or killing off a few hours of a weekend, this is perfect. The prices of the alcohol alone will keep me coming back.
A pint of Guinness, a Grey Goose mixed drink or a Tanqueray martinis for less than 5 bucks each? Can't go wrong there.
I can't say I've seen dancing or any indication that this is a "club", but I was on the main level and didn't check out the upstairs or downstairs areas, so I could definitely be mistaken.
And even if this is a club, I'm not entirely sure I'd want to spend an evening here, but I'll keep coming back to start off an evening with a couple of drinks.

I'm not really a huge fan of Woody's food, but I went there to drink for the first time since turning 21 and was really satisfied with the service and product. I ordered a peppermint schnapps with hot cocoa, and it was only $4. At the Emory in Ferndale, I was charged $6.50 for a drink of a little lower quality. The waitress was really friendly, and I would definitely return again.

First and last time at this place. Grant it I am more of a dive bar, sit in front of a TV type place but I like to try new things and the rest of my class was going there for a bar crawl. I am not too old, 26, but this place makes you feel like you are at a teen club. The stupid music and lights, people trying to act way cooler than what they are, and d-bag bouncers walking around monitoring (are we at homecoming?) the dance floor. I can't remember the last time I have been to a bar with more than one bouncer, I just don't go to places that need them I guess and apparently this place does for the stoopid rules and people that go there. Even with my friends there I left in an hour. Beer was too expensive too.

    BUT
i have a good time here because I take it all in with a grain of salt. When I go there I know I'm going to sweat & that's ok. And I don't dance like a stripper. I dance like a fool who is just having a good time and I get people around me to dance just as crazy. I like the DJ So I go to get crazy when Im bored of Royal Oak.

Okay, I haven't been to Woody's since I was underage and they used to let me in with my piece of shit fake id.

THat being said, I was never a fan.  A place that markets to an overgrown spring break crowd is not my idea of a good time.  The smell of mystic tan, aqua de gio and Axe body spray waft through the place like a heavy fog.  Apparently the way to go for chicks here is mininmal clothing.  I think you'd be better off trying to count the chicks ACTUALLY wearing underwear under thier skirt than the ones that aren't.

That being said, I also have a real problem with a bar, because that's what it is kids, a BAR, charging to get to the roof.  I don't undertand the reason behind this, because the last time I checked, we were in Royal Oak, Michigan.

I don't know anythign about the lower floors and have only been upstairs.  The bartender up there was decent, in fact I'll give her 3 stars.  Shots and mixed drinks are watered down and it the draft beer tastes like the lines haven't been cleaned in a while.  You'll get hit on by guys in Ed Hardy t-shirts who are fist pumpling each other and calling each other "pussies" to look cool in front of chicks.

The music is awfuls, a mix of everything, but everything crappy.

I do not recommend it unless you have spiked hair, orange skin and where overpriced hideious t-shirts.

Since moving to Royal Oak Ive come to a simple conclusion regarding Woodys. Never go there after 8pm........

because I know the girls there aren't my type, and secondly why pay a 5 dollar cover charge to go upstairs and sweat your rear end off and have the music so loud you cant even have a conversation if you meet someone new.  I usually stay downstairs and not go there in the summer time for these reasons.

The food at Woodys is acutally pretty good, but I would imagine they are trying to serve less and try to get people upstairs faster.

Maybe if I was a 21 year old college girl or on the prowl for some guy to take home with me the same night I meet him I could appreciate Woody's more.

Alas, I am neither of those.  I am simply looking for a place to hang out with some friends, watch a game on tv, have a couple of drinks and maybe dinner.

Apparently, this is too much to ask from Woody's.

First off, parking in Royal Oak is always a pain.  I think this is why I've become such a fan of Clawson, not only because I live there, but because parking is free and plentiful.  That aside, last night I had to show ID at 6:30pm!  WTF?  A bouncer sitting outside while a 3 year old was happily munching on fries inside.  Since when did 6:30 turn into the new going out clubbing time?

Once inside, I met up with my group of friends.  We were on the first floor, sitting right next to the waitress station area, so you'd think people would always be coming over to help us, right?  WRONG.  Everyone had to go up to the bar for their drinks, and finally, after 30 minutes, I walked up to a waitress and asked who ours was and she said "whoever gets there first, what do you need?" and I said "well, there are 9 people over there that want to order food and no one has come to our table once".

Several minutes later, menus finally came, and we had to flag down someone yet again to place our order.  But drinks?  Forget about it, we got quicker service at the packed bar.

Finally, food eaten, drinks drank, we were waiting for our bill.  I finally got tired of it and, thankfully, having remembered how much mine cost, put down money for my portion and left.  People were still waiting for the bill, and it would be very easy to just walk out, one by one, without paying.  I probably would have had I not thought karma would get me later.

They do make a good bar pizza though, that's about all they've got going for them.

So, I was trying to show a friend from TN the nicer/trendy areas of metro detroit.....we got hungry, walked passed woody's, decide to go in. First Mistake. Everything was fine while we were greeted and sat. Whom ever sat us, was very friendly. Then We get to the blind leading the blind.... One girl drops off our water because our waitress is clearly "too busy" mind you, when I work, I command upwards to 13 tables...so 3 tables to me, when one is done...IS NOT busy. Whatever, Maybe she's new. No set dress code, which is fine, and relaxed...and maybe my personal opinion that wool boots and booty shorts shouldn't be worn while serving tables...that may just be me. So she gets to our table, with a girl shes apparently training whom I immediately felt sorry for after she uttered the words " What do you want to eat, or have you figured it out yet?" and stuttered while saying so...My first thought....are you serious? we place our order, sit, watch two more tables walk in, the larger get served while the couple that sat in the booth in front of us were ignored and eventually got up and walked out after not being greeted or even acknowledged.  What I assumed to be the owner was sitting with buddies eating and helping running food to the all of like 5 tables this server had and not even paying attention to all the empty glasses and the fact that two patrons just walked out....now being a server you notice things like that around you and you know the 5 min it takes to refill drinks that you could send your trainee to do. (mind you her trainee was waiting on one of her 5 tables) After our empty glasses sat there and we finished our meal then she asked if we wanted refills and dropped off our check and told us have a good day....Not intending on returning to the table as im sure if we needed change...we would have had to hunt her down.

I don't know if all those girls are currently training or what it is, but I surely would not go in unless I was tricked or they were giving things away for free. That seriously had to be the worst service I have ever received.

Wow, what can I say that hasn't already been said 100 times before.  Maybe it's because I can't dance, but gun to my head, I'd have to say that the people who frequent there leave something to be desired, I ALWAYS walk out smelling like an ashtray, and the staff are indifferent (although if I had to deal with the patrons that frequent Woody's I would be too, so I don't blame them).  Not to mention that, like other bars in R.O. you have to pay a fee to walk upstairs to another, even more crowded bar.  Someone's making some money on that.

So I guess I'm not Woody's target demographic, I'm over 25, graduated college, and don't feel the need to black out every weekend.

Sorry Woody's, you've got a prime space, but that's about it.

Can you say "meat market"? I really like how the website states that this place is "The Only Dance Club in Royal Oak" considering that Luna Lounge is also in Royal Oak. The only thing this place is good for is free entertainment after the bars let out. Simply park your car on 5th avenue on a Friday or Saturday and you're almost guaranteed to see a fight break out on the street (Provided that it's not too cold outside).

Walking in, we were greeted by 2 unpleasant bouncers who informed us that to get up to the "dance floor" we had to fork over $3. OK, so three bucks is nothing comparatively, but the place was empty at 10:00pm.

So, it was early and no one was here just yet... The drinks were not as cheap as one would think for a bar with wood panelled walls, neon beer signs and cigarette machines. My beer was $6 and was served in a plastic cup. The roof top offered cans for $4.50 (GREAT PRICE EH?)

We headed upstairs after getting our hands stamped.

The dance floor was off to the side where bar tables would normally sit before 10. Crowded around the tiny dance floor was an eclectic younger sweaty crowd. Surrounding the dance floor were several middle aged guys looking for their next kill.

The roof top was a nice change. Open air, heat lamps, tables, city view, a less crowded bar and decent size restrooms.

Anyone living in Metro Detroit knows that Royal Oak is one of the more hip neighborhoods; Woody's just doesn't seem to fit this "trendy and urban-chic" city..unless you could walk to your college campus from downtown.

Apparently "Woody's prides itself on being the only dance club in Royal Oak" however it's worth traveling a few extra miles to a bigger and better place to dance.

I would visit again, only for the roof top experience.

There was an issue made out of my best friend having a turban by the bouncers. Eff this establishment up its crusty douchebag ass. I'll never be back.

I've been here only for the happy hour on the roof top with the cheap shitty buds. Rooftop bars and being outside are great after work. Wouldn't stay here too long because after a while I'm afraid I might get my ass kicked by meat heads and retards. Tooly o tools seems like just the same sort of crowd.

Like I said, Rooftop after work $2 beers. ok.

Woody's is your typical, crowded Royal Oak bar.  What Woody's can offer, though, is a summertime break from the overcrowding, the cigarette smoke, the smell of spilled alcohol, and the stale air found in most other Royal Oak nightspots.  That is, Woody's outdoor rooftop is only somewhat overcrowded, not quite as smoky, and not so smelly either... it's really almost a breathe of fresh Michigan air.  Avoid Woody's whenever you'll be stuck indoors, but its rooftop is a must on any warm, summer (spring or fall) night.
