This is a two part "restaurant," I say that because this is like two big food trucks in their own lots. There is the Eatery- seafood based and the other is BBQ. There are lots of games to play while you wait for your food. The fries are excellent and they have a bunch of teas and lemonades which are yummy. Seafood is great! My family ate at the BBQ part and said it was also amazing. Worth a trip!!!
(very limited outdoor seating) (no bathrooms!)
Even one star is too much for Woody's. My family and I were looking to end our awesome weekend on Chincoteague with a bang. We had eaten at so many great places during our 3 day stay, places with great fresh seafood, yummy southern breakfast, even the McDonald's on Chincoteague was great! All the places we found to eat on the island were recommended by Yelp and so, on our last day there, right before we hit the road, we stopped by the Yelp 4-star rated "Woody's" (I am completely convinced that employees of Woody's are rating it so well after our experience). My family and I ordered about $175 worth of food between the 6 of us for LUNCH. $175 went down the tube that day. My boyfriend and I ordered the shrimp tacos, shrimp po' boy and the corn nuggets, clam chowder and mac n cheese to split. The shrimp was not fresh at all, fishy and iodine flavored then fried in old oil. The clam chowder, I mean, creamy chicken noodle soup sans noodles (and clams for that matter) was filled with pieces of bacon fat, celery, potatoes and carrots. I must have ordered the potato, celery and carrot chowder by mistake (not an actual menu item). And the mac n cheese, oh the mac n cheese! I am mac n cheese obsessed! However with Woody's mac n cheese, I am not. The noodles were over cooked penne, and when I say over cooked I do not mean a tad bit past al dente, I mean so mushy I could not even pick it up with a fork without it dissolving to pieces. I haven't even gotten to the cheese on the mac n cheese which was some gritty, pale yellow sauce that I have no idea where it came from. Now this was just our meal, I could go down the list of what everyone ordered and complain but I will only mention one other, "The Duke" sandwich my cousin ordered. Cold chicken fried in old oil, topped with cold "grilled" pineapple (I'm pretty sure it was canned), topped with cold, burnt, bacon, topped with some mystery "Duke" sauce, on a bun. Oh, don't forget the huge jagged bone hidden inside the chicken breast...that part is really important. We were so livid with our experience at Woody's that we didn't even bother asking for new food or a refund. Lesson learned, a very overpriced and overcooked lesson. Spare yourselves!
Review Source:As a foodie with limited options on the island, I was wicked excited to try Woody's. Unfortunately, a host of problems soured my experience.
The wait was long, but I was ok with that. They were clearly busy, and moving as fast as they could. One of the workers gave us our lemonades, but apparently the lemonade machine had run out, and it tasted terrible. When I told him, he told us that couldn't be possible, but then checked the machine and saw it had indeed run out of flavoring. He replaced our drinks, and we stepped back to get our food.
After a long wait, we took our food back home to enjoy it in our rental house. I sat down with my family to eat, opened my shrimp Po' Boy, and audibly moaned in disappointment when I saw that they had given us a second crabcake sandwich instead. After a long, exhausting day, the last thing I wanted was to drive the half hour back to the shop to fix my order. Pure rage fueled me out the door and back into the car.
I must say that the owner did a great job trying to appease me. He gave us free desserts, which is why I gave this place a second star.
Unfortunately, I still wasn't impressed. While I was waiting for the order to be corrected, I saw one of the cooks making a crabcake...in the microwave. Really guys? C'mon!
This was far and away the best surprise on Chincoteague, besides finding out that Misty was in the Chincoteague Museum, stuffed. Â The 1/2 pound crab cake was amazing, the corn bites were delicious and the establishment itself was really unique. Â We wish it weren't raining, otherwise we would have stayed a while to play some tetherball.
Only downside was the staff. Â As we walked up to the trailer, the waitress walked by us without even making eye contact (there were no other customers there yet for lunch, we were the only people around). Â When we asked what was really good that she would recommend, she read the first two things off the menu. Â And then my wife got a "jeez stop bugging me" look from her when she asked for some plasticware. Â Besides the one staff member we dealt with, this place was amazing and we would definitely go back!
Yum! Fun outdoor, non-pretentious, local joint. Their shrimp taco was really yummy with the perfect amount of vinegar in their slaw. Also had one of their chicken sandwiches. They used real chunks of chicken that was moist and juicy! You eat outside, either standing up, or in their outdoor gaming area.
Also try their lemonade. Perfect sweet and tartness. Next door is Woody's BBQ, also delish!
Thank goodness we ate here for dinner at about 8 pm to make up for our nasty lunch earlier today at another establishment !
This place was great.  We watched sun set, I went  across street for a  beer (Woody's  has no alcohol), and we listened to Jimmy buffet type songs as we stood at our table under umbrella. Â
We ordered the chicken thigh, the crab cake sandwich and a side of corn. Â It was a great experience all around!
Earlier, we took the bus tour from 4 to 6 and saw a lot of the wild ponies.
This place totally rocks! Â Ingenious branding that begins with the playful hippie vibe; outstanding customer service; uniquely decorated with outdoor games, a ship, surf boards, clothes lines with Hawaiian shirts, a VW van, phone booth, stand-up eating vignettes and so much more. Visually stimulating in a way that relaxes and excites at the same time.
Although Woody's is classified as "take out", stacked plastic adirondak chairs can be pulled up alongside a giant sized tic-tac-toe board a surfboards or painted tree stumps and viola a table is born.
Both the BBQ and Eatery share a parking lot and a few things on the menu. Â Both have fare meant for post beach dinners and lunches that will prepare you for any if the islands outdoor activities. Â My faces are the Chicken Mere sandwich with BBQ sauce instead of honey mustard and an order of the corn fritters (not really their name).
The owners have a strong work ethic that shows in everything they do.
Go for the food, games, photo opps, being nebby, ... Go for any reason you'd d like . Just make sure you go. You may just fall in LOVE with Woody's, and become a raving fan as I have.
Driving up from Myrtle Beach back to Philadelphia and we found ourselves only a half hour away from Chincoteague. We were dying to see us some live, willlllld horses. After running around with the babe at a local playground we were famished  found this magical outdoor mecca of barbecue.
Absolutely amazing.
I had the Pittsburgh style BBQ pork (fries put on the sammy) and TBone had something else equally good.
And there are a ton of things to do- corn hole tossing, hammocks, tables made out of stumps- great road food joint. Â
OHMAGOODNESS- almost forgot how AWESOME the desserts are. They're in medium sized ramekins but they're so rich and awesome that it's the perfect amount.
It's a little pricey here but an awesome experience all around.
Doesn't accept credit cards but ATM on site.
Cute place, Outdoor trailer, with plenty of places to stand and eat. There was an adorable golden retriever wandering around when we got there, which put me in a good mood. Kinda-kitchy decorations, but it fit with the theme and they weren't off-putting.
This is right next to Woody's Beach Barbeque. They have slightly different menus. The Eatery had chicken and seafood options.
The crab roll was delicious, lots of big chunks of crab, some tomato and fresh basil. The order of fries is HUGE, we fed 3 people off of one order, they're good though. Big crinkle-cut fries with crunchy outsides and mushy insides, just like I like. The corn nuggets wit yum-yum sauce were outstanding. The peach lemonade was okay, nothing to write home about though.
ETA: Sweet potato fries were delicious, so was the Emerson Taylor (1/2 sweet tea, 1/2 lemonade)
