I was recommended to the Falcon by a patron dining at another restaurant. I noticed he was having the fish and chips there and I inquired as to how he liked them. He said they were good but the best fish and chips could be found at Ye Olde Falcon Pub. OK, I thought. Good tip.
Just returned from the Falcon and I have to say I was a little disappointed. I walk in at around 6 pm on a Saturday, and the place is empty. Uh oh, I thought, not a good sign especially since their website claims Happy Hour until 7 pm. I sit by myself at the bar and a cute, friendly bar maid comes over to take my drink order. Service was average, but I did have to get her attention while she was yakking with another employee.
I'm here, so I have to order the fish and chips, which I did. It came out fairly quickly....nobody else in the place.....and plopped in front of me was 3 smallish cod portions on top of a small bed of thick cut fries. Along side was a thimble full of their "home made" cole slaw and some tartar sauce. Now I'm thinking for $13 this must be only half of it and the rest is coming later. Nope, that was it.
I'm still trying to figure out what Happy Hour was. 2 draft pints were $6, the same price posted on the menu.
The food was OK, but I sure wouldn't send anyone else there looking for the best fish and chips. Service was OK, but the bar maid was cute.
All in all not what I was expecting. It wasn't a horrible experience, but not worth going back.
