Went for lunch on a Thursday around 2:30 pm after a hike to Rainbow Falls. The place was very slow at this time, yet it took over 45 minutes for us to get our food. We paid $14 for my very average burger which was not served as requested (no dressing). The salad was not as described on the menu and none of the food was very good. Add to that the slow service, high prices and limited menu choices, I do not recommend for any meal. It might be ok to stop in for a beer.

How about Zero stars because that is what I'd give the ol' Yodler.  They cannot for the life of them figure out how to cook a few hamburgers and hot dogs on the deck.

We ordered and waited and waited and waited for 2 hot dogs and 2 hamburgers.  Forty minutes later we found out that we were still 3rd in line to have our ordered cooked.

The kids couldn't stand it any longer so we had to cancel our order for our $14 hamburgers (each) and leave.

How about throwing more burgers and hot dogs on the grill Yodler and not cook each order one at a time.  You'd burn through a few more burgers but at $14 each you can afford it.

Save your time and money and avoid the Yodler.

We ate a lunch here but as an appetizer we ordered their GIANT pretzel - big mistake!  The pretzel is delicious but it is *huge* and it will fill you up before you get your entree. It comes with two different mustards and a cheese dip - yum yum.

I ordered the sausage and potato flatbread - it was very good but since I'd eaten the giant pretzel I could not finish my flatbread and ended up taking it home.  My husband ordered one of their hamburgers and it was quite large so again, he could not finish it.

So here is my recommendation: if you order the pretzel, don't bother ordering an entree - the pretzel will fill you up.

    3 pound pretzel? YES PLEASE!

The drinks are just okay but the prices are great and the big pretzel is the best!

The place seemed a little empty after the slopes had closed. I guess everyone else goes out in the Village. Well fine with me. It's cool anyway

I give 5 stars for the Hot Coco treatment and super delish cookie in a pan with ice cream.  Our server plopped marshmallows in our hot coco which the kids loved... Our server was great and we had a nice experience sitting next to the fire with our hot coco and big cookie.

We didn't try any of the food, but we would go back for another coco and cookie treat after being on the mountain all day.  THANK YOU!

Ugh, they are trying to go upscale again.  The food is more expensive than in the old days and what passes for a brautwurst sandwich is not as good as the old one.  They only have a couple of TV's now.  Still the slippery stairs to the bathroom.  Still it is sit down service with a waiter, but the lowered food quality and higher prices may push me out of here.

I really liked this restaurant. It's convenient because you can ski to it.

The food is really good. I highly recommend the chicken schnitzel. I ordered it two days in a row for lunch. It's on the spicy side so beware.

My friend ordered the giant pretzel which lives up to its name. It's huge! It comes with three dipping sauces: cheese, sweet mustard, and Dijon mustard. The pretzel and all of the dipping sauces were delicious. You can eat this as your entire meal or you'll definitely have to share.

The chilled Schnapps were good. I had apricot, black plum and yellow plum. I liked the yellow plum the best.

The only thing that I didn't like was that the restrooms were downstairs. It was a pain walking up and down with my ski boots...but that is a minor thing. Based on food and service, I highly recommend this place.

I was extremely disappointed in the Yodler Restaurant!  We made a reservation for 7PM in the fondue lounge and upon arrival, found out that the fondue lounge closed at 7PM.  The staff was very nice and worked to get us in anyway, but the food left much to be desired and was WAY overpriced.  The location at main lodge is great, but set your expectations very low if you are hungry.  I would not recommend the fondue lounge, and would not try it again, but I will give the main restaurant a try next time just because of the staff that was so nice to us during our visit.   Four people, $185 and we ordered pizza on the way back to the village (which was a lot better than the fondue lounge food)!  Cheers!

Summary:  We were pleasantly surprised by this place near the main lodge at Mammoth.  We had read some of the negative reviews on here regarding slow service, bad location, etc. and didn't experience any of that.  Food was excellent, the location was easy to get to, and the service was fast.  One of the better places to eat on the mountain.

The Food:  Overall, the food was great.  We had the Kale Caesar Salad and the Rope (Sausage) sandwich.  We also had a German beer (some type of Hefeweizen.  The Kale Caesar Salad was an interesting twist on the normal Romaine Caesar Salad, but using Kale instead.  It worked well ,and included shaved Parmesan and the best croutons ever.  However, it was a little overdressed and  was a little on the more tangy side.  The sausage was awesome and is highly recommended.  It was served with three different types of mustard, including a slightly sweet cranberry mustard.  Basically, it was all good.

The Service:  Our server was fast, attentive, and friendly.  The food come out very quickly.  Nothing else to say.

Price:  About what you'd expect. ~$30 for the salad, sandwich, and tall beer.

Location:  Great!  Close to the Main Lodge and Mammoth Mountain Inn.  No need to dodge cars if you don't walk through the parking lot.  (Just walk near the Gondola)

"If you ever teach a yodeling class, probably the hardest thing is to keep the students from just trying to yodel right off. You see, we build to that." -- Jack Handy, "Saturday Night Live - Deep Thoughts"

Firs of all, this review is dedicated to Vanessa H. who said she had ALMOST 500 reviews before she received her ROTD.  Well I am now on #502 without an ROTD so I just broke her record!!! Boo Ya!  Give it up for a non-winner!  I'd like to thank all the people who are better writers than me along with the girls whose bikini shots and cute faces easily ensure that they get more FUC's than I do.   i could not have achieved this "milestone" without you!  Let's get to 600 reviews now!!!

The Yodler is a perfectly acceptable tourist spot on Mammoth Mountain.  My son and I ate here after visiting The Devil's Postpile.  He was a bit nauseous after the bus ride back up the Mountain so pasta and a lemonade were his ticket.  I ordered veggie appetizer plate and a sausage/potato flatbread.  My son enjoyed his pasta but just felt it was alright.  My veggie platter was huge with tons of fresh, crisp veggies and a couple of dippers.  My flatbread was also huge but too greasy.  i only ate the end parts and didn't touch the soggy greasy middle.

2,5 stars but I'm rounding up because even though i only drank a diet soda, i noticed their wine and beer list was excellent with especially the white wines from Alsace being a thoughtful touch in a tourist area.

This is my final review from our HWY 395 vacation.  Thanks for reading :)

Went to Yodler for there advertised happy hour special, beer and sandwich. The ad says 3-5. I got there at 4:30 and was informed that the kitchen was closed.  What a disappointment. Hard to assign a star value on no service.

New menu ROCKS!! We had the grilled cheese and chicken schnitzle sandwiches. The grilled cheese was not your Mama's grilled cheese. Three cheese and ham served with fried onions  the chicken schnitzle had this jalapeño aioli and homemade pickles. And oh, did I mention the fries made in duck fat, garlic and sage?? By far the two BEST items on the menu and we enjoyed every morsel.

A bit too pretentious for Mammoth.

    - Location - terrible! It's hella far from Main lodge, you have to dodge cars, SUV's and buses to get across the street, then walk uphill to get to it. Now, do that in heavy gear, snowboard boots, while carrrying a board = NOT fun!
    - Drinks - very pricey!
    - Food - expensive! Ordered a chicken pita salad $11 - say what? 5 star restaurants in LA doesn't even charge those kind of prices. Now, my salad did taste pretty good.
    - Service - reasonably fast
    - Freebies: there's a table at the entrance of the bar with a bunch of condiments for your bloody mary: olives, peppers, and BACON!!! I cleaned out that whole bowl of bacon on my way out! (Warning: I'm a professional bacon swiper, please do not attempt this stunt!)

After a few years of some sort of identity crisis, the Yodler returned to its roots: Bavarian Cuisine. With a twist, of course.

What I've eaten so far: Belgian fries (blue cheese, bacon, leek sauce); Hunters platter; fennel sausage, potato and Manchego flatbread (fresh out of the wood burning oven); potato leek soup (Mora's grandmother's recipe); black kale "Caesar" salad; the chicken schnitzel sandwich; the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich; the Fulton farms chicken breast; vegetarians Shepherd's pie; black forest lasagna; and the sausage trio sampler.

The Belgian fries came out to our table after our soups and it was a challenge to keep from devouring the entire plate. Since I've moved to Mammoth Lakes, I've been on a mission to find the restaurant that serves the best fries.

I think I just found it.

The fries with bacon would have been wonderfully paired with one of the 25 beers the Yodler offers, but unfortunately I couldn't drink on this visit.

I have a confession: I'm not a fan of spicy food. My mouth is a wimp and mustard can be too much for me at times (I know--I'm pathetic). I hesitated to try the chicken schnitzel sandwich since the word jalapeño was listed in its description, but when a colleague kept commenting on how delicious it was, I had to try it (besides, I am slightly obsessed with schnitzels).

For someone who normally can't stand the burning sensation in and around the mouth, the jalapeño aioli didn't overpower the rest of the meal and I was left pleasantly surprised.

The homemade mustard sauce that accompanied the Hunters platter was also approved by my taste buds. The mustard had a bite to it, but it didn't leave my mouth numb (oh and the bread that comes with the platter is impeccable--a must try).

Out of the entrées samples, the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich impressed me the most. After I took the first bite, I started to laugh.

I never order a grilled cheese sandwich when I dine out since the meal, in my opinion, is so simple, why would I spend money on something I can make myself?

But this is no ordinary grilled cheese. Appropriately named, the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich comes with Gruyere, Gouda, and cheddar cheeses layered with smoked ham and warm tomato and onion marmalade. It's finished with an egg over easy and crispy Tabasco onions on top.

    Absolutely brilliant.

You can't have a Bavarian themed restaurant without sausage, and the sausage trio sampler included three different sausages (bockwurst, Whiskey Fennel, and bratwurst) on a pretzel roll surrounded by a German potato salad and spicy mustard.

You can't find the Whiskey Fennel sausage anywhere else in the world. It is specifically made for The Yodler. And it's delicious.

The meal also comes with homemade sauerkraut, which is worth trying, even if you don't typically like sauerkraut. Trust me.

I've had every dessert there ... and I'd totally go to this restaurant just for its dessert! Bavarian cream puff, a skillet black forest cookie, the root beer snow (made with Mammoth Brewing Company's root beer), baked Alaska, and the apple tart that comes with house-made salted caramel ice cream.

You really can't go wrong with any of the options, but I happened to enjoy the Bavarian cream puff the best (must be the eastern European in me).

When redesigning the menu, executive chef Marc Mora feels the vegetarian and gluten-free community often receive the raw end of the deal when it comes to dining and thus, in picking and choosing meals for the menu, went out of his way to make sure they also enjoy a wide array of options.

The menu is littered with GFs or Vs behind certain items to denote if the meal is gluten free or vegetarian, respectively.

As a carnivore, I usually order meals that include meat. After tasting the vegetarian shepherd's pie (turnips, brown mushrooms, pearl onions, and asparagus in a sundried tomato sauce and a parsnip and potato crust), I might have to make an exception. I don't remember the last time I ate parsnip and clearly forgot how yummy it tastes.

Since Mammoth Lakes is family oriented, Mora didn't forget to include a kids menu.
To top off an entire menu full of meals that'll get your taste buds to fist pump in your mouth--whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore, an adult or a child--everything is well priced.

Good food. Huge portions. Fair price. Great place for lunch during s ski day. Prices are better than "on the mountain." Nachos are massive and the garlic parmesan wings are killer. We go almost every weekend for ski lunch.

First off, the map incorrectly shows the location as in town. The restaurant is actually located about three miles away, across the road from the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area main lodge.

The good: bartenders are quite nice and the service in the bar area is usually very prompt and courteous, there is an outdoor dining space with lovely views of the ski area and the climbing wall. During the summer it's the only place with table service at lunch near the main lodge.

The bad: the food is a mostly a wreck. Tired bar "classics" poorly presented and over priced. The Yodler Fire Chicken wings are so small and poorly butchered they look like they came from a pigeon abattoir run by a bunch of blind Freddy Krugers. The rock hard tomatoes in the Caprese salad are so poorly plated that you feel like you're eating in a prison camp. And run, don't walk away from the grayish off smelling sausage platter. About the only halfway decent item on the menu is the fish tacos and at $12.50 for two they'd better be.
More bad: the service both in the dining room and out on the patio can only be called a hot mess. In the last three visits (see above for why I bother to go back) I have never had all the items delivered as ordered. The last time we waited for 30 minutes to order only to have two out of the four items botched. The excuse, "we're busy" The reward for the insulting service and food was an annoying happy face newt to the server's name on the tab.

Vintage Ski Chalet ala Mammoth.  Thank God they haven't changed the decore.   Attentive bartenders. Lunch offering is basic mammoth mountain faire.  TVs showing golf and 70's rock n roll streaming.
We were well taken care of.  Beautiful deck but too breezy today.  Fish tacos were perfect.  Big pieces of beer batter fried fish; real deal except for the green sauce...not sure what that was. Burger ok.
No high expectations here....good basics, cleanly prepared, beautiful location.  Well visited with people from all over the US and world this time of year.

Great location. We sat on the porch for the last lunch of the ski season (July 4) and enjoyed the sunshine and partying locals. The prime location across from the main lodge makes it a little pricey for what you get -- 6.50 for a pint of Fat Tire or most any decent beer -- but the $12 fish tacos were just what the doctor ordered. (Admittedly light on the fish and heavy on the cabbage, but I kinda like it that way.)

Hardly any veg options, though. If you have multiple vegetarians in your party, I'd take a ride downtown.

Our experience at this restaurant was far from acceptable. First, we waited for someone to show up at the door to seat us. When they finally came 10 minutes later, we were seated at a table that was way to small for our group of seven. We squeezed in, and figured out what we were going to eat, and waited another 20 minutes for the server to take our orders. By this time we were getting hungry, so we ordered our food and drinks. We waited and watched people get their food who came half an hour after us,while we had not had our drinks yet. We ended up waiting an hour and a half before getting our sodas . We were so frustrated, we asked to pay for our drinks, which they payed for eventually, and we left to go to Burgers, where they actually care about customer service.

Lousy serves beat the food.  We arrived before the lunch rush (3 inside tables occupied and maybe 5 on the patio). Ordered right away - Fetuccini Alfredo w/ chicken, Cesar salad w/ chicken, fish tacos, & steamed vegies. It took 30 minutes for the Cesar salad and 40 for the rest (pasta came without chicken). The excuse: "we're busy" - there was a crowd - 20 minutes after we ordered. Then, to pay the bill, our server kept ignoring us when we flagged him down and called to him - at one point he just looked down and walked past us. I took the bill to manager Patricia, who took it, w/ my credit card, came back and handed it to me without a word! No apologies, no thanks for being patient, nothing! And this, after I told her what had happened. This was our first & last visit to the Yodler - so not worth this kind of treatment.

Good spot, love the location and love the Swiss decor even more, sure wish they took their pizza making here more serious though, it would be cool if they would fly in a famous pizza chef from New York during the uber-whitey Winter Season, his name would be Joey...and he would roll out stromboli's like a champ, sorry I got way carried away.

There is something about Swiss-Living.....torches, Swiss crosses, mountaineer gear, it's very 80's in such a RAD WAY. I love the outside view, and with the inside of the place you kinda feel like your in the Eagles nest, but I digress. I must say, there is something about drinking in this spot, it's very relaxed, cool staff...but they must up the food, it needs work. Just bake a few solid pies, you know the deal, have a really good crust, the rest is a simple sauce, and toppings and cheese do the rest.

Over all 3 stars for a great location, decor, wine list, and your staff, they are what really makes this joint great. However OWNER please stop relying solely on the location, get the pizza in check and I'll be back to check on my favorite little Swiss mountain cellar in the USA.

Neh. They were busy for the Annual blackout, so I understand the service.

The prices aren't too bad, but service was slow.

The food wasn't anything to write home about, it's just a convenient lil place on the bottom of the slope, perfect for your break in between skiing/snowboarding...

We ate or drank here at least once a day during our 4 day stay this season!  We were snowed in and staying at the Inn, so there weren't a whole lot of options, but still.  The menu isn't too diverse and it's not a place to club at after a long day at the slopes; it's a nice place to relax and have a drink (or more).  We found what we were looking for each day/night and felt comfortable lounging for as long as we wanted to without being pressured to leave or without it being too crowded.

Eating out in Mammoth = one big giant FAIL to date, including at the Yodler Bar & Pub.

    Food, 1-star:

    - $13 for 4 sad little pieces of deep-friend, battered fish (with a tiny, wilted cup of shredded lettuce drenched in balsamic vinaigrette which they called a "side salad" in lieu of chips). I requested a lemon wedge which arrived after I finished the fish, plus I had to waive over the waitstaff who wandered around looking confused with a slice of lemon in his hand.

    - $10+3 = $13 for a tiny plate of tasteless fettucini alfredo pasta... the extra $3 was for sausage, not sliced but the crumbled cheap pizza sausage kind. WTF?? Pasta costs pennies, you'd think they'd be a little more generous with their portion size...

    - $6 for the delicious-tasting S'Mores bread pudding on their menu... Wait, what was that, waitress? You stopped offering that last week yet it's still on your menu? Nice. Okay, um... we'll have a chocolate brownie instead. (When the brownie arrived, it was hard and crunchy and 90% burnt. Awesome. We sent it back immediately, even with ice cream it was entirely inedible. Even better, when we told our waitress it was burnt, she seemed surprised and exclaimed "How weird! They usually undercook it!" SWEET, hello salmonella poisoning!)

    - Plus $7 for a glass of white wine, tax and tip = $42 for a meal that I could've made that would've been tastier, more filling and much more enjoyable for less than $10 at Vons.

    Service, negative star:

    - Nice to meet our stressed out, fake friendly waitress who didn't check on us once after throwing down our food and never refilled our water

    - The same stressed out, fake friendly waitress tried to hustle us out of our seats so she could sit a party of 5 at our table. She literally said, quote "I don't want to rush you, but can you guys hurry up and finish your dessert and wine by the bar? There's a party of 5 waiting for it, thanks." Wow. REALLY?? Thanks for shitting on an already terrible experience, now we feel rushed and anxious every time you pass by our table hoping that we'll gulp down the wine instead of sip it and enjoy a conversation after a long day on the slopes.

AVOID this dump with terrible overpriced food and awful service at all costs. Go to Vons or even the freaking Pita Pit instead.

Crowded apres ski place where people have already changed out of their boots and heavy gear.  I like the little enclave section with a seating area near the fireplace in the bar area.

The food is overpriced ($14 for a burger) and isn't even really that great.  Drinks are normal $5-$6 for a beer.

There is an upstairs (and that is where the bathrooms are - so far away).  The wait staff at the tables is OK.  The bartenders really need to be nicer and smile more.  There is a Mug Club for those frequent drinkers which is pretty cool.

Amazing sunshine and incredible powder: great skiing conditions.  Since we were staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn (again), decided to give this place a try  for dinner.  The place was bustling but were seated relatively quickly.  Tried tab beers - Mammoth Pale Ale & Mammoth Brown something.  Both were excellent!  Ordered the rigatoni : yum!  The BBQ chicken pizza was goooood - my 11 y.o. said it was better than Cheesecake Factory's.  Husband ordered the fish tacos, which were good too!  Overall, a good place to eat around here - since this is the only place around here.  (Other than the Grill, which is more formal and not as good.)  The service was slow but friendly.

This place was horrible! Went there for a sunday brunch, and was met with RUDE service and a cockroach in the fruit platter.

My girlfriend's disabled grandmother asked where the restroom was, and they told her it was across the street, while laughing at her.

    DO NOT go here.

    meh.

i've been eyeballing the yodler for about 3-4 years now. it's literally right next to the gondolas, and very hard to miss. too bad it's also very hard not to miss the quality of food here, which is average at best.

we came here at 3pm, and they had some strange pseudo 3-6 pm ONLY appetizers only menu?  though some of these appetizers were angue steak salad and chicken wrap. there were only a handful of items on the menu. we ordered their 'famous' fish tacos, (one with veggie chili and the other with coleslaw). We also ordered the soup of the day which was chicken vegetable.

The food took almost 25 minutes to come out. (what's with the slow service in mammoth?), though the wait staff was extremely nice, it's not exactly rush hour dinner or lunch. we were ravenously hungry, as we always are after bombing downhill. the soup came in a very shallow, long plate. er?

i dove in. GALSKDFJDSLFKJ!!!?????  SALT! SALLLLLTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!

would you like some veggies and chicken with your SALT??!!

i don't even know how my boyfriend finished it, and to top it all off, it was TEN bucks. blah.

the fish tacos were decent. decent meaning, the tortillas it came in were COLD, there was some thousand island slop on top of some sparse slabs of cabbage- no other veggies were in sight. the fish seemed fried to the max. it was ok, and it tasted good, but i was starving. and when i'm starving, and i'm STILL noticing things like this....well...you know.

all is all, it was OK. my friend's chicken caesar wrap was good, but it was 15 bucks....

i might come back next year to try out their full menu, but then again, i might just save that money...i have enough sodium in my diet.

Dropped in for lunch on a warm summer day while checking out the Adventure Center.

I wasn't expecting much from their grill, but I have to say that they served up a very hearty, not to mention tasty and juicy burger.  The warm potato salad was good too. The outdoor seating was nice for those looking to bask in the sun and watch people scale a man made rock climbing structure.  I especially liked the table cloth covered tables, very nice touch.

Like pretty much everything else in Mammoth, the decor  and design of this restaurant lends itself well to a wintry ski resort vibe, sunken fireplace seating and all.

My son makes us go here every time we are in Mammoth.  The hot wings are crazy hot, but oh so good.  I am a big fan of the fish tacos.

If you are staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn, it's a nice spot to walk over to if the roads are rough out there and you don't feel like eating "in" the hotel.

I have only been here once, but if you are like most, you come a long way to get to Mammoth.  When you go out to eat, you want food that rocks and drinks that are stiff, this place has neither....

This trip I was in a party of five, it took forever to even get water.  Over an hour or so to get our crappy food....

What bartender doesn't know that a Vodka Tonic always comes with lime?  What waiter is so lost he can't remember to bring you one, even when you ask him three times?

and when a Bacon Cheese burger is $14 and you ask for it "Rare" why would someone bring you a burnt piece of ground beef on a crispy bun?

The only saving grace - the manager did correct the tab, to take off the drink we didn't order and he also took off the "automatic" 18% gratuity charge (which we did not know about until we got the check, a party of five gets an auto gratuity?)

i am not the picky whiny type when it comes to restaurants.....but i couldn't help myself at this place.

do yourself a favor and skip this joint....but before you do, take a look at the wood carving out to the left of the front door....then ask yourself this question...what is that guy holding down there?

This is a great place for a quick bite to eat in between runs.

Loved the fish taco's.  The pulled pork sandwhich was really good as well.

I couldn't stop eating those taco's though,  when I like something I will order it until I get sick of it.

Not too pricey, nice little break point and a friendly staff.

The Yodler is okay for apres-ski drinks and appetizers, but really not the best. I suppose the most appealing thing about it is how close it is to the slopes. The food is typical bar stuff and not very well done at that. I'd recommend just heading down to the Village, unless you're stuck on the mountain because of snow and can't drive down there.

Yodler has, for years, been the bar of choice for Main Lodge apres-ski drinks. For years this bar, imported piece by piece from Austria, hosted tons of partiers each day, finding each other for a drink or snack before tackling the drive back down the road to town.

But times have changed. For one thing that drive, which used to take minutes, can now take an hour if you're stuck in traffic caused by the new village. Secondly, many people have shifted their drinking to the Tusk Bar in the lodge itself, where live music takes place.

Part of the reason for the shift is that management at Yodler took out many of the tables and added a fooseball table, and - word is - has the attitude that they don't care if the regulars come back there this season. It's a weird shift in attitude, and one that has many swearing off this local watering hole.

The bar itself is nice; there's a sunken area next to a fireplace, several tables against the wall and an old wooden bar. When crowded it's a scene - mostly with the above-30 crowd as many of the youngsters have shifted down to the village and places like Lakanuki, Hennessey's Tavern etc.

You'll find this pub (hof?) next to the Inn and the new gondola station.
