This diner is open 24 hours and its one of those nice fancy looking diners, not old school or like outdated. The decor is really nice and theres an outdoor part too you can eat at. Theres also a lounge/bar area where I know they have happy hour and even live DJ and music on certain days. The food is pretty good too, has all diner style food and more other types of dishes. I enjoy there burgers and also there salads are good and really big plates. The service is pretty good too and theres huge parking lot too. I know this place gets crowded on the weekends for breakfast. There kind of pricey but it seems all diner now and days especially on the island have put up there prices. Theres another diner called Z2 which is really nice on the south shore and I know they throw private events too in the bar lounge area which is really big and huge and such nice decor, I am really obsessed on how nice they made these diners you would never think there one. The food is really good in both places. I enjoy coming here to have a bite to eat and keeping it local.
Review Source:Typical diner food, not bad but not the greatest. Â Wait staff is hit or miss too, some of them forget about you and don't follow up, sometimes I have to look for someone to get my check. Â
On the positive side, the management, front counter and bar counter staff are all very polite and a pleasure to deal with, prices are reasonable. Â The day time bar staff has always provided good service...so if you walk in for breakfast or lunch, head over to the bar for best service.
Z-one is very hit or miss, both in the quality of food and service. Â Over the summer, my husband and I occasionally come here for Happy Hour to enjoy the beer & appetizer specials. Â Sometimes there are fruit flies around the bar area, which is gross. Â The bartender is super nice though. Â I've been here many times for breakfast & lunch. Â Like, I said it's very hit or miss. Â The burgers are served on buns made on site. Â The buns are very good. Â The fries can sometimes be very good, but other times are a little stale. Â My husband often orders a Mediterranean salad and he really enjoys it. Â I've had some of the breakfast choices, usually an omelet and I've always liked it. Â There are definitely better diners on the island, this place is just okay for me.
Review Source:When Z-one first opened I was confused on what it was trying to be. Â Oddly it works as both a diner and a lounge. Â The side with the bar has a more sophisticated look to it and there is even an outdoor area. Â The other side looks like a standard diner. Â I never have a bad meal here, my favorites being: the bacon cheeseburger, grilled cheese, Greek panini and their salads. Â The service is always good and it's very spacious so even when it's packed the wait is not that long. Â We have a bunch of diners on the island and Z-one holds its own.
Review Source:So disappointed in my recent experience here...We went there this past Monday and sat in the bar area so we could have a clearer shot of the basketball games....When we sat down we were one of two tables sitting and there were 4 servers, a bartender, and busboy....
After about 5 minutes about hearing the server's conversation amongst each other about Wrestlemania coming up the busy boy brought over some cold bread. Â Once the server was finished talking and doing god knows what he decided to come over and ask if we wanted anything to drink. Â He took our drink order and despite us sitting there and knowing what we wanted he walked away before we could put our dinner order in.
3-4 minutes later he stopped by with our drinks and at that time he took our food order. Â We ordered the Philly Steak Roll Appetizers and Two Cajun Bleu Burgers. Â The app came out quickly and was very good.... Â Shortly afterwards our burgers arrived and I peeled off the handful of strips of bacon that were cooked this morning and hard as a rock....We ate the burgers and despite the temperature being off (I suspect because it was probably fired at the same time as the apps and just sat in the window) it was pretty good for me. Â When the food arrived our server FINALLY asked me if I would like another beer.
We finished our meal, I waived down the server for one last drink and the check. Â At no point there was no mention of asking how our meal was or if we wanted dessert. Â The most enjoyable part was going home and finding out the meal did not sit well with my gf...
I was not blown away by any means and it is clearly just overpriced diner food with poor service...Needless to say we won't be back unfortunately...
When z one first opened my family had a bad experience. My dad had a piece of metal in his food. He told the waiter, and the manager came over, but didn't do anything about it. They recently opened z two so my parents tried it and had no complaints. So I figured id give z one another shot. A friend and I ended up here for brunch one day. And I have to say I enjoyed it. I've gone two or three times for breakfast but my real reason for going here and not back to another diner is the corn nuggets. Roll n roaster and adobe blues have instilled in me a love for corn nuggets. And these are spot on. I'm not a fan of the dipping sauce it comes with. I just eat them plain. Maybe when I have something other than breakfast and corn nuggets I'll change the star rating. As long as I don't find any metal in my food.
Review Source:I think even giving this place 3 stars is being generous. I live across the street and I wish I didn't. In the summer I can smell there garbage while I walk my dog and it's pretty unpleasant. I have eaten here before and there is nothing special about there food. Only one occasion I can say there dinner was actually tasty. But it's always hit or miss and I would rather go to a place that is consistent when it comes to food. The only thing I enjoy is the bar in the summertime.
Review Source:This place is disgusting! Hate how the people there act. The food was not good at all asked for my burger to cooked medium rare but they over cooked my shit. After finish eating that dry ass burger still chatting with my friends the waitress was talking shit like hey they aren't going to tip that's why they still siting there and just talking she was just standing there talking about us for like a good half an hour so I thought to myself she don't deserve no tip so I took my bills and left her a few cents. What do you aspect to get if you are going to be so unpolitical to the one your serving sorry Hun bye bye first time and last time I will ever step into that dump!
Review Source:Although this place says restaurant people its just a diner with a bar attached.. Came here for breakfast. Had french toast it was good accents of cinnamon which i like and i usually do in my own french toast. The waitress was really nice, sweet and verry accommodating to my niece. Â This place is okay. Not my top 5 :)
Review Source:ok, so my dirty martini * naa * food naa * service * naa. Â All around a no no. Â We were left waiting for our server to get a drink, then we had to ask for bread even though we were there for dinner. Â The burgher was nothing special, the shrimp dinner had to be sent back , the panini sandwich was barely edible. WIll not be going back anytime soon.
Review Source:Good times at this spot. Visiting here from Chicago. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich on Foccia bread. So good!! Usually a lot people can't get cajun things right but they hit right. Not too, too spicy.  Delicious. If Im ever in Staten Island again I'll be back. I'm curious about they're  breakfast. They have such a BIG menu. It was a cool spot and it looks like they have a lil sports bar in the back as well. So looks at fun as well.
Review Source:This place is horrible. I was there for lunch with some friends and they had a reasonable priced lunch special. The soup I ordered, Chicken Orzo, was loaded with salt. Another person I was with got the lobster bisque and it was also ridiculously salty. The burger was pretty gross, also salty, and the fries did not taste fresh. The pie I had was filled with that gluey pie filling stuff and I could not find one pice of real fruit in it! I hate spending money on bad food. The service was good, and the prices were good. It was just disgusting.
Review Source:I really wanted to love this place and it's so close to my house and I've been here at least 20 times in 2 years, but the food is average at best, I don't like their burgers or sandwiches or any of their fish dishes and the service at the bar area is HORRIBLE... Yep, what a shame, because it's really a nice spot and location but the bartenders are not friendly at all... Take care Z-One you won't see us anymore!!!
Review Source:As a loyal customer at Z-One for over two years now, I have never had any major problems. I always go with my two friends and we end up ordering appetizers for the table and splitting it amongst us. The food comes out very quickly and always tastes great. The chicken quesadillas are stuffed with chicken, which may not be everyone's style, but it's nice to see a quesadilla with more than just tortillas.
I will say that some of the entrees (like the turkey burger) are things left to be desired. However, their dinner specials are a great deal, especially if you're tight on a budget. And if you split appetizers, it comes out to cheaper than the sampler, and you get a lot more for your buck.
Sometimes, the waiters can be not very attentive, but that's usually the new people. It doesn't deter me from giving this 5 stars. Oh, and their cakes are DELICIOUS.
If you're looking for an upscale restaurant, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a place to go after a day of shopping at the mall or late night food, this is definitely the spot.
It's a pretty interesting spot, that offers both the chance to just dine with kids or friends in a simple dinner setting and then it has a bar/lounge room that offers you the chance to dine and get down with friends if that is what your day or night call for. You kind of can go from 1976 to 2010 in a heart beat, which I think is pretty cool!
The drinks are a little pricey for Staten Island, but the ampstophere makes it worth it, the food tries to be fancy but really it is just simple dinner food at the end of the day that is a little pricey. Personally I don't mind spending a little extra on the drinks or food because they just are not to many SI spots like this so you gotta take what you can get when you can get it...
Z-One is just another diner on the island with an upscale appearance. From the outside you get the impression of an exquisite place to eat but once you enter it's really nothing more then a diner. The lounge side has many TV's for all sports venues but for the most part gets packed out by every Tony techno and Johnny juice head. At times it's this place can be good but for the most part let's get real it's another teenage hangout and wanna be Guido/Guidette tuff guy atmosphere. The food is diner food quality only recommendation from here is the turkey burger or bison burger. There hasn't been to much to rave about. There's a parking lot but try to park on the street side to avoid dings and dents from the drunk rookies who can't handle one drink slamming car doors.
Review Source:A fancy place from the outside and nice decor on the inside, however its nothing more then a glorified diner. The food taste like diner food, steak and eggs were just that, it wasn't a filet mignon but it wasn't a fatty piece of meat either. This place however pics up at night. The bar/lounge is a very nice relaxing place as long as there are the typical SI idiots. They seem to try and keep them out. Music is good and the drinks are fairly priced.
Not a first date place especially if your trying to impress.
Z One is a upscale diner, leaning towards the restaurant side. Â The menu is REALLY huge. Â But most of time I end up getting a salad or a burger anyway. Â
One thing I will add, is if you order chicken there, you MUST check to see if the chicken is fully cooked. Â So many times the I order grilled chicken on my salad, and I bite into it, and taste half cooked chicken. Â Same thing with chicken quesadilla. Â
They also have a really awesome bar area, just built.
Their delivery service was not exactly up to par, but the food was still good, just not want I ordered. Â You would think a place that just started a delivery option, would do a little better of job taking down and preparing an order.
Another warning..... do not go there for breakfast. Â Too much money for crap tasting eggs.
Typical diner food with an upscale touch. They have a parking lot so parking shouldn't be a problem. They have a large dining area with an option of booths or tables. In the adjoining room they have a full bar (reasonably priced drinks and with regards to the mixed drinks they don't skimp on the liquor) with tables as well. This area has flat screen TVS for the sports lovers. Â Place is very clean, the staff is friendly, the service is good and the price of the food is reasonable as well. Look at the dinner specials first ... sometimes they can be really good. They also deliver locally.
I've been here about a dozen times. Portions are pretty big, you will have leftovers.
I've had the pancakes and egg omelets for breakfast which I recommend.
Their burgers, wraps and salads are yummy.
I've also had the Penne a La Rosa which is delicious as well as their take on the chicken parmesan. It wasn't the best I've had (obviously) but it cured my craving for it that evening.
As far as appetizers go, you MUST get the Fried Macaroni & Cheese Bites (you dip them in peppercorn ranch) and it's awesome :) If you are a cheese lover, like myself, you will love this. Â
If you're looking for a nice meal in a nice environment without breaking your wallet you will like this place.
For the most part Z-One is ONE big identity crisis.
They have a huge menu that spans from breakfast to pasta dishes. It's weird because it's a diner, but it tries not to be. It has this more upscale vibe, with nicer furniture, music and atmosphere that leads you to believe that you are going to be getting more for what you pay for.
Sorry Z-One but you are a glorified diner, and there are better ones on Staten Island - turkey club was sub-par, dry. Fries were decent but nothing that would make me come back. Nachos were soggy and the guacamole was brown. The only menu item I could say is worth it is the mozzarella sticks.
Oh and unlike other diners after 11PM they switch to an abbreviated menu that serves a 1/4 of what they serve during the day. I've heard from people that they'll cook you whatever you ask, but then why give your customers a smaller menu when you have 24 hour places not too far away that happily offer everything they cook during the day?
One too many strike-outs for me to want to return!
Very upscale looking, moderately priced, attentive staff...but I had the seafood franciase special ...within 30 mins I was experiencing stomach cramps...I sped back home to Mnahattan and didn't leave the toilet al night.
I was out of commission for 4 days..muscle aches ..fever..diarrhea ...dizziness ...it was the only meal I ate for the day. Usual stomach flu lasts for 24-48 hrs.. I had to have a friend give me  IV fluids- no joke.
I would recommend sticking to the more "diner" type food when ordering.ie burgers, pizza, fries..
The only thing that was good about this place was the bread... And that's the only reason I added a star.
I usually don't write bad reviews, but I honestly didn't experience anything good here:
*The service was terrible. The waiter was always around, but talking to other waiters in front of me while I waited... The table next to me even commented on how bad the service was!
*The lobster Bisque tasted like fishy tomato soup.
* I ordered the Grand Combination of a flatiron steak and shrimp oreganata kabab. The steak was tough an so was the shrimp. I was very upset. I paid 22.95 for shoe leather.
As I was paying the bill (I walked up to the counter) the Maitre'D (who was also working the cash register) asked me "How was the meal?"
I replied by telling him I usually don't claim to be a critique, but the food and service was way under par, I wasn't expecting that from walking into such a place...
He looked at me strange and never answered as I paid my bill. This was the first time I didn't even leave a tip. I don't know what expectations people have when they go out to eat, but mine are normal:
Good service, some ambiance and good food.
This place had none of the above.
I come here once in a whle, when I feel like having big burgers, or just want a chill place to go to. This diner/lounge is well staffed, and the service is great! There is a lot of the menu, and from everything that my friends and I have ordered, they were all good. The only thing that makes my trips to this place is that they never have mint leaves for mojito. Just the fact that everytime I go here, and order a mojito the server comes back with the same line: " Oh, I am so sorry. The bar ran out of mint leaves. Can I get you another drink?"
Umm.. okay, how about I bring my own mints from stop and shop and let you make my mojitos :) I'm pretty positive that they didn't run out of mint leaves, and are holding out. Why? I do not know. But one things for sure, this place does and good food, but because of the couple times that this happened to me, I will only go here if I don't want mojitos.
I've been to Z-one many times. Most times during the late night when a regular diner just won't cut it.
Decor wise the place is very hip. The inside dining area is very spacious and has a unique look about it. The service has always been great. Every waiter/waitress I have had has been pleasant and quick to accommodate any need I or my companions might have. Food wise there is a large selection to choose from. I've been here a couple of times and have enjoyed my good. Nothing groundbreaking but far from bad.
This place has been a staple for my late night dining needs. I would suggest this to anyone who wants a large selection of food, not easily found on the island.
Ive been to Z-one more then few times I love how the place looks its really pretty. Some food that I would recommend would be
Appetizers; wings, Kobe Sliders, fresh mozz with tomatoes. There chicken soup is ok
Dishes- the Mediterranean salad is good and the southwestern wrap also pancakes and BLT.
What I didn't like about the place is that they got a grade pending, Its really pretty in/out but how does the kitchen look? If you get a grade pending it means that the health inspection found something wrong somewhere. I haven't been there since I saw the grade pending on there window. They are also a little pricey.
There chicken quesadillas sucked and there Burgers just didn't do it for me. Over all Ive had better food I'm sure there better food on the Island but I wouldn't go outta my way for it.
I decided to give this place another chance. Â And it is a winner.
Their cheese bread is the best bread I have tasted!
Their Mediterranean wrap is sooo delicious!
I had a hickory bacon cheeseburger (I think this is what it is called) but that was also very yummy. Â
When you go, ask for Christine! She is an excellent waitress there!
Z-One is great!!! Â I very much enjoy my experience every time I go. I usually sit in the lounge area. Â The service is very quick and all the servers are great. My favorite dish is the eggplant parmigiana. Â The dish is very big and generous. Â If you order it as a dinner special, it includes soup, the main course, a dessert , and a glass of wine for $17. Â Not that bad if you ask me! Â They also have lunch specials that are not pricey at all.
If you are looking for a quick bite, I highly recommend one of the endless variations of cheeseburgers! They are AWESOME! Â Big, juicy, and served on a tall glazed bun. Â You have to taste it to believe it!
Appetizers are great too! Â They have a nice large appetizer sampler with various finger foods like, spring rolls, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, etc. Â My personal favorite is the deep fried macaroni and cheese served with ranch sauce on the side. Â It hits the spot every time.
The bar has every drink imaginable! Â Z-One is a great place to sit with friends at a table, booth, or at the bar and have a drink while watching TV on one of the several large screen TV's throughout the place.
The diner section is also very presentable. Â Not as lavish as the lounge area, but it gets the job done.
I've been going to Z-One for at least a year and I have always had my expectations met and exceeded. It is a 24-hour American diner with a lavish and "high-gloss" decor; plus in a separate bar section it is a popular sports bar that also has a good ladies night.
Some businesses that try to be so many things would fail epically at all of them. Instead Z-One is doing really well in multiple categories which is amazing from a business perspective and explains the almost always-full parking lot both day and night. (There was a restaurant in this location before Z-One and they did no-where near the volume of business that Z-One is clearly doing.) Plus Z-One is succeeding in a climate where others failed - I mean what happened to the 24-hour diner that used to be the corner of Hylan and Clove?
FOOD:
I never spend any time in the bar area so my review is about the dining experience. I really like the place, and that's why I keep going back and even know one of the hosts and a few waitresses by name. I'm a regular!
The food is always good. I have a few "go-to" favorities that I like now like the Chicken parm sandwich. I can't find the menu online to remember the exact name but they have a great coconut shrimp appetizer there too. The food covers a really wide range from American to Tex Mex to Paninis, Entrees, Salads, and desserts. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable.
SERVICE:
TIP: Service can be slightly unpredictable mostly when they get really busy. So while the wait staff is friendly, my strategy is to know what I want and make all my requests at the right time. For example, shortly after the food is delivered the waitress will come by to ask how it is, so know about the extra sauces and extra napkins and other quirky requests and make them then. Frankly, I go here to hang out with my friends so I don't mind if the waitress isn't stopping by every 3 minutes on a busy night. In fact if they kept popping by it would get annoying or feel like we were being rushed.
I found myself in SI and this place came recommended to me for a quick, simple lunch place. So me and my wife visited Z-one and was very excited because the place looks amazing. Â We sat down and within a few minutes someone took our order. Â My wife ordered an onion soup and a Santa Fe Chicken Wrap, I was immediately excited to try their Breakfast burger (Burger, Swiss Cheese, Pastrami and a Fried Egg).
The order took a bit longer than expected since my wife did order a soup which usually comes out prior to your main meal. Â Not at Z-one, everything came out at one time which overall isn't the worse case scenario.
Unfortunately, the only tasteful item we had was the French Onion soup my wife ordered. Â Her Santa Fe Chicken wrap was bland and tasteless, my burger was bad. Â I asked it to be cooked medium, it came back overcooked and dry. Â The egg was scrambled which was odd because if anything would have given this dry piece of hockey puck any flavor would have been a sunnyside egg with a soft yolk! Â Everything was just plain, boring and without any flavor. Â Really sad.
Note to anyone from Z-one, I'd rather eat in a place with little ambiance and amazing food then with a lot of ambiance and horrible food.
I will not be going back to the Z-one.
My family and I had lunch here last Saturday. I was impressed with Z's decor. I definitely thought it was nicely decorated and not the typical S.I. establishment. And, it was definitely a wise choice to have a partition between the dining area and the bar (a la Centrico in TriBeCa).
Our waiter was gregarious and on-point. Â She brought out our food and drinks in a timely fashion.
As written by previous reviewers, there are certainly a wide variety of food options on the menu. I ended up ordering the Z-one burger, which is topped with sauteed onions and mozzarrela cheese. It was delicious.
I'd certainly consider going back to Z-One in the near future.
Let me start by saying that Z is impressive at first glance. It's been open less than a year, and when it was in the process of being renovated we couldn't wait for them to open: It looked so hip and modern, unlike typical Staten Island dives.
Inside, it's clear Z management spared no expense putting the place together. Every detail inside, from the moulded ceilings to the stained glass to the fancy bar to the cutlery, was custom and top-notch. It's confusing though -- one expects an upscale dining experience, not average diner food.
The menu is enormous and spans breakfast, lunch and dinner, from sandwiches and wraps to entrees to a full pasta menu, prix fixe, daily specials, etc. Well-designed menu and easy to navigate, but daunting: The burger page alone has at least a dozen choices, and probably closer to 20. There must be at least 150 items on the menu.
The food is always predictable and reasonably priced -- about $10 - $12 for a sandwich with fries. Nothing you couldn't find at any other diner for half the price, though.
Service is the worst. The entire wait staff looks and acts unenthusiastic and depressed. Even the manager coming table to table acted like a zombie, and once simply nodded and moved on when we complained about our waitress, who we'd seen only once for a fleeting minute when she took our order. Our drinks sat empty at the edge of the table for the duration of our stay, and she never even came back to drop off the bill. We had to request it from the host and pay up front.
I've been to Z four times or so, each time hoping and wanting things to improve, but too little too late. I give up.
This is where the old Boulder Creek stood. I passed it by several time, but never went in because it appeared as if it might have been to expensive.
I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is really an upscale diner with all the offerings of good diner food and more. The menu is extensive. I had the Caprese panini which was very good. The prices are slightly more than the average diner prices, but the interior of the restaurant is also much nicer and I really believe that they put the effort into the food. It was better than the average diner food.
The waitress was very attentive. She approached us shortly after we were seated and when she came back to take the order and saw we weren't ready, she gave us ample time to decide before she came back. After the food was served, she came back twice to check up on us and ask how we were doing.
I definitely will go back there.
