I had seen something in a Yelp email newsletter about Zacky's and went to their site to check it out.  I saw they had a veggie burger so I sent a message through the site saying it would be really awesome if they offered vegetarian hot dogs.  They replied within a day saying they do have vegetarian hot dogs!!!  My husband and I went up last Saturday and the staff is as friendly as all the other reviews mention.
The place is a little small, and if we had arrived 20 minutes later we would be waiting for a table.  As we were getting up to leave our table was swooped down upon instantly.
The prices are a bit high, we each had one hot dog, shared fries and a drink and it was over $10.  The veggie hot dogs they use aren't like any I had before.  They are pink like beets and the texture/taste was so similar to what I remember of a meat dog that we panicked until it was confirmed.
My hubby got the Chicago dog and I had a Z dog (Pick 3) with lettuce, pickle and bleu cheese crumbles.  Mine wasn't thrilling, but that was my own fault.  My husband loved his! Next time we go I will get a sauce of some sort and ask for the bun to be steamed.  Maybe by then they'll offer a vegetarian Cincinnati chili too? (I can dream)

OK, I'm in love. First time at Zacky's and I will definitely be back.

I was out running errands last week and decided to stop in and see what this place was all about. The lady at the counter was a breath of fresh air. So polite and friendly! I ordered a chili cheese dog with onions, a side of fries and a sweet tea. The dog was awesome. Ooey gooey cheese, delicious chili and just the perfect amount of onions. You know its good when you go through two napkins and are using a fork to scrape the bottom of your plate! The fries were hot and crisp, just the way I like them. The sweet tea could have been sweeter IMO, but it was still good.

They were quite busy when I was in there, but every employee had a smile on their face and service was fast. Only drawback was that there is not a lot of seating inside.

They have quite a few other creations on their menu that I am dying to try, so I will be back! Keep up the good work, Zacky's!

Loved how friendly the staff was. They were very helpful with helping make a decision on which of the many hotdogs to choose from. I also appreciated that they came around to check on me and how my food was and if I needed any refills all with a smile.

I had a slaw dog with chili which was really good. The hotdogs were very good made with Vienna Beef. I also had some onion rings (recommended by the waitress) I also enjoyed those.

I will definitely be coming back with service and food like this.

2013 is a healthier year for most of us, but sometimes you just have to have a couple gourmet hot dogs.  The best place to do that in lunch break distance from where I work is Zacky's Hot Dogs.

The first time I stopped here I got a chili cheese dog and a cincy chili dog.  The chili cheese is some of the best I've had ever.  The cincy seemed to be lacking a spice I expect in cincy chili.  The next I got the chili and the "ZQ" dog.  The "ZQ" is wrapped in bacon and deep fried.  Sounds great right?  For me it was so-so.

The best thing about this place is the friendly atmosphere.  The workers smile and are genuinely thankful you're there.  I love going to places like that.

I will be going back for the BBQ.

Pros:  Chili dogs are top notch, Great Staff, good location.

Cons: Cramped during the lunch rush, so so Cincy chili.

This is a great family run restaurant in Carmel.  Low-key atmosphere and wonderful, friendly service.  Lots to choose from on the menu.  I especially like that it is just around the corner from work.
I actually haven't had any of the hot dogs yet, as I am obsessed with their BBQ.  The brisket is better than Shaprio's up the street, and the ribs are great.  Be sure to ask for the sauce on the side, you may not need it:-)
They serve crinkle cut french fries (which are scientifically proven to be the superior cut of fry) and sweet potato fries (yum).
This place is definitely worth a visit.  I look forward to trying more items on the menu.  If the dogs are good, this place will get 5 stars.

Love this little spot in Carmel. Heard about it from a friend. It was 5:00 when I walked in the lady at the counter was extremely nice and helped me with my decision on what to order. She recommended the ZQ dog. Which was fantastic. The hot dogs are made from Vienna Beef. This particular one is deep fried (no batter) with applewood smoked bacon, bbq sauce, and thinly shredded cheddar cheese. I chose to put it on a poppy seed bun for the extra .25. Of course I couldn't stop with just one dog, so I also got the Mexicali Dog. This was also fantastic! Vienna beef hot dog nestled into a poppy seed bun with thinly shredded cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream, jalapenos and topped with tri-color tortilla strips for that extra crunch. I will definitely return to this spot with some friends. So if you're in the mood for a good dog head to Zacky's!

I'm from Chicago (so I'm biased) and I miss Chicago style hot dogs. Zacky's is probably the best you'll find in Indy. They aren't perfect, but they hit the spot when you are craving a real Chicago dog. If I didn't know what a real Chicago dog tasted like I'd give this another star.

I wish they had tamales or better yet tamale boats.

The one great thing about Zacky's (and why I go back) are the people. The family that runs this place is the nicest and talking with them is always a delight.

Now if you are ever in northern Indiana stop at Pat's Chicago Dogs in Syracuse. They are the best.

You know when the BBQ is spot on, no sauce is needed! The entire staff makes you feel at home:)  This by far an upscale restaurant, but you will feel at home and for the type of food, it is good.  Thanks Zack for the pleasure to meet you and your lovely family.

Great hot dogs and awesome service. My favorite is the sweet potato fries. They have a huge menu with Vienna hot beef sandwiches and BBQ pork and brisket. They are priced right for lunch. I'll definitely be returning

This place has one of the best shop owners imaginable.  The food is great and you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu... EVEN the VEGGIE DOG!  I'm serious!  Zacky puts so much care and love into his establishment.  Even the bathroom is wonderful.

I ordered the Italian beef and was told I could get it dry, light dip, or heavy dip.  I thought they meant like in Chicago since they say they have a Chicago style Italian beef.  I went with the light dip since I was told with the heavy dip you would have to use a knife and fork.  All they did was dip the meat in the juice not the bun.  In Chicago that would not be considered a dip.  I hope that if you get the heavy dip, they dip the bread in the gravy too.  I also ordered the spicy giardiniera that was not spicy at all.  I would hate to try the medium spicy.  There was a large amount of meat and a good amount of the mild giardiniera.  The side of coleslaw was very good.  It was home made with either dried cherries or cranberries in it.  I wanted to try the Chicago dog but just had hot dogs the past two days.  Next time I will try the Chicago dog and hope for better.

First time at this place but, wanted to go from all the Yelp reviews. As soon as you walk in, the owner is greeting you and handing out menus. We opted for an American dog ,chile-cheese dog and a BLT dog. The sides we ordered were mac-n-cheese,sweet potato fries and onion rings. I am not a hot dog fan but, this thing was damn good. The sides were also made to perfection with the onion rings and sweet potato fries made perfectly daughter claimed the mac-n- cheese was the best she ever tasted .Will be back!!!!

Can't beat the chicago dogs, mac n cheese. Top notch rib tips in Carmel. Incredible service and friendly staff. Zacky's quickly became a regular stop after I moved to Carmel.

My chili cheese dog was good. Service is really friendly. I will go back for sure.

The reason I'll go back is because I desprately want non-chain small family run diners to succeed. I think for two reason. One because I think (actually know) I have a deep seated desire to have a little place of my own someday :). The other is that I consider myself a bit of a hot dog afficianado and there's always something to learn (and enjoy).

I rate Zacky's A-OK and they are, and as I said, I'll go back - especially to try the Chicago dog. But having said all this, here is my constructive feedback to Zacky's: The price point is a little high, the menu is a bit to broad (ribs?) and the fry portion is a bit too small (course, who really needs more fries?

    Keep at it Zacky's!

Wife brought me home some mac and cheese, a regular chili cheese dog, and something she called super spicy.  Well the mac cheese was outstanding.  The spicy dog was over the top great.  I love spicy food and it is hard to find made well and served in restaurants.  They did it very well.  Have to go back to get another one of those spicy dogs.  Regular chili cheese dog was good but I hear they have a bacon wrapped fired hot dog and I have to try that.  I have not been in this location since it opened but the food was outstanding. No fifth star because of pricing my wife says.  I will certainly go check it out myself.  True family place as my wife told me they were closed for spring break so they could all go on vacation together.  This is the kind of place I love.

I went to Zacky's for the first time last Saturday.  When I walked in, I was immediately struck by how cheap and dingy the place looked.  I ordered the Chili Cheese Dog, the "ZQ" Dog, onion rings, and water.  The cost was over $11.  When the food came, I was really very disappointed.  The hot dogs were the little skinny type.  The buns were not fresh, and the sauces were much too sweet.  On top of that, I probably only received 8-9 tiny greasy onion rings.  For $11, I really felt ripped off.

The only reason I gave the place 2 stars is because of the friendliness of the staff.

If you want a better dog at a better price, go to Steak-n-Shake.  You will be much happier.

The food is great, but the prices are kinda high.  The 5th star isn't there because of the price.  But, the dogs and sandwiches are great!  I recommend!  My husband and sons had hot dogs and I had a perfectly sloppy and delicious philly steak sandwich.  Every one of us left happy!

I love the chilli cheese dogs here.  It's kinda crazy because it's not real chilli, it's a sauce but you wouldn't even notice it.

I've been here multiple times and I've been happy each time.  Staff is very friendly, it seems to be family owned.

My only compliant is it seems to be a bit expensive from what I've experienced other places.

I'm a huge sucker for mom n' pop shops, and this one is the finest I've seen in Carmel lately.  Carmel has a mighty throng of chain restaurants, but there are few upstarts like this place.  I digress, though.

Zacky's isn't a huge place, being crammed into a strip mall on the east side of Rangeline between 116th Street and Carmel Drive (next to Donatos).  What it lacks in space and layout, it more than makes up for in its food and service.  A nice selection of dogs (Vienna beef, of course) welcomes you, along with Italian beef sandwiches and a few other things.  Since I'm a sucker for Italian beef, that's the only thing I've ordered here--although my wife and daughter have had the dogs--and the sandwich is huge!  Seriously, there's no need to order a side with this, as it's a meal unto itself.  Order it wet with hot or sweet peppers (giardiniere), grab a fork and knife, and dig in.  Their sides are good, though--sweet potato fries are nice and crisp (hard to do).

For those wanting a cheap hot dog, this isn't the place--Steak n' Shake and DQ aren't too far away for that sort of thing.  Nor do these folks have the traffic throughput, let alone the capacity, to drop the prices to that of a Portillo's (nor the established market of the Region for this sort of thing).

We ended up here after a failed attempt to go to Bub's in Carmel (the parking situation is horrid up there) and I'm so glad we did. This is a relatively new local hotdog place. It's decently sized yet small and the service is extremely friendly. If you're really hungry, go for two hot dogs, or at least get some kind of side. I tried the Cincinnati inspired hot dog and it was sweet midwestern love in my mouth. I think their Cincy dogs are even better than the local Skyline chili. I'm a huge fan of Zacky's and I hope they continue to thrive in this spot.

$3.99 for a hot dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Was at Portillos yesterday on the way back from Chicago.  For those who know, Portillos is an oustanding Chicago hot dog.  Price:  $2.35.  What the heck Zacky''s ???

Oh my! After living in the area for over 18 years I have had a GREAT Hot Dog!!! I'm from Detroit where hot dogs are a part of life, a great part of life. The coney island joint are all over the place and everyone has their go to place. So when my son and I eat lunch at Zacky's I was moved to somewhere else for a time. I must say that Zacky's is not a coney island stand, the hot dogs here are much more then that, there are a cross section of the mid west. The style of dogs are from places where hot dogs are part of the everyday foodies life. I'm a fan of the Chicago style and Zacky's has the best around! The only down side to Zacky's is no natural cased hot dog, my kind of dog! But saying that the place is great the family that own it are great and make you feel at home and relaxed while you enjoy the hot dog! Go and have the best hot dog in town!
Please remember to live and eat well, and please no chains!

I was browsing Yelp today (8/19/2011) and stumbled upon Zacky's. I'm an Indy native, but a big fan of Chicago Style hot dogs. Since I was close to Zacky's, I decided to give them a try for lunch (around 1:00 pm).

Zacky's is located in a small Carmel, IN strip mall. There is plenty of parking, and I found a spot right in front of the store - bonus! (There will be more parking soon in the strip mall once they finish rebuilding the 2 buildings next door that were destroyed in the Dunkin' Donuts fire).

The restaurant was exactly as I expected when going inside (in a good way). It was clean, bright, and there were about 12 people eating inside. There were 8 or 10 tables on the inside with enough seating for at least 20-25 people. (There were also 2 tables on the outside with seating for 4 total.) Tables were decently spaced so the place didn't feel cramped, which is also a plus.

Since Zacky's is a counter service type restaurant (order, pay & pickup at the counter - they call you by the name you give when ordering),  I located their menu on the wall. I was impressed with the almost 15 different options for hot dogs, not including brats and polish links. They also had a few sandwich options including Italian beef and tenderloins.

Since I was here for the Chicago Dog, it was time to order and see if Zacky's was worth the trip. I ordered a Chicago Dog with fries and a Coke. The person taking my order let me know that I could have spicy brown or regular yellow mustard. I stayed with traditional yellow. The price of the meal was $3.99 for the dog plus $2.99 to make it a combo for a total of $7.61 with tax. The price was a bit higher than ideal, but hopefully the meal would be worth it.

While I was waiting for my meal, I found a hand-held copy of the full menu. I noticed that the Italian beef had all the options I would expect - wet or dry, add sausage (for $1.00), provolone, and mild or spicy giardiniera. I will have to try this next time. I also noticed that they serve Vienna Beef dogs.

My meal was a bit slow to come out given the amount of people ahead of me. When they finally called my name, they apologized for the delay - which was probably a 5 minute total wait. I quickly forgave this when I looked at my food, since they obviously cook to order. The crinkle cut fries (another bonus) looked like they had just come out of the frier and the Chicago Dog looked perfectly prepared. I walked over to the condiment counter, got some ketchup for the fries and took a seat at an open table.

The food was exactly what I would expect it to be - which is a good thing. I tried the fries first since they were hot. They were typical packaged crinkle-cut fries, but were cooked properly and not greasy. Next I switched attention to the Chicago Dog. There was just a touch too much celery salt on the top, but it didn't affect the taste. The pickle wedge was sliced a bit thick for my preference (I prefer thin slices) but fit well in the bun. After picking up the dog to take a bite, I was pleasantly surprised to find they had properly steamed the bun. The taste was spot on and the proportions of the condiments were good. Overall this is the best Chicago Dog I've had at any restaurant in Indianapolis and as good as some I've had in the Chicagoland area.

After I finished my meal, I went to get a refill on my drink (free) and asked if they steamed their buns. The employee said that they will steam buns upon request, but always steam the buns for the Chicago Dogs. I should add that there were at least 5 people working behind the counter and everyone was friendly.

Next time I get a craving for a Chicago Dog, I will be making a trip back to Zacky's.

Wow wow wow. LOOOOOVE this place! It's family run and the people behind the counter seem to be having a great time. Zacky himself came around to see if everyone was happy with their food. I had the Indy blue dog which is a hot dog with caramelized onions, bacon and blue cheese crumbles. I was in hot dog heaven. I had sweet potato fries on the side which are a little different and tasted great. Check it out for sure!

I visited Zacky's for the first time today. I had a slaw dog and since my husband doesn't like hot dogs I got him the philly cheese steak. I enjoyed the dog and my husband said the cheese steak was "really good." The staff was also very friendly. My only complaint is that I ordered the cheese steak with no onions and we found a few on the sandwich. I will definitely go back to try the other dog selections.

Went to Zacky's for the first time yesterday.  AMAZING!  I actually had the Italian Beef (wet with hot peppers).  Not only was the food great, the service is great, too.  I spoke to Zacky and other members of his family before the lunch rush started and they are all very nice people (it was great to watch Zacky greet his customers, many by first name, as they came in the door).

Its great to see a locally-owned business open and I wish them the best of luck.  Looking forward to my next visit so I can try another item on the menu!

Excellent dogs! Always hard to find a place with a focus on hot dogs instead of hot dogs as an after thought. Love it. Went today for the first time, thought it was great, but then again...they focus on the hot dog AND have a fried hot dog!?

Though one dog is big enough for me, my husband and I decided to each get two. Seemed only appropriate in order to get a feel for the menu on our first visit. He got the "All American Dog" (mustard, relish, ketchup) and "Cincinnati Dog" (Cincinnati-style chili, onions, cheese). His only regret was not eating the Cincinnati first, since he was too full to finish it bc he choose to eat it 2nd but he loved it.

I got the "Chicago Dog" (obvious peppers, neon relish, dill pickle, tomato, onions, mustard, on steamed poppy seed bun) and the "Q Dog" (deep fried dog with bbq, cheddar, & bacon).

Yes I feel like I fatass, yes I took the dog on a massively long walk afterwards, and yes, it was so worth it.

And yes, it may not look like they are open bc dunkin donuts burnt down so the strip is boarded up, but they are!

It's hard to find a good hot dog place in Indianapolis, let alone Carmel. During the warmer months, we have "The Dogfather" and his cart throughout town.

I was hesitant about what I would find, but I was pleasantly surprised. It is owned by a family and they treat you like family. The owner goes out of his way to remember your name, ask how you're doing, and make you feel at home. I've been there twice already and I think most people come back because of the hospitality.

I've eaten there twice so far, first time I had a Chicago dog. The second time, I had the "Indy 'Blue' Dog." While the "Blue Dog" wasn't my favorite, it was still worth trying. The Chicago dog tasted excellent.

There are plenty of sides to choose from (my favorite are the sweet potato fries) as well as plenty of extras that you can put on your hot dog. If you're looking for a local place with a great staff, good atmosphere, and good hot dogs, this is the place for you. :-)
