The first time you walk in, you will be pleasantly surprised by this place! I remember hearing stories from my parents about how rough this place was in the early 80's when it was Apples, but times have changed quite a bit.
This place feels like a really clean dive bar. Well decorated and they have an awesome selection of craft beers on draft. Of course, I'm a sucker for the $1 Rolling Rock specials when I'm not playing DD for the evening, but, I digress. They do a lot of live bands, plenty of them are terrible but it's a nice change of pace from the usual night club feel of a lot of bars adopt by the time the weekend rolls around. I've never had a full meal here, but I've had apps and they have been decent.
I'm going to end this review with a warning. You WILL see "townies" from all over union county.
I will never write a review like this about a bar in New Jersey south of Jersey City but north & south of Atlantic City ever again.
Kenilworth.
Population a little shy of 8,000 and it's about 2.1 sq miles wide.
Despite all of this...I felt like I was in NYC last night.
Now, I'll be honest...based on my previous excursions here...I expected to go see my brother rap on stage with a rock band in front of a crowd of hipsters.
Him rapping on stage was the most 'abnormal' thing I expected to see here in a town  where the racial makeup is 88% White and 2% African American.  I don't stereotype based on stats, but these things tend to lead to accurate conclusions and you guys saw my last review.
However, everything was totally out of the 'ordinary' at this 'bar' last night.
It's basically a front for some crazy bar/club/music venue/restaurant thingy that belongs 20 miles northeast in NYC.
I'm not saying it's like this every night, but it was my first Friday night here ever and it was poppin'! The band was sick, there was a DJ before and after the band mixing some of the dopest beats ever, two spots where you could get your drink orderin' on and the crowd had direct access to the lead singers shoelaces; that's how close you could get.
When the band finished it's amazing show the DJ played and we got a massive dance party goin...something I never thought would happen here.
In closing....drink specials all night and $4 40ozs...40ozs! I'm not gonna go back to the demographic stats thing, but yeah...don't judge a book by it's cover.
Come down to 104 North 10th Street , Kenilworth, NJ 07033 and check the book out yourself instead.
The place is deceiving from the outside. It is actually really nice and pleasant.
Beverages are prices are good. I didn't eat the food but it looked good.
Bartenders are very friendly.
The music venue was great. I got to see Pyramda again. They always put on a great show. Check them out if you get a chance... <a href="/redir?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F%3Fref%3Dtn_tnmn%23%21%2Fpyramada&s=6c091f753cbf6df117b2815058585909cc87adccb8c12f43dd7f5744bbf8085b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.facebook.com…</a>
