After reading so much about this in different newspapers and magazines over the years, I was expecting a lot. Â I came for some sandwiches and was a bit disapointed. Â The food is ok, but I think cafecito has better quality sandwiches. Â I had the Cubano media noche here along with some other sandwiches I tried and they were just ok.
Review Source:Poor delivery guy, the order was messed up and he didn't have any change. I called ahead and told the guy taking my order I only have a $20. Enjoy that  $10 tip dude, not ordering delivery again. Fail.
Smoothie was bland, didn't come with a straw.
I've dined in before and had a pleasant experience, but I will stay away from delivery. Too much poor communication in-house, apparently.
Pricey, but hopefully delicious bistec get in mah belly!
I stopped here one day after dropping my dog off at the pet hospital next door. I grabbed the bistec sandwich. It tasted soo good!! I can't wait to go back and try other goodies offered here. I will most likely go to the one on Armitage though since they have more indoor seating than the location on clybourn.
I can't remember the last time I was somewhere with service as good as 90 miles. Although we went there before the lunch crowd entered, the server was attentive without being overbearing. He knew the menu fairly well and gave suggestions. The Media Noche sandwich was good but not great. The Steak sandwich was very good and stood up on its own without the condiments. The strawberry milkshake was as good as any milkshake i''ve ever had. You also get the option of ordering without milk to make it more refreshing. I wanted the flan, but decided we ordered enough. I hope to be able to get the chance to go back.
Review Source:its AIGHT, not that great I thought, had a bday party here for a buddy, its BYOB which is cool, but I was not that impressed with the full cooked pig (which we got) I even ate the snout and eyeballs. Those were good, but the meat, it needed to be jucier. like put in a sauce or something, I wanted to like this place, and a lot of the other stuff looked delish, I may return and try something else.
Review Source:Pretty good Cuban food here. The food at this place is tasty, however I find the food  not as flavorful as some of the other Cuban restaurants I've dined in and the portions are average (one entree probably will not to fill a 6' guy's appetite).  We had the Ropa Vieja and roast pork. Both dishes are good and tasty. The pork is tender but not very flavorful. The beef of the ropa vieja is tasty but not as tender and flavorful as could be.
The service is excellent, very nice and attentive waiters and staff. Price is a bit pricey compared to similar ethnic restaurants of this type.
Not much I can add to the reviews this place already has, but I'll try.
I came here to grab some lunch for take out. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a super nice woman who was very helpful. I'd never been there before, so I asked her what some of their best sandwiches were. She recommended the Cubano and the Bistec. I decided to go with the Cubano. It was just the right mix of delicious bread, meat, pickle, cheese, and mustard. I was asked if I wanted to try their hot sauce, so I took it on the side. It was hot, but not burn your mouth hot, and I dipped my sandwich in the sauce before each bite. Simply delicious.
I also tried some of the empanadas - 3 for $6.95. I got the chorizo and cheese, ropa vieja, and guava and cheese. They came with a sort of fresh salsa. My favorite was the chorizo and cheese.
This place was great and I'm looking forward to my next trip there.
I'm going to catch grief for this one because there is something about this place that doesn't woo me as much as it does every one else. Oh yes, it's the salty, over-priced, what is supposed to be inexpensive islander food. This place could be awesome but for some reason I always leave feeling like i've been ripped off. I've been here multiple times so it's not like they had a bad day. For me, the food is just okay but the real problem is the slipping service and the rising prices the busier, and more successful this family run business gets.
Review Source:Awesome. Â Love the ambience. Â Service was on point. Â And the food was quickly prepared and excellent! Â Parking is at a premium near this location, but can be found. Â Â We live in Orlando and have access to Cuban food daily. Â I was very pleased that 90 Miles tasted and looked the same, if not better, than some of the food I've had in Miami. Â I really like that its BYOB. Â Everyone there was having great time enjoying drinks with friends and family. Â The decor reminded me of a few Cuban shops in South Beach. Â Highly recommended.
The goat cheese empenada...delcious!
Puerco Rostizado - oh my freaking goodness! Â Sweet, savory, succulent. Â Definitely a favorite.
Went here last night because I was craving the warm, delicious goodness that only a pressed-sandwich could bring. I ended up disappointed because my Cubano had the two measliest slices of meat... I was so surprised by the lack of protein, I kept opening the Cuban to check. And they had raised their prices. What gives? $6.95 for toasted bread and not much else!? I don't think so.
Review Source:90 Miles is known for their Cuban sandwiches -- and realistically, their sandwiches are good, but I wasn't able to differ it from other cuban sandwiches I've had in the past. Â But what sets 90 Miles apart is their amazing oxtail. Â I got their oxtail dinner special during lunch (it was a bit pricy, around $20) -- it was really tender, fall off the bone. Â
On our way out, we couldn't help ourselves and ordered their empanadas to go and they were delicious!
Great food as always. I asked the guy behind the counter what type of empanadas he recommended and he convinced me to try the chorizo and cheese and guava and cheese. Both were AMAZING.
I'd never had chorizo or guava before, so I was completely relying on my faith in his pallet, and he didn't lead me astray. I got 2 chorizo and cheese empanadas and 1 guava and cheese empanada. I think it was about $6 for the 3. The outer shell of the empanadas were crispy, delicious, and cooked perfectly. The guava and cheese one was the perfect fruity and cream cheesy desert to finish off the gooey and delicious chorizo and cheese ones. Delicious.
I went back 3 days in a row to get more... and I'll be there tomorrow again for lunch.
Now its time to search yelp for a good gym...
Holy Cubano!
90 Miles may be a small restaurant, but their food packs huge flavor. Â You know it's good when I am thinking about the next time I can return while writing this review.
Anyways, the Cuban Sandwich is excellent. Â In my opinion, they nailed the bread, which is one of the most criticized aspects of a great Cuban Sandwich. Â It also had the perfect portions of meat, cheese, and pickle. Â Outstanding! Â
Now the sandwich options come with a side of fried plantain chips, but I must recommend the Yuca Frita.  With that said, do not order the Yuca Frita if you are on a date or have plans later that day.  The wonderfully crispy yuca is covered in garlic.  It's so beautiful, but the side dish is guaranteed to create some space between you and  your neighborhood vampires or significant other.
Overall, great service, great food, great times!
I've recently struck a fancy and appreciation for cuban food... and this place is fantastic. My husband and I split an empanada sampler and each ordered a different "special" of the day. It was some kind of pork dish with garlic sauce, black beans and rice. It was so flavorful. The portion was rather large which lead to indulging the next day when it tasted even better than the first time. My husband had the ox tail special.
Of note... I noticed freshly painted signage from none other than Guy Fieri hanging behind the register. The associate explained to me that he has recently visited and there would be a special about 90 miles on one of his shows (which has probably aired already).
I do wish they had more seating inside. I suppose in the mid fall to early spring this joint becomes mainly a take-out place. Regardless, a great place to dine al fresco for some fresh cuban in the spring and summer!
Pretty yummy overall, and I would say that "I'm a fan" to this place. I'm probably more like a 3.5 though.
Came here with some friends for lunch on a Sunday around noon. There were not too many people around, so our orders came out quickly. The patio is great when the weather is nice.
I left my search of the perfect vegetarian-friendly sandwich to try something new. The waitress suggested one of the specials, a portobello with substitute meat crumbles ($5.95). I enjoyed it, and it was fulfilling and yummy, but I don't remember anything outstanding about the flavor. Maybe I should have tried the tofu sandwich (though I was trying to gauge how firm the tofu would actually be.)
My friend ordered empanadas to see if she liked them. She tried several different flavors, including one meat, one veggie, one goat cheese + jam. I thought they weren't filled very much and the veggie one was unimpressive. The goat cheese + jam one was good though! I'm a sucker for those flavors. She ran back to the counter get a lechon (pork) sandwich and I think that was much better. Hearing about others' meat sandwiches makes me jelly to eat meat.
We also shared some tostones, or flat, fried plantains with garlic. I love tostones and smothered it with the topping, though eating so much garlic turned out to be a bad choice for later in the afternoon.
We went to the one in Roscoe Village - a tiny little place with minimal indoor seating and a handful of outdoor tables.
The food was so delicious - we ordered the cuban, ropa vieja, and the pork plate (sorry, the name escapes me). We also ordered the empanadas and americano coffee.
All were so delicious - no complaints on the taste of the food. The service was super friendly and eager to please. My only complaint is that they got our order wrong . We didn't say anything so I can't hold it against them, and I'm sure they would have fixed it pronto if we did.
I highly recommend this place - although with the weather changing, it may be to-go instead of dining in.
I just stopped in here today for some lunch. Â Today and every time in the past, I've always been greeted with a smile and a hello when it was time to order. Â I don't vary my purchases far from their Cubano sandwiches, but everything friends and I have always shared have been fantastic.
There's a nice patio to sit outside and eat in. Â The staff always brings your food outside when it's ready, and the location has a nice little parking lot so you can avoid parking on the street. Â This place ranks right up there with the shops that sell similar food in little Cuba in Miami. Â If you can't book a flight to south Florida, go here!
Wow- after the first bite, I knew I would be coming back.
I saw this featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I was a little lost in ordering from the menu. The cashier helped me settle on a lechon (pork) sandwich with grilled onions and maduros (fried plantains). The sandwich was great, the service was friendly, and the coffee was great.
I lived in Miami for 5 years, and really didn't think cuban food like this existed in Chicago. Â Some friends took me out for a celebration dinner, and they couldn't have picked a better place. Â I loved it. Â I had the Puerco Rostizado and it was awesome. Â It's a pork dish that's roasted over night, with bacon and I have no idea what else. Â If there's one thing Cuban food is known for, it's pork. Â Awesome. Â I loved the black beans and rice plus sweet plantains too. Â Great for the price too. Â
I picked the dish because it was featured on "Diners Dives and Drive-Ins Chicago", but everything on the menu looks awesome. Â I'm looking forward to taking my wife there soon.
I'll make this short and sweet.
This is the best Cuban food I've had outside of Miami beach. Â Eff it, it's just as good as what I've had in South beach. Â The food was fantastic.
I had an hour to kill up near Roscoe village, so I figured I'd try out 90 Miles since it was so highly reviewed on Yelp. Â I definitely over-ordered, getting the fried plantaines and--at the advice of the yelpers--the ropa Vieja. Â It was so good. Â The ropa with their special hot sauce was a perfect combo. Â Very flavorful meat. Â I came back the next day (this should tell you something) for the cuban sandwich. Â It was even better. Â I love a good cuban sandwich, so I think I'm partial in that way. Â Still, though, it was so good.
If you like cuban food, this should be a stop in the city. Â I definitely won't be forgetting about it.
Please, please visit 90 Miles Cuban Cafe. You won't regret it.
For maximum pleasure do the following things:
-Upon arrival, order a round of Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso Crema (guava and cream cheese pastries) along with some Cortaditos. There are many varieties of Pastelitos, but these are filled with guava paste and a special, sweetened cream cheese mixture. They have a delicate, flaky pasty shell and are perfect for dipping into Cuban espresso--the world's finest espresso, especially when mixed with a little steamed milk. Anyway, the Pastelitos are brought in from Miami proper and they sell out very quickly, which is why you should ask for them right away. They're unmissable. Also worth noting, if you're there for the experience, the Pastelito and Cortadito combination is as classic-Cuban as it gets.
-The portions here are humongous. Plan to share an entree (or two, depending on your party's size) and order a few appetizers instead of one mega entree per person. As far as selection goes, I've tried almost everything and I think that the two best entrees are the Bistec (so huge) and Ropa Vieja dishes. The Ropa Vieja, which translates into 'old clothes' is a savory, shredded beef dish cooked for hours in a tomato-garlic-saffron stew. Â It's served with rice, beans and sweet plantains--a thing of beauty.
-The Croquetas are also absolutely delicious. Order those. The sauce they are served with isn't a traditional accompaniment, but I love it.
-Also, order the Mariquitas. The Mariquitas are shaved, fried plantain chips. They are highly munchable and extremely addictive. They come with a side of Mojo (garlic in oil, basically) which I enjoy pouring all over the Mariquitas, the rest of my food and myself.
-Lastly, we all know this place is byob and that's great, but one of these days you should order the Jupiña--a supremely awesome pineapple soda that Cuban people feed their children so that their tropical bodies grow up full of crazy. It's so good, sweet and unique. Don't miss it either.
I'm Cuban American, born and raised in Miami's Little Havana. I would know.
90 Miles is a great place to get some tasty Cuban style food.
You can't go wrong with the goat cheese and chorizo empenadas, and the sandwiches are very tasty as well (I enjoy the media noche and the croquette sandwiches the most).
The Ropa Vieja (sp?) was quite tender and tasty also - well worth having.
Don't forget to have some tasty coffee while you are there too!
The only detractor to this particular location is that it is quite small inside. If you really need more room for a group, you can always go to the other location where they have a lot of tables. However, I like the people here better ;)
Well worth visiting!
My first impression upon arrival was- "This is tiny... how quaint!"
Somehow though (silly me), I got confused and thought they didn't serve standard American espresso drinks. Sadly, I turned to leave this adorable little place, but the barista waved me over and asked why I was leaving. I explained with a most pathetic look on my face (I'm sure) Â that I couldn't have any form of dairy anymore- not even soy. Sugar either, Â and that I couldn't have any of their tasty-sounding drinks. But the barista, warm and polite, explained to me that he could absolutely make me an Americano. And boy, was that Americano good!
I'm really trying to get my girlfriend to come here with me. She's not a coffee drinker, but I think the look of the place will win her over and we'll be able to make more pit stops here. Thanks, 90 Miles!
I tried the cubano the first time I came here. it was ok. I think the mustard is a bit too much for me. My 2nd time here, I tried the Ropa Vieja and I liked it much more than the Cubano.
Friendly place to stop by to get a quick bite. I ordered it to go both time since the place is a bit small and it was crowded both time I was there.
I keep on forgetting to come back just because I don't use that section of Clybourn Ave. Maybe once a year. Nice place. I would definitely stop to eat if I ever drive by it.
Wow. I was so happy I went here for lunch since I've been meaning to try them out for a while now. Â And OMG I will definitely return!
It was my first time there and they were able to suggest some of their popular dishes. Â I'm not a pork person so I chose ropa vieja (pulled beef mixed w/ sauce [i forget the name of the sauce]). Â Also since I have a sweet tooth, also ordered a side of maduros (fried plantains, sweetened). Â
The Ropa Vieja was delicious. Â It was a lot of beef but it was so good i ate all of it. Â Top it off w/ maduros, oh man oh man. I was so happy! O yes, I also had mango shake and I was in heaven!
Will definitely return!
I love Cuban food, and this was the best I've ever had, hands down.
Since this was my first time at the restaurant, I had the waitress walk me through the menu and suggest some options. I ended up getting the pulled pork dinner, my husband had the ropa vieja dinner, and we shared a chorizo & cheese empanada. Whoa. It. Was. Delicious. The pulled pork was slow cooked for hours and had a melt-in-your-mouth flavor. The ropa vieja was also very good, but I liked my dish a bit better.
This place is no frills dining. The inside is very small with only counter top space indoors and there's a modest patio for outdoor seating. It looks a little like a shack from the outside, but don't be intimidated! It's some of the best food you'll have! I'll definitely be back again.
How do you say, "Damn that's a delicious sandwich," in Cubano?
This little stop offers huge flavors, and authentic Cuban fare. Â It is small inside, with a little counter space to enjoy your food, but there are a handful of tables on the patio. Â There is also a bowl of water outside for your dog, or your buddy that forgot his wallet at home. Â
My favorite sandwich is the Media Noche, which is the Cubano on a delicious sweet n' savory bread. Â The sandwich has cheese, pickles, mustard, ham, and a karate chop of flavor. Â 90 Miles Cafe also has this smokin' hot red pepper sauce that is incredible. Â The sauce definitely burns your mouth, but in a good way; Â Fellow spice aficionados will enjoy the heat for sure.
Look for this Cuban Cafe to be on an upcoming Diners - Drive ins - and Dives. Â That spiky haired flake Guy Fieri was spotted here recently shooting an episode, enjoying his food, and looking like an idiot.
Being my first foray into Cuban food, I can say without reservation, I will be back.
Inexpensive, hearty, and filling. Â Three of us shared several menu items, including a traditional cuban sandwich, avocado salad (whole avocados!!), a special of the day with spanish chorizo, a ropa vieja empenada, and some sweet plantains.
We sat outside on the patio despite the looming storm (we made it out just in time). Â THe patio area was great, the neighborhood is fun. Â We were able to walk from my bestie's new digs, so I think we'll be making 90 miles a regular spot.
And props for the clever name.
Holy crap. We love 90 Miles. Â
The first time I tried this place I did all the specials and had a fantastic experience. Â The appetizer special was a coconut shrimp with a dipping sauce. My husband and I randomly still talk about eating this dish. Â "Remember that coconut shrimp at 90 miles?" "Oh man, I could have just drank that sauce." We have this conversation on a regular basis.
I also had a pork shank for the first time. Where has that been all my life? It was tender and falling off the bone. Served with spinach and sweet potatoes. Very flavorful.
The calamari with marinara was tasty and I really want to try the Cubano sandwich.
I love the lounge place they have for you to wait. It's cozy and intimate. You can actually have a conversation and start your night as opposed to standing around and waiting outside.
My sister-in-law brought me to this unassuming Cuban restaurant, and I'm sure glad she did!
The food was fresh, the hot sauce spicy, and the empanadas were out of this world. Â The ropa vieja was the standout -- saucy, a little sweet, and exploding with awesome flavors. Â The beef and the chorizo are certainly recommended.
For desert I had the cascos de guyaba. Â I guess I didn't believe the description of Guava shells with cream cheese and crackers... but that's what it was. Â Tasty guava pieces surrounding a fistfull of plain-ol' cream cheese, with saltines stuck into it. Â I can't say it was my favorite desert of all time, but there's something homey about it that I suppose would be compelling.
All-in-all though, a great experience. Â Friendly, helpful servers. Â BYOB (we brought two beers and weren't charged a corkage fee), outdoors-indoors atmosphere, and awesome food.
We were in the area and thought we'd stop by to pick up some food. The restaurant has its own private parking lot which helped us because the traffic during after work rush hour was crazy.
The restaurant itself is super cute from the outside. The artwork is clever and fun to look at. Â The inside was a lot smaller than I had expected. Â It is only counter window seating and can sit about 5-6 people max. Â The rest is standing room only.
I placed an order of the ropa vieja dinner to go. It came with white rice, beans, maduro (ripe plantains) and super tender and wonderfully flavored shredded beef in creole sauce. I highly recommend it! One of the best ropa vieja's I've tasted (next to the one's I've had in Florida where many Cubans are). Â I also got an order of the bread pudding. It came with a cream dressing on the side (which I was not a fan of) but the bread pudding was super good!
Service was great and really friendly. Prices were reasonable at about $12 for the dinner. They offer the ropa vieja on a sandwich as well for about $7. So glad we were in the neighborhood to try this place!
