This is a fun little local bar in Golden!
If you're looking for a place to have a cheap drink or two this is it. Also if you're looking for late night fun in Golden this is one of your only options and in my opinion the best one! There are a lot of regulars along with a varied crowd of all ages. I notice a lot of places in Golden treat their regulars with much better treatment than other customers. We have lived in town over a year but just because we don't frequent a place we tend to get snotty service. Not here. We really appreciate that every staff member we have encountered here is nice and friendly. If the bar isn't packed the bartender will even come to your table to refill your drinks in a timely and attentive manner!
Their drink specials are cheap and fun! Like the fact that ladies drink free from 9 pm-midnight on Wednesday and Thursday nights. There is always karoke on Fridays and Saturdays which can be a really great way to end a fun night with friends, we've done it on many occasions!
They have a jukebox for the nights there are no karoke, good sized and placed TV's for watching the game, and a pool table. They used to have Ski Ball and we miss that so much! Where did it go?
A full bar and a limited but okay selection of beers on tap make it easy for everyone to find something they like. Â
I believe they even serve toaster oven pizzas if you're hungry. Â They last time we were there they had just added this beautiful area to sit outdoors along Washington but be aware it isn't dog friendly or for smokers. Just a nice patio area to enjoy your drinks outdoors.
This place is Aces! Good music on the jukebox. Four stars for a good dive bar so you'd have to like that atmosphere like I do. It's all you'd hope for when your standards are low. Take your pick between plush, almost old school fifties diner style seating or on one of the bar stools sitting in front of a traditional wooden bartop. Friendly service compliments this place and makes it a favorite among locals as I found out after talking with them. No doubt the place is set to get away from tourism folk and is tucked off to the side of one of the busiest areas in Golden, CO. Recommended for a good time!
Review Source:I am a fan, but then again, I am a sucker for drinking for cheap in a fun atmosphere.
The reason we came here is because of the huge sign for $1.50 drafts and $5.50 pitchers 7 days a week until 7pm. NICE!
Our server was nice and attentive, which you sometimes miss out on when you're at a bar like this.
I couldn't help but notice girls drink free from 9-12pm on Wednesday and Thursdays. Too bad I don't live here. There are regular cash prize beer long tournaments, pool, and a jukebox. Overall, an amazing dive bar with good prices.
The good: prices, service, big TV, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere.
The bad: didn't seem like there was food available, old man playing sappy tunes on the jukebox, and not the best selection of beer (this is the only reason I didn't give it five stars)
I would love to have a place like this where I go to school.
I have all my teeth and I don't live in a dumpster, this place is not for me. If you are coming off of a weeklong meth bender this might just be your place. It smells like piss and the staff looks like something off of squidbillies. I'm going to take a picture of the men's restroom and post it so you can see. Seriously, you could get crabs from the toilets.
Review Source:Although I've never actually been here, I wanted to surprise my brother who lives in Golden for his birthday by paying for his tab at Ace Hi since it's his favorite bar. It was an odd request, but Jody the bartender helped me out and when I told her what I wanted to do, her response was "Heck yeah! Let's get your brother some birthday beer." Â My brother was SO happy with the surprise and I can't wait to try the fireball shot when I visit him!
Review Source:Its just a simple dive bar. A few regulars, and then pretty much all mines students (who recently turned 21) on ladies night. The music is very random, and sometimes it stops out of nowhere. With a few booths and bar seats, the place is very narrow, and it can get way crowded and loud on a thursday night.
Its not awful but its also nothing special. You can find some cheap beer specials but most of the mixed drinks are weak. Staff is usually friendly but some of them do have a bit of an attitude issue sometimes.
Best bar in Golden I've experienced. Â Friendly people, friendly bartenders. Â Happy hour 3pm-7pm seven days a week $1.50 pints and $5.50 pitchers for PBR and a few others in that roster (hey-yo!) Â Comically they even have morning special for these prices as well from 7am-11am. Â Glad I went, look forward to going again.
Review Source:At first when we came, I thought I had just stepped into a bar at a bowling alley. Of course, it's a dive bar, so the vibe is a lot different from your lounge/fist pumping crowd similar to the jersey shore. The drinks were cheap and everyone in there was super friendly, so I can't complain. They have karaoke on Saturday nights and the 4 of us attempted to belch Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer at the top of our lungs! We bought so much booze that we couldn't really finish it either. Good times!
Review Source:Don't go into the Ace expecting an ultra-trendy bar complemented by delicious appetizers: the extent of their menu consists of hot dogs and frozen pizzas for those who have the extreme drunken-munchies and can't seem to stumble their way to Burger King. However, the Ace is very good at what it does: providing cheap drinks and friendly bartenders to college students, Coors employees, and those just passing though Golden alike.
Perhaps I've lived in Golden too long, but the Ace has grown on me in a major way. It might be the old beer-soaked carpet smell, or the friendly staff, or the fact that I had my very first drink as a 21-year-old here (Cement Mixers, try one tonight Yelpers!!!). Oh, and two words: Ladies'. Night. Wednesday and Thursday nights (9 pm - 12 am) always prove to be a good time, but don't go just expecting to have "one" drink; it always turns into a contest to see who can wade through the sea of people to get the most free drinks before midnight.
Oh, Ace.
Great place for midnight shots on your 21st. Cheap beer when all you want to do is drink away the sorrows of a long day. Random music from all over the spectrum. Â Bartenders you can get familiar with and a bar crowd that never really seems to go away, even on the nights when students nearly take the place over.
I've had some good times at the Ace, some not so good times, and a few "what the hell just happened? times. Â The Ace is a place where memories are made - if you're not there to forget, that is.
Great dive bar with a plethora of games. Everything from darts, to pool to big buck hunter. They have two happy hours: from 7 am to 11 am (for those who are truly committed to being wasted all day) and 3 to 7. Solid deal of $5 domestic pitchers and $1.25 pints. Microbrew pitchers are $9, but that is still a hell of a deal.
Music is bizarre and completely random. In the hour I was there I was treated to the musical stylings of Lady Gaga, Jack Johnson, ZZ Top and Taylor Swift.
We were meeting some friends for lunch at Woody's across the street and had arrived a half an hour too early. Â "Oh no!", we thought, "What ever will we do with ourselves?!?". Â So we Yelped up the nearest watering hole and Ace Hi was clearly the spot.
We figured it was Saturday around noon, so Bloody Marys were probably in order. Â We sidled up to the bar and ordered two. Â
The place is rather narrow and long - typical of old western town construction, and hosted a bevy of local regulars - a few of them clearly well on their way to Tipsyville.
A delightful gal brought us our libations. Â Delicious. Â One of the better Bloody's I've had in a while.
Within moments, a friendly banter was struck up between us and a couple of old timers. Â Good times.
Ok, this is not meant to be a story... Â Good drinks, gracious people, great prices. Â This tavern is Aces!
Dear Ace-Hi Tavern,
I had fun at yours last night. It was buzzing with people and I liked that ladies (or sluts and whores as your charming bar tender put it) drank free and pitchers of beer were 4 dollars.
I had never played beer pong before. Thank you for introducing this great American sport to me - my American experience is now nearly complete(minus American footie and a bbq), although I must say I do not like the super competitive folk we had on our second game. This however is not your fault so I cannot hold this against you.
Your shot ski was deadly in the way shot skis really should. The group of gentlemen in bathrobes and shower caps were quite entertaining and we talked to a lot of friendly (if not too intoxicated) people.
I wish you had more rest rooms though dearest Ace- Hi, as our bladders are not what they used to be, and your beer is ... well plentiful to put it that way.
Dearest Ace-HI thank you for one of the funnest nights I have had here so far. However, I do have a return to make: my hangover.
My husband and I went to Ace Hi Friday night because he had been there once before and had told me that I would love it. I think I died and went to dive bar heaven because Ace Hi delivered!
It had all the elements that make a great dive bar - mixed clientele, a TV that had baseball on for the sports lovers, TVs with a random movie (Saving Private Ryan on Friday night) that seems a bit out of place, a jukebox with killer music, cheap drinks, and a friendly staff.
We chatted during the night with some of the people sitting at the bar, and rocked out to the tunes from the jukebox. This is a no-nonsense bar and just has a great vibe to it. Plus any place with a Dale Jr clock and horns mounted behind the bar has to be worth checking out!
If you ever come to Golden, this place is a must see!!! Â Dive bar all the way. Â They have beer pong tournaments for the Mines students, a pool table, pinball...and a Nascar pool. Â This place even opens at 7am so if you ever feel the alcoholic need for a beer that early, this is the place to go.
Review Source:I give it five stars only because I recognize it for what it is--a total dive.  The Ace's usual crowd is the most unlikely mix of tough-looking bikers and geeky Mines students.  I celebrated my 21st birthday there a million years ago.  We lived within walking distance, and I don't remember getting home...  I was still drunk when I showed up for classes the next morning.  They also used to have some kinda crazy-cheap pitchers of Budweiser beer if one had a Mines ID.  I am too snotty and sober to go anywhere near the Ace  these days (or the last 15 years), but I still get all nostalgic and sentimental every time I see it.
Review Source:This place is a no-nonsense dive -- and it's great! Golden is a great town (and thanks to its location in a canyon, relatively cut-off from the suburban sprawl nightmare that is metro Denver). I worked there and lived in central Denver, and always came to this place if it was decided to stay around town after work for a beer. The crowd is as mixed as you can get -- students from the School of Mines come here after mooching three free beers by cutting through the Coors brewery tour to the company tour bar, (a good tip -- try it out, if it's still allowed) truck drivers and Coors brewery employees, and bartenders and waitstaff who just got off work from their bs/yuppy bars down the street. For a town with the constant smell of hops and barley (yet another reason to stay), this is the best place in town to catch a cold one, shoot some pool and relax.
Review Source:The Ace is hands-down the best dive bar ever. Â The place still smells like stale smoke, six months after Colorado banned smoking in bars. Â The people there are fun to watch, and they're easy to get along with. Â The bartenders are prompt, personable, and fun to chat with. Â Their happy hour specials can't be beat, and their normal prices are pretty good too. Â There's pool and arcade games, and of course a jukebox. Â Be careful what you play on the jukebox, though, the locals can get rowdy when their favorite songs get played!
