So I went to Alberto's yesterday. I have to say, this place exceeds my expectation. I arrive there at 7:15 since there website says beginner class starts at 7:15p. However it was not. I was told it starts at 7:30p. From the reviews I knew that the instructor may be late (and guessed the beginner lesson will only learn basic steps and a few turns, which I already know), I took a walk around and come back later at about 8:15p. It turns out they teach pretty advanced moves. I only took a few lessons before and I had a hard time to catch up. That said, Pantea is a really passionate teacher, and I would definitely recommend her.

People are generally very friendly and nice. Several experienced ladies in the intermediate class were nice enough to guide me through the steps. Contrary to what people said in the review, I don't think it was full of nerdy engineers or something. I can see that all the leaders there are no new faces and they invite everyone to dance and they are soooooo good. It's true that males (slightly) outnumbered ladies. But one of the reasons is that some ladies will only dance with their partners. I ended up only  danced with a few ladies and watching some of the fantastic couples most of the time.

For beginners, especially ladies, it will be completely okay if you don't know how to dance, just trust the leader. If he is not good as you, give some patience and be nice. Every expert starts from knowing nothing. I tried to invite a lady to dance but she said she didn't know how to and asked me if I can lead. I was probably too humble to mention I am a beginner and she rejected me, and ended up sitting there all night. So, for guys, it will probably be better to take some series lessons before unless you are very social and won't be intimidated by making mistakes since the others are just so good :p

PS. they sell student ticket for only $6!

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are salsa instruction nights. I thought it was good for novices and intermediates. Yes, I know, there's a few  women Yelpers expressing how many geekie, engineer, low life guys there are asking them to dance during instruction nights--- let me (an engineer, geekie guy) just say this to her: BEOTCH. May you continue flipping burgers and continue waiting for that perfect date while we IPO.

I thought there were a few strange guys (all harmless), in fact, the women out numbered the guys (initially). I thought, all the people I met there tonight were respectful. Yes, the bar tender was aloof, but after breaking the ice by speaking spanish, it was fine.   1-2-3  5-6-7. Quick-quick-slow...I'll be dreaming this tonight.

    I would come back.

Me gustaría volver.

I've come here for Salsa on-and-off for over 2 years.  The lessons (with Pantea) are ok, what you would expect for club lessons.  She does a good job picking a routine that isn't too hard to learn, but also explains some details that can help general dance style.

The crowd here is mixed.  Some people who have obviously been dancing a long time and are very good.  A few sketchy dudes.  A few guys who think they are really good and have no idea what they are doing.  But, I find that this is like the crowd most places I go to.

The lessons often get started a bit late and the beginners lesson is sparsely attended.  Usually at the end of the intermediate lesson the club is packed.
