A real punk rock bar.

Alex is a stud. He used to bounce the best live venue in the LBC (The Foothill) and now he runs the best punk bar in SoCal.

Both me and my friend dealt with credit card fraud after being here once. She spent $16 and I spent $35 here, and our charges at some place called 'corner bar b que' (in Tennessee...) started at those same charges. Sketchy as hell, BEWARE of this place if you're using a card. Someone here is actively committing fraud.

I give this place 5 stars for a bar and 2 stars for a music venue. The ambiance is nice when its not jammed packed so let's call it a 4.

Drinks: They have everything from about 50 different blended scotch whiskeys to 3 dollar well drinks. If you are a beer drinker like me, they have a rotating selection of craft beers as well as 3 dollar Pabst tall boys and 1 dollar Olympias. It's a great place to go with your friend that never has any money as he can drink all the cheap domestic he likes with the 20 bucks his Aunt gave him and you can drink something better.

Venue: The sound here sucks. It just does. Not a big deal if you're seeing your 18 yr old cousin's hard core band for 5 bucks. But when a bigger band plays and brings all their equipment it sounds like you're in an 89 Camry with a sound system installed at a swap meet. It also gets hot and muggy inside and starts to smell like ass if its crowded. Parking can be a bitch on those nights.

The People: Awesome. Except that douche who keeps singing ballads on Karaoke night. Screw that guy. This is one of the few places I'll go by myself and by the time the night is done I've made new friends. One time the guy sitting next to me ordered 100 Olympias. He announced to the 15 people there that night that we were welcome to have some but if we did we couldn't leave till they were all gone. All 100 were finished and I got a cab.

Tried the Planet Terroir. I was amazed that the bartender on a busy Friday night had notes to look through to get the recipe, as I referred to it as, " that drink in the Gazette", (actually it was the Long Beach Post). I give it 10 for creativity, and a 3 for taste. There was nothing WRONG with it, it just had no distinct flavor other than citrus.

They had a one man band Phil Shane - The One Man Legend, he was quite a good entertainer. There was no cover for this.

The decorations are a must-see. The vampire stuff is not my taste, yet I love the sensual portraits, disco ball and velvet prints, they really create ambiance.

he Bar: This dark little punk rock bar is famously known throughout Southern California for having some famous bands such as, Black Flag, Green Day and The Offspring. This is also the set for the popular HBO show True Blood (Fangtasia) and some scenes from the movie Tenacious D Pick of Destiny.
The bar is located on Anaheim street in Long Beach. A difficult one to find since there is no real sign designating the building. The main entrance to this bar is located in the back, off an alleyway, again, no sign in sight.
The Crowd: Depending on the band for the night, this can change drastically. Tonight's crowd was punk. A whole lot of piercings and a whole lot of tattoos. Ran in to a guy from London, he was 57 years young with around 25 piercings in his face alone. He was here on vacation with his wife and decided to hit Alex's, because apparently, this bar is talked about abroad also. Cool guy rockin out the whole night.
Service: Surprisingly excellent. The bar was packed, and when we say packed, we mean fucking slammed. By the time the first band started playing, this place was beyond capacity. Everyone standing shoulder to shoulder in a cluster fuck drunken daze. The stack of people waiting for drinks was about 4 thick all the way around the bar, however, it took but a second for a bartender to notice you waiting, and was prompt about getting you what you need. Very impressive.
Prices: $5 tall cans of PBR along with a very nice drink menu including our personal favorite Moscow Mule.
Entertainment: Karaoke on Tuesday nights. Live music almost every other night of the week. Check http://www.alexsbar.com/… for the upcoming events.
Restroom: The only complaint here; the the sit down shitter doesn't have a door. Not that we recommend ever dropping a steamer in a bar, but if ya gotta go, no other choice than to have someone possibly walk in on you mid squeeze.
Closing statement: On a show night, be prepared to pay a cover. Get here early to grab a table. The patio is cool, equipped with a taco cart provided by Gringo's Tacos on the weekends, however, even though the patio is enclosed, they don't allow drinks outside. Overall, it's a cool little spot. Come for a drink, stay for a show. Great cocktail menu too.

Came here to see Vektor few months back. The place looked shady from the outside, it doesn't have a sign from Anaheim street big enough to spot it while driving by. Still, the place inside is really cool, looks nice, dark but not too dark where you can't see where you are going, the women's bathroom is surprisingly very nice, the bartenders were polite, smiled and were very nice, and... just found out from another yelper on here that it's 'Fangtasia' on Trueblood. Will be visiting again soon!

Alex's Bar is Long Beach's best-kept secret for live music.

My husband and I came here last night for the first time to attend the Punk Rock Social headlined by The MUFFS and featuring Pu$$y-Cow, The Ex-Gentlemen, and Dollyrots.

Awesome lineup, great acoustics, muted lighting and plenty of room on the dance floor. Crowd was pretty mellow for a punk rock show (read: no moshing).

The interior of this intimate venue is classy yet at the same time bizarrely decorated: vibrant red walls adorned with dated concert posters and velvet paintings, Halloween motifs, rustic crystal ceiling chandelier. There's a photobooth in the corner which is pretty cool.

Diverse, casual crowd. Unpretentious, friendly bartenders. Reasonable drink prices. Clean restroom.

Tips: Entrance is in the back. Limited parking spaces so plan accordingly.

Place was hard to find, they're in a alley behind an autozone -_-

Went In and notice the place have a lot of space which was cool for me. The bartenders are nice and friendly.

Prices are reasonable. Good experience.

I've been here twice so far.

My first time here, I went with my boyfriend and his group of guy friends. There weren't many people there. We had a couple drinks and just lounged around for a bit then left.

My second time here, I went with a few girlfriends for the Mr. Mister Miyagi live karaoke night. I believe they only have it on the first Saturday of the month. It was so much fun! They really hooked us up with the drinks. It was just a great night of drinking, dancing and singing with friends. I would definitely come back for the live karaoke nights. :)

Good shows.

Good beer selection: Ellies Brown Ale in a can is my favorite!

The bathroom is always pretty clean and stocked.

Drop the $10 cover, its too expensive and patrons will spend that money at the bar and tip the bartenders...were in a recession people!

Is bingo still around? We showed up on a night it was supposed to be going on and we were 4 out of the 6 people in the place...*womp womp*

Ill be back for more!

Oh my god, I'm the old person talking about a bar being too loud. Get me my cane and let me be on my porch.

There are some great points to Alex's bar. Mainly: there is no cover, the live band backing the 90's karaoke on Saturday nights is legit and there is a guy with a food truck in the backyard of the bar flipping some kitchen-sink style burritos and quesadillas.

So far so good.

Howsoever, the volume is OUT of control. My very hipster Mexican coke bottle was vibrating near my teeth every time I went for a swig. Eardrums physically hurt. Kidneys were doing the macarena.

But hey! Not to worry, you can buy a pair of earplugs at the bar for a dollar. Done. Of course, then you're bouncing up and down with your friends near the stage and all of you are plugged up and nobody knows what's going on, but yo, it's just another Saturday night in the LBC.

TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN.

thanx.

I think Alex's is on my top 2 list for best bar in Long Beach (it's a tie with House of Hayden).
I love this place. It has great decor, it's clean, always has a great crowd of people when I go, and has cheap drinks.

Finally went here again last night to check out Mr. Mister Miyagi for some 80's live band karaoke, and it was so much fun. I definitely recommend this for everyone! Even if you have sworn off karaoke...just go!

I am a little disappointed that they no longer have Strongbow, but now have Ace Hard Cider (which tastes like a jolly rancher..too sweet to drink). But I don't care. Their drinks are cheap, so I will continue drinking them.

I had the pleasure of DJing at Alex's Bar last weekend and was very impressed with the soundmen, space, and vibe. The DJ set-up worked well and the soundmen made sure things sounded great for us and the live bands. I liked the red walls and interesting vintage paintings that adorned them. The crowd was diverse and the atmosphere welcoming. The low stage was perfect for an intimate show, and the large dancefloor was packed with lively patrons all night long. Plus there's a photo booth! Long Beach is a drive, but after such a great experience I wouldn't hesitate to return. Fantastic spot!

To start off with something positive, I like Jackalopes. Nice to see a Jackalope here.

We entered and were informed that there was a $10 cover. Uhm, there is NO ONE in here, as in zero other people. I told the guy I wasn't paying and continued towards the bar. He didn't argue with me.

My girl and I sat down and were greeted by some fool with a stupid ass mustache. Looked like he glued it on his little hipster face. Separating us was the bar and a bowl of fruit with a cucumber. I couldn't help but pick up the cucumber and ask 'stache boy what it was for. He grabbed it from me with a sneer and replied that it was for garnishment. He then proceeded to wash it with his hands that were most certainly cleaner than mine. When it met his specifications for cleanliness he placed the now sanitized phallic vegetable back in the bowl and asked us what we'd like to drink.

I replied that I'd like an Oly and a Schlitz. Perfect, only bar in LB that I've been to with Schlitz, and a 16oz can at that. That's the two stars right there. Schlitz. I love Schlitz. It's the beer that made Milwaukee famous. Just a kiss of the hops!

Hey Alex, just a little word to wise buddy...if you don't want people touching your vegetables then keep them further than arms reach from anyone drinking alcohol. Just sayin'

Unless I just absolutely have to get me some Schlitz I will not be returning to Alex's

Cool place with good beer selection.
Red walls, paintings of topless, exotic women and a large area for dancing while listening to the live music. Acoustics aren't great, but it is a bar, so ::shrug::
No food, but they had a little taco grill set up out back, and some great Rockabilly playing on the stage (including Willie Watson and The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit). Whoever books these shows has great taste.
Also they have Bulleit and Buffalo Trace behind the bar, so yay for a little variety. More so than your average cowboy bar.

Love it!

Was here for trivia night on Wednesday. Good, strong drinks, great food from the taco "truck"/stand they have in the back (you MUST eat that green rice he has). AWESOME categories (serial killers, bill murray movies, james bond theme songs, etc), but still fairly challenging trivia questions. Like who knows what fish semen is called??! Well, one team did!

No douchey people in the crowd, just regular people who love trivia.

I can't say anything else about the other nights, but trivia night is chill--I will definitely be back!

I love this bar and it will forever remind me of Yelp. Everyone should know about this bar.

I have been here a few times with other Yelpers and for a few Yelp events.

I've made some cool friendships here and have been here with an ex-boyfriend; all of them being Yelpers.

There is karaoke, plenty of dance space, a long bar and friendly bartenders.

Parking is on the street or near the Auto Zone, I believe, unless they do towing now. Haven't been here in a few years...

I'm guessing like a lot of people, I came to Alex's Bar because its Fangtasia on True Blood. And like true movie magic, the actual place is a lot smaller than it appears on TV; but you can recognize many things from the show from the rear parking lot to various parts of the bar.

With my TV-nerdyness aside, I have to say this place is a pretty cool dive bar. There's unique decor throughout and a there's even a stage area for live bands.

Unfortunately I came quite early in the day so it was pretty quiet, though not empty. I believe they have many events throughout their calendar, and there's a cover charge at night when there are various live bands playing. I would like to come back during a busier time to get the true vibe of this place.

Sadly the parking lot is extremely small. Even coming here early the parking lot was almost full. And thanks to Yelp I knew to not park next door at Autozone!

Wow, what a venue! This place is large, the bartenders are great, and the live music is simply tops. I was here to see the Swinging Utters and they rocked! The three bands (yes, count them three) were excellent, too. Everything from acoustic to rock to punk. You ask for it, they got it.

Did I mention they have a taco stand on the patio? Really, I just can't say enough about how impressed I was.

This place was great. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because it was a real pain in the ass to find and that irritates me. There is no sign for the bar and the parking lot is in the back off a street named Orizaba. I live about ten minutes from this bar, but it took me over thirty to get there. But once I was there I was pleased! Cheap, stiff drinks, live music, and no cover. What more do you need? One of the bartenders was seriously cute, too. I didn't catch his name.

Awesome dive-bar with a gorgeous interior...pretty classy without being upscale; hip without being obnoxious.

I didn't get the name of the female bartender who served me, she was an older lady but seemed pretty hardcore. She made me the best mixed drink I've ever had at a bar -- I like to get rum and cherry coke because the cherry grenadine helps everything go down. Hers was just...hands down the best, I don't think I could have done a better job if she allowed me back there to make it myself.

Not a whole lot of seating for when it gets crowded, but again, it's a sick spot. I really wish I would have gotten a beer while there because it seems like they had a pretty decent selection on tap! Next time.

I used to regularly drive down to Long Beach from LA just to attend First Fridays at Alex's Bar-- it was always a packed, hot & sweaty night, with vintage amateur burlesque videos projected onto the wall, and the best soul & old skool R&B you could dance to.. and people WOULD actually dance! and dance well, at that.

As usual, the Long Beach scene has that Rockabilly/ punk/ hipster vibe to it, and First Fridays at Alex's showcased the finest.

Coming on days where there isn't a hit DJ or band can result in a rather empty & divey venue, but that gives you a chance to meet Alex himself and feel blessed by his down to earth presence.

In the early days of hipster-dome (we're talking early-mid 2000ies), you could be sure to find the creme de la creme of hipsters here. But now that everyone's a hipster, people have let their guard down and more fun can be had! Alex's is a place where you remove yourself from the LA pretense and just have a blast with your friends and great music.

What an awesome bar! I've only been twice now, but it's nice. I love the feel inside the place, decor and all. Alex has been nothing less than friendly to my wife and I and Lulu is awesome. If you haven't gone here yet and you happen to be in the area (and don't mid punk rock), you gotta check it out! To top it off, the entrance, as most of you know, was used for the filming of True Blood's Fantasia. The inside wasn't used for filming, but they practically replicated it on the sound stage. Being a True Blood fan myself, it just adds to the appeal even more!

Only been here once but it was pretty much the nail in our coffin on the decision to move to long beach soon. We've been looking for the 30-something-non-hollywood-type part of town since we moved here and I think we finally found it. Anyhoo - back to alex's.

PBR tall boys, decent service, good shows, what more do you need? saw the Samoans there Fri night and had a blast (10 bucks - we saw them at House of Blues when we first got here, it was almost 50. Live and learn). Cheap drinks, a badass collection of 70s/80s bar signs, everyone that worked there seemed really laid back (which, coming from hollywood, its rare to find non-douchebag "im so much cooler than you" bartenders) I like that its in a real neighborhood, there's an actual community there, and we had a great night. Def. going to be a regular there in the near future. Oh and for people not from LA - they have freakin high life. Hooray!

The Place is awesome. The second you get to the door you are greeted by the nicest, and funniest door men you will ever meet! They are chill, but you know if someone gives them trouble they will take them down.

The Bartenders are super nice and not pretentious like some bars. They Drinks are cheap and strong and that's was really matters. After you throw back a few drinks you can step into the photo booth to document the evening. They work good as memory joggers for the evening :)

Overall this place is fantastic and you have no reason not to go here and have a great time!

Saturday afternoon, 7:30. Get a call from Le Mo, asking me what I'm doing at 9. No plans. Let's go to Alex's Bar for karaoke, she says. It's be fun, she says. And it was!

We went with her brother who is a regular there apparently. Found street parking and a go in for a $7 cover which isn't bad. Better than some places that are $10 and up. We got there and there weren't that many people, still some room to move and groove, hit up the photo booth like the girls that we are. Grabbed a PBR, made our way back to the front of the floor. It happened to be Star Wars night as was evident by the girls dressed as Princess Leia and the Mr. Mister Miyagi guys in full costume, fronted by Darth Vato.

We noticed the sign up sheet and the song choice list. All 80's of course. I figured if I was with anyone who wouldn't ridicule me, it would be Le Mo and her brother even though when I saw him, he greeted me with "Hey Diarrhea Breath." I chose my song and hoped no one had done it before. Because there are rules! One song, per person, per night. If someone has done a song before, chose another one! and as would be any house rule: RESPECT THE MUSICIANS AND THE EQUIPMENT!

This place is a really fun hangout, a random crowd but all of them really nice. After my rendition of "I Love Rock N' Roll" by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, I got so much love from everyone! A girl named Brittany who I met outside was right in the front cheering me on, and some guy named Diego said I sounded great and it was an awesome choice for my range. These people know their stuff!

I will absolutely be coming back here!

I know this place is on Tru Blood, and overall it is a cool place to hang, but the service and the way they treat customers are terrible.

Being loyal customers for years, you would think that we would get treated with basic respect and common courtesy. Last night my friends and I went, and although we did not sing karaoke, noticed the person running the karaoke had a tip jar. My friend, upon noticing the he looked miserable, decided that she would take the rest of her change in her wallet and put it in the tip jar. Around 2 minutes later, we had noticed a shower of change being dropped upon us, in our drinks and all over the table. Then, he proceeded to yell at us, telling us how rude we are and how we are terrible people for giving him change and that it is completely disrespectful, and then tried to have us kicked out.

As paying customers this is completely unacceptable. WE DIDN"T EVEN USE HIS SERVICE!!! My friend gave him the last of her change out of the kindness of her heart. I worked as a barista for almost 3 years, and Im used to giving people pennies and nickels and having them keep it, not even putting it in the tip jar. Im shocked that he would have the audacity to throw change and yell at paying customers, and the bar tenders and managers did absolutely nothing about it. We did not come out to support their business and then be made to feel less than human. They lost the business of me and my friends, and we will never come back.

You bet your sweet ass I'm fronting Mr. Mister Miyagi here very soon.

I was so nervous upon seeing them for the first time on cinco de mayo. Korean Alex and I had a couple of drinks, enjoyed most of the show, and drove home safe and sound. Are the singers great? Not a chance. Are they wildly entertaining? Absofreakinlutely. Do I sorta have a small crush on the guitarist/backup singer guy who kinda looks like Ted Allen? I plead the fifth.*

Drinks were decently priced, definitely increasing in super strength as the night wore on... There's a weird rule about no dancing on the dancing floor, but now I can see why. It's reserved for MMY groupies.

I only wish Alex's were closer to home. Because next time I'm gonna rock out with my c*ck out, sober or otherwise, and it's likely that my Football Knight or some other poor suckered-in friend of mine will have to drive my ass alllllllll the way home.

* Okay. The answer is yes. Don't worry FK, I still love you :)

This place is big and has a decent set up for shows. I also like that they have an enclosed smoking area so you don't need to wait in line to get back in all the time. The pool table is alright as well placed away from the crowds. It has it's own little seating area and always has chalk.
My problem with this place is drink prices. I showed up after 11pm and I ordered the same drink all night and paid a different price every time. I even got shorted on my change once. I think I waited about another 15 minutes just to get my missing change back. I don't know if the price of a draft beer changes prices several times between 11pm and 1:30am every night but it did for me.
I don't think the bartenders were intending on charging me differently, I just think they all believe the prices are different or were just too busy.

I came here recently for a free concert that was put on by Alex's Bar. The concert was set to start at 9pm so our group gets here on time. (*Not my choice). When we arrived, the bar was empty. :P The band actually didn't start playing until around 11pm. Once they got started though, it was good.

The crowd here that night was a little different but everyone was friendly. There is minimal seating at this bar but we managed to find one of the few tables that were there. It was a little hard to find at first, and you will NOT be able to see it driving on Anaheim Street. So it'd be better if you parked your car, and looked for it on foot! The entrance is in the back!

Great bar, tons of different kinds of beer. IT got a little chilly in here event with all the people inside. I'd come back.

Went back to Alex's Bar for karaoke literally a year after my first visit.

It's still a dive.
Music is still great.
Still can't park at Autozone.
Photo Booth is still there ($3)
And drinks are still cheap.

However, this time the drinks were hit or miss (bartenders were swamped) and the cover charge went up from 5 bucks to 6 even though their website still advertises a $5 cover (door guy claimed "inflation").

Also, they have signs posted everywhere that say "No Dancing-No Moshing- No In's and Out's." Excuse me, but, No Dancing?!?! How do you not dance?! You're standing in a place, very similar to a warehouse I might add, listening to live 80's music! I found that just plain ridiculous. I'm okay with the no moshing, but no dancing?! I know I didn't drive all the way out to Long Beach for that....

Would I return? With the right people and an extra dollar in my pocket. But it may be another long while...

Alex, I like your bar. It's black. It's red. It has skullz. I like that too. Really. Truly.

Alex, your bar is smaller in that "cozy" way. I like the layout. I like the actual bar itself, too. I love the stage. Did I say I like it?

I had a good time. I'll come back again. Thanks for the hospitality.

Alex's Bar is so ironic. A dive bar, that offers an obnoxiously wholesome sing-along environment.

I really don't get what the hype is with this bar. In theory it sounds fun. Karakoe, live band, full house etc.... But for some reason its never fun. Even after having tried it several times. Even after getting trashed once. Even in good company, it has never ever been fun.

Drinks are served in plastic to-go cups. It makes me feel like I'm at a house party back in high school...um no thanks, totally not the kind of night Im looking for. The bar-staff is painstakingly unorganized and they dont seem to really have the desire to hustle back there. The bathrooms are an STD party in other words, DISGUSTING. The smoking patio has all kinds of random trash sitting in the corner and get this, NO DRINKS allowed outside! (even though its enclosed.)

The crowd is a weird mix. You got your OC kids heavily dominating, next are the bachelor student types with their tall cans in hand, and lastly are the locals from around the neighborhood. The cover band proudly plays obnoxious and terribly played-out music, to which the kids sing along to. It's all very wholesome and contrived.

To me not worth the $5 cover charge. Get me to a dimly lit bar where I can have a grown up conversation and a drink in a real glass, from a bartender who's not totally worn down by the crazy crowd, please!

Also parking is a nightmare and cops like to cruise the neighboring streets. Have fun getting a DUI on the way home.

Alex's is still one of my old LB standbys, whether it's just a random night drinking or Mr Mister Miyagi, but Alex's added a new night to it's repertoire earlier this year: trivia night. Sure, this place may seem be the last place on earth you'd expect a trivia night, but David hosts a damn fine one there on Wednesday nights now.

For just $5 per person, your team can win anything from a free round of beers to $150. Even if you don't win, $5 ain't too shabby - and they practically give drinks away Wednesday nights. $1 Olympia beers, $3 Tecate, $4 for most anything on tap, and mix drink specials too.

Ah, Alex's, you've long been my Saturday night and sometimes Monday night home, but now you're my new Wednesday night home too.

So what's your type? Come here often? Well, I'm startin' to develop a thing for racy red walls, seductively strong drinks AND pleasure enhancing photo booths! And after last Friday, I may have found my perfect little playmate in Alex...who was arrestingly androgynous...was it a "he?" or was it a "she?" So many mind-altering characteristics of both! With Alex, ANYTHING goes!

Alex has all the charms of a favorite dive. The "she" will lure you inside of her using her potent drinks and decor hanging from her ceiling. The "he" will continually egg you on to take that second, third, no...fifth shot of the evening and dare you to smash an empty can of Pabst Blue Ribbon on your forehead. The "she" will blow on you from above (the ceiling fans were heavenly) while you're panting away while the "he" whips you around on the dance floor. And the "he" will keep you standing under those heavenly ceiling fans while he cracks you up with his jokes...afterall, what "he" wouldn't wanna be blown (down upon) all night, right?

Alex is also a fun catch! Live karaoke on many nights (check the schedule) and killer DJs that'll spin ya some funky tunes. When you're feelin' saucy, snag yourself a place in line for the photo booth, which is only a couple of bucks! Just be prepared to push hard and pack yourself in there...Alex's photo booth is still a little tight.

And if you're really feelin' saucy, snag yourself a place on the outside patio. I wasn't privy to this, but from what I was told...ANYTHING goes...just the way ya like it out there.

Overall, Alex is quite the little playmate. Pull up, push your way in, stay awhile, dance the night away with some fellow yelpers, make a few friends while downing a can or three, and just be ready...rough and ready...for the fun night it's gonna be! *wink

Since joining Yelp and its merry legions of various personalities, I have discovered a few wonderful things.......

1. There are some Yelpers who share my intermittent love and fascination with the delicious world of porn. Don't worry, your identities will not be divulged under torture nor drunkenness.

2. Yelp is inundated with VERY good writers who don't even know they are good writers. Shame on you Denise L for deleting your reviews! And Christine L, tell that inner voice of yours to go fuck itself when it tells you that your reviews are awkward or weird. You are one great scribe!

3. JacQutie is really a cutie. Smart too. I already knew this though. ;)

4. Katherine N and her coolness and sensual nature is something that every Yelpette should experience......and if you haven't, then you don't know what you are missing.

5. Liz O and Augusta S are really sisters despite their claims to the contrary.

......and finally, places like Alex's Bar are what dive bars should look like.

When I joined Yelp, I read many bar reviews and other places described as dives. Hell, to me a bar was a bar. You enter, drink, shoot the shit with your homies, and flirt with members of the opposite sex with hopes of gettin' some.

My experience at Alex's last night sharpened my definition of the phrase "dive bar."

One walks in and discovers that the Halloween motifs haven't been taken down. The barflies here seem to love that. Then you encounter the chicks at the bar who are drinking their Pabst Blue Ribbon with straws.

Then comes the concrete floors and the one lone table in middle of the joint that acts as a big coaster for everyone's drink. The seats and sofas on the wall and the quirkly clad clientele that use them further Alex's argument as a dive bar.

The last thing that cements Alex's divey status is the question that is rolling around my head as a write this and I am sure that the Yelper who attended last night's UYE can relate:

Carlos K: Look to your right. Is that a chick or a dude???

Other Yelpers throughout the night: I don't know. I have asked myself that same thing.

Carlos K: She's got long hair, but that doesn't mean anything.

Other Yelper: She has a bulge in her crotch. Its a dude.

Carlos K: That could be the Sherwood Forest down there. Some chicks don't shave.

Other Yelper: Hahahahahahahaha........you're right. I see a bra strap. A chick.

Carlos K: It looks like a safety pin bro. Keep looking.

We look and surmise as the night drags on and the question goes unanswered.

Many thanks to Augusta!
