My husband and I tried Angelo's for the first time a couple of weeks ago and we loved it! My husband had the tortellini and I had the carbonara. Â Both were excellent! Â The garlic rolls were hot and fresh from the oven. Â We also had the fried ravioli as an appetizer and it was great including the marinara sauce. Â Agree w previous post in that the salad has too many red onions. Â Based on our great meal we decided to go back a second time and were greatly disappointed. Â For appetizers we ordered the fried calamari and fried provolone. Â We were greatly surprised when they were served quickly within 3-4 min after ordering, which led us to believe they were either old or store bought from the frozen section. In either case, they both tasted horrible. Â My husband ordered the lasagna and I had the tortellini. Â The lasagna tasted like it was made w pizza sauce, not marinara sauce. Â My husband took two bites and could not eat anymore. Â My tortellini also tasted store bought and wasn't nearly as good as when my husband had it on our first visit. Â The garlic rolls however were still good. Â Upon leaving we asked the hostess if the regular chef prepared the food the second night, to which she replied yes both Carlos and Henses are always here. Â We truly believed our appetizers and the tortellini dish were not made from scratch as we were told the first night we were there. Â And my husbands lasagna would not even meet the standards of fazoli or Olive Garden! Truly we were disappointed, especially since we were thinking of bringing guests to this restaurant in the future. Â Since our first time at the restaurant was very good, we will give this restaurant another try, but if it is not good, then we will not be returning.
Review Source:I had a very mixed experience while at Angelo's. Â The staff was phenomenal. Â They were so kind and accommodating to my son's food allergy, and just friendly and attentive overall. Â If I could rate them solely on service, they would get a 5, but it's hard to overlook the food and decor. Â Angelo's poses as a "fine dining" dining restaurant, but they simply are not. Â The food is extremely bland and almost every dish is swimming in cheese. Â The decor is lacking. The salad is overloaded with onions and they use Good Seasons salad dressing...not my idea of fine dining.
Honestly, I feel bad giving them a low rating because they are so nice, but the food is pretty awful.
Ate here a few weeks ago... We waited about 20 minutes before asking someone to find us a server. The server we had was nice, but he was obviously overloaded with tables.
The prices seemed a bit much considering the salad was served in a plastic bowl with plastic salad tongs. The rolls were either soggy (the ones on the bottom) or dry (the ones on the top). By the time my Alfredo made it to the table the sauce had separated and my food was swimming in a puddle of oil. My husband's chicken Marsala was possibly the worst Marsala I've ever tasted. I'm not sure how he managed to eat it.
I will not be returning to this restaurant again. I like to eat local, but I'd prefer Olive Garden's frozen, prepared meals than this mess of a dinner.
Service was ok. Wasn't as dressy as my friend had told me. A bit noisy. Food was good. They could have brought more garlic rolls. I started off with a couple of appetizers: the stuffed mushrooms which were excellent, and the fried ravioli which was a little dry but tasty. ho-hum marinara sauce. the salad was typically swimming in olive oil & vinegar - hey restaurants, can you please CUT THAT OUT - but was mixed up pretty well with red onions and a black olive or two.
I ordered the Chicken Marsala and the Chicken Parmesan. In both cases the chicken was a little tougher than I'd like but it was about as good as you'd expect from a Denny's. The appearance of mushrooms was pleasant but they should have been cooked longer. By the time I reached the pasta it was cold so I just took it home to reheat for lunch.
They were out of Amstel Light so I settled for a couple of Newcastle's.
Holy crap. $60 before the tip? Thank god I brought a $30 Groupon.
If this is the best Evansville has to offer, it's a pretty sorry town.
Just ate dinner there for the first time. Â I have had the ala carte lunch before. Â I thought the food and service was very good. Â I do think the prices are just a tad on the high side, but the portion size is huge. Â We had calamari for an appetizer and it was delicious. Â The Chicken Cordon Blue was cooked very well. Â Really like the atmosphere and will return again soon.
Review Source:I first went to Angelo's in a large group of about 15-20 girls for a birthday party. Â The staff was incredible. Â Our waiter was outstanding. Â He was friendly and just on top of his game. Â
The food is amazing. It's authentic Italian in southern Indiana. I've had the Chicken Marsala, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and the Lasagna. Â Everything was AWESOME. Â The marsala sauce...perfect. Â The cordon bleu sauce...perfect. I'm not even a lasagna fan and that was amazing. Â
Free, HUGE tossed salad with an oil based dressing and rolls with a spicy, pesto butter. Â I LOVE free treats before my meal. Â
I went to college in Evansville and I would always take visitors here for a nice dinner. Â Authentic Italian food at reasonable prices. Angelo's is a must try and in my opinion, a must LOVE.
We went for lunch and I was impressed. I had a pasta combo that included two kinds of pasta, a salad, and their wonderful garlic rolls for about $6 total. What a great deal!
The service was just standing in line to get our food so no comment there other than the workers were friendly. The atmosphere was standard as well. I can't comment on dinner, but it's a great place for lunch in Evansville.
The food here is okay-standard italian fare. Â However, every time I have eaten here they have been out of at least one item on the menu (usually the fried ravioli). Â The service is very slow, even when there are only a few tables in the restaurant. Â The servers tend to bring out drinks (bottles of beer) to half the table at a time, leaving the other half waiting for 10 minutes. Â I probably won't be going here again unless someone else in the group really wants to.
Review Source:I have frequented Angelo's for 13 years now and can honestly say that I will never tire of this wonderful little place. Â
From the very friendly service, to the warm colors of the restaurant, Angelo's is definitely my favorite place to eat Italian food. Â Everything I have ever eaten there is delicious! Â The lasagna and Penne Carbonara are my two favorites. Â They offer a nice menu, with plenty to choose from for meat lovers as well as vegetarians. Â Their salad is always fresh and tasty and their garlic rolls are to die for! Â Far better than breadsticks you might get at any other Italian chains. Â Â They also have a nice wine selection and wonderful desserts such as fresh cannolis and home made Tiramisu. Â Very nice atmosphere as well.
Oh and lunch is great too and very affordable. Â At lunch, they have more of a cafeteria style thing going on, where you order from a selection of food they have at the counter, from pizza to pasta, complete with salad and rolls. Â You can buy a whole lunch with a soda for around $6.00 and everything on their lunch menu is incredible too. Â
Buy local. Â You won't be sorry!
Absolutely wonderful experience. The food was positively outstanding. Tonight we started with the Crab Cakes which were made fresh and served over a small bed of angel hair, everything covered in a creamy pesto. Â I ordered the Lasagna after deciding I wanted something traditional. It came out baked in a dish, absolutely delicious in a slightly sweet marinara sauce covered in mozzarella. Â Mmm. He ordered Tortillini Alla Pesto. A cheese tortillini with peas and sundried tomatoes served in a creamy pesto sauce (which seemed to be a combination of pesto and alfredo, making it very creamy and delicious).
The food was outstanding, and we even got free dessert: red velvet cake. Mmm. My only real complaint is the crying baby at a near by table--this seems to be much more of an adult restaurant, lots of ambiance. Â Also, having to wait a good while be for being waited on. After that though, it was a very pleasant meal.
