Anthony's is fantastic! We were putting together a charcuterie and cheese board for dinner with friends, and lo and behold Anthony himself was behind the counter helping us through his wonderfully curated options. He warmly talked us through tasting several options, listened to our particular needs carefully and helped us narrow down our selection (which is difficult, considering all the goodies they have.) My favorite was the Duck Proscuttio, my wife's the jamon serrano. Both essentially meat candy. We selected a couple cheeses as well, and Anthony artfully arranged it with additional strawberries, quince paste, nuts, and more. What a deal and what a delightful, personal experience. We're hooked.
Review Source:We love Anthony's. It is a perfect place to relax with friends. The food is delicious with high quality ingredients. They offer a great wine selection, and the ambiance is charming and upscale. The tapas are perfectly portioned so that you can try a variety of foods from the menu. It is our favorite restaurant in this area.
Review Source:Didn't make it to the brewery in Buellton nor in Santa Barbara, but what was cool is that Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. came to us at Anthony Fine Foods in La Canada in the foothills of the San Gabriels about 15 miles notheast of downtown Los Angeles. Â Anthony's is a general store of all things comestible where you can buy a good selection of Californian & European wines as well as gourmet canned and bottled items with a cold case of wonderful cheeses and charcuterie. Â
Jaime & his wife of FMBC were gracious in coming to let us sample 4 of their brews, and Anthony's supplied the food to pair with the beers so that there was an elegant afternoon of "association de bieres et mets". Â I don't think that I would be as privileged to have this type of tastiing any old day of the week at the brewery in Buellton. Â
1) Â First in the line up of beers was Paradise Road Pilsner ABV 5.5% Â IBU 23. Â Paradise Road Pilsner was served quite chilled in a champagne flute. Â The bouquet was delicate with a touch of hoppy freshness. Â The flavour profile was lightly sweet, with hints of Mead implying honey and to me a touch of chamomile. Â The finish left a clean sensation. Â Great sipping beer on a hot summer day.
The Paradise Road was paired with Boucheron, a creamy, soft, rich chevre (goat) topped with a Kumquat Habanero Preserve & Lemon Basil. Â Often, the beer becomes a mere palate cleanser, but the Paradise intensified the goaty flavour of the chevre before any palate cleansing was done.
2) Â Danish Red Lager ABV 6% Â IBU 26. Â The aroma was toasty, burnt sugar. Â The flavours were light, sweet caramel, touch of dark chocolate, with a bread-like yeasty maltiness, & starchy fullness. Â Finish was a feeling of having just eaten a pumpernickel bread sweetened with light honey. Â
Danish Red Lager and Euphoria Sheep Milk Gouda drizzled with local honey was a good pairing. Â The almost Parmigiana Reggiana mellow, aged, dairy rich flavour and the mellow dark, yeasty bready flavours complemented each other.
3) Â Davy Brown Ale ABV 8% Â IBU 82. Â Hints of sweet brown sugar, slight coffee & chocolate that was slightly funky and had green, light, bitter herbal notes from the hops. Â Finish has a mellow, rounded mouth feel.
Macaroni & Cheese (Thank god, not Kraft American!) made from Fiscalini Aged Cheddar and Brown Ale Bechamel. Â The chef at Anthony's incorporated the Brown Ale into the Macaroni & Cheese so the pairing resonated with the same Ale in the drink as well as the dish. Â
4) Â Hurricane Deck Double IPA Â ABV 8% Â IBU Â 82. Â Of all the beers presented this was the BIG monster. Â India Pale Ales tend to be higher in alcohol and especially in hops. Â The reason being when the British invaded & controlled India, the beers brought over from England would inevitably spoil having to pass through the equatorial regions twice. Â Hops and alcohol are preservatives so someone thought of creating a special ale that could survive the long, hot journey.
Hurricane is a complex, chameleon-like brew that is loaded with hops.  The initial bouquet is herbal green, Retsina-like with pine tar, green bell pepper, grapefruit zest, hint of damask rose, and tangerine.  Counter-intuitively it is refreshing with the above ingredients as well as meaty and heavy with good yeast.  Later as this IPA opens up, it mellows slightly opening up to a more mead-like honey taste and scents of rosemary & basil.  I know some wines "evolve" through time, and Hurricane is equally up to the task. Hurricane is a  beautiful IPA in that the complex layers of flavours complement each other, unlike many lesser IPAs that conflict and fight each other to create a truly undrinkable concoction.
Smoked pork belly, melted Sharffe Maxx Cheese which was mellow and acted like a Gruyere, Caramelized onion rings, very mild tasting Rye toast was a good offset to this big monster brew. Â I would think that Jamon Serrano de Bellota, a good Prosciutto di Parma or San Daniele, or Schwarz wald Schinken would also work well with this .
I'm glad to see that microbreweries are flourishing throughout the U.S. Â More and more people are becoming more sophisticated in the way they consume so that little by little quality is valued more than quantity. Â Figueroa brewing Company is contributing to the betterment of the American palate. Â Here, Here.
PS Â I had the Carmelas's signature ice cream of salted caramel which melted ever so richly and smoothly in reaction to my body heat. Â Jaime was kind to offer us the last of the opened bottles of beer so I paired the salted caramel ice cream with the Davy Brown Ale, and it was amazing.
This cute location is great for a date night, girls night, or even the family (more so during the day). Food and drinks are so delicious and we keep coming back for more! Some may find it a little pricey but you get what you pay for with the excellent quality. The wine bottle chandelier was custom made and so awesome, the paintings in this place are great too ( the ones permanently and for sale).
The staff and owners are all so sweet and welcoming, and Anthony's mom is the best! Defiantly a gem you should check out!
Anthony is wonderful as he really takes the time to let you try the cheeses before buying, and he is great at explaining about them as well as well as which wines pairs well with them. Â My friends at the private dinner I hosted really enjoyed the selections Anthony recommended to me.
In addition, they have a wonderful collection of wines for purchase (and not your common but mid-end lines of wine), and I was able to pick up a couple of bottles of an Armenian wine that was highly rated by Bloomberg (a Zorah Karasi Areni Noir 2011), something that I have not been able to find thus far in LA.
The food here is also good, especially a soft shell crab I had here earlier in Spring. Â I have not tried the new items on their current menu and am looking forward to doing that in the next month. Â
I will definitely report back!
A wonderful local spot. Â The food is fantastic and the service is friendly and attentive. Â Every dish we ordered was great. Â I loved the soft shell crabs, the colossal Spanish shrimp, the Asparagus baked with Parmigiano Reggiano and croissant crumbs. Â And Carmela's ice cream to top it off. Â We will definitely be going back. Â Mainly because I want to try the dark chocolate and espresso bread pudding.
Review Source:We are very picky where we chose to eat and Anthony's has become a nice local place for us to have lunch or a light dinner. Â We have now eaten there about 6 times and each time we found the food to be excellent and well priced. Â The soft shelled crab was delicious, the charcuterie was ample and the service, especially by the owner was perfect. Â They also have a large assortment of cheeses both for the table but also for take-out. Â I definitely recommend this family owned restaurant.
Review Source:I wanted to like Anthony's so much. Â I usually love mom and pop establishments and want to patronize them as much as possible. Â But my lunch was so underwhelming. And the wine selection left a lot to be desired because they were out of so much. Â Extra star, though, because our server (the owner?) was very sweet and recommended things.
My friend had a salad which she was fine with. Â I had the porchetta. Â I just felt like for $12 it should have been a bit more. Â It was just the meat and a couple of peppers on a plate. Â I understand it's tapas but dress it up a bit....they were not busy at all, so it wouldn't have been too hard.
Again, I like that it's a local establishment, so I hope that they spruce up their menu a bit.
We have been to Anthony's now 4 times on Friday Night and we are ready to write a review. Â Consistently charming, great service excellent well priced wine selection and the tapas are fantastic. Â The Soft shelled crab, the spanish prawns and the sausage plate are all 5 Stars. Â
Wine.....try the Tolo, Whalebone and the McPrice Meyers beautiful earth. Â All 3 rare selections from Paso Robles and will knock your sox off. Â
We make a reservation so that we are guaranteed a table. Â
This place is an incredible treat!
Best thing between Glenoaks and Gould for us here Foothillians.
My husband and I moved to Tujunga about three years ago after living in Hollywood for our entire lives. Â We love our home, but seriously disgust the food options available in the area (Wed. night food truck night on Sunland is the best food option Tujunga has, sad).
Finally, a place that we can go to for reasonably priced wine, unique cheeses and meats that can't be found in the specialty dept. at WF & TJ. We were assisted and served by Anthony on a Sunday afternoon. Had the three choice meat and cheese plate. Tapas wise we had the arugula salad, sunchoke risotto, quail, and mushrooms. All were prepared with finesse and most importantly tasted fantastic. The truffle goat cheese was one of the best cheeses I ever tasted.
Service can be a bit slow, but for good reason mind you. They are also a market so you can buy sliced meats and cheeses which was what the other couples who arrived after us did. Anthony treated everyone that came in with such care and attention to detail. We were given it as well when he got to us. Maybe one person to run the floor and one to run the counter, or maybe there is that type of set up just not the day/time we went? Either way, it won't stop my husband and I from going back for dinner real soon. For our next time, we will request which tapas we want to come out first, second, and third as we're particular like that.
Enjoyed everything so much we bought a few meat and cheeses to take home after our meal.
Wonderful little gem in the heart of La Cañada!  I particularly enjoyed the charcuterie salad and soft shell crabs, but the standout for me was far and away the pan seared porchetta.  Drizzled in garlic syrup, rosemary salt, and shisito peppers, the porchetta was unbelievably aromatic and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.  We also had the Jamón Serrano sandwich which was tasty but a little on the smaller side.  The server was nice enough to give us sample slices of the jamón prior to serving us our sandwich, though, which was very kind of him.  At the time they were serving a pumpkin risotto which was a had a  more muted flavor profile than I would have liked (especially in comparison to the the other dishes) but the leche flan with spiced gala apples made up for it.  The price point is a tad higher than I would have liked but I will definitely be returning.
Review Source:My lovely and spry 84 year old aunt wanted to come her for the Duck Salad (uh, that's a " no" for me) so we came to have lunch on a quiet Saturday afternoon. We were one of only two couples in the place so it surprised me when it took so long to get a menu. I ordered a sandwich and auntie, her duck salad. I had a ginger beer, she had water. The waitress was PAINFULLY slow in bringing us drinks, and our food. When she set my plate in front of me, I burst out laughing. It was the tiniest sandwich I had ever seen, cut into two pieces with three mini slices of apple laid next to it, covered in some (?) drizzle. Dry as heck, so I asked for mustard. My aunt asked for a piece of bread for her salad. ( Mind you, they do not give you any bread or glasses of water...you must ASK for it) Again, the waitress took so long, I started to take it personally. My aunt had to flag her down, and when asked where the bread was, she said "Oh it's being warmed in the oven." What are they doing, baking a loaf from scratch? Just bring a dang slice of bread!! My aunt noticed that her salad was missing the figs that were usually in it, as she had this salad before. She was disappointed- " The figs make the whole salad!" So when the waitress came by, we asked why there were no figs, and do you know what she said? " Oh "he" didn't see any figs he liked, so there isn't any in the salad." HE?! He who? The chef? The busboy? My aunt said the salad had dry figs, not fresh ones in it. Meanwhile behind us on the wall that is chock full of very expensive gourmet goodies for you to buy, is a container with dried figs. So basically this waitress is talking out her you- know- what...When I checked in on yelp, it said I was entitled to a free glass of the "Wine of the Day" so I mentioned this to the waitress. She acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. Another gentleman working there explained to her. So she asks me, " White or red?" I said red and off she went. I'm thinking, since this is a wine bar...they are going to dazzle me with one of their speciality wines, in hopes I might purchase a bottle. I tasted it and it was second rate. So as she flits by, I ask her " What is this?" She says ( ready?) " It's a red wine. No DUH! I said " Yes, but what? Merlot, what vineyard, what?" She shrugged and said " it's a red table blend." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So basically, here's a glass of cheap wine, shut yer yap. At that point, I was done. It took another 20 minutes to get the check, and another 20 minutes for her to take the payment. When she left the receipt, she said "Here you go." Not " Thanks" or " Have a nice day" It will  be a cold day in never before I come back here again. It has such a cute vibe, great music playing, nice looking wine selection and gourmet treats but....
Update: so I see that the owner has responded to my review. I understand as an owner, it must be uncomfortable to read less than rave reviews about a business, that no doubt, he works hard to make a success. However, rather than simply apologize for poor service... He picks my review apart with a bit of high- handed elitism...inferring that I don't know good wine, that my sandwich is not a " hoagie" ( sorry but that was very insulting to me... Of course, I wasn't expecting a sub sandwich for goodness sakes) I realize I was in a tapas/ wine bar and portions are meant to be shared. And lastly, I have to laugh when one server cannot handle three tables. You can criticize my review all you want, but I am a foodie, I eat out quite a bit, I know what is good... And the customer is always right. Had you simply said "Come back and try us again.." I would have perhaps given it another try. But to belittle me, well....I'll spend my money elsewhere.
This is a wonderful and unique dining experience. Â The dishes are not entrees, but plates of different and delicious foods prepared with a flair of Spanish, Italian, and French accent. Â The combinations of cheese, meats and soups are absolutely delicious. Â The ambience is comfortable, warm, yet intimately friendly. Â The selection of wines is outstanding, and each are designed to compliment the different dishes as well. Â We were to full from dinner to try their desserts, but we will certainly be back to try the other dishes and dessert. Â As an aside, we met the owners, Mike and Anthony. Â These are two extremely wonderful and knowledgeable men, who are passionate about their restaurant. Â That said, treat yourself to a dining experience that will make for a wonderful evening with friends or someone special in your life.
Review Source:Great wine selection and that is where the good about this place stops. Â The food is average at best and expensive for what you get. Â I totally get the guys comment about a $10 grilled cheese sandwich. Â If your going to go to this place, go only for the wine and be prepared to pay a bit extra. Â You will not see me there again but I get why people seem to like it
Review Source:Paid over 10 dollars to get a sandwich here during lunch. The sandwich consisted of just cheese. Basically grilled cheese sandwich for 10 dollars, that comes with spaghetti sauce. The bread was great, but was it worth 10 dollars? Not really. I was the only costumer there and ordered my food to go. They should probably start on some lunch specials. There are plenty of other lunch options around and they all get packed. I dont like to write bad reviews, especially to small businesses but someone has to do it. 10 dollars for a small sandwich, during lunch wont cut it.
Review Source:Had their duck salad. Â the greens and glazed/carmelized roasted garlic and bacon were fantastic. Â The duck itself was.. meh... Pretty tasteless. Â Would have given it 3.5 stars but unable on this ap. Â the service was fine. Â The ambience nice, especially if you're a foodie... Gourmet items for sale and looked like a broad selection of wines. Â The way they served the duck ... Very thinly sliced ... makes me want to come back and try their sliced meats and cheese plate(s). Â Perhaps on my next trip to SoCal.
Review Source:Maybe the chef was not in the kitchen the night we dined there. After reading rave reviews on yelp, we were excited to try this place. Â We ordered some tapas and pasta. Â The food is mediocre at best. Â I'm not a good cook, but I could have made better pasta. Â Very disappointing.
One star for food, but I'm giving it two stars for the service and ambiance.
Dear Anthony - we love the store, the food, your love of cheeses, and your great palate for the wines. Service? Getting better. Food and cheese and wine selections?Delicious and unique and a great replacement for Palate in Glendale that recently closed. Fancy affair? Hey, this is your local bistro, and we love the counter. All you fuss-budgets out there can come for lunch and be casual. Congratulations on your one year and best of luck for many more. Love, your impromptu buss boy and his truffle salami addict wife.
Review Source:Great wine store that has a strong selection of cheeses and meats. It was difficult to find Spanish hams, but they carry it here at a decent cost. Everyone sitting around looked like they were enjoying their meals. This is the kind of local place that I can see myself opening when I'm older and wiser and no longer need to save the citizens of Gotham.
Review Source:Love the food but wish they'd change it up more often, offer more vegetables as well as some healthier choices. Â Many dishes heavy handed with butter and cheese. Â The salad is generous portion but boring and blah. Â Pasta offerings also blah. Â Truffle salami wonderful as is the Red Leceister cheese. Soft shell crab great, quail wonderful. Â Porcetta with garlic syrup and shishito peppers yummy. Â
Wonderful addition to neighborhood. Â Love to browse the goods, great for gifts. Â Quite a few regulars. Â Not a lot of tables.
Absolutely fantastic! Â Super friendly staff, the food was outstanding!! Â I had bacon wrapped figs (Wow!!), then lardo on ciabatta bread, sauteed mushrooms and the best sauteed shrimp I've ever had. Â Got to chat with the FABULOUS Anthony who is charming, brilliant, and so extremely knowledgeable about all his foods and wines. Â I am so impressed! Â
Do NOT go in expecting to be served thousands of calories in greasy, fried crap. Â This is REAL food. Â These are REAL portions. Â I will be back. Â My new favorite place!!! Â Do yourself a favor and order the bread pudding! Â :)
We wound up here back in April after going to the inglorious Night Market event in Pasadena and leaving totally unsatisfied. Â This update is mostly in regards to the small plates that we shared since they began to offer them a little over 7 months ago...
Seared Foie Gras with candied garlic, stewed dates and seared brioche ($24) -- knowing that this is going to scarce before long prompted us to try it. Â The liver is a little gamey for some but I thought the sweetness of the candied garlic and dates offset this pretty well; Â I Â would have liked to see the brioche points more evenly toasted rather than simply displayed with grill marks...

Crispy Soft Shell Crab with curry, chili, and lemon sauces ($9) -- the crab was flavorful and supplied the slightly salty crunch that I was looking for but it was still not the best that I have ever had. Â One of the sauces was aioli like, interesting but not something that I'm used to putting on my soft shell crab like at a sushi bar where a little lemon is all I usually use. Â Not sure what the "S" signifies but I assumed it was chef's artistic touch...
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=qLTy4tmhm8zzvs_vHiKczA#8F5sW1umADIRZDfjMtb9HQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Raclette cheese baked over fingerling potatoes, with cracked black pepper and pickles ($10) -- Raclette is a very pungent Swiss cows milk cheese usually served hot and melted in a ramekin or a crock, served typically with wine and charcuterie. Â I was admittedly attracted to the idea of cheesy potatoes which is mainly why I ordered it. Â Served with cute miniature pickles for a contrasting sour crunch. Â First time I've actually had Raclette and though I will never crave it, I might order it again...
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=qLTy4tmhm8zzvs_vHiKczA#AD94dz-8uBEhGgD8RvloIw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
These three tapas dishes only represents a small cross-section of what AFFW offers and the menu changes from time to time as well, but the plates are a bit gourmand for the average consumer;  they're definitely on the chic side but definitely worth a try to say that you've tried it (e.g. foie gras...)  I still personally think that  their strong suit is the charcuterie and cheeses, as well as the wine.  I've learned so much already just by sampling the different meats and cheeses offered at  AFFW...
Naturally we can never leave here without taking some delectables to go: Â
Mangalista Prosciutto from Olli Salumeria...
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=qLTy4tmhm8zzvs_vHiKczA#hiZtxNdNxnYE3_TDTYHZkQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Ossau-Iraty sheep's milk cheese from France...
Ewephoria sheep's milk cheese from Holland...
I can see us coming for the deli meats and cheeses 3 to 1 over the tapas although this does not preclude a dinner from time to time. Â Hip, Hip, Hooray for offering Carmela's ice cream on the menu! Â =D ...
If I could afford it, I would eat and drink here every weekend.
My friend and I dropped by for the first time on a sorta impromptu lunch last month and were weren't dressed like typical upper crust La Canada elite (which we're not), but we still got great service and attention from the staff and owner, which is more than I can say about other establishments in the area.
People who are used to 4,000 calorie lunches with grease and tasteless filler will probably not be fans of this place because it's tapas style and the taste is quality, not quantity. The wine list was impressive, but they also had good beer if you're in that mood.
Strange that I used to sit in the exact same location and study when it was Higley's Coffee shop 10 years ago.
The one and only time that I have come here was for my very good friend's baby shower. She and her family rented out the place for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. It was just perfect. We all did a lil shopping. We had some wine, cheese, fruit, and some gift opening. It was a perfect lil spot to have such a happy celebration. The cheese, meat and wine selections were amazing. I would love to come here for lunch. I have heard that their specials are amazing as well. I loved that the parking was easy and free. Even better, the dining area is kept towards the back of the building, a lil ways from the door. The staff are super friendly. They are accommodating, more than I thought that they would be.
Even better, this place is affordable!!!
Great cheese selections from all over the world.
My sister, who loves wine, was visiting from Hawaii for the last few days and I had never been to Anthony's Fine Food & Wine, so we were really thrilled to check it out on a nice sunny Friday  afternoon.
We met Anthony who introduced us to a wonderful assortment of cheese and delicious wine. Â Anthony prepared a nice platter of three different cheeses. Â One was a combination of goat & cow cheese which was O.K., but not my cup of tea. Â There was also a smoky cheddar from England which I loved and another Italian hard cheese that was also very good. Â It was beautifully displayed along with some quince jam, strawberries and yummy big corn nuts. Â My sister was discussing truffle oil with Anthony and he brought out a sample of that on a couple slices of french bread. Â That was really cool of him. Â As far as the vino goes we were in the mood for a nice refreshing white wine on the warm Spring day. Â I enjoyed the SCV (Sonoma Coast Vineyard) Gold River Hills 2009 Chardonnay and I believe my sister enjoyed a nice Sauvignon Blanc.
The decor of this establishment is beautiful. Â There is a beautiful chandelier made with wine bottles as you walk in from the Foothill Blvd. door. Â I took a couple photos which you can see along with a photo of the cheese board. Â We loved the bar area made of quartz which has interior lighting which was gorgeous. Â A lot of reds, taupe, yellow and browns which creates a nice warm environment. Â It is nice to sample wine in a place that isn't as dark as some cellars. Â A lot light comes in through the windows on the north side.
I would highly recommend coming to Anthony's Fine Food & Wine, but you need to make reservations if you want to come for dinner. Â It looks pretty popular and they were booked up last Friday. Â Kristen S. also mentioned that is was really busy when she and her husband went on a Friday night.
Free corkage. Â Imagine that at a wine and food place. Â They will provide tastings/samples of the cheese, meat and wine before you order, it if you request.
Met Mike and Anthony, owners, today. Â Great guys. Â Have the souls of good providers of fine food and wine. Â Knowledgeable and unpretentious in their discussions of the dishes and wines. Â
We used the Yelp deal and it was $30 of value for $20. Â Good introductory offer. Â
It is so nice to have someone providing personalized service and specialty dishes in this world of bland chain menus and do-alike places calling themselves restaurants. Â
They have a nice menu of tapas - but not tapas as you have seen before. Â
Sunday afternoon meal. We had the Bresciola and arugula tapa - very nice.  We had a Rioja along with Caprese salad <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=cl0VRgXNkwSxa33bUgjkqA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a> and Spaniard panini. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=ZflwHHmkoZaSV3sQsxi9og">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>  Then we finished with a Hungarian sweet wine that was full of apricot flavor. Â
Very nicely decorated interior. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cllzXWxRBMwZlhQdJxmdPA?select=t2Gj9_8JVEzj5r4MJQ595A">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>  Outside seating also.
Very Mediterranean/European style cuisine. Â Fresh big flavors using simple ingredients. Â Check out the website and the menu, very different.
Just pass all those other places on Foothill and go here. Â You won't regret it.
Don't go to Old Town Pasadena before you have had a chance to try Anthony's. Â Easy parking and fine dining with no snootiness or hustle.
We came here for lunch - and where the only people here. Usually, I don't like to spend $10 on a sandwich, but when I do, I take notes and hope to replicate it at home. Fat chance, there is no way I am every going to be able to make such a delicious sandwich! Everything was fresh with high quality ingredients. The place is comfortable and attractive.
This is what we ordered. My husband and I shared two sandwiches:
Il Porchetta: Italian style roasted pork served warm with arugula, fresh tomato, carmelized onions, and cracked black pepper on a soft roll. 11
El Jamón: 24 month aged reserve Serrano ham, house made porcini butter, marinated white onions, and sliced tart apple on baguette.   10
Someday we will come for the tapas!
My husband and I have been meaning to come here but it never quite worked out. Finally, we decided to just walk in one evening and give it a go. If they didn't have any room for us, there was always the pizza place down the block.
It was pretty busy, but Anthony was able to seat us at a tall table for two within a few minutes. BUT, we will make sure to make reservations next time.
The long and short of it was that the food was amazing! The wine delish! We were able to order half glasses of wine, so it was nice to try different varietals with our meal without walking out there drunk.
The best dish of the night had to be the bread pudding. It was on their specials menu, and it was just amazing!
The service was good, it wasn't too loud but you can tell they have regulars which are the people you might have to fight for a table with.
We also purchased the Yelp deal, so saving $10 made it nice too. :-)
Visited last night for a birthday dinner. Â The food was excellent, and I can say that definitively since we ordered EVERY SINGLE tapas item off the menu. Â Yes, everything we COULD order we did, and we consumed every bite of each plate.
The cheese plate was awesome, with several different types of cheese and plenty of it. Â The foie gras, porchetta and marrow bones were our favorites, and the lardo has a special place in my heart (mostly because of the name, but it was quite tasty as well.) Â We also ordered every desert option and we weren't disappointed.
A few of our party had the wine flight (4 different wines, a quarter glass each), and we tried a few of the beers and a cider. Â All told, we got out for about $60 per person, which was quite the bargain with the amount of food and drink we had. Â Anthony came out and talked with us a bit at the end of the evening, and he is as nice as his servers. Â We'll definitely be back.
Excellent food, exceptional service, and a comfortable atmosphere! Â Anthony's is a small, friendly tapas wine bar / wine store and more. Â It's amazing no one else has thought of opening this type of place in this area! Â
Not only is there an amazing and unique selection of meats and cheeses, the tapas are fun and delicious! Â Try the Tuna "Prosciutto"!!! Â It is rather delicate and you will still be hungry after, but it is a wonderful, mouthwatering taste of tuna. Â The lardo is also insanely good, according to the esposo. Â Beyond the tapas, there are amazing soups prepared ( a wonderful creme of zucchini soup) and daily entrees based upon what is in season. Â
While you do get to experience the exceptional service at a table, sitting at the bar provides you with the opportunity to enjoy a few moments with Anthony, his staff and perhaps a few family members. Â (You also can view all of the plates coming out of the kitchen.) Everyone is exceptionally service-oriented, engaging, friendly and will always share their knowledge with you. Â The staff are not only great at recommending plates, cheeses and meats, but also are great at pairing these with wines. Â And the best part is that the staff and the atmosphere make one feel very comfortable; Â one never feels like this is a rigid or for lack of a better description, snotty place. Â
For those lucky enough to live around the corner, this is a wonderful neighborhood spot!  Don't count on it staying small though.  If they keep this up, it is very likely to become a destination.  The folks that run and work here  enjoy good food and wine and like to share it with others.  It shows.
When the bf and I walked in, we didn't know what to expect because the place was empty (although to be fair it was 5pm). Anthony's open not too long again, and the $20 for $30 cert and the free glass of wine with entree was too tempting to pass up. We were seated by our friendly waitress Mandy. Since it was too early for dinner, we just only the five selection cheese and meat plate. When we told Mandy which wines we wanted (one white and one red), she recommended double creme, gouda and gruyere (my fav!) along with the truffle salami and the duck pate. The plate came with tangerine, almonds and a quince paste (delicious with the cheese). We took time to enjoy our food, which as a lot more than either of us anticipated, and at around 6pm on a Thursday, there were three or four more groups that came it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese and meats (tip: the five selection plate should be shared with three or four others. I ended up taking more than half of it home. No complaints), but what I really enjoyed was the ambience. The restaurant was small and intimate. It was relaxed and not crowded which made it possible to savor our food and enjoy each other's company. Though Anthony was not there, our waitress was very helpful and attentive. Although she had a little problem with the yelp deals at first, she tried her best to work it out.
I would definitely come back to Anthony's. A part of me wishes that the shop will do very well because it deserves to; yet, the greedy part of me wishes that it would remain a little hidden, so that it would not be hard to get a seat in the future.
Cheers!
There is no question that when I am in La Cañada, I will likely be found at Anthony's.  His food/cheese/wine is of the highest quality, uniquely selected, expertly prepared and always delicious.  And Anthony himself along with his fantastic team bring everything together in such a personalized and professional yet friendly manner that I can't help smiling and enjoying this rare gem of a store/restaurant.  My only complaint is that he is not on the West Side!
Everything I've had from the kitchen has been superb. Â The shrimp I had was among the most incredibly plump and fresh I've ever had, which is saying a lot. Â The salads are a wonderfully light way to balance out the heaviness of the meats and cheeses and the greens used are of very high quality. Â I must admit I'm not a huge meat/cheese consumer, but his selections are so good and unique that I'll always splurge here.
His wine selection is wide if not mainly european, and I've yet to have one I didn't like. Â I am confident I can go here, pick one up and receive quality commensurate with price, not to mention he would happily help make my selection based on my preferences.
Lastly his selection of dry/canned goods is very special and I invariably buy something from those shelves whenever I go. Â I recommend the Bacon-Chocolate Chip Pancakes available here; life changingly good. Â Also the olives stuffed with cheese and peppers are fantastic. Â I don't think you can go wrong on these shelves.
All in all, I wish there were more Anthony's, and will selfishly admit to hoping he expands into the West Side some day!
Great little gem of a place serving reasonably-priced good eats. Anthony's has unique and authentic/imported goodies to quell our "snack attack" of an appetite. Â I also brought home some really great Manchego, Raclette, and an awesome Chorizo.
Anthony's would be a greater dining experience when they get their license to serve wine approved and Anthony figures out how to streamline the wait service. Â The demand will need to be met with the supply of wait staff for this place to flourish...
My friend and I were heading to Descanso Gardens and decided to grab a bite to eat at Anthony's beforehand. There are a surprising number of chain fast-food type places in La Canada so I can say without a hint of hyperbole: Anthony's is the best thing to happen in this area in who-knows-how-long. It is a refreshing change of pace in more ways than one. I cannot flatter this place enough.
Lunch - well, the menu changes daily with availability and inspiration, so I can't guarantee that you will have the same options - but make it a point to go! When I went I got the "Spaniard" sandwich which featured chorizo, a delicious cheese (that I can't remember the name of because this was a couple of days ago and I didn't write it down) and bell pepper on panini. It was crusty without being tough, and soft without being squishy. It was everything that I hoped it would be and so tasty! My friend got a cold ham and cheese sandwich on baguette that was also crusty in that perfect way - you can take a bite without removing half of the contents of the sandwich, that's a difficult feat to accomplish with baguette. He brought out some apple slices to pair with the cheese in her sandwich, I tried it as well (think: thinly-sliced melt-in-your-mouth delights), oh my goodness!
Side note:I have to say, I love carbohydrates, but so often the bread-to-ingredients ratio is just wonky. This was *not* a problem that I encountered at Anthony's. The balance was perfect, there was enough bread to allow you to appreciate its accent to the sandwich, but not so much that you wonder if you forgot to order the filling.
Because we'd arrived at a quieter part of the day, Anthony surprised us at the end of our meal with the most delicate little refreshment: shaved lemon ice with a dew-drop of rose preserves. I felt like a fairy princess - it's kind of impossible not to when you eat something like that. I sincerely hope that I will get to enjoy a repeat of the experience.
When we'd finished I felt full without feeling weighed down, I was, simply, satisfied and refreshed.
I have a familiarity with cheeses and charcuterie but I am not an expert in this area - the friend that I was with is much more knowledgeable about these things and was very impressed by the selection and variety. I will say that Anthony was incredibly encouraging, and very helpful in answering my questions about the meats and cheeses that they carry. He was also generous with samples and not remotely snobbish in his expertise - which is a rare talent.
Lastly, get ready oenophiles! Anthony's gets its liquor license at the end of the month...
Wow! I can't believe a place like this exists in La Canada. My mom, sister, and I enjoyed a fabulous summer lunch here. I ordered a "Ham n' Cheese" sandwich that in no way resembled the disastrous version sold at my elementary school cafeteria. Instead of rubbery American cheese and hot pink ham squished between stale slices of white bread, this ham 'n' cheese featured gruyere, thinly sliced French ham, perky mustard and an addictive honey mayonnaise. I appreciated the extra mustard and mayonnaise on the side of the plate, which was squiggled into an adorable smiley face.
I also enjoyed bites of my sister's Jamon sandwich, which showcased beautiful Serrano Ham and two kinds of European butter. Her sandwich came with a generous side salad that contained fresh greens and a sprightly vinaigrette. My mom's vegetarian sandwich delighted our burrata-obsessed family, as it came filled with the creamy cheese, pesto, and tender roasted vegetables. The bread on all the sandwiches was top notch.
Service was friendly and efficient, and we all enjoyed the olives and gourmet corn nuts they brought at the beginning of the meal. Prices were extremely reasonable given the superb quality of the ingredients.
I can't wait to return!
